This Is Lorelei has released ‘The Kid With The Crown’, the final single from the forthcoming album The Singer in My Band, which is due for release on September 11 via Matador Records and Remote Control Records.
The single is accompanied by an official video directed by Spencer Kelly. The video follows a group of children as they support a demolition derby racer known as The Kid With The Crown.
Nate Amos, the musician behind This Is Lorelei, describes the track as the opposite of the previously released ‘Oh No Now My’. Speaking about the song, Amos said it “was plucked and preserved at an early age” and that the album “needed an untied shoelace”.
‘The Kid With The Crown’ is the ninth track on The Singer in My Band, an 11-song album. The track runs for 4 minutes and 14 seconds.
The album was written while Amos was touring in support of releases from both This Is Lorelei and Water From Your Eyes. Amos describes it as his first true “road record”, explaining that ideas developed while travelling without access to instruments.
According to the release, the album’s songs feature characters including Billy, Joey, Genevieve, Sarah and Buddy, with stories set against American scenes and landmarks. Amos describes the material as “little works of fiction with elements of truth to them”.
The Singer in My Band is the first This Is Lorelei album for Matador Records. Amos engineered, produced and performed the majority of the album, with contributions from his father Bob Amos on banjo, as well as vocals from his sister Sarah Amos and partner Al Nardo.
The album follows 2024’s Box for Buddy, Box for Star, which the label describes as Amos’ first intentionally written full-length solo album. That record later received a deluxe edition featuring covers and collaborations including MJ Lenderman, Hayley Williams, Jeff Tweedy and Cameron Winter.
The Singer in My Band will be released on September 11, with ‘The Kid With The Crown’ available now.
