Australia’s most revered, trailblazing punk underdogs, These New South Whales, today announce their forthcoming comedy series TNSW Tonight!, and share their latest single, ‘Broken System‘ which premiered on triple j overnight. Watch the trailer HERE and listen to ‘Broken System‘ HERE.

The first single previewed off the group’s forthcoming third studio record, due for release in 2021, ‘Broken System’ is a searing anthem that takes aim at those who are unwilling to acknowledge their own complicity or work to dismantle systems and legacies of white supremacy, colonialism, capitalism, environmental degradation and more that have led the world to where it is now. Over a driving bass line, blistering guitars and vocals that oscillate from smearing and indignant to cavernous and portentous, ‘Broken System’ is a sub-three minute distillation of These New South Whales’ career to date, marrying the uncompromising punk ethics of their earliest material with the infectious accessibility of their recent output.

‘Broken System’ is the group’s first piece of new material since the release of their second LP, 2019’s I Just Do What God Tells Me To Do, which won the Sydney punks international praise from theneedledrop, triple j, The Line of Best Fit, Kerrang!, Mojo Magazine and more, while also showcasing the band’s rapidly maturing songwriting and a more sunnied, poppier exterior to their punk hearts.

Launching alongside the release of ‘Broken System’ is news of their upcoming comedy series which will broadcast live to air on YouTube. Following the cult success of their Comedy Central mockumentary, These New South Whales are back with an entirely new comedy series – TNSW Tonight! Think Eric Andre meets Tim Heidecker’s On Cinema. Playing parodied versions of themselves, the band members somehow land their own talk show, complete with house band (These New South Whales) and frontman Jamie Timony as host. Channeling their years of showbiz experience and industry acumen, the band will attempt to chew the fat and match their minds with some of our time’s most influential celebrities and rockstars, but in true TNSW fashion, are likely to completely blow it.

Of their latest series, Timony shares: “We can’t wait to thrust ourselves into this iconic television format. I’ve always admired Rove McManus and now I get to be him. I hope your wig has a chin strap, because your haircut’s coming off!” TNSW Tonight! will air live to Youtube weekly on Tuesdays at 9pm, the first episode debuts on October 27.

Following two full-length studio albums, two seasons of their mockumentary series and the success of their hilarious but earnest, fly-on-the-wall interview podcast What A Great Punk, TNSW Tonight! will add yet another branch to the multidisciplinary These New South Whales creative universe, the likes of which Australian music has never seen before.

Perth indie-folk group JACK DAVIES and THE BUSH CHOOKS release new EP SONGS FOR A LONG WALK

written by the partae

Releasing some of their most personal material yet, Perth’s Jack Davies and The Bush Chooks release their new EP, Songs For A Long Walk.

A collection of moving and authentic indie-folk music, Songs For A Long Walk shines a light on the group’s defined musical identity, led by songwriter Jack Davies’ unwavering strength as a vocalist and songwriter.

Six tracks recorded at the beginning of 2020, Songs For A Long Walk were created before the world was plunged into a prolonged stage of limbo, yet when listening to the songs now in the midst of it, the comfort and warmth they exude are second to none.

From it listeners have already heard ‘Loving You’s Like A Mouldy  Cup of Tea’ and ‘Half Frozen Beer’, both strong compositions on their own, yet Songs For A Long Walk shines across the other four tracks too. Evoking the likes of Jacob Diamond, Courtney Barnett and Tom Odell in songwriting and nuanced delivery, the Songs For A Long Walk EP is inviting and intimate in the soundscapes it creates.

This is a record that shows Jack Davies and The Bush Chooks at their best, and for newcomers to the group, Songs For A Long Walk is the perfect wait to become acquainted with them.

Recorded at RADA Studios in Perth, the band were able to properly immerse themselves in the old warehouse set up, with the addition of some beautiful upright pianos that helped form the final sound of the EP. For Jack, the experience has inspired him for future recordings.

“We were able to just have fun with all these incredible instruments and microphones and record whatever we liked. Dan Carroll, who engineered and mixed the EP, has such a huge insight into recording and music in general. Working together changed my perspective on a lot of things in the recording world, I’m grateful for that. The whole process has given me so much inspiration to dig right into the next record and explore all these new ideas fully.” Jack Davies

The closeness of the band and their natural ability as players together shines throughout the EP, as it does on single ‘Half Frozen Beer’. Sharing the music video for this song, Jack Davies worked alongside photographer and videographer Annie Harvey in bringing this one to life.

Filmed in Perth during WA’s late stages of lockdown, the ‘Half Frozen Beer’ music video features Jack Davies and The Bush Chooks, albeit in a different format to normal.

“It was a rather lonely time, so I just mulled around my house recording bits ‘n bobs. We couldn’t be in groups, so we couldn’t film with my bandmates directly. Instead, I went and stood out the front of their houses and jammed along with them by their windows, kind of a play on the song and the idea of being together. It was really down to the magic of Annie Harvey’s video work that brought it together; I’m stunned by how beautiful the colours and composition of the shots came out, the band just danced around!” Jack Davies

Jack Davies and The Bush Chooks have been garnering acclaim for their music around the country, while also attracting industry praise too, having a WAM and SOTY award to their name, as well as a National Live Music Award for WA’s Best Live Act. Their brand of indie-folk music has drawn over 1.5 million streams on Spotify alone; while also emerging as a formidable touring force, with audiences around the country embracing them as headliners and supporting the likes of Tash Sultana, Weyes Blood and San Cisco.

Off the back of their debut EP Cleaning The Dishes in 2019, Jack Davies and The Bush Chooks became a dynamic force in the WA scene, significant examples of their presence being in their ability to draw almost 500 to the modest Clancy’s Fish Pub in Fremantle and an unprecedented crowd of over 2,000 to the Fremantle Arts Centre their ‘Sunday Music Sessions’ show.

The past couple of months have seen the band return to performing to sold out crowds across the state, as restrictions continue to ease in Western Australia.

PRAISE FOR JACK DAVIES AND THE BUSH CHOOKS

“Every so often a voice captures a moment in time. Slow, melodic and deliberate songwriting that evokes quintessential West Australian imagery, Jack Davies is the voice of a new generation of Perth storytellers.”

RTRFM 92.1

“The west is having a real moment right now and Jack Davies is right there at the tip of the community’s songwriting wellspring.”

Triple J Unearthed, Dave Ruby Howe

“I was thinking to myself today, wondering who of the modern Australian songwriters writing gentle, folk inspired songs have what it takes to be remembered in the long term, and I reckon Jack might be one of them. His songs cut straight to the core and put you in a time and place you didn’t know you were missing.”

Triple J Unearthed, Tommy Faith

“This has my vote as a replacement for the national anthem. Quick witted and clever prose with that lingering banjo and harmonica, Jack is a next gen bush balladeer and I’m in awe.”

The Bluesfest 2021 Fourth Artist Announcement adds an eclectic, diverse list of names to what is already a legendary line up of Australian artists confirmed to perform next Easter on April 1st  – 5th at the beautiful green Byron Events Farm located in Tyagarah 10 minutes north of Byron Bay.

The line-up is programmed with the intention to appeal to a broad audience featuring artists across all genres for all members of the family to enjoy. With the light at the end of the  tunnel in sight, Bluesfest is confidently positioned to be one of the first major festivals back on the circuit for the many music loving patrons aching to come out and soak in some highly anticipated festive vibes.

Back in April this year, many called Bluesfest’s intention to proceed with an event in 2021 as a “brave and bold move”. Proceed it did nonetheless and fortunately the festival is well-poised for a successful event with tickets currently hitting the 60% mark of sell-out in sales, with the bigger nights [Fri-Sat-Sun] selling consistently and rising.

Commenting on the announcement Festival Director, Peter Noble OAM says “Time will tell, but It is being said that the 2021 Bluesfest line up is the greatest assembly of Australian artists to ever perform at one event.  Ticket sales are showing that the Australian public is ready to celebrate safely and we are on target for a sell-out at our expected capacity. My focus right now is on bringing this festival home in 2021.“

Leading the already diverse announcement is Northern Beaches of Sydney natives and ARIA award winners Ocean Alley. Their platinum-selling single ‘Confidence’ won the #1` spot on triple j’s Hottest 100 in 2018 and since that time the band have gone on with sell-out shows right across Australia winning hearts along the way.

Considering Australian music icon John Williamson will celebrate his 51st anniversary in 2021 you can bet this show will be one for the history books. John’s “The Winding Back” tour will celebrate his 51 years in the entertainment industry and foresee closing the book on his regular touring.  The last time John performed at Bluesfest in 2014, so captivated was the crowd that you could hear a pin drop. This great man’s storytelling talents through song and banter is outstanding. He has sold over five million albums and is regarded in the Top Five best-selling Australian artists joining Slim Dusty who sits at No. 1. Considering this is one of the last chances to catch John Williamson live this show should be marked up as “do not miss” in any festival planner.

When Tex Perkins struts up on stage to embody the role of “The Man In Black” for a special Bluesfest only performance you just know you are in for one hell of a good time. Imbued with the best of Johnny Cash hits, Tex Perkins’ reverence for Cash’s career is evident in the way he approaches every song and it is little wonder why “The Man In Black” has been lauded by critics and fans alike, and won Tex and his crew a Helpmann Award for Best Contemporary Australian Concert.

Get ready for an assault of the senses with the Jon Stevens | The Noiseworks & INXS Collection show.  The former lead singer of Noiseworks and INXS stacks this show with nothing but relentless hits. Jon’s visceral charge of emotion is guaranteed to transport you back in time including the INXS songs that were such a huge part of the soundtrack of our lives.

This has got to be the coolest collaboration announced this year; Josh Teskey and Ash Grunwald will take to the stage together and perform songs from a forthcoming album titled “Push The Blues Away”.  The album released on 13th November is born out of a mutual love for the Blues and a genuine appreciation for each other’s talents.

An Australian lineup of this size would not be complete without Vika & Linda. They are Australia’s most revered singing sisters, known for their rich vocal harmonies and stylistic breadth. These ARIA chart toppers bring an added touch of class to the program.

Originally from Canada, Byron Bay local singer-songwriter Garrett Kato went from busking and living out of a backpack to tallying over 45 million worldwide streams and performing sold-out shows alongside Damien Rice and Ziggy Alberts. Immensely talented this young and rapidly rising star will be a musical gem for many to discover at Bluesfest.

Mia Dyson is always welcomed to Bluesfest by her many fans. A Blues pocket-rocket of a performer Mia has won multiple ARIA & APRA awards, toured with the likes of Bonnie Raitt, Chris Isaak, Stevie Nicks and Eric Clapton. Now based in LA, this little lady is one big Blues star and is always welcomed back onto the bill. This will be Mia’s 6th time at Bluesfest.

SNAPSHOT ARTIST BIOGRAPHIES

OCEAN ALLEY

Northern Beaches of Sydney natives Ocean Alley released their critically acclaimed third LP ‘Lonely Diamond’ in June, debuting at #3 on the ARIA Album Chart and garnering four-star reviews from NME and Rolling Stone Australia who praised “a rich, expansive universe brimming with a kind of electricity that’ll make for huge on-stage moments” and “they’ve managed to set a new standard for what their music can be” respectively. It follows the success of their second full-length ‘Chiaroscuro’ in 2018 which propelled the band into national prominence and saw them sell 25,000 tickets over 15 sold out shows that year in Australia along – culminating with their ARIA nominated, double platinum-selling single ‘Confidence’ taking out #1 in triple j’s Hottest 100 of 2018. Their breakthrough year was backed-up with 30 sold out shows around the world in 2019, plus major festival appearances at ‘Reading & Leeds Festival’[UK], ‘Splendour in the Grass’, ‘Sziget’ [HU], ‘BottleRock’ [US] and more, with the band amassing more than 315 million cumulative streams to date.

JOHN WILLIAMSON

In 2021 Australian music icon John Williamson will celebrate his 51st anniversary in the entertainment industry and embark on “The Winding Back” tour which will foresee him closing the book on his regular touring. When John Williamson wandered into Richmond’s GTV9 studios in 1970 with a guitar under his arm, little did the Mallee farmer realise he’d make a 50+-year career out of singing and performing. His performance of ‘Old Man Emu’, the first song John had ever written, on Channel Nine’s popular New Faces program resulted in a number one single and a record deal. It also marked the appearance of a striking new talent: an unofficial custodian of Australian stories. Half a century on, John Williamson has made an art of expertly capturing Australia in song. Painting lyrical pictures of our unique fauna and flora, landscapes and people, John has encapsulated the beauty, wonder and, sometimes, heartbreak of life Down Under. From boabs to billabongs and snowy mountains to sandy beaches, the Mallee-born songwriter’s 52 albums–including 20 original studio albums–have traversed Australia like a dust-covered road train, deftly moving between larrikin humour and touching pathos and have placed him in the Top Five best-selling Australian artists joining Slim Dusty who sits at No. 1. ’The Winding Back’ tour takes in more than 40 dates across Australia through to the end of 2021. With his honours including the ARIA Hall of Fame, an Order of Australia, 28 Golden Guitar Awards, Australian Roll of Renown induction, not to mention over 5 million albums sold and thousands of shows performed, it’s hard to begrudge the 75-year-old a less hectic schedule. First though, there’s a 51sth anniversary to celebrate and what better place than Bluesfest to experience it with Mr True Blue himself.

TEX PERKINS – THE MAN IN BLACK

There are few artists within Australia who can translate the work of ‘The Man in Black’ and bring it to modern day like Tex Perkins. His reverence for Johnny Cash’s career is evident in the way he approaches every song. Johnny Cash made an indelible impact on the international music scene. He passed away in 2003 but is still considered one of the most influential musicians of all time, as his sales of over 50 million records will attest. Tex Perkins needs no introduction to Australian audiences; he is a legend within the Aussie music industry and is revered as one of the country’s rock n’ roll outlaws. It is said his affinity with Johnny Cash started in his earliest band and is an enthusiasm he hasn’t relinquished. After fronting The Cruel Sea, Beasts of Bourbon and touring with Tex, Don and Charlie and The Dark Horses, Tex Perkins has had an incredible and varied music career. Now Perkins returns to his love of singing the songs of Johnny Cash with a special Bluesfest-only

performance. Tex Perkins – The Man In Black at Bluesfest will be more intensely music driven, less talking and more of the music of Johnny Cash.  ‘The Man In Black’ has been lauded by critics and fans alike and won Tex and his crew a Helpmann Award for Best Contemporary Australian Concert.

JON STEVENS

In 2018 a co-founding member of INXS, Andrew Farriss, surprised Jon Stevens by entering the band room after not seeing each other in 15 years to tell Jon he should add more INXS songs to the set list. Jon was on The Best of Jon Stevens Tour reflecting on his 40-year career, performing songs from Noiseworks, Jesus Christ Superstar, The Dead Daisies and his solo collection with just a couple of INXS classics. This reunion with his old friend with whom he’d shared the stage with around the world fronting INXS from 2000-2005 formed the idea for his new tour – ‘Jon Stevens | The Noiseworks and INXS Collection’ Tour. After a sell-out tour in 2019 the former lead singer of Noiseworks and INXS is back tributing the legendary bands that catapulted him into Aussie Rock Royalty! Jon Stevens l The Noiseworks & INXS Collection Tour brings hits “Take Me Back”, “New Sensation”, “Don’t Change”, “Hot Chilli Woman”, “Never Tear Us Apart, “No Lies” and more. This show is an assault of the senses, with nothing but relentless hits.  Miss it and you’re MAD!

JOSH TESKEY & ASH GRUNWALD

Two local powerhouses Josh Teskey [lead singer The Teskey Bros] and Ash Grunwald have teamed up for ‘Push The Blues Away’ (out Friday 13 November) – an album born out of a mutual love for the blues and a genuine appreciation for each other’s talents. This special show will no doubt bring the best out of both artists and is a definite for the “My Planner” section of your Bluesfest App. On ‘Push The Blues Away’, Josh and Ash cast off the weight of expectation and revel in music’s most simple pleasures. Recorded entirely live and straight to tape, with their only percussion consisting of gospel-inspired hand claps and stomps, the pair laid down seven original tunes, some penned by Josh, some by Ash, along with two classic Blues covers, Son House’s ‘Preachin’ Blues’ and the song that kickstarted the whole project, ‘The Sky Is Crying.’ To help them achieve this vision, they enlisted the help of Josh’s brother, Teskey Brothers’ guitarist, vocalist and Grammy-nominated engineer, Sam Teskey on production duty. Both artists have had an extremely busy 12 months; renowned as one of Australia’s finest live performers, Ash Grunwald released his critically acclaimed new album ‘MOJO’ along with his first book, “Surf By Day, Jam By Night” whilst The Teskey Brothers followed up their ARIA Award-winning and Grammy-nominated second album ‘Run Home Slow’ with the 2020 release of ‘Live At Forum’, earning them their first ARIA chart #1.

VIKA & LINDA

They’re Australia’s most revered singing sisters, known for their rich vocal harmonies and stylistic breadth. After three classic albums with The Black Sorrows, Vika & Linda have released six studio albums, two live albums and a chart-topping anthology. They have also sung on number one albums by Paul Kelly, Kasey Chambers and John Farnham, done gigs for the Dalai Lama, Nelson Mandela and the King of Tonga, and been nominated for four ARIA Awards. Recently, whilst still celebrating the recent release of their first ever best-of collection (and first ARIA #1) ‘Akilotoa (Anthology 1996-2004)’, Vika & Linda have wasted no time in following up with an inspired album of gospel songs titled ‘Sunday’(The Gospel According To Iso),’ out now (ARIA #2). The album was borne out of their Sunday Sing Song livestreams on social media during lockdown, and pays tribute to gospel pioneers including Sister Rosetta Tharpe and Mahalia Jackson. These are songs about survival, compassion and redemption.

GARRETT KATO

Originally from Canada, Byron Bay local singer-songwriter & producer Garrett Kato went from busking and living out of a backpack to tallying over 45 million worldwide streams and performing sold-out shows alongside Damien Rice and Ziggy Alberts. He landed a sync in Hollywood blockbuster ‘Bad Moms’ and his single ‘Take It Slowly’ has surpassed 13 million Spotify streams. His 2019 EP, ‘Distant Land’, earned the endorsement of triple j and Beatroute Magazine as the title track eclipsed 2.7 million Spotify streams. At the same time, he cemented himself as an in-demand, platinum-award winning producer. He worked with Ziggy Alberts on his 2016 EP ‘Four Feet in the Forest’ (certified Platinum) and his 2018 album ‘Laps Around the Sun’ (certified Platinum) and has also worked with Pete Murray, Kyle Lionheart, Riley Pearce, Pierce Brothers, Jack Botts and more.

MIA DYSON

Mia Dyson is an award-winning guitarist and singer/songwriter who has toured the country with the likes of Eric Clapton, Bonnie Raitt, Chris Isaak and many more. A multiple ARIA & APRA award-winning artist, Dyson has been named one of Australia’s top 25 guitarists of all time. Growing up in the Australian bush and in the sleepy beach town of Torquay, Mia Dyson was raised listening to American music as her dad was a big Blues fan and her mother a big Bob Dylan fan. It was at an early age Mia became fascinated by the mythology of American rock & roll. Since moving to Los Angeles in 2010, Dyson’s triumphs have included opening for Stevie Nicks at the Santa Barbara Bowl, in addition to self-releasing ‘Idyllwild’, ‘The Moment’ and ‘If I Only Said So Far I Take It Back’ to critical acclaim.

Built To Spill Wine offers a delicious selection of natural wines from across the globe, while they also invite musicians to team up with some of Australia’s best natural winemakers to craft the bottle of their dreams for music fans and wine lovers to enjoy.

The life and business paths of the team at BTSW have been inextricably linked for over two decades – from running DIY venues and labels supporting hardcore bands in the early 2000’s, to the promotion and hosting of countless UNIFIED related bands at Crowbar, and most recently Crowbar running the VIP bar at UNIFY Gathering. Roots in punk-rock and Do-It-Yourself are at the heart of what UNIFIED & Crowbar do – no less a commitment to Do-It-With-Friends – and Built To Spill Wine is the ultimate extension of this ethos.

Premium bespoke bottles are the product, which is where Crowbar’s chief Wine Wizard Tai Tate comes in. With over 15 years experience in wine and fine dining (credits include the likes of Porteno, Bodega, Mary’s, P&V), Tai brings an expert knowledge and extensive industry network to the team, scouring the country for its top winemakers to partake in artist collaborations.

“We are excited to expose the whole country to a new wealth of talent in both wine and music, to push the boundaries of creativity and collaboration, to pair the old guard with the new school, and maybe find common ground between the established and the up and comers,” he says, adding that the project also offers a unique opportunity to educate consumers on the care that goes into crafting both wine and music.

All Built To Spill Wines are considered “natural”, meaning they enjoy a wild ferment (ie: no packet yeast), possess no corrective additives such as acid/colours/powdered tannin, and contain minimal sulphur.

UNIFIED Founder & CEO Jaddan Comerford explains that BTSW ultimately encompasses each company’s dedication to boundary-pushing creativity and collaboration, arguably needed in business and art now more than ever before.

Tyla Dombroski (Crowbar) elaborates that once COVID-19 shut down their live music business arm and left so many artists stranded, the team put their heads together to find new ways to forge business opportunities for themselves and bands alike.

“The best thing about it all has been connecting everyone together, not only helping ourselves while our venue has been closed and artists who haven’t been able to tour, but the winemakers around Australia as well,” she says.

“They’ve had a rough year since the fires impacting their grapes and now with COVID-19 closing down bars and restaurants. Everyone is super happy to be working together to create something different for music and wine lovers from all walks of life to enjoy while working with sustainable and minimal impact farming.”

Today BTSW launches The Chats Goon, meanwhile a second artist collaboration will launch next week. It comes after the Crowbar team independently launched successful drink collabs with artists including WAAX, Northlane, Josh Pyke and more earlier this year.

The Chats Goon:

Take your clothes off the line and get ready to peg a few silver pillows on, because BTSW have put together a box of the finest goon with The Chats and Delinquente Wine Co. Encased in the most primo cardboard, with some pictures by local legend Struthless, this is the perfect accompaniment to your Pub Feed, your Smoko, or to make you feel better about getting The Clap.

This is white goon made with a bunch of all natural, happy grapes chucked together, fermented wild and bugger all other stuff added except for a bit of sulfur just to Keep the Grubs Out. Save up your Bus Money or go halves with a mate, being the equivalent of two bottles in one glorious box, it is such good value you won’t even have to Dine n Dash. Beauty.

“It’s fucken good”
– Eamon, The Chats

Moving to 100% virtual and 100% free this year, BIGSOUND 2020 gets ready to go live in your living rooms, laptop screens, and office spaces from tomorrow on Wednesday October 21st and Thursday 22nd, bringing together a stacked conference program of keynote presentations, panels, workshops, performances and parties covering a wide range of topics and discussions aiming to re-future a challenged industry with positivity, connection and reality.

“BIGSOUND 2020 will entertain and inform, but at its core, it is a platform for us to connect and share an experience that we have grown to mark our years by,” said BIGSOUND conference programmer Tom Larkin.
“High level insights from international speakers such as Tim Urban, a programming stream dedicated entirely to mental health skills, through to the comic relief of Nat’s What I Reckon dragging his mate Briggs along a high-risk adventure of BBQ calorie acrobatics, defines the scope of what BIGSOUND has to offer.
“This year we hope to provide an opportunity to explore not only the many challenges we have have faced as an industry together but also what is on the horizon, how we could make the best of that knowledge, and a chance to reflect with those who have defined our business to this point and how we might reshape it for the better,” said Mr Larkin.

Some not-to-be-missed highlights include a keynote from Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine, Audioslave, Prophets Of Rage, the Nightwatchman) with a presentation exploring his life as a musician and activist. BIGSOUND will also host a line up of special in-conversation sessions with the legendary Kev Carmody, ARIA-award winner Amy Shark, as well as a keynote presentation from global superstar Tones And I.

Artificial intelligence and creativity thought leader Tim Urban will delve into our creative consciousness with ‘The Wizards Hat – Our Brain’s Magical Future’, Rhoda Roberts and Ziggy Ramo will discuss the Indigenous future of the music industry, while American Grammy-nominee Maimouna Youssef aka Mumu Fresh will discuss career, community and survival in 2020.

BIGSOUND will also see Australia’s hero of COVID, culinary crusader Nat’s What I Reckon and special guest Briggs present an exclusive BIGSOUND cooking show,  and legendary production manager and founder of CrewCare Australia Howard Freeman (Big Day Out, INXS, AC/DC, Eminem, Neil Young, Prince, Rolling Stones) will host a poignant session exploring the hard realities of life on the road, the impacts it has on mental and physical health and creating a culture of help-seeking.

“Thank you to my QMusic team for pulling BIGSOUND together this year and a special thanks to the programmers, Creative Director Janne Scott, Conference Programmer Tom Larkin, First Nations Producer Alethea Beetson and Festival Programmers Ruby Jean-McCabe and Dom Miller,” said BIGSOUND Executive Producer Angela Samut and QMusic CEO. “There has never been a question of whether we should cancel BIGSOUND against the backdrop of COVID-19 but rather how can we best connect our industry that has been knocked to its knees but that stands united to recover and rebound with a stronger voice.”

———————————————————————————————————-

Adding to the already stacked program, Support Act will host a series of 7x “On My Mind” workshops which will see a wide range of representatives discuss common mental health struggles we face as an industry. Teskey Brothers’ Brendon Love, author and broadcaster Jane Gazzo, Nat’s What I Reckon, triple j’s Max Quinn, Frontier Touring’s Sahara Herald, artist Nathan Cavaleri, psychologists Ash King, Emse Holmes, and more will provide honest insights and realistic pathways for how to cope with the many diverse stressors of the industry.

“Support Act is totally pumped to be part of this year’s BIGSOUND, and we are excited to present these seven workshops on Wednesday and Thursday. We have put together an outstanding program of speakers who will provide invaluable insights and advice for achieving and maintaining good mental health, which as we all know is critical to maximising success in the music industry,” said Support Act CEO, Clive Miller.

Delegates can also join a whole range of vital and informative workshops on Spotify streaming, change management, and financial crisis management for practical advice and strategies needed by a community ready to face 2021. Bolster will be presenting a quick fire look at trends and new tech that will affect how we make, market, discover and consume music in the coming years with “A-Z Of Future Music Marketing”, as well as dissecting the fundamentals of social media and digital marketing for music, and how to gain the confidence to take control of your digital destiny with “Digital Music Marketing Foundations”, and BIGSOUND also welcomes speed date workshops from Green Music Australia with a very limited opportunity to book a one-on-one workshop with Berish Bilander and Emma Bosworth from Green Music Australia to discuss how to make your music practice more green and reduce waste.

It’s not BIGSOUND without a party! BIGSOUND is pleased to announce the official 2020 virtual parties, an online space aimed at providing some post-conference entertainment for BIGSOUND delegates to kick back and enjoy performances and showcases from a range of artists and performers from around the world.

Dancing their way to Australian palms, fingertips and screens of all sizes, South Korea’s sweethearts of electro art-pop, Wedance bring their unprecedented energy and charisma to our virtual shores for a special ‘Dancing On The Farm’ performance spectacular and Q&A (presented by Highjinkx).

Having previously performed at BIGSOUND 2018, plus multiple Festival appearances throughout Asia and the world (including Fuji Rock, Primavera Sound and more) Wedance have built a cult following with their powerfully positive and dynamic live performances.

Indigenous North will also offer electrifying performances and interviews for an intimate picture of outstanding artists from Treaty 1 Territory (Winnipeg) and the traditional and unceded territory of the Kanien’keh:ka of Kahnawà:ke (Montréal), and JMC Academy will also be showcasing their best up and coming students for their Emerging Artist Showcase.

And you can catch even more music over at First Nations House, a unique partnership with Spotify as part of their ongoing commitment to promote and increase the representation of First Nations artists from around the globe, on and off their platform.

“We applaud BIGSOUND for its major focus this year on First Nations music, and congratulate the organisers for their ingenuity and flexibility in moving to a free, online event,” said Australia Council CEO Adrian Collette, “We are confident this year’s edition of BIGSOUND will continue to enable important industry connections as well as the sharing of ideas and of course, great music.”

Eight selected artists from The BIGSOUND50 will perform as part of the  Dreaming Loud showcase performance nightly on Wednesday 21st and Thursday 22nd October, including: Aodhan, Birdz, CLOE TERARE, Kee’ahn, Matalja, Oetha, Southeast Desert Metal and The Yorke Band. Following the final showcase, the entertainment will continue with a Dreaming Loud DJ set featuring special guest Dameeeela.

THE SOUND – SEASON TWO | The critically acclaimed show returns Sunday 1 November, 6pm on ABC + iview

by the partae October 16, 2020
written by the partae
Watch The Sound on iview
‘The Sound became destination TV instantly. Somehow, in lockdown, The Sound team created world-class live music videos for Australian artists on a weekly basis – no matter if they were on their first or 21st album. And it put original Australian music back on prime-time national TV.’ – Herald Sun

After garnering widespread praise from critics and public alike, Mushroom Group is thrilled to confirm The Sound will return to ABC screens with season two this November – just in time for Ausmusic Month!

The weekly hour-long show will make its return from Sunday 1 November at 6pm (local time). Viewers can watch The Sound on the tele each Sunday evening, or catch encore screenings on Saturdays at 1.30pm, or catch up with episodes via ABC iview.

It’s been seven months since COVID crippled Australia’s live music industry, leaving artists, venues, crew and music lovers without a vital part of our country’s culture and economy. Born out of this crisis, The Sound’s purpose is clear: to showcase Australian music.

With unique, multi-platform content curated and filmed by the Mushroom Vision team, season two will continue to highlight the vast array of local talent within our industry, with artists given the opportunity to perform for prime-time audiences on our national broadcaster.

In a word, season one was epic: 85 artists filmed at 58 locations nationwide. Performance clips on socials reached 1.68m+ viewers, while media resoundingly embraced the show with rave reviews:

‘The Sound is carving out something entirely new, and completely breathtaking … If you’re not across new live music show The Sound, you should be’ – Junkee

‘ABC TV’s team-up with Mushroom Vision for The Sound has become appointment viewing for Aussie music fans over the past month.’ – The Music Network

‘Putting together a weekly music show of this calibre, during a pandemic era, when live music, media, production, hospitality, travel and other associated industries are operating under stringent lockdowns, stops just short of a modern miracle.’ – Musicfeeds

Returning to season two is series host Jane Gazzo (ex-triple j, Recovery), who will also be joined on our screens by triple j Good Nights gal, Bridget Hustwaite. The pair will be joined each episode by a special, music-loving guest co-host – season one co-hosts included Russell Crowe, Myf Warhurst, Bryan Brown, Keith Urban, Deborah Mailman, Red Symons and more. Expect the return of segments ‘From The Vault’ (unseen historical footage) and ‘Tribute’ (incredible collaborations on legendary tracks, such as this Divinyls’ cover)… plus a few new surprises.

From Paul Kelly at Melbourne’s Hamer Hall, Amy Shark at Sydney’s Bennelong Restaurant, Nick Cave and Kylie Minogue in London, John Butler at home in Margaret River, Bliss n Eso on top of the world and Guy Sebastian, Jimmy Barnes, Missy Higgins and more on stage…  The Sound season one was packed full of ARIA winners and chart toppers. Add to that list moving performances by incredible First Nations talent (Scott Darlow, Electric Fields, Jessica Mauboy and more), plus radio favourites (Mark Seymour, Sheppard, Illy, Angie McMahon, G Flip, Tones And I + countless others), not to mention the hottest new talent (SYCCO, Lastlings, Benee and more)… and season one delivered the goods.

Says host Jane Gazzo: “I am delighted to be part of The Sound season two. Australian music is not just being celebrated, but also documented and highlighted during what has been possibly the most unusual year ever for the arts and music industry. The positive feedback from season one validated just how much Aussie audiences love their music television… I look forward to seeing the massive talent and contributions from so many of our established and emerging artists. Bring it on!”

Season two will be even bigger. You don’t want to miss an episode!Tune in for The Sound season two this Ausmusic Month – with the first episode airing Sunday 1 November at 6pm on ABC TV or iview.

Chambord

by the partae October 16, 2020
written by the partae

Hey guys, welcome to The Partae! Congrats on your ‘Wonderland’ release, your Kindisch debut. Where did the inspiration for this track come from?

T : Hey Partae, thanks for having us. Thank you so much, we’re super excited about this release. We love the track, the remixes and the label.  We can’t be happier.

P : Regarding this track the inspiration came last year when I was watching a western movie. I can’t remember the name of it but I still remember the guitar loop. We did the track in 1 day or 2. We had this guitar sample and we wanted to use it like an endless riff that stuck in your head.

And there was born Wonderland and its unstoppable melody.

Where did you write it and what key gear did you use? Did it come together naturally?

T : We produced the track in our old studio in Paris. (We are now based in the countryside of France). We used the Korg minilog for the lead which appears on the main break. The bass was done on our ‘best friend’: the Moog Little Phatty. Finally, we use our singing talent to do the voice; that was a challenge because we’re not Adele.

You’ve got Maga and Carlita on the remixes, how do you know both of them? And why did you pick them for this release?

P : When Kindisch approved the track, straight away we wanted to do 2 remixes with 2 different vibes. We chat a lot with Carlita since the Abracadabra party in Tulum in January 2020. We love her style and her energy when she’s playing and we know that she produced very good tracks like Love Wins or El Rithmo del Tambor. It was quite logical to have her on board, and we love the remix she did for us.

T : We met Maga at the party in Tulum too (parties there are the best:)). We wanted him because he has such a great vibe on his productions. He knows how to build a track perfectly. His remix is amazing too.
With him and Carlita it’s THE dream team for us 😉

Generally what’s your structure in the studio, do you always work well together writing music? Or how does it normally flow?

P : We’re doing most of our stuff together. We like it that way; it’s like a good ping pong match, I bring an idea, he brings one too. But lately, due to covid, we’ve had to start almost every new project alone and then we finish or edit together.

T : It’s like an ‘E-ping pong’, but we’d rather be together when it’s time to produce.

You’ve been perfecting your live set, and recently did the incredible stream at a UNESCO site in France to raise funds for Bye Bye Plastic, the set up looks incredible! When did you switch to live, and what do you think the benefits are with live versus DJing?

T : It was one of our goals since day one. We always wanted to perform live. At our debut we had not enough equipment, then we were running out of time to really work on it. Actually it takes so much time to prepare for a whole live set!

P : I’m the musician of our duo, and for me it was so important to play live. For me, it’s what performing should be. I love to DJ, building a set during a party, but live is more challenging and brings a new dimension to our music. Wonderland for example was so powerful live.

What’s next on the horizon for you guys?

P : Many things from a production point of view: 2 remixes are coming out before 2021 on Cosmic Awakenings and Wayu, and for 2021 we should have 3 new EPs and remixes too.
We also want to work on a new live show asap. It’s like a drug now! 😉

CROCODYLUS ANNOUNCE ‘SOCIAL CLIMBER’ TOUR + NEW VIDEO “CAMOUFLAGE” Hitting Venues Across NSW in November & December

by the partae October 16, 2020
written by the partae

Crocodylus are stoked to announce the Social Climber tour, hitting venues across NSW in November and December. They’ve also gifted us with a new single/video “Camouflage”, out today via Bargain Bin Records!

Boasting a classic Crocs feel, “Camouflage” is another tantalizing appetiser before the main course arrives in 2021. A ditty about a recurring eye infection and retreating from the world out of self-consciousness, “Camouflage” takes its cues from some of the punk rock greats. The accompanying video is the kind of cooked hallucinatory dream one has after isolating from the world for far too long and there’s a lot of skin-on-skin that will leave you screaming in these pandemic times…

Frontman Josh Williams elaborates: “At the start of each year I get this eye infection and that’s the time I know I need to hibernate to get better. So that’s what this song is about, an eye infection. I get kind of embarrassed, as you can tell from the opening lyrics ‘Don’t wanna be seen’. I hummed the song in my head at work and wrote it on guitar as soon as I got home. We then had a producing day with Owen Penglis and tightened the song up a bit. It’s influenced by such bands like The Saints, The Damned and The Clash maybe just not as cool.”

Jumping in the van next month to launch their Social Climber / Camouflage 7” (also out today!) the trio will bring their wares and a couple of new tunes from their forthcoming debut album to venues in Wollongong, Sydney, Byron Bay and Newcastle.

The Social Climber tour also marks their first proper run of dates since the pandemic put a halt to live music earlier this year. After a massive start to 2020 that saw Crocodylus selling out shows across the country, the band were only just getting warmed up until, well, we all know how the story of this year goes. Crocs haven’t been completely out of commission though, they managed to sneak in some socially distanced and very sold out live shows back in August. And don’t let the seated format fool you, the trio still slayed back-to-back sets with Monster Children witnessing the spectacle, saying “Croc boys tore the house down, rebuilt it, and tore it all down again.”

Released last month, “Social Climber” (the single) is Crocs most affecting song yet, revealing a new side to the band that was completely welcomed. The single premiered on triple j’s Home & Hosed and earned a perfect score from host Declan Byrne, rightly declaring, “Crocodylus have nailed this one”.

Tickets for the Social Climber tour are on sale now and we expect them to be snapped up really quick, so don’t wait.

The Rubens’ fourth album 0202, out Friday 21 February, 2021
‘Time Of My Life’ video out now
‘Live In Life’ nominated for ARIA Song of the Year
2021 Live In Life Tour re-branded to 0202 Album Tour
Today Ivy League Records is incredibly proud to announce that 0202, the fourth album from The Rubens, will be released on Friday 12 February 2021, available to pre-order now via digital, CD, LP & various merchandise bundles. Cementing their status as a band that continues to evolve as songwriters and push the boundaries of alternative rock/pop, 0202 – featuring recent singles ‘Live In Life’ (nominated for ARIA Song of the Year), ‘Heavy Weather’ & current single ‘Time Of My Life’ – is an exciting new chapter for The Rubens and a celebration of the five-piece at their creative peak.

To coincide with the announce, the band today release the powerful video for ‘Time Of My Life’, a track that boasts one of the biggest hooks in the band’s catalogue to date – watch below.

With a cast made up entirely of 18-year-old, year 12 students, the clip was inspired by the numerous emails and DMs the band has received throughout COVID-19, from students doing it tough at a time that should be full of excited anticipation for the future.
“We wrote Time Of My Life before COVID, but we knew at the time that the song had a nostalgic feel to it. Once we started getting emails from year 12 students and teachers, we realised it could be more meaningful. We got together with our good mate and collaborative partner Russ and he directed the video. We wanted it to be a homage to Year 12 Class Of 2020.” – The Rubens
The clip serves as a dedication to these resilient young adults and matches the song’s themes of hopeful introspection, musing over the ramifications of time and perspective – ultimately choosing to overcome fear and embrace the future for all its unknowns. ‘Time Of My Life’ has been hugely embraced by loyal and new fans alike, including triple j (#1 most played), commercial radio, Spotify & Apple Music.

The Rubens’ fourth record, 0202, is a forward-thinking album for a backward year. 0202 sees the band in the driver’s seat and the result is their most assured album to date, and boasts a sound that effortlessly dances across genres – alt-rock, rnb, pop and hip hop all collide into something uniquely their own. With 0202 the band have fully transformed into an alt-rock/pop powerhouse and self-produced an album that will have people re-evaluating what they thought they knew about The Rubens.

The arrival of The Rubens’ fourth album – almost ten years since their first upload to triple j unearthed as teenagers – is a credit to their incessant work ethic & the impact the band have made over their incredible career. LO LA RU, featured hits ‘Never Ever (feat Sarah)’ (now Double Platinum), ‘Million Man’ (Certified Gold), ‘God Forgot’ (Certified Gold) and lead to sold out shows and a 42-date Arena tour supporting megastar P!NK. Hoops saw the band sell out headline shows at Hordern Pavilion and Margaret Court Arena and included hits ‘Hallelujah’, ‘Cut Me Loose’ and of course the 4 x Platinum the hit title track, which topped the 2015 triple j Hottest 100, while their debut self-titled LP was home to ‘My Gun’ (Certified Platinum), ‘Lay It Down’ (Certified Gold), ‘The Best We Got’ and more fan-favourites.

A huge testament to their unwavering talent and ability to constantly reinvent themselves, 0202 marks the start of yet another exciting chapter for the band.  “We’re so bloody proud of this album and the way we created it, and we can’t believe how lucky we are to have made it this far. Thanks to all our fans for being there, we can’t wait for you to hear this one!”

Following the recent second postponement of the band’s ‘Live In Life’ tour due to COVID-19, their biggest headline tour to date, the tour will now be rebranded to the 0202 Album Tour. The new dates, taking place from April – June, 2021, will see the NSW band play metro cities for the first time since their 2018 LO LA RU album shows as well as regional venues across the 24-date run.

The Sunlight Mound, set for release February 2021. For the Perth group, creativity and production hasn’t stopped in 2020. Despite much of this year’s tour plans being put on pause, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets have used their time off road to continue preparing themselves for the release of their fourth studio release, and an eventual blistering return to stages around the world with a heavy-hitter of an album primed for the live space.   From SHYGA! The Sunlight Mound, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets share a new effervescent taste of music in their new single, ‘Tally-Ho’. As you may come to expect from the band at this point, ‘Tally-Ho’ revels in creative hedonism, written to engage the senses and make your ears tingle with excitement.   As frontman and songwriter Jack McEwan explains, the genesis of a song like ‘Tally-Ho' can be found in the backyard at 3am of any house party, outside your local waiting for an Uber at the end of Friday night sesh. Those late night attempts to solve the world problems, fuelled by cooked inhibitions and over-thought mind ramblings.   “‘Tally-Ho reenacts the classic fable of late night gonzo talks on copious amounts of chemical enthusiasm. I wanted the lyrics to feel sporadic and impulsive, kinda like the conversation you’d have with a mate after a night out; where you just want to debate something, but most of your synapses are already fried, so you’re both blurting out gibberish, but really giving it a good go at sounding formal. A sober third party might assume you’re both morons but between the constant waves of inebriated dialogue you feel like you’ve activated God mode and are only a few online classes away from becoming a favoured politician that will solve all the world’s problems.” Jack McEwan, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets Psychedelic Porn Crumpets have already given fans an early taste of the forthcoming SHYGA! era, with ‘Mr. Prism’ in August. Earning acclaim upon its release across Spotify, Apple Music, Triple J, BBC Radio One, Radio X and titles including NME, CLASH, The Line Of Best Fit and Rolling Stone Australia, ‘Mr. Prism’ signalled something special was building out on the West Coast; Psychedelic Porn Crumpets were gearing up for something big. The creation of SHYGA! The Sunlight Mound, especially off the back of 2019’s huge LP And Now For The Whatchamacallit, came together in a different environment for McEwan and the results speak to the band’s evolution and McEwan’s evolution as a songwriter.   “For the first time in a long time I was home without any tours booked, no work, no deadlines and I felt free to create. My writing process became ritualistic; every morning starting with a small walk to the local bottle shop at 11am and writing whatever flowed, allowing myself to design in all styles without boundaries, and not trying to theme the album early on. I haven’t had the luxury of writing this way since the first record, which I spent almost a year working on. It felt like I was myself again, creating without opinion or constraints. I was gliding through weeks with a day seeming to pass.” Jack McEwan, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets   2019 was a massive year for Psychedelic Porn Crumpets both at home in Australia and in the international market. A year of sold out shows across North America, UK, Australia and Europe, not to mention spots on lucrative festivals including Splendour in the Grass and Desert Daze, the Psychedelic Porn Crumpets was well received by thousands.   The release of the bands third studio album And Now For The Whatchamacallit landed at #1 on the ARIA Vinyl charts and reaped praise from all corners with support from Triple J, BBC Radio 1, NPR and noted publications  including Q, Classic Rock and DIY have further cemented Psychedelic Porn Crumpets as a long lasting musical presence. BIGSOUND, produced by Qmusic, continues its support and dedication to opening more spaces for First Nations music, dialogues, and community connection in 2020 and beyond with the announcement of this year’s First Nations House, a unique partnership with Spotify as part of their ongoing commitment to promote and increase the representation of First Nations artists from around the globe, on and off their platform.
Launching today and remaining open for the next 12 months, BIGSOUND’s First Nations House will be a safe and dedicated 100% virtual global meeting space for supporting, promoting and celebrating First Nations music from around the world, including hosting workshops and performances, and a platform for artists to gather and share their music and messages.
“Against the backdrop of the pandemic we have seen significant impact to the music industry with the impact to First Nations artists disproportionate,” said Jonathan Harrison, Artist & Label Partnerships Manager, Spotify Australia & New Zealand

“Now more than ever, our commitment to increasing the representation of First Nations artists on the Spotify platform, and off, is crucial. We are extremely proud to advocate for Indigenous music through our partnership with BIGSOUND to bring First Nations House back to this year’s event. By providing a space to nurture and support Indigenous music, we can showcase the creativity and diversity of First Nations artists, driving broader engagement within the music industry.”
Through the partnership with Spotify, the BIGSOUND First Nations House programming will be BIGSOUND’s premiere musical performance event with its series of exclusive Dreaming Loud Showcases. Eight selected artists will perform a filmed on country showcase performance nightly on Wednesday 21st and Thursday 22nd October, including: Aodhan, Birdz, CLOE TERARE, Kee’ahn, Matalja, Oetha, Southeast Desert Metal and The Yorke Band.
Following the final showcase, the entertainment will continue with a Dreaming Loud DJ set featuring special guest Dameeeela. The digital platform will also spotlight the 22 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists from The BIGSOUND50.

There will also be a special performance presentation by Indigenous Music West at Manitoba Music. Filmed in Treaty 1 Territory (Winnipeg) and the traditional and unceded territory of the Kanien’keh:ka of Kahnawà:ke (Montréal), Indigenous North will offer electrifying performances and interviews for an intimate picture of outstanding artists from those regions, including Celeigh Cardinal, acclaimed country singer/songwriter Don Amero, Inuk singer/songwriter Elisapie, and multi-instrumentalist R&B artist Sebastian Gaskin.

BIGSOUND First Nations House is also honoured to feature artwork by Dylan Mooney: a Yuwi man from Mackay, central Queensland, Torres Strait Islander from Darnley Island and Badu Island and Australian born South Sea Islander. “This artwork represents the importance of music for Indigenous peoples,” said Dylan, “our people create songs to tell stories, to share our cultural knowledge and to bring awareness to the wider community.”

The newly-added BIGSOUND First Nations House programming sits alongside the already-announced First Nations conference program line up in what is an outstanding and unique representation of the music, voices, conversations and issues faced by Indigenous and First Nations communities and artists today.

“As the industry re-futures, it is imperative that spaces like BIGSOUND and Spotify support, promote and celebrate Indigenous artists and the music they make,” said First Nations Producer and Programmer, Alethea Beetson.

“In a time where there has been a resurgence of Black Lives Matter, which has long been the Black Deaths in Custody movement in so-called Australia, the BIGSOUND First Nations conversations address the issues of systemic racism in the music industry by offering Indigenous led solutions to some of the now common problems we are facing in 2020, and beyond.”

Included in the conference program, Kev Carmody will host a keynote presentation titled “Cannot Buy My Soul”; Ziggy Ramo and Rhoda Roberts will discuss the future of the music industry from a place of sovereignty, truth-telling and change for “100% BLAK: The Indigenous Future Of The Music Industry”.

“Beyond the Black Tile” will feature Dameeeela, Busty Beatz and more for an honest discussion between people of colour and the music sector about performative allyship and real reparations from the music industry with pathways and suggestions on how to dismantle and reform the systems from within; and “Cultural Resurgence” will tackle the importance of storytelling and culture in and through music with artists Dr Lou Bennett, Gina Williams, Jeremy Dutcher and Thomas E.S. Kelly.

Other BIGSOUND First Nations Conversations include: “Pay The Rent; Can ‘Quotas’ Lead to Reparations?“, a Keynote with “Maimouna Youssef AKA Mumu Fresh“, “Rest Is Revolution: When Self-Care Is More Than A Buzzword, It Is Survival“, and “Community>Industry: The Application Of Indigenous Knowledges in the Music Sector“.

FOJAM PRESENTS LADIES WHO SING LEONARD
A LEONARD COHEN TRIBUTE EVENT
SATURDAY 7 NOVEMBER, 8.30PM – 10PM (ONLINE)
Presented by Triple R

“It’s been 20 years since I fell hard for the words of Leonard Cohen and the pictures he painted. It’s also been 20 years since I wanted to make my life about music, art and poetry. This project is inspired by my (sometimes confused) Jewish heritage, the spirit of my homeland and all the sex, love and death that falls in between. Leonard Cohen taught me that art can change the lives of the people around you.”
– Anita Lester, FOJAM Curator

Immersive contemporary cultural festival, Festival of Jewish Arts and Music (FOJAM) returns in 2020, showcasing an immense spread of local and international artists through the lens of Jewish culture and identity. Following the success of its inaugural event of last year, this year’s live festival has had to adapt to the current global COVID-19 restrictions and has translocated from the streets to the clouds, with its 2020 Homeward Bound online series. Continuing the celebrations of Jewish music, performance, dance, talks, storytelling and creativity, the virtual series seeks to spark discussion, empathy and curiosity through thought provoking panel discussions, live streamed performances and bespoke online events. A nod to the famed Jewish duo Simon and Garfunkel, the monthly series has been taking place over the past six months and is ready to reach its season finale with the unmissable Ladies Who Sing Leonard concert.

Coinciding with the four-year anniversary of his passing, the Leonard Cohen tribute concert will feature Ninet Tayeb (ISRAEL), Kate Ceberano, Katie Noonan, Deborah Conway, Kylie Auldist, Emily Lubitz, Gabriella Cohen, Emma Donovan, Kee’ahn, Loretta Miller (Jazz Party), Melody Pool, Imogen Clark, Alma & Hettie Zygier, Tamara Reichman (Tamara & the Dreams), Sophia Tuv and an in-conversation with Anita Lester. The impressive lineup of dynamic artists will weave Leonard’s words around their own unique narratives in an immersive and transcendental tribute like no other.

“We are absolutely thrilled to present this divine tribute show on the anniversary of Leonard Cohen’s death. His work has had, and continues to have, such a deep impact on so many artists and people around the world. It’s particularly poignant that we will work to connect through his music at a time that has left so many feeling isolated and disconnected.” – Lior Albeck-Ripka, Artistic Director

“I have always seen the woman beneath his stories and it was important to me, when putting a tribute together, to truly embody his work, not simply focused on who can sing the songs the best.”
– Anita Lester, Curator

“We really want this to be an immersive experience despite the digital limitations and are hoping we can create a feeling of connection between audiences and artists.”
 – Lior Albeck-Ripka, Artistic Director

FOJAM launched their Homeward Bound series back in June with the hugely successful online event Unorthodox: Stories of Escape, which brought together Unorthodox author, Deborah Feldman, trans-activist and author of Becoming Eve, Abby Stein and local activist and soon to be published author Dassi Erlich, in a live panel discussion to dissect the series and their own personal journeys of exodus. Since then, the FOJAM series has clocked over 6000 online attendees on a ‘pay what you can’ basis, to create access for those, not in a position to pay for their tickets. In the series’ next online experience, Ladies Who Sing Leonard will take place on Saturday 7 November via Zoom in honour of an exceptional Jewish figure and creative whose legacy has left its mark far and wide.

“We know there are many in the community who want to support the arts. By choosing to purchase a ticket at a level they are comfortable with, audiences can continue to show their support for the festival and the artists. FOJAM will continue its commitment to delivering high quality events and always paying artists.” – Jesse Lubitz, Festival Producer

About FOJAM
Founded five years ago as Shir Madness in Melbourne by ARIA award winning legend Deborah Conway and Willy Zygier, the Jewish music and arts festival reinvented itself in 2019 under the direction of Lior Albeck-Ripka and Jesse Lubitz, founders of Melbourne independent events and artist management agency, Hear Them Holler. The festival saw 1,500 people enjoy a dynamic swathe of music concerts, contemporary dance, drag performances, storytelling and talk series at Melbourne Recital Centre over 12 hours, in September last year. In May 2020, FOJAM announced they would be presenting a series of online events called Homeward Bound. They have had between 1,000 – 3,000 people register for each of their major online events. This is their fourth major online event.

One Out Festival: Sign Up

One Out Festival – Home

After a difficult year, One Out Festival’s much anticipated debut gives house and disco aficionados something irresistible to look forward to on 19th June 2021: playing across two fantastically realised stages with world class sound, lush green landscapes and the snaking Thames River at Apps Court Farm in the heart of Surrey, will be global superstars Roger Sanchez, Hannah Wants, Artwork, Paul Woolford, Krystal Klear, La La, Low Steppa, Sam Divine, Mambo Brothers, Weiss, Menendez Brothers and many more. Ticket Pre-Sale opens October 15th, and General Sale October 16th at One Out Festival: Sign Up. You can be safe in the knowledge that if One Out 2021 is postponed or cancelled due to Covid-19, full ticket transfers or refunds will be available.
Set over the 86 acres of Apps Court Farm, with rolling greenery, hidden lakes and a beautifully natural vibe just 35 minutes from London, One Out is a festival curated by music lovers, for music lovers. It will be a friendly and forward looking coming together of music obsessives in a personal and intimate setting, surrounded by ancient forests and with the glistening River Thames streaming past nearby. A vital attention to detail when it comes to light, sound and location is what stands One Out Festival apart as it welcomes you to get down on a house music Main Stage and Disco Big Top with plenty of hi-tech trimmings.
Musically, every shade of house and disco is covered in real style. First up is New York legend Roger Sanchez, who has helped shape the underground sound for decades on vital labels like Strictly Rhythm, his own Stealth and Ministry of Sound. Coming off the back of his Top 5 Chart hit with Diplo, Paul Woolford also lines up with his broad house sound, which covers everything from peak time anthems to vocal gems and deeper cuts, while Artwork always brings the energy as a long time party starter who has an unveiled knowledge of how to move a floor.
Hannah Wants is the headliner to see for those who like their house with some seriously earth shattering bass, and Krystal Klear is a fellow contemporary trendsetter who runs the label Cold Tonic and has released on Running Back, Madtech and more while heading cult underground clubs all over the planet. With Defected associate and high energy selector Sam Divine, hit making bass, house and garage outfit Low Steppa as well as La La, Mambo Brothers, Weiss, Philip George, Menendez Brothers and residents such as Ben Read, Chris Thomas, Dale Castell, DEZ and LUCiD all playing, One Out Festival is all set to make a spectacular and unforgettable debut.

One Out Festival knows we are #BetterAsOne, and is ready and waiting to get the dance music community back together and dancing once again.
