Norma Jean Martine follows one of the biggest hits of 2020 with yet another huge tune. This track is so infectious, one listen and you will be humming the chorus all day. This time the happy vibes of ‘Head Shoulder Knees and Toes’ are replaced by an ever so fitting sentiment of people lost, that still manages to lift the heart. The original version is a beautiful slice of deep-pop music while Dutch club legend MOTi transforms it into a punchy main room sad banger that will turn kitchens into nightclubs all year long. MOTi delivers one of his typically effervescent club reworkings, beginning with a simple arrangement where dramatic synth hits blast over looping keys. The beat picks up, and fist-pumping piano chords greet us in the build-up. He mashes and carves her vocals for the drop as chunky house beats and fierce bass blasts drop in, bringing in the chorus refrain in glorious fashion and keeping the beat rolling into the second verse. The second break pushes the track into overdrive, with an immensely satisfying final drop thereafter. “Visiting Hours is a song that’s very dear to my heart because it was written for my very close life long friend who passed away a few years ago. Even though the verses are very specific to my friend and I, the chorus is very universal in terms of grief and loss. I wrote it for my friend, but I sang it at my brother’s funeral last year, and it brought me and so many others comfort when I sang it live. In a time where there has been so much unprecedented loss, I feel this song will really connect with people, and hopefully bring some comfort.” says Norma Jean Martine. The 3-track EP is completed with a breathtaking, stripped-back cover version of The Beatles’ ‘Hey Jude’ like you’ve never heard it before. Almost an acapella version, her fragile, emotion-drenched delivery is bolstered only by the subtlest of atmospheric, ambient sounds, with the gentlest of acoustic guitars and harmonies added in for the finale. Norma recorded the cover as a tribute to her father’s late cousin whom she was very close with and sadly passed away recently. “Despite my greatest efforts, I still broke down halfway through the song, but I left it in because it was real and a moment in time. I’m not sure what they originally intended with the lyrics, but lines like “take a sad song, and make it better” felt so relevant in the moment and brought me so much comfort.” says Norma Jean Martine on her cover of The Beatles’ original. Her skeletal version of the track brings out the dramatic beauty of the song and perfectly fits the ‘Visiting Hours’ EP. About Norma Jean Martine Alt-pop talent Norma Jean Martine is the superstar vocalist with the recognizable husky, powerhouse voice and strong songwriting skills. OUT NOW

US rapper, Zoey Dollaz originally released his track ‘Post & Delete’ in 2017 featuring one of the contemporary R&B voices of our time, Chris Brown. With an underlying message that shines a light on social media addicts and those who take their timeline way too seriously, the track struck a chord and quickly became an international hit.

With an eye for the biggest records, it soon came to the attention of Kiss FM’s DJ Pioneer who remixed the original with a fresh UK House spin. Pioneer has engineered this one for the UK’s airwaves, streaming playlists and ultimately the dancefloor for when it is safe to return.

Fast paced and energetic, he utilises the original vocal with great effect, adding rolling basslines, synth stabs and an infectious chorus. This is well executed House, that pays perfect homage to the original. This is not his first success with a rework, it was Kele Le Rocs ‘My Love’, which amassed over 1 Million cumulative streams and featured on a number of compilations that brough him initial heat.

London based DJ Pioneer is an International House DJ, producer, radio personality, tastemaker and label boss of SOTU (Sounds Of The Underground). Credited as being one of a few artists to birth a new electronic music genre UK Funky. Now into his 13th year on the UK’s leading Dance radio station Kiss FM, he is central in breaking the careers of many new artists.

Loneliness bites at 4am and the call is made… Paris Youth Foundation’s latest anthem to bad breakup decisions is here: THE BACK SEAT

by the partae January 30, 2021
written by the partae

Although seeing their limitless ambitions frustrated by their lost year, Paris Youth Foundation continue to build on the dream foundations of their first ever shows being headline appearances at Leeds and Reading Festivals. Working with Blossoms and Courteeners producer, Rich Turvey at the legendary Parr Street Studios, Liverpool, The Back Seat brings out the best in the talented pop makers, entwining carnal, danceable beats and stadium-sized guitars in an unmissable landgrab on ground taken up by peers including Catfish and The Bottlemen, The 1975 and Two Door Cinema Club.

Assembled of Potter with Tom Morris Jones and Jamie Hives on guitars, drummer, Nathan Price and Mike Bower picking up bass guitar, the band formed in Liverpool in 2016 and scored near immediate BBC Radio One playlisting. Confidently playing into the hype surrounding their emergence, Paris Youth Foundation have since enjoyed packed UK tours, both as headliners and in support of bands including The Magic Gang, earning themselves a strong and growing following.

The band’s name comes from graffiti spotted in a Metro Station in the French capital, remembered by Potter from a childhood visit and decided, spur of the moment, for the release of the band’s breakthrough debut, If You Wanna.

LEMAIRE TEAMS UP WITH NAMASTE FOR THE FEEL GOOD SINGLE, 'OneNotTwo'

LEMAIRE TEAMS UP WITH NAMASTE FOR THE FEEL GOOD SINGLE, ‘OneNotTwo’

by the partae January 30, 2021
written by the partae

Gold Coast based artist Lemaire has teamed up with Queensland collective Namaste to bring us the heart-warming feel good track OneNotTwo. It follows on from his successful releases of 2020, Roll Call, Where’s Up and Calling To Say.

In a romantic example of art imitating life, OneNotTwo is an ideal collaboration between the exciting young Queensland-based artists. Chronicling the real-life tale of how Lemaire met his fiancé, the up-tempo, groove-infused song incorporates some hooky guitar work, neo-soul chords and an elegant drum pattern. Boasting a captivating vocal performance with memorable lyrics and several singalong worthy moments, OneNotTwo is proof that when you know, you know.

OneNotTwo is basically the story of how I met my fiancé. It’s the cheesiest, sappiest song I’ve ever written and I love it’ – LEMAIRE

OneNotTwo sets the benchmark of what will be a big year ahead for Lemaire as he sets off with the intention of releasing a brand-new single every month in 2021. With an already impressive back catalogue spanning the-passed two years and big love from some of Australia’s biggest tastemakers including Triple J Unearthed, AAA Backstage and more, the coming year looks very bright for the young talented Queenslander.

LISTEN TO ‘OneNotTwo’ HERE

At age 7, LEMAIRE discovered Redman’s highly explicit “Doc’s Da Name” album, hidden in an old trunk at his family home. He began listening in secret, and before long an obsession with hip-hop was born.

Gathering influence from an eclectic range of artists; Anderson .Paak, Ed Sheeran, Kendrick Lamar, and Jimi Hendrix, LEMAIRE combines aspects of hip-hop, pop, neo-soul and RnB in his studio recordings and live shows. He spends his days equipped with his Fender Stratocaster, bouncing between countless studios and rehearsal rooms across Southern Queensland and Northern NSW.

LEMAIRE began performing as a busker at the age of 15, a hobby that quickly became his full-time job. He spent years writing songs and travelling Australia, New Zealand, Europe and Canada with his guitar before settling in Gold Coast to set up his own home studio, and begin releasing his own original work.

2020 was LEMAIRE’s loudest year yet, from his breakout single “Where’s Up? (Feat. Jay Orient & JK-47)” being streamed and playlisted across the globe on Spotify, to his radio debut on Triple J with his single “Roll Call”. The leaked, unreleased collaboration with Namaste titled “Rocket Ship”, which is set for an official release in February 2021, has accumulated over 1.5 million views on YouTube and he has been lucky enough to work alongside acts such as ILLY, J K – 4 7 , a n d N e r v e .

Namaste touches on the belief that all humans share a spiritual connection. It’s that bond that brought together a range of musicians to form a production alliance. Once strangers, their similarities sparked a friendship that’s birthed a unique musical collective. All were born abroad but now bask in Australia’s sunshine and all share a mutual love for emotive vocals across all genres. With releases on Black Butter Records, Armada, Universal Music and PRMD Records in their discography, as well as millions of plays on streaming services, they’ve quickly established themselves as in-demand producers Down Under. Disguised in anonymity, Namaste could be old or young in age, experienced or rookies in profession. But none of that will matter when their blissful sound touches upon the soul of the listener.

“Real vibe on this one! Stays super smooth and then you drop the JK-47 verse like sheeeee” – Dave Ruby Howe, Triple J

“it’s clever, fun and got the mood set just right. another good one from lemaire!” – Declan Byrne, Triple J

“Once again Lemaire proves his talents as an incredible and exciting young performer to watch” – AAA Backstage

Pushing Daizies Duo Makes Their Emotive Bass Debut With "Want It To End" Single on Dim Mak Records

Steve Aoki’s Dim Mak releases first ever single of new enigmatic duo Pushing Daizies (out now)

Unidentified duo Pushing Daizies makes their official debut with the future bass inspired track “Want It To End,” released on Dim Mak Records, a groovy and yet emotive vocal anthem that introduces their signature sound. The track’s accompanying lyric video features a simple and yet powerful illustration of two daisies in a storm, bringing the symbolic nature of the duo’s name full circle. Pushing Daizies is composed of two US producers who initially intended to just work together on a few collaborations; however, their workflow during studio sessions held so much promise that the project was born. It was soft-launched this year on January 08 with an official release of their remix of Apashe‘s “Distance” on Kannibalen Records, and now it’s time for the first official single.

“The Pushing Daizies project was almost 2 years in the making, and we couldn’t be more excited to finally roll it out. What began as a couple of collaborations ended up turning into a full project with over 20 unreleased originals. I think the fact that the intention was never to form a duo, and was purely organic, makes this even sweeter. We just hope the world enjoys our music as much as we did creating it.” – Pushing Daizies

Pushing Daizies is the pseudonym of two US-based dance music producers joining forces. The enigmatic duo makes groovy, bass-heavy, electronic dance music that creates an emotional roller coaster, pulling at the heartstrings of its listeners. The project, which initially began as multiple collaborations between the two artists, transpired as their synergy saw no end in sight. “Once we found our rhythm, we knew we had something special. It was bigger than just a few singles. I guess you could say that the project was an accident in the greatest way possible,” said one of the producers. The term “pushing daisies” refers to the flowers that grow over a burial plot when someone dies, which is symbolic of the cycles of life and death, light and dark. Said differently, when someone dies, life is created. We can’t wait to hear what’s next!

R3HAB once again crosses genres and cultures by joining forces with Miami rapper Smokepurpp and Russian TikTok star Rakhim for a multi-lingual single "Fendi," originally a viral on TikTok, which positions itself as one of R3HAB’s most daring productions yet. Opening with a hard-hitting and rhythmic tempo, the track first ventures into the realm of hip-hop influences with rap lyrics and the title's catchy vocal hook. Fans will recognize the subtle but confident shift to R3HAB's signature electronic bass style in the second verse as a slapping bassline takes over. Smokepurpp and Rakhim trade off vocal duties in both English and Rakhim's native Russian language, making "Fendi" full of surprises to keep listeners on their toes. The story behind the song started with a post on R3HAB’s Instagram account calling on Smokepurpp to team up for a rework. The response came quickly from the American rapper, who was more than happy to jump on board. If this new release is any indication of what 2021 has in store for R3HAB, we can't wait to hear more! "I'm always keen on working with artists from different music cultures and learning from them. It was a real blast working with Rakhim and Smokepurpp, who are really talented and both pioneers in their fields. What we came up with feels modern and breaks down so many genre barriers." - R3HAB "When I created the track ‘Fendi,’ my goal was to make it a worldwide hit. And when R3HAB and Smokepurpp offered me a feat, I realized that this was another step towards my goal. I'm sure that collaboration with such cool artists will give "Fendi" its second life and take it to the next level. You're gonna love it." - Rakhim "I've been planning a lot of EDM/house type music for 2021, and I'm excited that one of the first drops was with R3HAB & that we were able to collab with Rakhim. I have a ton of Russian & Eastern European fans, and it's dope to get to do so many collabs with artists over there. Hopefully, we'll all be back on the road to perform this one soon." - Smokepurpp Dutch/Moroccan DJ and producer Fadil El Ghoul, better known as R3HAB, has been trailblazing his way through dance music for the better part of the last decade. From his breakthrough hit remix of Afrojack, Pitbull and Ne-Yo's "Give Me Everything" to his dance anthems, such as "All Around The World (La La La)" and "Lullaby," which have collectively amassed over 600M streams, to his collaborations with the likes of ZAYN, Andy Grammer, Sofia Carson, Timmy Trumpet and more, R3HAB has proven to be one of the most talented and forward-thinking artists in the game. He partnered with Spotify and GATTÜSO to create the first-ever official "mint" single release. In 2016 he founded his label CYB3RPVNK, which passed one billion streams on its catalog within the first two years since its inception. R3HAB himself continues to evolve and diversify his sound by working with a variety of artists around the globe, experimenting with everything from hip-hop to pop through his collaborations. With his combination of innate artistry and innovative attitude, in 2021 R3HAB is continuing his journey among electronic music's elite. Rakhim Abramov is a young hip-hop performer who, in half a year of his musical career, has released seven tracks under the name Rakhim, two of which have become hits throughout Russia and the CIS. Also, success came from America and Europe through TikTok and the top charts on Spotify and Apple Music. Rakhim's work is different from all other artists, and this allows him to rapidly increase a new audience and win the hearts of listeners. Omar Jeffery Pineiro, known professionally as Smokepurpp, is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer. Originally a record producer, Pineiro later found success on the audio distribution platform Soundcloud, which resulted in a joint venture record deal with Alamo Records and Interscope Records. Next, Pineiro released his commercial debut single, "Audi." The single soon became his biggest song with over 78 million plays on SoundCloud and 173 million streams on Spotify. It was followed by a release of his debut commercial mixtape Deadstar, including features from artists such as Chief Keef, Juicy J, and Travis Scott. The mixtape peaked at number 42 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. In 2018 Smokepurpp released two singles from the then-forthcoming "Bless Yo Trap" mixtape called "123" and "Do Not Disturb", the latter of which features Lil Yachty and Offset from Migos.

Rakhim‘s work is different from all other artists, and this allows him to rapidly increase a new audience and win the hearts of listeners.

Next, Pineiro released his commercial debut single, “Audi.” The single soon became his biggest song with over 78 million plays on SoundCloud and 173 million streams on Spotify. It was followed by a release of his debut commercial mixtape Deadstar, including features from artists such as Chief Keef, Juicy J, and Travis Scott. The mixtape peaked at number 42 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. In 2018 Smokepurpp released two singles from the then-forthcoming “Bless Yo Trap” mixtape called “123” and “Do Not Disturb“, the latter of which features Lil Yachty and Offset from Migos.

Big Words Presents: An Afternoon at the Amphitheatre

Saturday February 13th: Fairfield Amphitheatre, Melbourne

13:00 – 21:00

Tickets

For one night only, Big Words present to you this intimate, heavily curated line up of Melbourne’s greatest emerging talent. For lovers of soul, indie and all things alternative, Big Words have gathered some very special bands for a blissful afternoon of exploration. Taking place at the stunning open-air Fairfield amphitheatre, this will be a very special show and the last before the group begin recording their debut album.

2020 was a defining year for Big Words, having released their acclaimed Mixtape ‘Cherry’ which saw them be triple j Feature Artist and caught the attention of international tastemaker media such as Wonderland Magazine, V Magazine and Earmilk.

Finally being able to return to the stage, Big Words have a reputation for pairing their music with bespoke visuals & performance art in what many describe as one of the best live shows in Australia.

There are very limited tickets so please don’t wait.

BIG WORDS

With Drake-like charisma drenched in Beach Boys harmonies – Big Words are Melbourne’s most adored duo, made up of childhood friends Will Scullin and Kieren Lee, showcasing their lush hybrid of alt R&B, indie-pop and soul.

Since being discovered busking by Ghostface Killah during Wu-Tang Clan’s 2016 tour of Australia, Big Words have gone on to amass over 9 million streams, support Hobo Johnson and Tash Sultana on their national tours and play main stage slots at some of the biggest festivals around Australia including Beyond The Valley, Grapevine Gathering and Wildlands.

Their most recent output, mixtape ‘Cherry’ was serendipitously conceived during isolation.Originally the discarded demos from Big Words’ forthcoming debut album, The Cherry Mixtape took on a life of its own during quarantine when the duo were isolated in their apartment. One evening whilst having a few drinks, they decided they would finish off some semi-formed ideas which were never otherwise going to see the light of day. Entirely self-produced and completed in just two weeks, it wasn’t long before they realised these so-called ‘offcuts’ could actually be their best body of work yet. Cherry is a fortuitous treasure, embodying Big Word’s unique ability to create contemporary music, whilst nodding to different eras.

Kieren’s eclectic writing style developed over years of busking on the streets of Melbourne, whilst Will’s signature falsetto and production style has flourished from years of writing and recording at home. Together their sound is inspired by a wide range of visionary artists like Frank Ocean, Amy Winehouse, Mark Ronson, Daniel Caesar and Khruangbin.

Site Information:

The amphitheatre will be separated into two halves of 115 patrons each. You can move around your allocated half throughout the event but cannot cross into the other seated half.

Bar and Food:

The bar will be implementing table service. Patrons can find QR codes dotted around your allocated area with a corresponding number on it. Order to this number, wait until your order arrives and show the bartender your order receipt. You can move around and use other QR codes, just edit the number when ordering to ensure your drink comes to the right place.

ALISON WONDERLAND & VALENTINO KAHN RELEASE OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO FOR 'ANYTHING'

ALISON WONDERLAND & VALENTINO KHAN RELEASE OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO FOR ‘ANYTHING’

by the partae January 29, 2021
written by the partae

Following on the heels of their wildly successful November collaboration “Anything,” electronic music mega heads Alison Wonderland and Valentino Khan excitedly debut the track’s accompanying music video. The official music video is available on Friday, January 29th (AU time) via Diplo’s prolific Mad Decent label.

The “Anything” official music video chronicles a house party in the woods, starring Alison Wonderland and Valentino Khan themselves. Cutting between scenes depicting a lively party and Wonderland working as a mysterious mixologist, the party soon bursts into dynamic colour as the guests sip Wonderland’s magic elixir. A sharp descent into hell-sent madness ensues, as the video turns towards the occult. Both Wonderland and Khan watch into the madness of the partygoers, before finally indulging themselves. Clocking in at just under 4-minutes, the official “Anything” music video is equal parts exciting and bone-chilling.

Quickly amassing over 5 million streams and reaching the triple J Hottest 200, Alison Wonderland and Valentino Khan’s “Anything” solidified itself as a true house music and electronic pop classic. An effortless collision of two sonic styles, “Anything” exudes powerful feminine energy courtesy of Alison Wonderland’s captivating vocal performance, and riveting house music flair by Khan himself. “Anything” received high praise from industry tastemakers such as DJ Mag, Stoney Roads, DJ Times, EDM.com, Dancing Astronaut, and This Song Is Sick, who called the pairing “a beautiful meeting of the minds.” Two long-time heavyweights in the scene with much more to come throughout 2021, these are two artists to be sure to keep an eye on.

About Alison Wonderland:

Alison Wonderland architects a world of her own design as its chief author, creator, and voice. The Sydney-born and Los Angeles-based singer, producer, songwriter, and DJ realises this vision at the intersection of future-facing pop, explosive beat-craft, and eternal dance rhythms.

Emerging in 2009 with regular night club sets around Australia and a series of remixes for everyone from Little Dragon to Justin Bieber, she ignited an international splash in 2015 with the full-length debut, Run. It reached gold status in Australia and earned two ARIA Awards nominations, for Best Dance Release and Best Video for “U Don’t Know”. She went on to debut her live set in the US that year at Coachella. Fast forward to 2017, she achieved the Best New Artist honour at the first-ever Electronic Dance Music Awards, while her remix of Dua Lipa’s “New Rules” soared to #1 on the Billboard Dance Charts.

Her sound has quietly inched towards mainstream ubiquity as the sonic sorceress received the “Highest Female DJ Billing Ever at Coachella,” captured #1 on the Billboard Top Dance/Electronic Albums Chart twice consecutively, headlined sold out arenas around the globe, and clocked upwards of 100 million streams by 2018. Not to mention, triple j declared that “both sonically and vocally, Awake is Alison’s biggest work to date”, The Music called Alison “an intuitive songwriter, who wires into any sort of emotion”, and Stack Magazine named her an “Industry Leader”.  In the US, Billboard gave Awake rave reviews whilst ELLE proclaimed her one of its “Women On The Verge,” and she garnered features from FADER, Glamour, Seventeen, Interview, and more.  Simultaneously, Alison’s Radio Wonderland show, now broadcasting to over 20 countries and featuring prominently on the Sirius XM channel Diplo’s Revolution.

SLOWLY SLOWLY ANNOUNCE DOUBLE LP COLLECTION ‘RACE CAR BLUES EXTENDED EDITION’ FEATURING THE ORIGINAL ‘RACE CAR BLUES’ + NEW ALBUM ‘RACE CAR BLUES – CHAPTER 2’, OUT FEB 26 NEW SINGLE + VIDEO ‘THE LEVEL’ OUT TODAY

Following the whirlwind success of their third album Race Car Blues, Slowly Slowly are announcing details on their follow up release Race Car Blues Extended Edition, out Friday February 26. The double LP collection will feature the original Race Car Blues + a brand new record titled Race Car Blues –  Chapter 2, limited to 500 copies worldwide. Race Car Blues Extended Edition is available for pre-order now via 24Hundred.

The 12 tracks that form Chapter 2 will complete the Race Car Blues story and come almost a year to the day since the original album’s release in February 2020. Where the writing sessions that spawned the first record also spawned Chapter 2, the two albums now join to form a whopping 24-track double album feature.

After premiering via triple j’s Good Nights this week, Slowly Slowly are also officially releasing a taste of what’s come on the new record with new single and video ‘The Level’ out today. On the track, frontman Ben Stewart shares:

“This song is about fighting your instincts, a head vs heart battle. It’s about not wanting to be swept up in whimsical emotion, stay grounded and be pragmatic about the situation – all while butterflies swim around in your stomach. Look out for the two hidden Springsteen lyric references in here!”

The second chapter of Race Car Blues was first seeded with the release of ‘Low’ in late 2019, a slightly off-kilter track for Slowly Slowly at the time, now finding itself sitting snuggly among the Chapter 2 tracklisting. Stewart explains that while the tracks on Chapter 2 didn’t land on the original Race Car Blues, overtime the collection took on a life of its own and called for its own record.

“What we first envisaged as background information that assisted in connecting the dots of Chapter 1 soon became its own entity and has actually planted a few seeds,” he shares.

“In retrospect, some of those pieces that didn’t quite feel like they fit on the original album have served as great stepping stones to where Slowly is headed. Chapter 2 pushes the envelope a little further in every direction – heavier, more pop sensibility and a deeper dive into intimate solo songs.

“This is and has always been the ultimate aim for Slowly Slowly, to celebrate the music we love – anthemic heart on sleeve songwriting – but across a broad spectrum of genres. Having no creative ceiling for this project only pushed that ethos further.”

The announce of Race Car Blues – Chapter 2 comes after the release of its captivating first single ‘Comets & Zombies’ last month. Stepping into the New Year Stewart played a string of sold out Slowly Slowly solo nights along the east coast, meanwhile the band are due to play Live At The Bowl alongside Ocean Alley, Maddy Jane & The Grogans in March, their rescheduled headline Race Car Blues national release tour in June, as well as slots at Full Tilt Festival in Melbourne & Brisbane.  Details below.

2020’s Race Car Blues met an acclaimed response, debuting at #8 on the ARIA Australian Album Chart, taking out the coveted triple j Feature Album slot and clocking knockout global reviews from the likes of Kerrang!, Dead Press, Beat Magazine, Tone Deaf, The Music + more.

Race Car Blues – Chapter 2 is out everywhere Friday February 26 via UNFD. Pre-order the full Race Car Blues Extended Edition collection now.

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard Share a kaleidoscopic cut & paste video for brand new track, ‘O.N.E.’

by the partae January 29, 2021
written by the partae

“King gizzard’s new album (y’all know what it’s called) is definitely not coming out in February.” – Stu Mackenzie

.

Having finished the end of last year with a stunning animated video for the previously unreleased If Not Now, Then When?, King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard have today dropped another brand new track, O.N.E.

The track is accompanied by a kaleidoscopic cut & paste video directed by Melbourne videographer Alex McClaren. Talking about the video, Alex said:

“The song itself feels as if it’s constantly moving along so I tried to keep the visuals continually moving forward and sliding into different visual styles and landscapes. I felt the mix of stop motion and collage through the use of found imagery and the band would help compliment the tracks lyrics and themes as I interpreted them, of dreams, nightmares, climate change, dystopias, and utopias, as well as referencing events that took place during the making of the video over 2020. All video of the band was shot by Ambrose during the second lockdown restrictions and I had to give notes on shooting and direct remotely which was strange but so was everything during that period.”

Arguably the most tireless band on the planet, November saw the band release their most recent studio album, K.G. to much acclaim. On the same day in November they also released a live album, Live In San Francisco ’16 and companion live concert film and earlier in the year Live In Asheville ’19 and Demos Vol.1 + Vol.2 came out via Bandcamp.

Additionally, April saw them release a live tour movie (and attendant album) Chunky Shrapnel, an up-close, unconventional and discombobulating portrait that captured the power and sheer oddness of the live Gizz experience, a tour that culminated in a sold-out headline show at London’s historic Alexandra Palace in late 2019.

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard are: Stu Mackenzie (vocals/guitar), Ambrose Kenny-Smith (harmonica/vocals/keyboards), Cook Craig (guitar/vocals), Joey Walker (guitar/vocals), Lucas Harwood (bass) and Michael Cavanagh (drums).

Album discography
: 12 Bar Bruise (2012), Eyes Like the Sky (2013), Float Along – Fill Your Lungs (2013), Oddments (2014), I’m In Your Mind Fuzz (2014), Quarters! (2015), Paper Mache Dream Balloon (2015), Nonagon Infinity (2016), Flying Microtonal Banana (2017), Murder of the Universe (2017), Sketches of Brunswick East (2017), Polygondwanaland (2017), Gumboot Soup (2017), Fishing for Fishies (2019), Infest The Rats’ Nest (2019), Chunky Shrapnel (live album) (2020), K.G. (2020).

written by the partae

Delfina’ is the much anticipated follow up to MorningMaxwell & Max Glyde’s ‘Take It In’  (Just chill); this time with vocal powerhouse Blush’ko (new dance beats, new music friday, just chill etc). A soulful, sexy summer tune perfect to kick off your night; Blush’ko’s enticing vocals compliment the infectious baseline and signature Max Glyde chords to go with the vintage MorningMaxwell stabs. This song is the beginning of a 2 song journey as a three way collective – look out for song #2 Feb 28th

Headliner Douglas Dare is an English songsmith whose third studio album Milkteeth was released in February 2020 on Erased Tapes Records. Dare’s music speaks of his own experiences of universal themes like love, loss and childhood. Perhaps most importantly, his music gives a voice and a sanctuary to anyone who’s ever felt unusual or out of place. Whether he’s singing of the pain of those in the Magdalene Laundries as on Whelm, describing coming out to his parents on Aforger, or processing his own childhood isolation on Milkteeth, Dare has a graceful honesty and an abiding clarity of vision in his simple and distinctive sound.

Penelope Trappes is a London-based, Australian-born vocalist, musician and ethereal soundscaper. She spent 2016 writing and recording what would become her first solo album, ‘Penelope One’ in a piano studio in East London. Composed of mostly percussion-less, reverb-heavy haunting atmospherics with dystopian themes, the LP was released via Optimo Music in 2017 on vinyl and as a photo book. The first single ‘Puppets’ premiered by opening the Fendi SS17 runway show. Penelope signed to Houndstooth in 2018 and released her sophomore LP ‘Penelope Two’ to critical acclaim. The minimalist, ethereal album was built around field recordings, meditations, guitars, synth drones, piano and reverb, and deals with mortality, predestination and empathy.  2019 saw the release of ‘Penelope Redeux’ consisting of reworks of songs from ‘Penelope Two’ by Cosey Fanni Tutti, Mogwai, Félicia Atkinson, Nik Colk Void and more. ‘Penelope Three’ will be out in Spring of 2021 on Houndstooth.

Jo Quail is an internationally acclaimed composer and virtuoso cellist from London, UK. Equally at home on stage solo, with bands or in collaboration with choir and orchestra she combines an eloquent mastery of her instrument with innovative looping techniques, to realise her complex, evocative music for audiences worldwide. Inspired by the visual arts as much as by fellow composers, Jo cites Barbara Hepworth and Georgia O’Keefe as key influences, alongside the diverse music of Debussy, Pärt, Tool, and Trent Reznor. As a result, she freely crosses the boundaries between genres, awakening listener emotions, and taking audiences into uncharted territory with each concert. Her exuberant, celebratory performance style has won her a fanbase in the contemporary classical world as well as among enthusiasts of post-rock, metal and electronica.

After releasing their debut album, a monstrous slab of dark experimental rock Yours Sincerely Dr. Hardcore in 2012, Wrexham’s Gallops soon announced they were no more and broke up in 2013. In 2016, almost three years to the day, they announced their return. Awakening from their nap, they have done so revitalised, rejuvenated and driven, creating an album that stretched their horizons even further and is driven by the propulsive charge of electronic music – Bronze Mystic was released a year later.

EVENT INFO

HOW DO WE PUT ON AN EVENT IN 2021?
We are extraordinarily aware of the uncertainty surrounding events scheduled for 2021 and want to make sure that Forgotten Futures takes place in one form or other. Initially we are offering both a general admission ‘in person’ ticket as well as a streamed ticket – for anyone who, for whatever reason, isn’t able to attend and experience the event in person. If it’s not safe for the ‘In Person’ element of the festival to take place in a workable form, all General Admission ticket holders will be offered at least a partial refund, and the event will become completely online, with streams of as much of the programme as practically possible, offered to the highest quality we are able.We sincerely hope we can be together in a room for Forgotten Futures, but if we can’t do that safely we will come together digitally for what will be a spectacular streamed event.

CREATING AN ACCESSIBLE EVENT
Forgotten Futures aims to be as accessible an event as we can be. Attenborough Arts Centre is fully wheelchair accessible, has accessible toilets, an Induction loop hearing system, adult changing facilities and shower, accessible parking spaces and is welcoming of assistance dogs. We encourage anyone who may have specific access requirements to contact us ahead of the event to discuss anything we can do to facilitate making their attendance at the event as easy as possible.

If you require particular assistance, you are also entitled to a free companion or carer ticket.

If attending in person is not practical, we also offer a streamed ticket, intended as a concession for those who are not able, or not comfortable, attending live music events – whether that be due to disabilities, anxiety, health or any other reason.

We also want everyone to feel safe and welcome at our events. We have a Saf(er) Spaces policy which is in place for Forgotten Futures. There will also be gender neutral bathrooms available.

In 2021 CLIKNO celebrates its 5th anniversary and presents with its 10th release a very special acoustic techno EP from Dr.Nojoke entitled “Muaco". Muaco stands for Music against Corona and deals with the clubless time we are all experiencing. When Dr.Nojoke picked up his Höfner acoustic guitar during the lockdown in spring he was looking for new inspirations. The recordings led to three brilliant poly-rhythmical tracks for a special trip far off the beaten path. Dr.Nojoke suggests his EP as much as a way for home-clubbing as well as a listening experience. We don´t even know, if it is techno or what, but as mostly all parts were created with acoustic guitar you may file it under acoustic techno or guitar techno. We think it is just great groovy music - pulsating, hypnotic, danceable, kraut-ish, freaky - that should be played everywhere.
