The Grogans are gearing up to celebrate their third studio album WHICH WAY IS OUT in full swing, with a tour kicking off across Australia and New Zealand in February 2023 including some festival appearances at Ninch Fest and Temple Sessions Festival, with all tickets on sale now!
After a busy year with their first run of international shows in New Zealand, supporting Hockey Dad on their Australian Tour, plus festival appearances at Wanderer Music Festival, Best Night Ever , NYE on the Hill, The Great Escape and Drift Festival, and a sold out international support with US band WAVES, WHICH WAY IS OUT was launched with sold out release day shows at HABA in Rye and an exhibition at Melbourne’s Record Paradise presented by Cousin Will Records commemorating all things Grogans. Alongside the tour announcement the trio are releasing a colourful claymation visual for feature track ‘LE FANGZ’, an exuberant and playful expression of the energy more familiar at The Grogans live shows.
Have you ever imagined a daisy inspired vampire creature? Meet the protagonist of feature track ‘LE FANGZ’ and the visual claymation component created by Willem Kingma. “Le Fangz tries to mellow you out and tell a story of an imaginary creature ‘le fang’ through a more lo/fi gritty ballad. This song actually accrued from this awful painting Quin did of these daisy looking vampire critters during lockdown. We were having a few beers on the grass just painting on big bits of plywood. After Quin had finished he wrote ‘le fangs’ on it as the title which ended up in our studio until it one day became the main character in a song.” The Grogans
The band approached me with the concept of creating a stop-motion music video that involved a daisy with fangs, as the song itself was based off a painting Quin had done of a flower with sharp teeth. I started making the models using plasticine and polymer clay. I opted to shoot everything as a flat lay, animating the models on top of green or blue paper which I later keyed out in the edit and replaced with my own backgrounds. After everything was edited together, I put the digital footage to a VHS tape which to me made it look like some freaky lost children’s program! – Willem Kingma
Tracks from WHICH WAY IS OUT have seen The Grogans collectively added to Spotify’s New Music Friday AU & NZ, Fresh Finds AU & NZ, Local Noise, and Indie Arrivals and music video adds Rage and MTV. Whether it’s Quin’s rhyming lyrics and captivating vocals, Angus’ irresistible guitar riffs, or Jordan’s punctuated and propelling percussion, “We’re not exactly sure Which Way Is Out but, when it comes to The Grogans, we’re definitely all in.” – Bryget Chrisfield.
Get ready to scream the lyrics at the top of your lungs of some old favourites and these new gems, as the trio transcend the borderlines between heavy, cruisy, and acoustic tracks with their fresh twist on the classic Grogans sound.

Boris Brejcha, Brennan Heart, Claptone, Headhunterz, Paul van Dyk, Scooter, Steve Aoki, Timmy Trumpet and many more – The electronic mega-festival announces the first 25 acts for 2023
A brilliant 20th anniversary of the AIRBEAT ONE Festival with 300 of the best DJs and acts is coming up from July 12 to 16, 2023. The four-day open air event at the airfield in Neustadt-Glewe in Mecklenburg-West Pomerania bears the motto “Edition Home – Germany” and will be a bombastic setting for a groundbreaking event production. The AIRBEAT ONE has long since become a global player and plays as an event worldwide at the very top. Now the makers of the festival announce the first 25 acts for next year and they already are awesome!
The “Mainstage” every year is the epochal showpiece of the AIRBEAT ONE Festival. With gigantic dimensions of up to 180 meters wide and 50 meters high, it is the absolute eye-catcher, elaborately designed with absolute attention to detail. The biggest DJs and acts on the planet play here. True to the motto “Edition Home”, however, the first blockbusters come from Germany: Boris Brejcha, Neelix, Paul van Dyk, and Scooter. However, the AIRBEAT ONE Mainstage has always been a meeting point for the top 10 from the renowned DJ Mag Top100 Ranking and so representatives from them may not be missing in the line-up so far: Steve Aoki and Timmy Trumpet!
The music at AIRBEAT ONE is as diverse as the festival itself. From EDM to Trance and Progressive – from Hardstyle, Hardcore and Gabber to Techno, Minimal, House, Psytrance and Goa. Every lover of electronic sounds will find his floor here. The Arena Stage, which was added only a few years ago, stands for techno. And here, too, German techno artists determine the happenings in the line-up so far: Anne Clue, Claptone and SKIY. From Italy Deborah de Luca joins and from Switzerland the Deep House Queen Nora En Pure.
So far, the colors black, red and gold have been shining almost exclusively above the Terminal Stage. HBz, Lexy & K-Paul, VIZE and YouNotUs. With Klangkarussell a producer duo from Austria comes to Neustadt-Glewe.
The line-up on the Hardstyle stage is looking absolutely international so far. Some of the big icons of the scene have already announced themselves: Brennan Heart, Headhunterz, Noisecontrollers, Sickmode and Wildstylez.
Last but not least, the first artists for the Second Stage are ready. With Captain Hook, Fabio Fusco, Hatikwa, Mandragora and Vegas, illustrious names from the Goa and Psytrance scene will join the November line-up.
AIRBEAT ONE 2023 will be a festival of superlatives. 300 artists from around the world come to congratulate one of the largest electronic music festivals in Europe. On the guest list will be more than 65,000 visitors per day from over 50 nations. This anniversary should not be missed by anyone. Tickets? They are available already. The 3-day ticket costs 149.99 euros in pre-sale phase 1. For 100.00 euros more, you can be a VIP guest at the birthday (249.99 euros). All information on tickets.airbeat-one.de.

Smirnoff Seltzer is taking Australia’s biggest musicians back to the venues that gave them their start, supported by the country’s most hotly-tipped talent. In a series of one-night-only intimate gigs hosted around the eastern seaboard, the events – Smirnoff Origins – will pay homage to the crucial role that live music plays in helping emerging talent cut their teeth, build their fanbase and become fully fledged stars.
Headlined by some of Australia’s biggest acts, the gigs will be anything but ordinary, taking over small live music venues to provide a stage set for exciting new artists that have been specially picked by the headliner to open the show.
The Presets are first to take the stage, returning to Sydney’s iconic nightclub, Club 77 on Thursday February 2, 2023. Club 77 played a vital role in the band’s early years, as the venue where they honed their skills as performers, generated fans and even made reference mixes for their debut album Beams (released in 2005), coming up in the golden age of electronic music in Sydney’s once-pulsating Kings Cross. Returning 17 years later, The Presets will host Smirnoff Origins’ first show with additional artists and venues to be announced.
The Presets are also tasked with finding Smirnoff’s hottest opening act, hand-picking an emerging artist to open their show. The chosen artist will also receive a $5,000 performance fee, double gold tickets to Splendour in the Grass 2023 (valued at $1,200), their very own feature in Rolling Stone magazine (valued at $20,000), and Smirnoff Advertising support worth $30,000, giving them a platform to be discovered.
The Presets Julian Hamilton says, “We’re thrilled to head back to Club 77 to play at Smirnoff Origins, a venue that was so special to us coming up in Sydney music. Live music venues like this play such an important role in supporting up-and-coming musicians and we’re on the lookout for an emerging artist to open our Smirnoff Origins show so we can pay it forward and create an opportunity for the next generation of artists.”
Lockdowns were particularly hard on Australia’s live-music industry, causing the closure of several iconic music venues in the wake of two years of restrictions. Without a stage on which to perform, many emerging artists struggled to hone their skills, find fans and make a living. Venues are only now returning to life, but they continue to need support to be able to offer opportunities to the next generation of musicians.
Club 77 owner Dane Gorrel says, “Live music venues feed an entire ecosystem for our late-night economy, across musicians, hospitality staff, restaurants, and travel. It’s about being part of a community that contributes and creates culture. We’re thrilled to host the first Smirnoff Origins and to be able to use the event series to shine a light on the live-music scene that makes Australian music so special and creates so many opportunities for the next generation of musicians to be discovered.”
Smirnoff Origins has been launched in celebration of Smirnoff Seltzer’s new Cocktail range – Spicy Margarita and Watermelon Margarita, both refreshing tasting drinks for summer days, and lively nights. As the brand that music lovers reach for during summer festivals and when enjoying live music with friends, Smirnoff wanted to find a way to use their platform to give back to their mates in the music sector.
Smirnoff Seltzer Marketing Manager Maddy Stockwell says, “Smirnoff is synonymous with music and the memories we create while enjoying live music with friends at festivals and gigs and discovering new sounds. These venues are such a big part of Smirnoff’s DNA, so we wanted to celebrate the launch of our new Smirnoff Seltzer cocktail range by paying homage to the industry that has supported some of our biggest talent by taking them back to their roots and creating an opportunity for an emerging artist to follow in their footsteps.”
Smirnoff Origins shows will pop-up all along the Eastern Seaboard, with the next show to be announced in Brisbane in January 2023.
To be selected to open for The Presets at Smirnoff Origins at Club 77, emerging artists must send a direct message to Smirnoff Australia’s Instagram with a link to their song on Spotify, Soundcloud or YouTube. Smirnoff Origins submissions close on Monday 19 December, 2022 at 09:00 AEDT. The winner will be notified by Instagram direct message on Monday 19 December before being announced publicly on the Smirnoff Australia Instagram on Friday 13 January, 2023. Entries are open to Australians 25+, terms and conditions apply see here.
Smirnoff Seltzer’s latest product drop is the newest innovation in the brand’s Seltzer range. Coming hot on the heels after record demand for margaritas – both at home and in bars and clubs – Smirnoff’s Seltzer Cocktail range delivers a taste of the much-loved cocktail, boasting just 107 calories per can. Packed with more flavour than a regular seltzer, Smirnoff Seltzer’s Spicy Margarita is fashioned in the Tommy’s Margarita style featuring Smirnoff vodka, zesty lime juice and tequila flavour, balanced with sweetness and a hint of chilli, topped with sparkling water. Smirnoff Seltzer’s Watermelon Margarita offers a fruity twist with a perfectly blended mix of Smirnoff vodka, sweet ripe watermelon and subtle notes of zesty lime and tequila flavour, topped with sparkling water. Unexpectedly bolder in flavour with a clean finish, the two new feisty flavours are low in sugar with just 2.5g per 250ml, 7% ABV and 1.4 standard drinks.
Smirnoff Seltzer Cocktails 250ml slim-can four-pack retails for $25.99. Smirnoff Seltzer Cocktails Spicy Margarita and Watermelon Margarita flavours are now available in Dan Murphy’s, BWS and independent retailers.

Over 32,000 fans descended upon Flemington Racecourse to partake in a stellar international and local lineup of rock, metal, and punk (and all things in between) bands.
Ukrainian metalcore band Jinjer kicked off on the main stage at the start of the day. They didn’t disappoint fans, delivering a high energy with lead singer Tatiana’s impressive vocal ability switching from melodic precision to deep screaming growl.
Locals Thornhill have created a huge local fanbase, punters turned up in droves to see the dynamic set from the metal 4 piece.
There was lineup of bands covered most heavy music genres. Swedish punk band Millencollin deliver a tight set that encouraged plenty of crowd surfing and moshing. Sabaton also from Sweden played their battle-themed heavy metal complete with machine gun microphone stands and fire. Locals Amity Affliction also delivered some fire during their
intense set.
Electric Callboy was a crowd favourite, with fans adorning wigs and coloured tracksuits like the band as they performed their eclectic mix of electric, pop, and metalcore music with comedic slant.
It was great to see one of my personal favorite Japanese rock bands, One Okay Rock deliver a short 45 minute high energy set on the main stage. Also from Japan. metalcore Paledusk floored punters with their super high energy performance, with guitarist Daisuke doing 360 degree high flying kick whilst playing.
Gojira delivered a super tight performance with intense energy, the blasts of C02 almost symbolic of them letting off steam. Metal veterans Soulfly also showcased their Brazilian metal style, with fans lapping it up.
A pleasant surprise was seeing death pop Norwegian band Blood Command, fronted by Aussie singer Nikki Brumen. A super high energy set and the band seemed to love every moment performing.
Many punters were here to see the legendary Deftones perform opening with “Genesis” and also including their classics “My Own Summer” and “Be Quiet and Drive” as the sun began to set.
UK modern rockers Bring Me the Horizon headlined the festival, starting with explosive magenta confetti bomb as they launched into “Can You Feel My Heart”. The lighting, screen and stage visuals were absolutely stunning, and reflected the theme for each song. BMTH fans got everything they wanted.

Kaliopi is a Melbourne-based Greek-Australian Blues Artist, guitarist, and singer-songwriter who draws on the great blues tradition and the powerful blues women who made it their own.
Kaliopi and her band – the Blues Messengers – will soon launch the first single When the Levee Breaks and the video clip from their new studio album; and will be performing the album live at the launch. This will happen next Saturday December 10th from 3:00pm at the George Lane venue, which is at 1 George Lane, St Kilda.
The recent Lismore floods inspired her to release ‘When the Levee Breaks’ as the first single from the new album. When the Levee Breaks is a country blues song written and first recorded by Memphis Minnie in 1929. The lyrics reflect experiences during the upheaval caused by the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927. Led Zeppelin re-worked the song on the 70’s.
“I’ve always been a passionate advocate for the underdog, marginalised peoples, women’s rights and so-called obligatory roles; so mixing that with issues of subordination, slavery and displacement resonates with gut wrenching feelings, ignites improvisation and hollering that’s healing in the blues…” Kaliopi says. The lyrics of these traditional tunes draw on timeless metaphors that resonate to this day – such as climate change. Specifically, within the Memphis Minnie repertoire Kaliopi’s band have recorded, includes themes around domestic violence, substance abuse, systemic corruption, prostitution, discrimination, and subordination.

You’re currently visiting from LA, how has your trip back been so far?
This trip to Australia is like ALL my trips to Australia… GREAT! I love it here and have been coming here since 1988. I love my friends, the city, the food, the fun and of course the banana bread.
How did you originally get into photography?
That’s a long story, but here’s the short version… I saw the movie Funny Face when I was 10 years old. I loved Audrey Hepburn and Fred Astaire. I saw him playing a photographer and I said I want to do that for the rest of my life! I fell in love with photography after I shot my first roil at 10 and started my business at 12. Photography has given me the best life ever and I can prove it… I got the photos!
You’re launching your Greatest Hits exhibition next week at Room 205, 205 Oxford Street, Darlinghurst, Sydney December 7 – 11, 2022 – what can we expect to see?
This is gonna be super fun. This is my 3rd exhibition here in Sydney!!! The first one was Greatest Hits: George Michael in 2018. In 2019 I did Greatest Hits: Grunge and Greatest Hits: Michael Hutchence. I love Australia and sharing my two biggest passions… music and photography. This exhibition is ALL about 30+ years of Music Photography… it’s the best of my best covering ALL genres of music. I want people to see that I’ve done it all and more. Behind the Gallery and I have come up with some fun and entertaining events for the 5 days. It’s more than an exhibition, it’s ALL about celebrating!
How and why did the Greatest Hits exhibition come about?
It’s been 3 years since I was in Sydney cuz of life and the world. I wanted to get back ASAP and have some fun. I felt it was the right time to share my “Best Of’s”! I talked to my friends, asked for some help and started moving forward back in August to make Greatest Hits happen.
The exhibition is running over a few days, which music artists are performing and when are they playing?
The schedule is great! The basics…
SCHEDULE:
December 7th, Wednesday – Opening Night from 7-10pm
December 8th, Thursday – MMAD Performance night with Ella Powell and D Minor from 7pm to 8pm.
December 9th, Friday – Photo Talk hosted by photographer Peter Collie from 7pm to 9pm.
December 10th, Saturday – Artist Talk hosted by Michelle Grace Hunder & performance with Sam Baker from 1pm to 4pm.
December 11th, Sunday – Closing day. 12pm to 3pm
You worked with the late/great Michael Hutchence, what was that experience like?
I get asked this a lot in Australia. Simply put… GREAT! He was the best of the best. We had a blast shooting the first time in 1988 and the second in 1993. He was ALL that and more. He made me look good.
Who are you listening to at the moment?
My favs these days are Lauren Ruth Ward, The Struts, Sam Baker, Siiickbrain, Grandson, Isabella Amarga and ALL my old High School music… which is 70’s R&B & funk!
What do you like to do away from photography?
Rest and sleep. I’m a workaholic. I’m blessed to do what I love and love what I do. I’m not getting any younger and I have so much more that I need to do. Creating is everything to me, not matter what the medium is. Go big or go home!
What’s planned for 2023 and beyond?
Well, after Australia I leave for New Zealand and I’m having Greatest Hits in Auckland this February!!! My first time ever in NZ and I’m SO excited. I can NOT wait to share my passion with New Zealand.
Favourite food and place to hangout in Sydney?
This is tough!!! First and foremost… Banana Bread at Gusto! I always stay in Bondi Beach when I’m here. It’s my home away from home. The people, the food, the energy and course the beach!!! I wish I lived here cuz I probably would live 10 years longer. 🙂

1 What’s it like as an established muso with his own distinctive style to pair up with an artist who likewise has his own profile and following?
Live music events can fill you with inspiration in all sorts of ways. If you’re a musician witnessing a great performance it pushes you to want to emulate the playing style, or to write music as good as what you’re hearing in that moment. For me I also get to feeling like I want to get in amongst it and be in that band, or to trade licks with that great player. Jimi is one of those players. He pushes me, kicks my arse to play the best I can.
2 Is it possible to preserve your own artistic identity and flavour when playing with and alongside your `opposite number?’ Can we expect you to shed some of your unique recent experiences (Kings of Kings) in your solo set prior to the all-in jam?
One of the things you learn along the way is to always play it your way. This may be especially true when it comes to playing the blues. The whole aim is finding your own voice so there is never any point in trying to outplay another performer at their game. Yeah, I recently had the chance to share the stage with the great Dave Hole & Shane Pacey playing some classic blues songs. I had Dave Hole standing right next to me every night and I can tell you, those gigs were some of the best guitar lessons I’ve ever had… but whenever it comes my turn to play, I dig deep and do my thing the best I know how.
3 I’m guessing some friendly rivalry would play out as well in that shared space? Particularly with you both leading the jam. How do you expect to manage and lead Kaliopi & the Blues Messengers during the jam?
Jimi & I enjoy the bitchy banter we get into. It’s even funnier to us if anyone thinks we’re serious. It started when we were playing some of our first gigs together and you’d occasionally overhear comments along the lines of ‘Jimi’s gonna wipe the floor with him tonight’ or some such thing. We decided it was actually more fun to play up to that idea of us competing for some sort of guitarist supremacy and we started calling those gigs our ‘Guitar Showdown’. The music is always our focus – but be prepared for a battle of wits between songs. Oh, and the jam set? The best thing about those moments is that they are very loosely planned, if planned at all. I am careful not to think too hard about what might happen then lest we spoil the magic!
4 You’ve been paired with each other before – how might your upcoming gig for Double Trouble Blues Sessions be different or similar? What can your followers expect or is it always a case of `expect the unexpected’?
This is a different format to our Showdown gigs. The difference is that we’ll each to showcasing our solo material which highlights our individual styles. The similarity is that we’ll end up on stage together with a cracking band backing us up and trading licks on electric guitars. Add Kaliopi to the mix and suddenly we shall have a triple guitar threat… but of course only one can reign supreme. Who shall it be? Whom shalt doff this coveted crown?
