Today, I DONT KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME (iDKHOW), the musical project of Salt Lake City-based singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Dallon Weekes, releases their sophomore album GLOOM DIVISION via Concord Records. It follows singles ‘WHAT LOVE?’, ‘GLOOMTOWN BRATS’ and ‘INFATUATION’. Produced by Dave Fridmann (Tame Impala, MGMT, Weezer), GLOOM DIVISION showcases a boundary-pushing fusion of R&B, post-punk and art-pop, exploring themes ranging from love and obsession to satanic panic and neurodivergence. Recorded at Fridmann’s Tarbox Road Studios and Weekes’ own basement studio, GLOOM DIVISION is a testament to the power of collaboration and fearless artistic expression.

The album release is accompanied by a music video for track ‘DOWNSIDE’ that touches on becoming so enamored with a romantic partner that it can be difficult to find faults in the relationship. A thunderous bassline and whispered vocals open that track that breaks into danceable avant-pop.

‘DOWNSIDE’ music video dir. by Aiden Weber

Italian Talent DAMANTE Announces Zouk Las Vegas Residency and Releases Spicy New Latin House Single “Turn Me On” with Gabry Ponte on Cr2 Records

Title: Turn Me On
Label: Cr2 Records

DAMANTE is back with a brand new single and an exciting announcement for fans who want to see more of him in 2024; the DJ and producer has just announced his Las Vegas residency at the wildly popular Zouk Nightclub, which begins on March 16th. The Italian sensation has also teamed up with Gabry Ponte for his release “Turn Me On,” a dancefloor heater, out now on UK‘s Cr2 Records, that’s guaranteed to get the crowd moving. The track fuses sultry vocals and Latin-infused melodies with a tech-house bassline for an enticing sonic journey. Although he’s relatively new to the scene, DAMANTE‘s Zouk Las Vegas residency has him joining the likes of ODESZA, Nicky Romero, ILLENIUM, DJ Snake, deadmau5, Kaskade, SLANDER, T-Pain, and more. Read on for what the artist himself had to say about both “Turn Me On” and the residency below:

“I got into playing music when I was 12 because my family passed down this awesome passion. Started off just jamming for fun at parties ’cause I always loved it. And over time, that love turned into my absolute favorite thing to do. Somehow, I turned it into my job, and that 12-year-old me would never have guessed I’d be a resident DJ in Las Vegas at a spot like Zouk. Crazy, right? It’s a cool moment, a big deal for me, but really, it’s just the start. I wanna take over not just Vegas but rock stages all across the USA soon.” – DAMANTE about Las Vegas residency

“Working with Gabry Ponte was a total honor. When we started putting this track together, we both felt it had some serious power. Just a few years ago, teaming up with a legend like Gabry seemed impossible. Now, he’s even more legendary, not just in Europe but all over the world. So, it’s awesome to have collaborated with him. The track itself is a beast, a Latin-house fusion that could bring some real satisfaction. I gotta stress; for me, it’s just the kickoff of a new chapter in my music journey. I haven’t dropped much in the past year and a half because I’ve been hustling to reshape my whole approach to music. Fingers crossed that the coming years will be solid for me.” – DAMANTE about “Turn Me On” with Gabry Ponte

DAMANTE (Andrea Damante) is a well-known Italian DJ and producer. Thanks to his crazy energy in front of the public, his name began to spread from private parties to the local hotspot clubs of his home city, Verona. Expanding his network day by day, he had the honor to open for Bob Sinclair, NERVO, Vinai, Serebro, and many more. As well as his DJing career, he began working on his first musical productions, which made him achieve in just a few years the disclosure of his first Gold record with “Follow My Pump” with over 11M streams on Spotify and 29M views on Youtube. With his last releases like “SCARS” with Chico Rose and “Slap Me,” he is definitely aiming at an international audience. He was also chosen as a testimonial of important brands such as YSL, Guess, Mont Blanc, and Marciano. After more than 500 shows across Europe since 2017, including Tomorrowland, Dream Village Festival, Red Valley Festival, Cavo Paradiso, Amnesia, Super Paradise, in October 2023, Damante has performed together with DJ Snake and Tiësto 2 exclusive shows at one of the greatest clubs in Las Vegas – Zouk Nightclub.

Crafting Emotion: Christine Tarquinio’s Interview on the Art of Musical Storytelling in ‘All Angles’

by the partae February 29, 2024
written by the partae

All Angles” is described as a journey into the intricate dance of control, strength, and unspoken struggles within. How did you approach capturing these emotions in both the lyrics and the musical composition of the song?

For me I find the concept for the melody easier to develop first and try to evoke the emotion that shows the feeling of the story.  The lyrics are quite steadfast from the first verse. I try to capture a perception of strength from the outset but as the song develops, I reveal that “on the inside I completely fall apart’. It’s the nature of humans to try and show up every day and be their best but sometimes situations out of our control can change our feelings in the blink of an eye and our strength can be challenged. We feel this need to keep going on as normal, even though we may be struggling.

As a singer-songwriter, you draw inspiration from your role as a mother and the challenges of family life. How did your experiences as a mother influence the creation of “All Angles,” and how do you balance the storytelling aspects with the musical elements?

Being a mother is a great source of inspiration to me in writing my music. I have young children who are navigating the world for themselves.  The notion of being able to take any bad feelings away is my wish for them. In this song I try to balance with the lyrics and musical elements, the real world versus perfect work scenario of being able to solve all their problems.

The song touches on the profound sense of presence required to defend one’s family when it matters most. Can you share a specific personal experience or moment that inspired the theme and message behind “All Angles”?

Being a parent, I see my children following a similar path to me.  Making friends and going through school life. If they have a bad day, it often takes me back to my own experiences of growing up. Not all kids were kind to me growing up and it stays with you. If you see your own children going to a similar experience, then you can feel helpless. I wrote this song to show my children I am there for them as one of their greatest supporters in life.

“All Angles” is your first release since your EP in mid-2023. What prompted the timing of this release, and did the creative process differ for this song compared to your previous works?
I did allow myself to take a break from creating music last year. I am always working on writing new music but it felt like the right time just after New Years to dive back into recording. The creative process was slightly different as my producer was overseas so the mixing/mastering was done remotely, and I would just submit my vocals/guitar. It was an enjoyable experience. I was lucky to find someone to work with who was very talented, had a great vision and musicality and most of all was very patient. The song came together very quickly but it was a lot of fun.

Being a singing teacher, you play a crucial role in fostering the next generation of vocal talent. How does your experience as a teacher influence your own approach to songwriting and music production?
There are sometimes certain rules that need to be applied with technique and pitch when teaching singing. However, it also needs to be fun and it is okay to make mistakes.  That is also the key to songwriting.  Some things will work, some don’t but you can bend the rules and not necessarily have to fit into one box.  All voices are unique and are a gift. That is the main message I give to my students.

You’ve utilized your guitar to establish the emotional framework for your songs in “All Angles.” Can you delve into your creative process when working with the guitar and how it contributes to the emotional depth of your music?
The guitar is often my go to instrument when writing any song. One small riff or a few chords on my guitar can instantly shape the way a song may turn out. With just a guitar it gives me freedom to explore melodies and experiment with new sounds and styles with my voice. This process can often take time and I don’t like to rush this process. I am happier to start a song and then leave it for a few days and come back to it fresh with new ideas.

Your musical style is described as a synthesis of various influences, including Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Coldplay, Muse, Gwen Stefani, Natalie Imbruglia, and Jewel. How do you navigate merging these influences to create a unique and authentic sound that represents Christine Tarquinio?
I am inspired by all of these amazing musicians as their music resonates with me so much. I can get lost in their music and forget about any worries I may have. I love the ability to escape in a song just for a moment and this group are very good at it. I really like the fact they are humble and also family is super important to all of them I think that is why I gravitate towards their music, and they inspire me to be my best authentic self with my music.

The song reflects the challenges of family life. Can you share some specific themes or moments in the song that highlight these challenges, and how important is it for you to convey both the joys and difficulties of being a parent through your music?
This is a great question. The absolute joy of seeing your family happy, succeeding in their own lives and just being content is the goal. The difficulties are anything that gets in the way of these things. In the beginning of the song there is a theme alluding to difficult times had in the past. However, it is reflecting on what I do next. Even though we are being tested, I am now making a plan for what comes next. The joy in the song is me taking back my power and seeing a sense of normality returning once again.

“All Angles” is produced, mixed, and mastered by Daniel Nieberg. How did the collaboration with Daniel enhance the overall sound and message of the song, and what was the most rewarding aspect of working together?

Working with Daniel was an amazing experience.  He interpreted my song so amazingly well. All he had to go on was my demo guitar and vocals only. He then used the piano to compost this this amazing, dreamy almost hypnotic track. The most rewarding part was the collaboration of ideas. Even though it was all done online it was still so easy to discuss changes and new ideas and trying a few different things until we agreed the song was finally ready.

Celebrating nearly a decade since your debut release, how has your approach to music and songwriting evolved over the years, and what lessons have you learned that continue to shape your musical journey?
Well I have been lucky to work with a few amazing producers over the last 10 years and they all bring something unique to each project. I have found it is a good idea to try working with different musicians and producers as it keeps you inspired and willing to try out new ideas. In that way I think my music has been able to evolve naturally. My process for writing has always been the same it is always me with a guitar and my phone close by to record any gems of an idea that pop up. I really would like to do more co-writing on songs, from the outset that is something I look forward to in the years ahead.

Sustainability is mentioned as one of your commitments. How does this commitment manifest in your music career, and do you incorporate sustainable practices in other aspects of your life as well?
Music is my outlet for expression, it makes me happy, it provides emotional release. I need to do it for my well-being so like any other thing in life I always make time for this.  It must be a balance. This is so important to me, and it is a part of who I am. The fact that I get to share my music and my stories across the world is a humbling experience and I am so grateful I get to do this.  The joy comes back full circle as I see comments from the people who are enjoying my music.

Looking ahead to the next decade of your musical career, what goals and aspirations do you have, and how do you envision your sound evolving in the future?

I am taking more of an interest in the production side of music. It is still a way off for now, but it is something I aspire to do. I look forward to doing some more collaboration songs with other singers. That would be amazing too. I hope my sound will keep evolving so it is still present and relevant and still able to make an impact on the listener.

REGURGITATOR ANNOUNCE MASSIVE NATIONAL TOUR SPANNING 21 DATES IT’S SO INVASIVE…TOUR 2024

by the partae February 28, 2024
written by the partae
Regurgitator announce It’s So Invasive…Tour 2024, spanning a colossal 21 dates across the nation this May and June.

It’s so invasive…

Let’s get this flow on the road.

This ain’t no pop show… this here is an epic all-out crashing the rocks show. From a year past of Units, Kiss, Weezer, and a feast of festivals we head into this coming year with a sense of escalation and elevation… all with a new album in hand headed your way – Invader. Teaming up on this rather invasive run will be great friends of Regurgitator, those no-wavin’ jazz punksters PARTY DOZEN, along with select appearances by Tasmaniainan locals THE SUBCULTURE CLIQUE; digital hardcore eggpunkers DISPLEASURE, and Brisbane’s mechanical techno retro-futurists MONSTER ZOKU ONSOMB!… and extra special blood red cream in selected metro zones is the glitter punk-pop of CRY BABY. This is gonna be fun.

Noise annoys… it surrounds us all with an ever-present insistence. It fills our screens, our minds,… and our world with a gaze of distractions. Just an invasion of pervasive white noise historywide, propelled by an armada of commerce hell-bent on leaching the goodness of this world for material gain. Driving into mayhem through time, told this rumbling engine of capitalism has always been the undercarriage of this breaking chassis. Culture and country fall prey to this fervour of infection like a virus with no restitution.

Absolute respect to our ever-loving fan base. You are our all and everything. We commit to you in the manner you commit to us. You inspire us over and over. As we enter the water dragon of our 30th year it is your ongoing enthusiasm that rides us high and mighty. At the end of the day when we stand on stages across this land playing our hearts out to you we know with clarity and awareness that it is you our fans who are the base of our being. We never forget that and we love you all the more for it! Build with us.

In our limited capacity, we will do our best to make a stand for the dispossessed, disenfranchised, and anyone suffering injustice in the broadest manner we can. The world is served best by compassion and cooperation. We, without question, acknowledge these lands we exist, create, and tour upon as stolen and pay our respects to the traditional custodians of this life-giving country, both elders past and present.

“Nothing ever works in isolation and neither do we.”

PARTY DOZEN
Party Dozen are a 2-piece from Sydney made up of Kirsty Tickle (saxophone) and
Jonathan Boulet (percussion and sampler). Forming in 2017, they have become
renowned in Australia for their incendiary live shows and three remarkable albums.
Blending elements of psych, hardcore, no-wave and jazz, their largely instrumental
sets are punctuated by Kirsty’s unique “singing” style, screaming into the bell of her
saxophone, which goes through a bevvy of effects pedals. The last three years have
seen them tour Europe, the USA, Japan and China, release a record on Sub Pop and
have Nick Cave feature as guest vocalist on single “Macca The Mutt”.

DISPLEASURE (New Zealand)
Displeasure are a high-energy industrial punk three-piece, playing a hybrid of anarcho-punk and digital hardcore from Aotearoa New Zealand. Equal parts furious and catchy, buzz-saw guitars and politically charged vocals are propelled by heavy synth-bass and pounding electro-acoustic drums. Combining elements of industrial gabber, raging d-beat, and new wave eggpunk, Displeasure draws from the likes of DAF, Crass, Ministry and Devo, with a dose of the Mortal Kombat soundtrack.

“Like some kind of politically laser-focussed Devo / Six Finger Satellite, the trio bust out furiously catchy and whip-smart, almost New Wavey hooks — feeling aptly sci-fi in their critique of Western capitalism’s increasingly absurd, neototalitarian anti-human death drive (and accompanying symptoms).”  –UnderTheRadar

CRY CLUB
If Cry Club — consisting of guitarist Jonathon Tooke (he/him) and vocalist Heather Riley (they/them) — can be distilled down to one thing (besides their trademark makeup of glittery trails of tears down their cheeks), it’s their knack for turning unsightly and complicated feelings into cathartic punk-pop.

Pulling from their past lives in math-rock and musical theatre, Cry Club have entered their “villain era” on their second album “Spite Will Save Me”. A tight 10-track romp through all manner of rock ranging from Van Halen-esque hair metal to Rage Against the Machine Thrashers. Cry Club are eager to play Spite Will Save Me to fans, creating environments where fans can thrash through their feelings and embrace their inner emo. Join the club.

MONSTER ZOKU ONSOMB! (MZO)
Crawling out of the pre-Olympic rubble of Meanjin, MZO! reform to unify Australia with Rave whistles, Hoovers and Tequila-infused Earworms! Unlike anything you have experienced, this 5-piece ensemble has started riots across the planet with a cyclone of counter-cultural energy that confronts Hguman with Machine, Techno with Rock, and Retro with Futurism. “What is this!?” you may find yourself asking…
MZO! are the WAKE-UP call that you forgot you ordered. The ANSWER to the question you didn’t ask.
The CURE you never knew you needed. And the EXCLAMATION mark at the end of time and space.
MZO! ARE the ELECTROSHOCK therapy our meta-modern age craves, and they are BACK! Amping up the power to jumpstart our disengaged hearts.

EIMHIN RETURNS WITH ENTRANCING NEW TRACK “FADING EMBER HYMN”

by the partae February 28, 2024

PRE-SAVE HERE

PREVIEW HERE

Gold Coast / Yugambeh based Irish-folk artist Eimhin (pronounced Ev-an) has returned with his entrancing new single “Fading Ember Hymn”. With his previous track “7 Months In Space” garnering notable industry praise, “Fading Ember Hymn” marks the latest addition to his upcoming debut album Modern Mending (of the heart).

As the name suggests, this ruminative track echoes feelings of melancholy with sweet and solemn orchestrals. Eimhin’s ethereal vocals bring warmth to a chilling soundscape of harp, violin and organ. Layered instruments swell and fade as Eimhin captures the complex feeling of watching a loved one drift from you and having to relinquish control as you realise the gap cannot be closed.

Eimhin shared, “Fading Ember Hymn is about worrying about somebody that you care about. I wrote most of it at the start of a relationship when things were good and finished it some years later after we had broken up. Perspective can be sobering. I wanted it to feel like a prayer, so we opted for using sparse organ and electric piano parts bookended with a lonely violin to evoke a longing.

I wanted the end to feel triumphant somehow, that’s where the melodic shift and the refrain takes place. I like the looseness of it, it feels nostalgic to me.”

Eimhin’s debut album Modern Mending (of the heart) is due out mid-2024.

Eimhin “7 Fading Ember Hymn” Single Launch

Thursday 29 February 2024

El Ranchero, Burleigh Heads, QLD

Free entry

Originally hailing from Ireland, Eimhin has had quite the musical journey before setting down roots in Australia and establishing himself as a force to be reckoned with in the indie-folk scene. Eimhin explored musical theatre in his teenage years before answering to the call of punk rock, hardcore, glam and emo, playing in multiple bands. Inspired by fashion icons like David Bowie and Prince, Eimhin gravitates toward the unorthodox and challenges restrictive cultural norms through his gender expression.

Since moving to Australia and finding his feet as a folk artist, Eimhin has shared a stage with the likes of First Beige and Peach Fur and scored himself a Video of The Year nomination at the 2023 Gold Coast Music Awards for “Lately”. Eimhin set out on an 11 date EU tour in June 2023 before returning to play an unofficial BIGSOUND showcase. Capturing audiences with his Irish charm and alluring presence, Eimhin is doing his darndest to be his authentic self whilst making some incredible music in the process.

Nicky Romero Gears Up For 2024’s Ultra Music Festival Performance With New Single “All Night Long,” Which He Premiered at The Festival Last Year. Out Now on Protocol Recordings

by the partae February 26, 2024
written by the partae

Artist: Nicky Romero
Title: All Night Long
Label: Protocol Recordings

Download / Stream

With the 2024 festival season quickly approaching, Nicky Romero is ready to get the party started with his new track – “All Night Long.” The legendary DJ and producer is at his best with this release, fusing his progressive house roots with a more pop-oriented aesthetic to make for a track with plenty of four-on-the-floor bass, percussive synths, and upbeat piano melodies. The vocals and lyrics add the perfect complement to the record, making for a dancefloor heater that’s sure to get the crowd moving at many of his upcoming festival and club sets. If this doesn’t scream “Who’s ready for Miami Music Week?” we’re not sure what does. “All Night Long” was premiered by Romero at UMF back in 2023 and serves as a perfect prologue to his forthcoming Ultra Music Festival performance this year in March. It also follows Nicky‘s “Tomorrow Comes” with Deniz Koyu and Jaimes from January. As always, stay tuned for more dynamic dancefloor gems from Nicky and the Protocol family.

“I wrote ‘All Night Long‘ during a production camp here at the studios in early 2023. After the camp, I finished it and played it at the Ultra Music Festival in 2023 as an opening track of my set. It’s an uplifting record that quickly gives the crowd a good vibe.” – Nicky Romero

After taking the world by storm with early hits such as “Legacy” with Krewella, “Like Home” with NERVO and the #1 single “I Could Be The One” with Avicii, Nicky Romero quickly proved that his talent is ever-evolving and here to stay. After launching his Protocol Recordings imprint in 2012, the renowned performer, producer, and label head continued his personal successes with a string of high-profile releases, ranging from collaborations with Armin van Buuren, David Guetta, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, W&W, Timmy Trumpet, Steve Aoki, Jonas Blue and Hardwell to remixes for the likes of Bebe Rexha, Robin Schulz, Kygo, Rita Ora, Steve Aoki, Martin Garrix, Jess Glynne, Calvin Harris, RAYE, and more. While showcasing his label’s roster via his weekly Protocol Radio show, Nicky Romero continues to innovate and evolve, and with his annual “Nicky Romero & Friends” ADE showcase and the launch of Monocule alter-ego, he keeps proving his ability to turn into gold everything he touches and continues to push boundaries with each show concept, where he has set the bar high late last year with his first-ever solo show – “Nightvision,” and new release, forever instilling himself as a dance music icon.

UK’s Switch Disco Team Up with Multi-platinum Artists R3HAB and Sam Feldt For Upbeat House Single “Sleep Tonight (This Is The Life).” Out Now on

by the partae February 26, 2024
written by the partae

Artists: Switch Disco, R3HAB, Sam Feldt
Title: Sleep Tonight (This Is The Life)
Label: Sony Music/Relentless Records

Download / Stream

UK‘s masters of mash-ups, Switch Disco, have teamed up with the renowned multi-platinum Dutch producers R3HAB and Sam Feldt for an impressive joining of forces on their new track “Sleep Tonight (This Is The Life),” a dynamic house-pop tune that fuses each artists’ signature style. The track opens with its soulful vocals shining over a bouncy bassline, incorporating energetic melodies and deeper notes to make for a fun yet moody piece that feels at home in the club or on the radio, and we have to agree that Switch Disco brings the perfect amount of heat in “Sleep Tonight.” R3HAB and Sam most recently worked together when Feldt remixed R3HAB, INNA and Sash! ‘s summer hit “Rock My Body.”

“We are honored to be collaborating with two of our favorite artists on our new single – ‘Sleep Tonight.’ Both R3HAB and Sam Feldt‘s records have been part of our live sets for many years, so to be releasing a track together is yet another dream come true for us. We hope that we have done justice to Amy Macdonald‘s original.” – Switch Disco

“Switch Disco made an instant impact with their dance hit ‘REACT‘ and when I first heard it I knew we had to join forces. We were stoked when Sam Feldt joined the production as well. Sam and I remixed each other’s 2023 summer hit records, and our energies are a great fit. We combined the best of us in ‘Sleep Tonight,’ and we hope you love it as much as we do.” – R3HAB

“Teaming up with R3HAB and Switch Disco on ‘Sleep Tonight‘ has been nothing short of magical. After remixing their tracks in the past, coming together for this collab feels like a reunion of old friends, crafting something truly special. This track embodies our combined passion for dance music, a perfect blend of our distinct styles that feels like a warm embrace in the form of a song. It’s a celebration, a moment we’ve all created together, and I can’t wait for you to feel the energy and emotion we’ve poured into it.” – Sam Feldt

Switch Disco

Fresh from their hugely successful Ella Henderson collaboration “REACT” earlier this year, the UK‘s number one mashup DJ duo Switch Disco are dropping their new music via Relentless Records. “REACT” was nominated for BRIT Awards, peaked at #4 in the UK Official Charts, 10 weeks in the UK Official Chart’s ‘Top 10‘. The track now ranks as the UK‘s #2nd best-selling Dance track released this year, #6th best-selling track released in 2023, and 18th best-selling track of the year overall. This two-man DJ / producer team has been working alongside each other for almost 10 years since their individual careers in the British and Greek music scenes collided together, resulting in a truly unique creative partnership. This summer has been their biggest ever with a 21-week residency at Ibiza Rocks in addition to multiple shows a week across Europe and the US.
