Australian indie-electronic duo BOO SEEKA, make their triumphant return with ‘Take A Look’, their first release via Daily Nightly Records and under new management with Untitled Group.

‘Take A Look’ is the long anticipated lead from the duo’s forthcoming sophomore album. The powerful track combines ethereal vocals, smooth synths and a distinct energy to create a sound that is uniquely BOO SEEKA. The duo have been busy in the studio working on album #2 with producer Matt Bartlem (previously worked with Matt Corby, Lastlings, Jarryd James) & a new live show that they’re excited to share with the world in 2020.

“Take A Look was a simple message to ourselves that we should have listened to a long time ago, and with it we’re excited to turn an inspiring new leaf,” says BOO SEEKA.

Since releasing their collaborative single in late 2019, Diplo & SIDEPIECE’s ‘On My Mind’ has been on a steady ascent of global charts. Amassing over 25 million combined streams since its release and so far, the track has received an off-the-wall music video as well as a remix from nu-disco legend Purple Disco Machine. Next up, prolific producers MK and Billy Kenny each lend their hand on reimagining the track in two official remixes.

MK has been a staple of house music since the late 1980s, establishing himself as a legend in the genre. With over 500 titles to his name, many of which have become certified platinum, MK has hundreds of millions of cumulative online streams. Following on from his recent announcement and continuing to tease his new body of work, the ‘purveyor of feelgood dance’ Tensnake now releases his next pop and synth infused single  ‘Somebody Else’ on True Romance & Armada Electronic Elements.  

It was Tensnake’s big reveal at the beginning of the year, a new forthcoming album entitled L.A. Now he cements the release with the second single ‘Somebody Else’, again showcasing his wide-ranging production abilities and further building in the influence he has received from recently living in the city of angels. It’s a track full of pop synths, sublime vocals and electric baselines. Destined for leading playlists across streaming and radio networks alike, featuring British, songwriter and vocalist Boy Matthews, who provides a fresh dimension and emotion to the track.

““Somebody Else” is probably my favourite song on the album. When Boy Matthews and I met in Los Angeles we instantly got along and the songwriting came very naturally together. I’d say it is also the song which reminds me the most of my time in Los Angeles; this city has such a nostalgic feel and I tried to capture that vibe in this song. Already with a strong reputation as an accomplished artist who treads the fine line, retaining underground kudos whilst simultaneously releasing crossover hits, Tensnake has cemented his status as a respected music producer with a proven track record. Sam Feldt keeps party going with his Sunday Sessions Dutch DJ decided to stay in contact with his fans by playing an exclusive set every Sunday

Sam Feldt has been providing a great service to his fans during these socially-distanced times thanks to his weekly Sunday Sessions live stream. These spontaneous DJ streams are broadcast simultaneously on Facebook, Twitch, YouTube, Twitter and Instagram and see the Dutch DJ explore a different style to his IRL DJ sets.

“I started hosting the Sunday Sessions as a creative outlet for myself” he explains. “Because I can’t play real live shows right now, I miss the art of mixing and experimenting behind the decks a lot. None of these sets are pre-planned and they rarely contain my own music, forcing me to be extra creative and constantly be on the lookout for the perfect next tune to play.” They are of a fluid length, from 30 minutes up to several hours, depending on his mood, and feature trippy visuals on a green screen behind Sam. He’s also building some professional decor for future streams.

His Sunday Sessions focus on melodic house and techno, with forays into the more hypnotic end of those sounds. “This is the music I love vibing out to on Sundays myself and doing these weekly streams gives me the ideal opportunity to share my personal favorites with the world. While they are nothing like the real live DJing experience, it offers me a way to connect with my fans virtually while breaking through genres and going out of my comfort zone playing records I don’t usually get to play.” 

Sam has also been playing his own music during live streams at remarkable locations — including SLAM!’s broadcast from the top of the Euromast in Rotterdam, and for Spinnin’ Sessions (live and direct from his own kitchen!).

Aussie brothers, Travalley have today dropped their seriously fun, raucous new single, Dear Babe.  The track is accompanied by a fittingly bonkers video that sees the duo, Levi and Sam Mellington, munch through as many chillies as possible throughout the duration of the clip, and they’ll be celebrating the release with a livestream single launch on Saturday May 23 at 7pm on Instagram.   Upbeat and hooky as all getout, this driving indie rock track will be lapped up by fans of Lime Cordiale, The Jungle Giants, Hockey Dad and Skegss, and will have listeners toe-tapping, singing along with the insanely catchy backing vocals and coming back for more.  Recorded in a Melbourne home studio, engineered by Fabian Hunter and mixed and mastered by Austin Asvanonda (The War on Drugs), Dear Babe is about lead singer Levi’s lack of ability to be able to flirt or express how he feels. “I always manage to say the wrong thing or give too much away too early which tends to end up in the “what if I said this” situation happening over and over again and then repeating the process with the same results,” Levi explains.“About a year ago, I finally stuck to my guns and held back from blurting out everything about myself to a girl, I was so impressed with myself that I decided to write a song about all my past experiences, and now here we are! We just hope people really enjoy the song and get a laugh out of the film clip.”   Filmed and edited by Gareth Harrison (DJ for Yacht Club DJs who also tours regularly with DZ Deathrays and Dune Rats), the concept for the Dear Babe video was inspired by the DZ Deathrays The mess Up film clip where the guys drank as much alcohol over the duration of the song.  An extrapolation of this was then released by Dune Rats in Red Light Green Light where they smoked as much as they could.  Pretty chuffed with their ingeniousness with this video concept that is sure to set tongues wagging, and rightfully so, Levi explains, “We decided to continue the trend that these two amazing bands created, and stupidly ate as many chillies as we could within the time of the film clip. Little did we know that we ate far more than expected and experienced all sorts of pains for days after the video was filmed!”   Having spent a lifetime together, and the greatest part of it playing music together, the visceral bond present in their playing and their vocal harmonies is obvious, and their onstage banter is infectious.  And though the brothers have been combatting a heap of change during the Covid19 madness, they’re also able to see the positives. “We’ve had a lot more time to write new music and expand our sound, and we’ve had to come up with more creative ways to keep our fans engaged, but it’s also given us the opportunity to sit back and relax for the first time in a long time,” says Levi. “But like many other bands out there, we had to cancel our entire tour and a bunch of bookings too. The biggest thing we’ve missed is playing live to our amazing fans that travel to come see us play. Following a sold-out debut Australian tour in March, which included standout performances at  Golden Plains, WOMADadelaide & more, Nottingham-based duo Sleaford Mods have shared a previously unreleased track, ‘Second’ and accompanying video as premiered via Rolling Stone. ‘Second’ is from the band’s upcoming retrospective, All That Glue, out Friday 15 May via Rough Trade / Remote Control Records. The video was directed by Robin Lee and features Kate Dickie (Game of Thrones) and Emma Stansfield (Skins, The Tudors). WATCH HERE.

As described by Rolling Stone “In the Robin Lee-directed clip, two actresses (Kate Dickie and Emma Stansfield) portray Jason Williamson and Andrew Fearn in the Mods’ early days when they frequently played pubs. The women are pitch-perfect, down to Williamson’s Fred Perry polo shirt and Fearn’s omnipresent beer. The electronic duo is known for their unorthodox stage setup — Fearn turns on the beats and shuffles in place while Williamson loses it. The actresses do just that in the video, which ends with the pair giving the real Mods the proverbial finger.”

Just in time for Mother’s Day, Episode Two of The State of Music – the weekly live-streamed series created by Mushroom Group, in partnership with the Victorian Government’s Victoria Together initiative – will celebrate Australia’s amazing female talent.

Each week on The State of Music you’ll catch exclusive artist interviews and stunning pre-recorded performances, curated and professionally filmed by the Mushroom team, with the show then live-streamed direct to your couch. Catch Episode Two this Saturday 9 May at 6.30pm AEST, on the Victoria Together website, YouTube and Facebook.

In celebration of Mother’s Day, we’ve gathered a stellar all-female line-up this week that’s not to be missed. ‘Tennis (I Feel OK)’, opening with fuzzy organs and snappy drums, is an ode to Garvin’s favourite sport.
Courtney explains, “Kinda goofy, but in all honesty my relationship with tennis is so meaningful to me on a spiritual level. It’s my meditation practice. The game makes you present, you’re repeating movements, and finding a rhythm. And it’s so creative. I think all athletes are artists. Plus you get to be outside, getting exercise, hanging with friends and all of those things are so good for you. So the song is pretty much about how tennis just makes my life better. I love tennis. If anyone reading this wants to play (after the pandemic) please hit me up.” 

Gum Country are an indie rock band brought to you by vocalist, guitarist and songwriter Courtney Garvin (The Courtneys – Flying Nun) and multi-instrumentalist Connor Mayer. Their self-described “harsh twee” project began back in Vancouver as a series of lo-fi four track recordings made in an apartment, very quietly. After relocating to Los Angeles where they currently reside, the pair recorded their debut full-length album ‘Somewhere’ with Joo-Joo Ashworth at Studio 22, this time at full volume.

Drawing on groups like Stereolab, The Replacements, The Breeders, Beat Happening, Yo La Tengo, Meat Puppets and The Magnetic Fields, Gum Country envelope and transform these influences in the warm embrace of Garvin’s fuzzy open-tuned guitar tone. Mayer’s driving drums and melodic keyboard accompaniments provide a backdrop for these rich textures, casually blending digital and analogue to produce a sound that would feel right at home on NME’s C-86 compilation.

The songs on ‘Somewhere’ meander through the highs and lows of daily life, touching on subjects ranging from love, loss, and anxiety, to tennis, video games, and gardening. Garvin navigates these topics with humor and sincerity, her unassuming delivery riding amidst the swirling instrumentals like a snowboarder shredding fresh pow.

Today, Juan Wauters announces his digital EP, Más Canciones de la Onda, out June 3 via Captured Tracks / Remote Control Records. With the announcement he shares the first single ‘Muy Muy Chico.’ Wauters says, “the only time I left the cities where I was during the trip when I recorded La Onda de Juan Pablo was in Chile. I travelled to the south of Chile to visit a friend’s friend. There in Pucón, in the Andes mountain range, I wrote and recorded ‘Muy Muy Chico.’ This was the only song I did on the trip just by myself. It does not include anyone else playing anything. It’s just me and the guitar. The song was meant that way. It talks about how sometimes a person would obsess over someone else’s height and sees themselves smaller not realizing that everyone’s height is different. It’s really a criticism about the way the system we live under is designed to pile us against each other and not reward us independently for our own virtues.” Listen here.

Más Canciones de la Onda is comprised of five unreleased songs, recorded by Wauters as he was traveling South American to write the critically acclaimed La Onda de Juan Pablo. “These songs are not B-sides or outtakes. These are songs I really like. The only reason they didn’t make it on the album is because I thought the other ones flowed better together as a whole. In fact, some of these unreleased tracks are among my favorite ones from that time in my life,” Wauters explains.

On this EP, Wauters presents songs recorded in Argentina, Uruguay, Mexico and Chile, each with their own themes, and his journey ends right back where he started – at home, making music with friends. His immigrant’s side. His sense of belonging. His social life and his use of language. His need to work. And the even stronger need that his work doesn’t become monotonous. They are the same person: one among the whole crowd. He is here to share his songs, his field recordings, his videos and his live performances. Everything comes from the same creative head. Everything springs up with the same intention – not intentional at all – to express himself freely.

Melbourne-based band Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever release new track & video, ‘Falling Thunder’ from their highly-anticipated second album, Sideways to New Italy, out Friday 5 June on Ivy League Records.

Following the album’s widely-lauded first two singles ‘She’s There’ (premiered by Annie Mac on BBC Radio 1) and ‘Cars In Space’ (track of the day on KEXP), melodic earworm ‘Falling Thunder’ continues to find Rolling Blackouts C.F. at the peak of their powers: a swirling, mesmeric pop song that perfectly evokes the timeless nature of Sideways To New Italy – a record that’s universal yet threaded through with personal histories, born of dislocation but with a distinct geographic identity. Tom Russo explains it’s “about pushing on through the relentless march of time, against the constant cycle of seasons. And the way people change and relationships change. It’s set in that time when autumn is turning into winter and the trees are getting bare.”

The accompanying video (premiered overnight via The Fader) was shot by a friend of the band, Jamieson Moore, and is comprised of vacation footage from Sicily, Sardinia and the Aeolian Islands, the ancestral homeland of the Russo Brothers. As Tom elaborates: “Our friend Jamieson Moore shot the footage of Sicily, Sardinia and the Aeolian Islands on her phone while on vacation last year. The Aeolian Islands is also where my and Joe Russo’s ancestors are from. We were also planning to shoot the band playing in Eolian Hall in Melbourne (it’s a community hall founded by Aeolian immigrants). We got some practice footage but by the time it came to shoot the band, we were on lockdown. So it’s turned out as a kind of a love letter to a particular place.”

The eponymous New Italy is a village near New South Wales’s Northern Rivers – the area Tussie is from. A blink-and-you’ll-miss-it pit-stop of a place with fewer than 200 residents, it was founded by Venetian immigrants in the late-1800s and now serves as something of a living monument to Italians’ contribution to Australia, with replica Roman statues dotted like souvenirs on the otherwise rural landscape. The parallel between these remnants of home and the band’s own attempts to maintain connections and create familiarity during their disorienting time on the road were not lost on Russo. “These are the expressions of people trying to find home somewhere alien; trying to create utopia in a turbulent and imperfect world.”

In addition to the specific town, the songs on the record exist variably in Darwin (‘Cameo’), Melbourne (‘Beautiful Steven’), Los Angeles (‘The Cool Change’), the tiny town of Rushworth (‘Not Tonight’) and the driver’s seat of a car at a drive-in movie (‘Cars in Space’). Rolling Blackouts C.F are well-versed in a detailed and cinematic style of songwriting, where landscapes, interactions and memories materialise as characters and stories that reflect the tight, swirling guitars that emote alongside the trio’s voices.

Where are you currently based? I am currently based out in Boronia in VIC. I’m sure you haven’t heard of it, for some reason no one knows where it is, haha. For a little context, I’m near Mount Dandenong and I am lucky enough to live with my Mama. How did you first start playing music? Honestly for as long as I can remember I’ve been singing, even as a child I would sing all the time. I guess I really started learning music properly when I started high school - I had singing lessons and trumpet lessons, I was that kid that was in alllll the school bands (so lame I know). But it really gave me so much confidence, I was that scared shy little kid when I started, but by the end of high school I was the crazy confident one. Your new single 'Do You Wanna' is out now, what influenced the sound and songwriting? Ok, I love how this song came about, do I have a story for you. I started writing 'Do You Wanna' when I was taking a shower. I was listening to Jill Scott, when this melody just came into my head. I ran out to my piano butt naked for all the world to see, still dripping with water and wrote the song there and then. The song is about asking for consent from your partner, in the sexiest way you can. It's like a whisper in your ear that worms it's way into your head and stays there until you only have question left to answer, 'Do You Wanna'? I have to say that at the time it was Jill Scott, D’Angelo and Erykah Badu that influenced this whole track for sure. At the time I was completely obssed with their first albums, lets be honest I still am. So I wanted to create something that gave me that 90’s neo-soul vibe. Where and when did you record, and who with? How did you approach the recording/production and who did you work with? Oh man I have recorded this song in 3 separate places and over the last 2 years, because life haha. I started off with Julian Steel, who laid down the groove and most of the rhythm section as his home studio, then I went to Michael Cooper and we refined the track and added a lot of the extra sounds and synth deliciousness in the background, and finally I recorded all the vocals with my first producer Rino in his bedroom. Shout out to Bailey Judd for the second guitar part and Jordan Pereira for drums! Julian, Michael and Rino are some of Melbourne’s best young soul producers. When I was approaching this track I took inspiration from ‘cruisin’, the D’Angelo version that is, as well as a bit of Prince’s ‘Kiss’. Who are you listening to at the moment? I am fully obsessed with India.Arie, Pj Morton, Jamiroquai and Billie Eilish right now. I love old an school groove, soul, R&B and disco/funk music and its most of what I listen to during the day! There’s just so much life to it, and then there’s Billie haha, she's there when I am feeling down which I can say is happening a lot these days with Isolation in play. Which artists influences your music? That’s a big question, isn’t it. I think if I had to say one person, it would be Stevie Wonder. I truly think what he creates with is music is next level. He’s so smart in his song writing, and then the control of his voice is just next level you know. Outside of that I think as well, D’Angelo, Jill Scott, Jamiroquai and Motown as a genre as well. There was a time when all I would listen to was Motown artists. What do you like to do away from music? I love to exercise; yoga, gym, walking and hiking. Guyana is a really poor country, a developing nation, so we didn’t have a lot of stuff - like on TV at the end of the day they used to broadcast about the deaths, births and marriages for that day, which is wild to me to think about now. At Christmas we always have pepper pot, which is this black stew that you cook for two weeks to mak,e and Garlic pork which you pickle in a mix of brine, vinegar, thyme, rosemary, chilli and garlic and then shallow fry in oil. It’s delicious and also takes about a month to make. I’ve lost my Caribbean accent which is really sad (mum still has hers and my friends love it), but I have a weird Aussie/American accent now that people seem to really like. I don’t know if I really answered your question, but I could go on for hours about home so I might just leave it there haha. Please describe your experience as a queer artist in Melbourne, Australia: I feel very isolated with that right now, I haven’t found my people yet. I know some queer artists but I have yet to really find where I belong in that space. Where are you currently based?
