The Grogans are gearing up to celebrate their third studio album WHICH WAY IS OUT in full swing, with a tour kicking off across Australia and New Zealand in February 2023 including some festival appearances at Ninch Fest and Temple Sessions Festival, with all tickets on sale now!
After a busy year with their first run of international shows in New Zealand, supporting Hockey Dad on their Australian Tour, plus festival appearances at Wanderer Music Festival, Best Night Ever , NYE on the Hill, The Great Escape and Drift Festival, and a sold out international support with US band WAVES, WHICH WAY IS OUT was launched with sold out release day shows at HABA in Rye and an exhibition at Melbourne’s Record Paradise presented by Cousin Will Records commemorating all things Grogans. Alongside the tour announcement the trio are releasing a colourful claymation visual for feature track ‘LE FANGZ’, an exuberant and playful expression of the energy more familiar at The Grogans live shows.
Have you ever imagined a daisy inspired vampire creature? Meet the protagonist of feature track ‘LE FANGZ’ and the visual claymation component created by Willem Kingma. “Le Fangz tries to mellow you out and tell a story of an imaginary creature ‘le fang’ through a more lo/fi gritty ballad. This song actually accrued from this awful painting Quin did of these daisy looking vampire critters during lockdown. We were having a few beers on the grass just painting on big bits of plywood. After Quin had finished he wrote ‘le fangs’ on it as the title which ended up in our studio until it one day became the main character in a song.” The Grogans
The band approached me with the concept of creating a stop-motion music video that involved a daisy with fangs, as the song itself was based off a painting Quin had done of a flower with sharp teeth. I started making the models using plasticine and polymer clay. I opted to shoot everything as a flat lay, animating the models on top of green or blue paper which I later keyed out in the edit and replaced with my own backgrounds. After everything was edited together, I put the digital footage to a VHS tape which to me made it look like some freaky lost children’s program! – Willem Kingma

Unafraid to get a crowd moving, this Sydney-based outfit leads with punchy vocals, thumping bass-lines, and driving rock rhythms, all coupled with laid back harmonies and surfy guitar leads that transport you to crystalline seas by sandy shores.
Hand selected by ‘Coterie’ to open for them on their Sydney leg of their Australian Tour, selling out 4 single release shows and having the support of 2ser, Coast FM, Triple J Unearthed, 4zzzz and Rage (ABC), they aren’t slowing down anytime soon.
The Kids Be Dancin’ is Buffalo Paradise’s first complete artistic vision, with the flavour and musicianship of each member permeating through each song. Initially recording began prior to the 2021 June COVID lockdown, quickly halting progression of the album in its first steps, Buffalo Paradise was able to take some time away from the music and further foster the music to their artistic vision. The result is a much larger, louder and thicker sound – with considerable layering of intricacies that can only be found on repeat listens. It is clear as the listener progresses through The Kids Be Dancin’ that the band has numerous influential genres that have affected their writing, and a few black sheep songs amongst the track-listing – though only lending further to the album’s charm and musical journey. Each song provides such strong musical enjoyment to the band, and is sure to provide musical enjoyment to the listener as well.
This song is the final song written for The Kids Be Dancin’, coming to the band only a few weeks before the initial studio time for the album started. Seen by the band as the song representative of the album’s completion. “We were going to call Half Awake ‘The Observation Song’. As a band, we took a step back and decided to literally write about everyday observations you make but aren’t at front of mind. You could say Half Awake is an insight into the subconscious of Buffalo Paradise”.
Fate struck when frontman Lachie met lead-guitarist Angus at social hockey in late 2019 and they discovered common musical inspirations, from Spacey Jane to Lime Cordiale and Gang of Youths. Hostage to a tsunami of inspiration, Angus and Lachie had no choice but to embark on a journey for paradise. The tide washed up keyboardist Chris, drummer Rory, and bassist Naren Funk Fingers onto Buffalo Paradise’s shores, and the group matured into a fully formed outfit.
The band knew straight away Buffalo Paradise was a dream worth pursuing. As their melodic and rhythmic vision wove together like ocean currents, the group took their freshest material out of the rehearsal room to the live stage. Captivating audiences with their refreshing musical energy in a surf rock sound, Buffalo Paradise have come off a series of sold out headline shows for five single releases to date, and another in support of their debut album The Kids Be Dancin’, was released on November 18th 2022.

The Australian Open have just announced their music programme for the inaugural AO Finals Festival, set to take place on the last three days of Australian Open 2023.
The Finals Festival kicks off in Kia Arena on Friday 27 January coinciding with the sixth edition of the Glam Slam presented by Ralph Lauren and will feature ‘Absolutely Everybody’ singer Vanessa Amorosi, Montaigne and Melbourne based DJ Bertie. The Glam Slam is the world’s largest LGBTQI+ tennis event and attracts players from around the world.
On women’s final day, Saturday 28 January, New Zealand’s BENEE will take to the stage, along with Thelma Plum, Winston Surfshirt and CC:DISCO!
On men’s final day, Sunday 29 January the lineup will feature Flight Facilities, brother sister duo Lastlings, Forest Claudette and Willo.
Fans who buy a ground pass or Rod Laver Arena stadium ticket on any of the three days can upgrade to enter Kia Arena for the Finals Festival for an extra $5. Alternatively music fans who wish to just attend the Finals Fest can purchase a ticket for just $34 for each session.

Where are you currently based?
BP: We’re a Bondi-based outfit, though we grew up in wide-ranging suburbs over Sydney and Singapore – probably contributing to our eclectic musical influences and personalities.
How did you first start playing music?
BP: Each of us came to music from just enjoying it so much growing up and taking the natural step into playing ourselves, not to mention Jack Black’s School Of Rock that had a profound effect on our frontman Lachie. Most of the band have played their respective instruments for well over a decade and then came together early 2021 to share our love of music!
What’s been happening recently?
BP: We’ve just released our debut album The Kids Be Dancin’ and had a great night launching the album with all friends, fans and family, selling out The Vanguard. We’ve also been busy recording a heap of follow up tunes to keep everyone’s ears flooded with Buffalo Paradise goodness.
Your album – The Kids Be Dancin’ is out now, what influenced the sound and songwriting?
BP: The album kind of resonates all of our diverse music influences and covers a fair bit of musical territory. Someone could listen to the album and hear influences ranging from jazz, metal, modern day indie rock and anthemic rock songs. This greatly influenced the songwriting process, as the band relied heavily on taking a musical idea and fleshing it out in the rehearsal studio – culminating in the changing musical ideas throughout each of the songs.
How did you go about writing the album?
BP: A lot of the songwriting was shared by Lachie (vocalist) and Angus (lead guitar) in terms of coming up with an initial musical idea, then this was taken to the band as a whole, given a structure, seeing what we found to be the natural emphasis when we played it and adapted to make it complementary to the band as a whole. That being said, there are a lot of songs on the album that were truly a collaborative effort with the entire band bringing the idea to the final project – whether it be from a jam session, or just a semi complete idea becoming complete.
What does this album mean to you?
BP: This one means a lot to be honest. For many of the band members this represents our musical growth in a band setting with much of the experience being first time writing/recording/production, not to mention delays due to lockdowns etc. It’s a body of work we can all reflect on very fondly and see our progression as a band, and we all really value not only the music, but the bonding, process and experience we all shared together to get this album completed.
Where and when did you record/produce/master and who did you work with?
BP: We recorded at Ralph Street Studios in Alexandria with Aria nominated and all round great guy Greg Stace. All of the recording, production and mastering was done there.
What’s planned for the remainder of 2022 going into 2023?
BP: For the remainder of the year we have a bit of downtime from live shows, focusing on writing follow up music and hoping to be back in the studio by the end of January 2023. We’ve got about 5 songs already recorded and ready to go, but planning to get that number much higher in 2023 to get a heap more BP music out into the world! And in true Buffalo Paradise fashion, there will be a good few high energy, fun loving shows in 2023 for sure.
Who are you listening to at the moment?
BP: Again, the band has a pretty eclectic mix of influences. There’s definitely a very heavy emphasis on the indie rock bands in the Australian scene at the moment, as we love the work of all of our contemporaries (Pacific Avenue, Lime Cordial, Hockey Dad, Spacey Jane, Winston Surfshirt to name a few), but then there’s a whole range of other genres in there as well.
Please tell us about any upcoming shows:
BP: None official at the moment – but tentatively pencil in mid Feb. All our shows are promoted online via the various band socials, so they’re the best place to stay up to date with all our shows!
Favourite food and place to hangout?
We’re lucky to have had a good chunk of our shows in Newtown which has some pretty wicked cuisine… there’s definitely been some pretty iconic BP band dinners there in preparation for or after our live shows that we can all reflect back on as critical in the formation of our bond as a band.
We have a tradition that after each show we make a stop at Indian Home Diner in Paddington for a luscious butter chicken kebab as we make our way back to Bondi. As to where we like to hang out, the beach!!

A brilliant 20th anniversary of the AIRBEAT ONE Festival with 300 of the best DJs and acts is coming up from July 12 to 16, 2023. The four-day open air event at the airfield in Neustadt-Glewe in Mecklenburg-West Pomerania bears the motto “Edition Home – Germany” and will be a bombastic setting for a groundbreaking event production. The AIRBEAT ONE has long since become a global player and plays as an event worldwide at the very top. Now the makers of the festival announce the first 25 acts for next year and they already are awesome!
The “Mainstage” every year is the epochal showpiece of the AIRBEAT ONE Festival. With gigantic dimensions of up to 180 meters wide and 50 meters high, it is the absolute eye-catcher, elaborately designed with absolute attention to detail. The biggest DJs and acts on the planet play here. True to the motto “Edition Home”, however, the first blockbusters come from Germany: Boris Brejcha, Neelix, Paul van Dyk, and Scooter. However, the AIRBEAT ONE Mainstage has always been a meeting point for the top 10 from the renowned DJ Mag Top100 Ranking and so representatives from them may not be missing in the line-up so far: Steve Aoki and Timmy Trumpet!
The music at AIRBEAT ONE is as diverse as the festival itself. From EDM to Trance and Progressive – from Hardstyle, Hardcore and Gabber to Techno, Minimal, House, Psytrance and Goa. Every lover of electronic sounds will find his floor here. The Arena Stage, which was added only a few years ago, stands for techno. And here, too, German techno artists determine the happenings in the line-up so far: Anne Clue, Claptone and SKIY. From Italy Deborah de Luca joins and from Switzerland the Deep House Queen Nora En Pure.
So far, the colors black, red and gold have been shining almost exclusively above the Terminal Stage. HBz, Lexy & K-Paul, VIZE and YouNotUs. With Klangkarussell a producer duo from Austria comes to Neustadt-Glewe.
The line-up on the Hardstyle stage is looking absolutely international so far. Some of the big icons of the scene have already announced themselves: Brennan Heart, Headhunterz, Noisecontrollers, Sickmode and Wildstylez.
Last but not least, the first artists for the Second Stage are ready. With Captain Hook, Fabio Fusco, Hatikwa, Mandragora and Vegas, illustrious names from the Goa and Psytrance scene will join the November line-up.

Smirnoff Seltzer is taking Australia’s biggest musicians back to the venues that gave them their start, supported by the country’s most hotly-tipped talent. In a series of one-night-only intimate gigs hosted around the eastern seaboard, the events – Smirnoff Origins – will pay homage to the crucial role that live music plays in helping emerging talent cut their teeth, build their fanbase and become fully fledged stars.
Headlined by some of Australia’s biggest acts, the gigs will be anything but ordinary, taking over small live music venues to provide a stage set for exciting new artists that have been specially picked by the headliner to open the show.
The Presets are first to take the stage, returning to Sydney’s iconic nightclub, Club 77 on Thursday February 2, 2023. Club 77 played a vital role in the band’s early years, as the venue where they honed their skills as performers, generated fans and even made reference mixes for their debut album Beams (released in 2005), coming up in the golden age of electronic music in Sydney’s once-pulsating Kings Cross. Returning 17 years later, The Presets will host Smirnoff Origins’ first show with additional artists and venues to be announced.
The Presets are also tasked with finding Smirnoff’s hottest opening act, hand-picking an emerging artist to open their show. The chosen artist will also receive a $5,000 performance fee, double gold tickets to Splendour in the Grass 2023 (valued at $1,200), their very own feature in Rolling Stone magazine (valued at $20,000), and Smirnoff Advertising support worth $30,000, giving them a platform to be discovered.
The Presets Julian Hamilton says, “We’re thrilled to head back to Club 77 to play at Smirnoff Origins, a venue that was so special to us coming up in Sydney music. Live music venues like this play such an important role in supporting up-and-coming musicians and we’re on the lookout for an emerging artist to open our Smirnoff Origins show so we can pay it forward and create an opportunity for the next generation of artists.”
Lockdowns were particularly hard on Australia’s live-music industry, causing the closure of several iconic music venues in the wake of two years of restrictions. Without a stage on which to perform, many emerging artists struggled to hone their skills, find fans and make a living. Venues are only now returning to life, but they continue to need support to be able to offer opportunities to the next generation of musicians.
Club 77 owner Dane Gorrel says, “Live music venues feed an entire ecosystem for our late-night economy, across musicians, hospitality staff, restaurants, and travel. It’s about being part of a community that contributes and creates culture. Recently announced to play Primavera Festival 2023, Nation Of Language team up with Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard for a remix of ‘Across That Fine Line’, the original taken from their critically acclaimed album A Way Forward.
A supercharged standout from the album, which the Brooklyn band has brought to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Austin City Limits, Pitchfork Paris, a sold-out UK tour, and more this year, Joe Goddard transforms “a triumphant anthem” (NME) into an unpredictable, thunderous arrangement of synth and percussion.
“As someone who works mostly alone, it can be fascinating to hear other artists I admire reframing one of our songs,” says Nation of Language’s Ian Devaney. “The way they choose certain moments to accentuate takes me back to the writing process when all of these ideas were first stitched together.”
Nation of Language recently released a stark, seven-minute reimagining of ‘Across That Fine Line’ from Working Men’s Club last month, in addition to standalone single ‘From The Hill’ – their first piece of original music since 2021’s A Way Forward. While ‘Across That Fine Line’ captures the joyous panic of a platonic relationship flipping into something different, ‘From The Hill’ reflects on the times when friendships fall apart over romantic entanglement, further proving why band are “masters of taking the rigid confines of both synth pop and post-punk and expanding them outward, creating emotive, moving pieces in the process” (Consequence).
Having wrapped a month-long tour across the EU and UK this past weekend, playing dozens of shows with “cutthroat chemistry” – as Pitchfork described in the top six highlights of its Paris music festival – Nation of Language are now back in the studio finishing their third album.

Lucky Polo launches into new sonic and lyrical territory with debut single ‘Minimum Wage Dreamer’. The young and eccentric Sydney native, now based in Irvine, CA seeks to find a new angle within RnB music and create music authentic to himself.
This single aims to question the late stage capitalist society we currently live in, constantly being pacified by social media and hypebeast culture. The single probes the validity and legitimacy of this in such a way it almost criticises it. It forces the listener to consider their own consuming habits and how living a life reflective of what is seen on social media can lead to a careless and depressing lifestyle.
Lucky Polo is currently preparing to release his debut single on the 9th of December. Though based currently in Irvine CA, the Australian artist harbours a deep connection to the local music scene in Sydney.
Lucky Polo’s experience in a variety of bands spanning multiple genres has deeply influenced the unique sound achieved in ‘Minimum Wage Dreamer’. Specifically, his involvement in jazz ensembles and punk rock outfits are evident in the sonic foundations of the piece.
Lucky Polo’s main focus is to create something fresh and authentic to himself. “I mean it’s definitely easier said than done, especially with so many inspiring artists out there you just want to copy them all. My personal perspective is realising that everybody is going to have a different take on something, so it’s all about embracing these defining features. For me it’s about trying to get as much of my personality in there as possible and hopefully people can relate to that.”
This release is incredibly exciting for Lucky Polo, as not only is it the first time he has released music as a solo artist, but also the first time he has sung and rapped on a song. “It took a minute for me to feel comfortable
with my own voice, but that’s the thing, I’m the only one with my voice in the world so if I don’t just do it no one’s ever going to hear it – as narcissistic as that sounds.” Having always had the role of supporting someone else vocally, this was a big shift for him.
On this release, he worked with Marrickville Golden Retriever Studio’s own Antonia Gauci on engineering and mixing, Chloe Dadd as assistant engineer and Simon Berckelman as masterer. These are important names in the Australian music industry who have worked on some of the greatest artists to come out of Australia such as Jessica Mauboy, Lime Cordiale and Boy and Bear.

Each piece of animated art is accompanied by original music and soundscapes, composed and arranged specifically to accentuate the vision, drawing the audience both visually and aurally, deeper into each piece.
Nate Hill is one of Australia’s most prolific and successful NFT creators having sold out every collection of his work, and is collected by the world’s leading NFT artists and collectors. Nate’s work has played at Art Basel in Miami, on billboards in Times Square, New York, and most recently as part of the 20th anniversary celebrations of Fed Square in Melbourne.
Nate is fresh from a sold out 5-piece NFT Collaboration with Hollywood actor Val Kilmer, visual fine- art artist Tim Maxwell and actor Laurence Fuller.
Internationally acclaimed aerial film-makers and stills photographers, Jerry & Sara Grayson of Helifilms, along with multi award-winning Toby Dundas, musician, composer and co-founder of The Temper Trap, formed SUNGRAZERS in May 2021 in order to collaborate to create digital art; still photographs, film and video NFTs with original music and soundscapes.
SUNGRAZERS have sold over 200 NFTs since July 2021, and were one of 20 artists alongside Nate selected by OSHI Gallery to create a 1/1 NFT as part of the 20th anniversary celebrations of Fed Square in Melbourne.
Toby and his band are fresh from a sell-out tour of ANZ with Kings of Leon, having been the only band to play twice at the AFL Grand Final.
Both Nate and SUNGRAZERS sold out their recent Fed Square, Melbourne, NFT Exhibition.

The transition from early to mid-20s can be a challenging time – changing friend groups, heightened independence, less time and more commitments. It can be a daunting, challenging and isolating time where perspectives shift and priorities change. For Adelaide born, Sydney-based Kyle Charles Hall, this transition created a re-centering of self and a grateful recognition of the joy and love that does exist – physicalised in his latest song “in love, 23”.
“In Love, 23 is about a time in my life where I felt incredibly lost (quarter life crisis anyone?). I feel like at this age you really start to notice how precious time is and this song was very much a step towards being more grateful for what I do have and loving the people around me with all I have.” Kyle Charles Hal
A sure to be loved tune amongst gen-z and millennials, the palatable croon and playful visuals are reminiscent of recent global pop stars Dominic Fike, ROLE MODEL and closer to home with KIAN, Hein Cooper and Hauskey.
There is a careful DIY feel to the production, from the mix of live-tracking in Kyle’s bedroom and in-studio at Debaser Studio (Andy Lawson). This results in a supremely relatable song that dives into the carefree exploration of adolescence into young-adulthood. From the recording, Andy Lawson (Noah Dillon, Death by Denim) continued to Mix the track with mastering by 301’s Steve Smart (Vance Joy, Casey Chambers, Ocean Alley).
“This was an unusual song for me as I wrote it very stereotypically; edge of the bed, pen and paper and an acoustic guitar kinda vibe. The production I then did played a huge part in getting the song to sound how it does but at the heart of it, it’s very much a singer/ songwriter song. The first chorus of the song was actually live tracked, with me playing and singing it into one mic to sort of keep a little bit of how the song first sounded.” Kyle Charles Hall
Since debuting in 2019, the west-coast singer-songwriter has scored a support slot for Teenage Joans, combined DSP streams of over 260,000+, and support from industry tastemakers triple j and Radio Adelaide. It’s clear his sound is finding a home with Aussie fans across the country.
