Mindy Sins ‘Give Me Your Love’ Premiere

by the partae June 26, 2023
written by the partae

As much a band, as it is an opportunity to reimagine rock and roll, Mindy Sins prides itself on their inclusion of all their musical influences – whether it be blues, rock, or metal, nothing is off the table when the band writes their music. Led by singer and guitarist Armando Leibeck, the band is backed by Colin Hassell’s loud, over the top and yet tasteful style on the drum kit, and Alessandro Zita’s cool and collected bass playing leaves space for the group while holding down the groove. For Leibeck, Mindy Sins is a way to be the person he always wanted to be growing up. The music is all about the guitar, the noise, the passion, the energy, the ability to let out everything and more on each stage and stereo the band reaches.

Jesse Boyle Interview

by the partae June 24, 2023
written by the partae

Where are you currently based?

I’m currently living in Los Angeles!

What’s been happening recently?

Well, a lot! I have just recently returned from Brazil and Mexico following a Chase Atlantic headline tour! It was such a fantastic experience to visit those countries for the first time and I can’t wait to go back! I also had the pleasure to release my new Short Film (UN) Justify which I’m really happy that it’s finally out in the world.

Please tell us about any projects that you’ve been working on:

Right now, I’m working on a couple of feature – length scripts which I’m very excited about. One is based off my most recent short film ‘(UN) Justify’ and the other, a sci-fi epic. Additionally, I’ve started shooting a feature documentary that I’m really excited about involving a number of incredible, talented and smart humans!

How did you get into film/directing?

I’ve always been obsessed with Film. However, I never gave myself permission to look too much into it from a young age. I kind of put myself in a box with my own self-limiting beliefs at the time and really just focused on being a musician.

During Covid however, I found myself going through a particularly troublesome time after a special relationship ended. This is what led me to write my first short film ‘You Are The Ocean’ and deep dived into how to actually make a film myself by watching interviews and kind of self-teaching how it all works.

Best memories in directing/film so far?

I think just the ability to see the words you’ve written on paper come to life on camera is a really liberating thing. Writers rack their minds and souls when putting the words on the page and it’s a very vulnerable experience to not only have an actor embody those characters and speak those words, but also for the world to be exposed to those thoughts and feelings.

That, and also singing with Zero Gravity Management and my manager Jermaine was a really amazing feeling and I can’t wait for the years to come and see what we will accomplish together.

What are you most excited about achieving/biggest goals for the year ahead and beyond?

For this year I’m really looking forward to continuing to shoot this Documentary and get these two scripts done. I’ve also got another Short Film that I’m very eager to shoot in the meantime in which I’m currently putting the final touches on!

How has drumming in Chase Atlantic influenced your directing?

I think one informs the other. While drumming I feel an incredible tribal-ness come out and let a lot of emotional expression take reign. This creates even more room for a more vulnerable and emotional side of myself to come out when writing.

The show also really revolves around a story and a ‘universe’ that has been created. So there’s lots of storytelling in the shows which keeps the creative juices flowing amongst all of us.

What would you like people to take away from your films/directing work?

Once someone watches a film, or listens to a song, it becomes theirs. I want them to take something, anything, out of what I make and make it their own.

I try to create thought-provoking works that may sometimes make people feel uncomfortable. In all honesty it’s something I’m probably working through myself and this is the only way I know.

There’s a place for pure entertainment, fun and relaxing for sure, but I also think  it’s important for us as a society as a whole to sometimes absorb art that speaks on a more thought-provoking and challenging level and take moments to reflect and discuss.

That is, after all, one of the magical things about making art and why storytelling is our species’ oldest traditions.

How is the film industry different compared to the music industry?

Well, the film industry has a lot more people at play to get something done. Similarly to music, when writing, it is a solo thing that you can do by yourself. However, shooting something takes a lot of talented people to be involved. From actors, producers, crew, the list goes on. But the bigger things get and the more elaborate you desire your shoot, the more people it requires. It’s a super collaborative medium. However, technology is so good these days you can shoot anything with a few friends and make it work with your iPhone. It really just depends on what you, as a director, see as the vision and what the best way is to execute that vision.

On the other hand, the Music world differs in this aspect, especially Chase Atlantic. The most compelling work was made in a bedroom studio and minimal overheads. Everything is in house, self produced, self written, self recorded. So getting the actual product done takes a lot less people than you would need to shoot a film.

Highlights of living in LA?

Well, i’ve been fortunate enough to be coming to and from LA for the most part of the last 8 years, so it’s always felt like a home to me. I’ve made incredible friends here which i’m very thankful for. I think the most inspiring thing about being here is the pace and the talent. Everyone you meet is really the best at what they do. The city is a melting pot of creative ideas and excellent execution and you can’t help but let that drive rub off on you.

That, and I was ordering a burger from a store the other day and Christopher Nolan was standing right in front of me. Very LA haha.

Favourite directors/influences?

Christopher Nolan and Denis Villenuce have to be my most influential currently-working directors. Their work speaks for itself.

However, when I write or conceptualize a film or screenplay, I still draw heavily on my musical brain and use a lot of score to get the juices flowing. This is where Johan Johannson’s composition work really influences my style, as well as the composer Ryuichi Sakamoto. If you’re not familiar I urge you to check out their work.

What’s planned for the remainder of 2023?

Lots. Of. Writing. This year so far really has been setting up the years to come with a large body of screenplays to draw from and concepts to develop. I want to shoot a new short as a proof of concept for another feature too which I’m really excited about.

Other than that, I will be embarking to London and Europe in September to perform at Reading and Leeds festival as well as Lollapalooza Berlin with Chase Atlantic. They’re both historical festivals and it’ll be the first time playing on both main stages, so I think everyone is keen for those!

There’s a couple of other things in the works, but that has to stay hush hush for now ;).

Favourite food and place to hangout?

I do love my local coffee shop Oaks Cafe here in LA, but I’ve also got to say the food at the new Birds Street Club is to die for. There’s also a little dive bar called ‘The Woods’ which is a great spot for a drink and hang. I should probably have a loyalty card to the place by now.

Known for their innate talent for crafting beautifully written songs, the Western Australian-based duo, The Money War, have released their heartrending new EP ‘I Don’t Hear You Anymore’ (Friday, June 23).

Infusing their music with unwavering sincerity, Dylan Ollivierre and Carmen Pepper skillfully blend elegant pop purity with the resolute spirit of indie rock and folk, resulting in captivating melodies and refined production that eloquently capture their intricate experiences.

In ‘I Don’t Hear You Anymore’, The Money War demonstrates their adeptness at navigating tender stories of love, loss, change, and the desperate need for self-expression. This collection of songs, which is both authentic and relatable, allows The Money War to express their innermost thoughts and emotions as they navigate the challenges of raising three young children. Each track on the EP offers a unique and heartfelt experience, beautifully encapsulating the duo’s emotive lyricism and undeniable talent, and showcasing their profound artistic depth.

Speaking about the tracks on the EP, Dylan Ollivierre notes, “The songs are special to me because they remind me of moments in the last year where I felt desperate to express myself.” As a full-time producer who is consistently occupied with other people’s music, time dedicated to The Money War is limited. Ollivierre further explains, “Every now and then, I have this insatiable desire to create something that embodies my own vision and expresses Carmen and me as The Money War. In the past, we often had numerous songs to choose from, but nowadays, with three young kids, our time has significantly decreased. Therefore, a song only progresses beyond the ‘idea’ stage if it strongly demands to be realized.”

Fittingly, the EP opens with the celestial and laid-back energy of the title track, ‘I Don’t Hear You Anymore’. This track, anchored by gently finger-picked acoustic guitar and featuring the soothing melodies of Dylan Ollivierre complemented by Carmen Pepper in the choruses, sets an ominous yet hopeful tone, paving the way for the emotional journey that follows.

The next offering is the collaboration with Melbourne’s FEELDs titled ‘Was It Ever Really Anything?’. Seamlessly blending dreamy indie-folk stylings, this track builds upon The Money War’s signature sound, incorporating gritty blues guitar, enchanting harmonies, and an enthralling slide guitar solo, culminating in a vivid final chorus adorned with layers of vocal lines.

Redefining the rules of modern folk-pop, The Money War presents ‘Ride’, a minimalist track characterized by stripped-back guitar and vocals. Inspired by the beauty of living in the present moment, Dylan Ollivierre’s lead vocals, accompanied by Carmen Pepper’s harmonies, create a lulling and easy-going atmosphere, embodying the liberating energy and happiness found in simplicity.

Closing the EP is the beloved ‘Somebody Loves You’, an uplifting melody that radiates sincerity from the very first note. With its timeless quality, this track captures The Money War’s exceptional songwriting prowess and the undeniable chemistry that defines their partnership. Listeners will find themselves floating into the ether, embracing the affirmation of being loved.

With an impressive track record boasting over 3 million streams on Spotify and recognition from esteemed publications such as Tone Deaf, Rolling Stone AU, Blunt Mag, NME, and The Music, The Money War has solidified their position as one of Australia’s finest musical acts. Their dreamy compositions and captivating performances have graced stages at renowned festivals including FOTSUN, SXSW, BIGSOUND, and many more.

Allow The Money War to help you find the words to express yourself as they release their enchanting 4-track EP ‘I Don’t Hear You Anymore’ now.

“‘I Promise I Love You’ takes the heart and skill TALLOU had with her previous projects, and explores the land of bass synths, dirty slow pop beats, and adds some grit into the mix.” (The Point Music News)
Stream ‘marco polo’
Toowoomba-based artist TALLOU is ready to enchant listeners once again with her latest single, ‘marco polo’, out now (July 23). Following the success of her moody debut earlier this year in the form of ‘i promise i love you’, TALLOU continues to showcase her talent as a singer-songwriter with a distinctive indie/ alt-pop sound.

TALLOU may be a fresh stage name, but Tiana Dennis found her footing in the music industry at a young age when she signed one of her original songs to Sony ATV for sync opportunities when she was just fourteen. Her journey led her to perform at renowned festivals like Caloundra Music Festival, Woodford Folk Festival, and Tamworth CMF. She also had the privilege of opening for acclaimed acts, including Sheppard and Taylor Henderson, as part of her Queensland Music Award-winning duo, Oh Harlow.

Now, she embraces a new path for her creativity, crafting a dreamy indie-pop sound that radiates like iridescent stars in the sky. With its floaty atmosphere and driving full-bodied basslines, TALLOU and her vocal delivery finds the perfect meeting point between melancholic tenderness and rich, hopeful energy. Becoming more vibrant after each verse as new layers are introduced, this dreamlike world is all absorbing.

‘marco polo’ stands as a testament to TALLOU’s perseverance and passion for creating meaningful music. Weaving her stories into a sparkling musical tapestry, ‘marco polo’ explores relationships and the heartbreak that can come with them. TALLOU explains:

“‘marco polo’ was inspired by a close friend and his constant journey of losing and finding himself through different relationships. We were at the gym one day debriefing about the latest heartbreak and he literally said “I feel like I’m playing Marco Polo with myself”. I thought it was great and immediately wrote it down in my notes app.”

Collaborating with talented brothers Jeremy Beamish (Jude York) and Ben Beamish (Sleepy Benjamin) in a writing session, the song effortlessly took shape. Jeremy took charge of the track’s production, infusing it with his deep understanding of the song’s evolution from writing to its shimmering synths and intoxicating alt-pop elements.

Join the enchanting world of TALLOU with ‘marco polo’, available on all major streaming platforms now.

PLS&TY’s New Single “Upside,” Featuring Ben Samama, Is Guaranteed To Light Up Any Dance Floor as The Latest Track From His Upcoming “3 Days, 2 Nights” EP

by the partae June 24, 2023
written by the partae

Artist: PLS&TY
Title: Upside ft. Ben Samama
Label: Seeking Blue

Download / Stream

PLS&TY continues his hot streak of releases with his newest release – “Upside,” featuring LA-based Grammy nominated singer/songwriter Ben Samama. The record is the latest from his forthcoming “3 Days, 2 Nights” EP, which PLS&TY has been teasing since March this year, and follows in the footsteps of its predecessor “Yours” with a more underground and dancefloor-oriented “night side” approach. With euphonious melodies and a rolling, deep bassline, “Upside” creates a darkly danceable vibe while the catchy vocals keep things playful and energetic. PLS&TY has excelled at producing tracks with different sonic styles on the EP that simultaneously complement each other, as we saw with the more organic sounds of “Party In My Head” with Lost Boy and “New Color” earlier this year. With so much anticipation building for the full release of “3 Days, 2 Nights” EP, the drop can’t come soon enough. Stay tuned for more information and new music.

Tommy Leas, a Florida native – better known as PLS&TY – is burgeoning into the electronic dance music scene with his unique sound: languid bass, captivating vocals, and enough upbeat melodies to make anybody feel good. His music has amassed over 100 million streams across platforms – that’s if you don’t include a feature in a Hershey’s chocolate television commercial that has now reached over 1 billion views. PLS&TY‘s singles have charted on Billboard, have consecutively reached #1 on iTunes four times, and have been remixed by Grammy-nominated Morgan Page, Rusko, Cazzette, Bondax, and YehMe2. Tommy has also toured a bevy of A-list festivals, including Shaky Beats, Breakaway, Electric Forest, EDC Vegas, and more. After releasing his debut “Very Special” EP, which featured platinum-selling artists like Sean Kingston, Alex Aiono (of Netflix‘s “Finding Ohana“), Wifisfuneral, and more, 2020-2022 saw PLS&TY become an early adopter of the emerging NFT technology. PLS&TY has co-designed skateboard deck NFTs for Tony Hawk, as well as visuals for celebrity athletes like Floyd Mayweather and even members of Congress. Most recently, PLS&TY‘s NFT projects were referenced in Billboard at the #3 and #10 positions of Top Music NFT Sales in August and September of 2022 alongside Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and David Bowie. 2023 sees PLS&TY emerging with new music and an ever-growing global community of fans following his art, all while wielding the lighthearted “mind your manners” and “please and thank you” catchphrases.

Sydney soul artist MELITA releases smooth & groove-laden EP ‘HEARTICULATE’

by the partae June 22, 2023
written by the partae

Pulling sonic influences from a wide array of sources, Sydney’s Melita has today unveiled her debut EP titled ‘Hearticulate’. With comparisons being drawn to artists including Silk Sonic, Parcels & Tom Misch, Melita’s glossy vocal performance is a highlight across the release, backed strongly by glorious soul, funk and R&B rhythms.  Starting with the swirling ‘Greetings’, the 7-track ‘Hearticulate’ EP then rolls into the title-track, engulfing listeners with Melita’s warm & oh-so-smooth vocals. ‘Delusional’, ‘Crystal Logic’ & ‘Smile’ continue to showcase Melita’s lush vocal range, with ‘Saturn Blues’ picking up the tempo for a funk-inspired number, before rounding out with the climatic and ethereal ‘Hold On To My Mind’.

Inspired by the core memories, moments & realizations of her late teenhood & early adulthood, Melita has created ‘Hearticulate’ as a way to encapsulate and outlay the emotions felt during this coming-of-age period. Written in her bedroom, as an outlet to understand her feelings & ultimately herself, the EP is defined by the songwriting & production skills of herself & her brother Alex Ertler, who grew up on their love for 70s soul, funk & rock. Starting life on her bedroom piano, all of the tracks on ‘Hearticulate’ grew into something bigger when combined with Alex’smusicianship & John Ertler’s  (Renee Geyer, Doug Parkinson, Marty Rhone) mixing & mastering.

“This EP is a collection of songs that navigates through defining moments and realizations during my late teenhood to early adulthood. Themes of confusion, growth and matters of the heart litter these songs which were all written on my bedroom piano and recorded with my brother. I felt that “Hearticulate” was such a perfect term to encapsulate what this debut body of work is to me. I’ve always used songwriting as a tool for self-discovery – a way to sift through complex emotions and reveal illuminating truths.” Melita

“All of these tunes were recorded between my brother and I at our home studios. I’ll usually whip up a guide demo and arrange the parts and then Alex will replace some of the instruments and we collaborate from there. We grew up on the same music and have such a love for 70s soul, funk and rock so it’s always an exciting process creating with someone so in tune with my influences.” Melita

Artwork by: Joella Studio

In celebration of the “Hearticulate’ EP release, Melita will also be performing at Sydney’s iconic The Red Rattler on its release day; Friday, June 16th. Showcasing the EP’s in its full entirety, she will also be joined by a groovin’ & funky collection of supports, with Kosher Groove & Ellen Mara opening the night. PRAISE FOR MELITA

“The high-octane “Crystal Logic”, is a glorious infusion of soul, funk and RnB with a disco twist. “Crystal Logic” glistens and smolders, bringing funky disco vibes. Coupled with a classy and confident production, this track is a clear-cut winner.”

The AU Review

“Melita kicks things up a notch and delivers a single that doubles as not only a beautiful piece of dripped-out soul/funk and R&B, but as a striking statement of intent. Initially channeling slick disco soul, with silky smooth vocals, spacey synths, and rubbery bass, ‘Crystal Logic’ has you floating through the stars, before hitting the hyperdrive thanks to THAT slap bass. Melita vibes effortlessly from RnB to Disco Diva and back again, in a shimmering funk-fuelled dance odyssey.”
The Point Music News

“Melita is creating her own unique style of City Pop. Japanese City Pop was popular in the 80s and Melita is giving the genre a modern twist. Her music is infused with the essence of city pop while blending funk and catchy lyrics. Melita’s music will put you in a good mood and make you want to groove.”

Music Shelf With Mustard

“(Melita) combines the aesthetics of R&B/soul, funk, and yacht rock. So smooth, mellow, and she’s not repackaging other music genres – her energy is expansive and I feel so alive.”

Mister Co- Don’t Talk About It- Mastersheet

by the partae June 21, 2023
written by the partae

Mister Co. set to release their third single “Don’t Talk About It”, a change in the rock direction.

Following the success of their debut and sophomore singles, Mister Co. is back but this time they are leaving “LOVE” at the door.

Written as an emancipation piece, the pair explores the narrative of being held emotionally captive by those who claim to support you. Drawing from their alternative and rock influences, this song will be sure to provide listeners a sense of self liberation while leaving the chorus melody stuck in their head for days.

“We wrote Don’t Talk About It while reflecting on the times in our lives where we felt held back and restricted by people who didn’t want us to succeed with our music, our business and our relationship. This was our chance to respond and have our say.”

The single follows their debut “Tonight” and sophomore “Make You Feel Alright” releases, which received worldwide praise from both radio and editorial. These releases surpassed 50,000 streams, has been featured on over 200 playlists worldwide and has played on radio stations all around the world including Melbourne LGBTIQA+ radio station JOY FM.

Mister Co. is the amalgamation of two passionate musicians and producers, Connor and Oscar Absolum. A genre blended musical duo, Mister Co brings Oscar’s big band and musical theatre influences together with Connor’s love of anthem rock, soul and pop. Although the pair have worked on countless musical projects with various artists both on stage and in the studio, the pair only decided to begin their songwriting career as a duo after their April wedding in 2022.

‘Don’t Talk About It’ was once again co-produced by Dominik Harold from Protonaut Studios and is set to appear on the pair’s debut album which is due for release in early 2024. Titled ‘On This Journey,’ the album is said to feature a collection of songs that tells a story of their journey together from high school to the stage to their union as husbands.

The third single “Don’t Talk About It” from Mister Co. will be available on all streaming platforms on Saturday the 17th of June.

Biography:

Australian singer-songwriting duo Mister Co. embody the true nature of artistry – weaving universal stories with passion and authenticity throughout their extensive catalogue of music. Combining the talents of husbands, Connor and Oscar Absolum, Mister Co. blends soulful vocals and modern-pop elements to create not only an ever-lasting ode to one another but to their audiences – one of connection, love and the value of pursuing your wildest dreams.

With the charisma found only by those working hard at their life-long desire, Mister Co. have developed their catalogue with frequent releases planned in 2023, leading to their debut album in 2024. The year will also see the duo continue their brand and audience building, and their largest performance to date, featuring a 10-piece band.

Garnering attention from audiences and industry alike, previous releases Tonight and Make You Feel Alright have over 55k combined streams with close to 300 playlist additions and a reach of over 175 countries; as well as support from prominent community radio station Joy FM, and radio play across the UK and America.

Mister Co Interview

by the partae June 19, 2023
written by the partae
Where are you currently based?
We are currently based in the North West suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria.

What’s been happening recently?
Lately, we have been really busy, traveling around Australia, performing as much as we can. We have been focusing heavily on finishing our debut Album “On This Journey”, reflecting on our lives together so far and exploring new sounds and feels.

Your latest single ‘Don’t Talk About It’ will be released on June 17, what influenced the sound and songwriting?
We both love “Rock” music and grew up listening to 80’s, 90’s, and modern rock, and we felt this sound did the theme of the new single justice. Lyrically the track explores the themes of self liberation and disconnecting from people who do not support you and stad in the way of you and your happiness. The centre of the song was our experience coming out together as a couple, the fears, trials and obstacles we had to overcome to find happiness together.

How did you go about writing Don’t Talk About It?
This one was actually really easy, it was one of those things where once we started it just flowed. Lyrically and melodically it only took us 4 hours to write this track, there were so many things bottled up that this song allowed us to release and let go of.

Where and when did you record/produce/master and who did you work with?
We started recording the song in our home studio in September 2022 and reached demo phase really quickly. We then took a break from it and revisited it in March this year where Dominik Honold from Protonaut Studios from Germany took the track for mix, master and co-production.

Please tell us about the inspirations and influences for the project:

How did the project come about?
Mister Co. was the platform we created to share our music together and with our audience. Both being musicians and always having a hand in music, after our honeymoon in April 2022 we sat down and came up with the name and the rest is now history.

What it’s like working with your partner? What are the challenges & benefits?
Honestly it is such an incredible experience, we get to do something we both love together and we get to share all the successes and achievements side by side. Creative differences are always a challenge but if you use the differences and fuse them into one sound you start creating a new feel which reflects the both of us separately and together. Being a creative can be a lonely road, so to have your partner there with you the whole way really helps the mind and soul.

Where do you feel most inspired to write music?
Honestly together, the where isn’t really important to us. Being seasoned travelers we seem to write wherever we travel drawing inspiration from our surroundings.

Who are you listening to at the moment?
We are always listening to the greats, but more recently we have fallen in love with Allen Stone and everything indie soul.

What do you like to do away from music?
We actually both run a business called Pinnacle Choice in the real estate industry, so away from music we love building our family business, traveling wherever we can, and sitting on the couch playing PS5 together.

What’s planned for the remainder of 2023?
2023 is a massive year for us, we will be supporting our first tour with Eamon Conor in September, releasing another 3 singles and finishing up our debut album for a 2024 release.

Favourite food and place to hang out?

THIS IS A HARD ONE, but we would both agree we love Japanese food and hanging out on our road trips across the country.

Heterochromia Interview

by the partae June 19, 2023
written by the partae

Where are you currently based?

We’re currently based in Sydney

What’s been happening recently?

Things have been pretty non-stop! The reception to our new single has been overwhelmingly positive so we’ve really been trying to ride that wave while we rehearse a bunch for tour.

Your latest single ‘Plastic’ is out now, what influenced the sound and songwriting?

Plastic was written out of frustration really. At the time I felt like I was really only being seen as a toy by the men in my life and it took a lot of work to build the self-worth to stand up to that and say “Hey! no! fuck you! I’m a human being”. That’s why although the lyrics of the song are pretty almost bitter (I’m a big fan of The Smiths so a lot of my writing has that sarcastic tone to it), instrumentally we really went for something with a much brighter almost nostalgic tone. We were playing a lot of 00’s pop between writing sessions and I think that comes through.

What does this single mean to you?

Plastic means a huge deal to me! It feels like such a time capsule of this awful thing I overcame. I’m proud of how overall positive it ended up being and I think it’s some of mine and Josh’s (Gonzalez/producer) best work.

Where and when did you record/produce/master and who did you work with?

I recorded the song with Josh Gonzalez who is a long time friend and creative partner. His writing and production is really what makes Heterochromia what it is. We wrote and recorded the song in his home studio and then sent it off to Chris Vernon to mix and master, because I just have a bunch of talented besties and the band is a great excuse to work with them

How did you approach the recording process?

Very very slowly and with a lot of patience on Josh’s end. Heterochromia is my first time having the musician hat on and so there was a lot to learn. We didn’t want to settle at all. Consequently there was a lot of tweaking until we were both stoked.

You have an upcoming tour, where are you headed?

Yeah oh my god I’m so excited! We’re adventuring around the East coast for the first time with a bunch of old and new friends and then finishing off with a hometown headliner. The tour starts with Canberra and Melbourne so I’m currently in the market for some nice and thick jackets.

What can we expect from your live shows?

Dancing and chaos wrapped in pastel satin. We’ve got such a wonderful, fun live band and we’re all up for a boogie and a banter so that seems to be the kind of vibe we attract in a crowd. We’re playing our whole new ep + a couple overs and maybe some bonus tracks *wink wink*. It should be a really fun time!

Who are you listening to at the moment?

Right this second I’m listening to Jenette Mccurdy’s audiobook. But in terms of music recently I’ve been hyperfixating over Belle Haven’s new songs, Lewis Capaldi’s new album and a bit of Black Flag. I really like to keep spotify’s algorithm guessing in terms of what to recommend to me.

What’s planned for the remainder of 2023?

Well we’re going to release this EP finally, make some new friends up and down the east coast and then maaaaybe even release a little more music before the year ends.

NOASIS INTERVIEW

by the partae June 19, 2023
written by the partae
Where are you currently based?

South Australia Adelaide.

How did NOASIS form?

In a dis-used hotel room back in England really to pick up the disappointed who couldn’t buy tickets to see Oasis.

What’s been happening recently?

Noasis are prepping for the Australian dates kicking off in July. All major cities and great venues. We’ve been working on production and honing that Wall Of Sound.

Your latest single ‘Walk On’ is out now, what influenced the sound and songwriting?

Tom Spiby’s brainchild. He’s also into electronic music and produces vibes like Walk On from his Lo-Fi studio. Darren and Tom got together to put some riffs and things to it and out it popped. The rest of the band were blissfully drinking Stone & Wood somewhere at the time.

How did this single come about?

As above.

Where and when did you record/produce/master and who did you work with?

Lo-Fi vibe so we did most of it in our studio. It then went over to Gabriel Agostino (Best World Music Album award winner) for mixing and finally onto Wayne @Suture for mastering.

How did you approach the recording process?

Casually and ad-hoc. The story goes Tom whipped this tune up one Saturday night whilst sulking about lack of money.
His friends popped around to see him later and he aired it to them. They (having been out probably on the Stone & Wood) dancing all around the place to Walk On and so it made the cut.

You have an upcoming tour, what can we expect from a NOASIS show?

As you’ll guess by the name this show is about bringing that Wall Of Sound Oasis are famous for, back to life. A punter can expect to be bamboozled by the uncanny likeness of the look and the sound of Noasis. “A support band member said a few weeks ago that watching Noasis fucks with his head, and the lines blur between what once was and what is in front of him” I took it as a compliment and passed him a Stone & Wood.
But big show.. Big Sound.. Big Production.. big headache the day after.

Any shows that you’re particularly looking forward to play?

The Triffid Brisbane is an insane venue to play and attend.  Also very excited to play the new Hindley Street Music Hall in Adelaide. NEXT LEVEL PRODUCTION!!!

Where are you headed?

To the shower.

Who are you listening to at the moment?

Sam Fender.

What’s planned for the remainder of 2023?
Gigs/write/record/sleep/repeat.

Favourite food and place to hangout?

Vegan Pho and Miss Hoi An who provides the Pho.

Meanjin/Brisbane’s own Cedarsmoke is adding to their already massive back-catalogue announcing their sophomore album ‘The Great & The Terrible’ with the release of the joyful teaser ‘Goodnight Marianne’, out today.

This lively indie-rock song features jaunty melodies and playful lyrics that weave together a romantic comedy narrative. As the titular character and her paramour embark on a journey of doubt and certainty, we are treated to a delightful blend of witty banter, stock market contemplation, and clumsy attempts at affection.

With its infectious energy and catchy hooks, ‘Goodnight Marianne’ showcases Jon Cloumassis’ (frontman and singer-songwriter) knack for crafting memorable and relatable songs. The track opens with a single acoustic guitar, setting a heartfelt and intimate tone before evolving into a full-band rocker. Influenced by the spirited rock ‘n’ roll of the 1950s, the song’s doo-wop chord progression adds a nostalgic touch to the quivery melodies.

Lyrically, ‘Goodnight Marianne’ touches on themes that thread throughout the album, with references to ‘The Wizard of Oz’ and a central focus on the concept of change. Cloumassis, known for his distinctive vocals and charming metaphors, brings the narrative to life with his evocative storytelling. The track’s bittersweet tone captures the complexities of relationships and the ups and downs of life’s unpredictable journey.Following the success of their previous releases, including the well-received ‘Into The Wild World’, Cedarsmoke is poised to grow their huge catalogue of music with ‘The Great & The Terrible’. The album is a 12-track eclectic amalgamation of Cedarsmoke’s signature sonic and lyrical style. From energetic indie-rock to heartfelt acoustic folk-style ballads and piano-driven numbers, ‘The Great & The Terrible’ explores the unpredictability and challenges of dealing with change.

“‘The Great & The Terrible’ is an exploration of change in all its forms and manifestations. Throughout the album, characters are introduced when they are in a state of change, whether it’s beginnings or endings. Inspired by, and deriving its name from The Wizard of Oz, the album intersperses allusions and references to the story’s characters, scenes and famous locations.

After our eclectic debut album, I wanted to make something that was more cohesive. As a result, ‘The Great & The Terrible’ features a select orchestra of instruments and tones in the guise of 1970’s folk-rock. Sonically influenced by classic albums, Blonde On Blonde and Born To Run, the songs have lyrical and folk cores that are minimally embellished with a select few instruments such as piano, acoustic guitars, organs, pedal steel, and harmonica.”

Recorded and mixed by Cam Smith (Tape/Off, Spirit Bunny, Terra Pines), ‘The Great & The Terrible’ promises to be a musical journey that showcases Cedarsmoke’s lyric-driven pop, dark-humored observations, and moody charm.Cedarsmoke’s previous releases have garnered widespread praise and support from esteemed music platforms such as Triple J, Triple J Unearthed, Double J, MTV,  Pilerats, The Music, AU Review, AAA Backstage, Hysteria Mag, Scenestr and more.

‘Goodnight Marianne’
will be available on all major streaming platforms now, serving as feel-good preview of what’s to come with ‘The Great & The Terrible’ on July 14.
