The unstoppable rise of The Lathums escalates further with the announcement that the four-piece will play their biggest shows to date in April and May 2021, including a dream-come-true date at the historic O2 Ritz, Manchester and a return to the capital to play at London’s Electric Ballroom. The 13-date, nationwide run goes onsale to the band’s fervent, and growing, fanbase on Fri 31 July 2020 at 10am.
The emergence of the melodic indie band from Wigan with heart-quickening live intensity, near-spiritual positive energy and literary influences (Essential listening: Fight On – influenced by tales of the French Resistance) has thrilled those waiting patiently for new heroes of emotive guitar music that means everything. An 18-month journey from playing bars to selling out their first headline tour in just one day, signing to Island Records on the way, made for a breathless first chapter. With the plot warming up to the point of overheating, the next, exciting episode gets underway on even bigger stages.

Following the release of their critically praised single ‘Qué Pasó’ ft. ANGE, Sydney-based producer duo Lamalo have just unveiled the accompanying video clip – directed and edited by Emma Corrigan.
Shot at Woodburn Creatives in Redfern, the clip sees two performers playing out a relationship through interpretive dance. The video uses the same style and location, instead focuses on their separation and the contrast in colours to mirror the song’s themes and lyrics of loss and longing.
Lamalo talk about the inspiration for the clip:
“We shot a lot of the clip in double speed, creating a drawn in effect when slowed down to the original speed. We also had two dancers (Yuli Torres & Orlando Granda Rivera) involved and some movement visuals (Sebastian Garcia) on the backdrop as well as two coloured lights for the set.”
Previous singles have been strongly supported by Spotify and Apple Music, including an entry in the Spotify AU Viral Chart, with their single ‘Outside’ amassing nearly two million streams. They’ve also been widely embraced by Australian radio institutions triple j, triple j Unearthed, FBi Radio and various other community radio stations.
Their tracks have also seen online support from Pilerats, Acid Stag, Purple Sneakers, Discobelle (SWE), Project U, Surviving the Golden Age (USA), The Soundcheck and The Music.

The Lemon Twigs offer another taste of their upcoming album, Songs For The General Public, with fourth single ‘No One Holds You (Closer Than The One You Haven’t Met)’. Released today, the barnstorming 3-minute song covers failed relationships and romantic fantasies, “No one compares to the one that you invented in your head.”
Songs For The General Public will be released on 21 August 2020 and features previous singles ‘Live In Favor Of Tomorrow’, ‘Moon’ and ‘The One’. The D’Addario brothers wrote, recorded and produced the record entirely on tape at their Long Island home studio, Sonora Studios in Los Angeles. Check out the tracks and official videos below.
Brian and Michael D’Addario first emerged as The Lemon Twigs in 2016 with their debut LP Do Hollywood, whose showstopping melodies mined from every era of rock quickly earned fans in Elton John, Questlove, and Jack Antonoff. Go To School, the ambitious 15-track coming-of-age opus, followed in 2018 and solidified the band’s reputation for building grand walls of sound around an audacious concept.
The 12-track album will be released on digitally and on CD, limited translucent red vinyl (indie stores and 4AD Store only) and standard black vinyl.

Sombre and cool, ‘Heavenly Bodies‘ eases into hushed staccato hypnosis while still finding the tenets of guitar-driven rock. The LA-via-Australia duo have always found power in contrast and on ‘Heavenly Bodies’ they balance a driving, expansive sound with an introverted meditation on the preciousness and shortness of life.
They explain the track: “‘Heavenly Bodies’ is the first track on New Signs of Life. We wrote it in a dining room shortly before a tour last August and refined it over those following dates. It focuses on the inevitable truth of mortality in a point-blank manner.”
Death Bells is the longtime musical collaboration between Will Canning and Remy Veselis. Formed in 2015 during their late adolescent years in Sydney, Australia, the act has proven to be a mainstay in the alternative underground musical landscape both in their homeland and overseas during their five-year history. Blurring the lines of post-punk and garage rock, Death Bells has morphed and transformed as the two members have grown up throughout their late teenage years living together into early adulthood. With Canning’s distinctive baritone and the kinetic collection of reverb-drenched leads by Veselis being a constant during their musical output, the two made the permanent move 7,000 miles away to Los Angeles, California in 2018 where the current incarnation of Death Bells has blossomed.
Following the releases of their debut E.P, much-loved first album, and seven-inch single on Funeral Party Records and their 2019 single on Metropolitan Indian, Death Bells have joined the Dais Records family for their highly anticipated sophomore album New Signs of Life. Three years in the making, the release sees the act embrace their diverse tastes to deliver unforgettable hooks and more expansive sounds across its nine graceful songs.
Engineered and mixed under the attentive eye of Colin Knight at Paradise Studios throughout mid-to-late 2019, New Signs of Life is the band’s most complete work to date. Following on from the release of their critically praised single ‘Minimal Stuffing’, Gold Coast-based electronic-dance quartet Tijuana Cartel has just unveiled the accompanying video clip – directed and animated by Carey O’Sullivan of Hot Damn Productions.
The clip showcases a psychedelic wonderland of shapes and colours, flowing to the track’s instrumentation, all captured through the use of a 3D scanner made out of a record player – the kaleidoscope visuals resulting in a mind-bending Synaesthesia of digitally warped music and nature.
Casey talks about the process and inspiration behind ‘the clip:
“Much of the animated stuff comes out of my backyard garden. I’ve had a long-term fascination with recursive forms and patterns that are emerging in nature. We started with a goal to digitally recreate these natural structures for synced visualisations for the live show. However, it became apparent there weren’t any available tools to do the job. So, in true nerd DIY fashion, I decided the only way was to create some. When we finished this track, we knew it was a perfect match for the fruits of the digital nature machine.”
In the live arena, the band have sold out multiple Australian headline tours and played notable events Splendour in the Grass, Falls Festival, Bluesfest, Wollombi Music Festival and Subsonic Music Festival. To coincide with the release, the band have performed in Maroochydore, before finishing the tour in Brisbane in September. This comes off the back of them winning the ‘Live Act of the Year’ award a few months ago at the Gold Coast Music Awards.
Since release the track has been widely embraced by the likes of Indie Shuffle (ZAF), Pilerats, Acid Stag and Forte Magazine, with radio support from triple j, Double J, triple j Unearthed, 4ZZZ, RTR FM, Bay FM and Radio Adelaide. Previous releases have also been supported by Music Feeds, Beat Mag, The Music, The AU Review, FBi, 3RRR, Edge Radio and NOOSA FM.

Los Angeles post hardcore band Touché Amoré will release their fifth studio album,
Lament on October 9. Since their formation in 2007, Touché Amoré has been burrowing through angst, alienation, cancer, and death throughout four adored studio albums. After over a decade of working through darkness, Lament, finds the light at the end of the tunnel. The album arrives as the follow-up to the band’s critically acclaimed 2016 release, Stage Four, which found vocalist Jeremy Bolm mourning and paying tribute to his late mother. Lament shines a light on what life for the band has been like since then, tackling themes of fragility, empathy, politics, and love while pushing forward a newfound sense of hope. Late last year, the band offered a glimpse of Lament with the release of “Deflector,” the first song done with producer Ross Robinson (Slipknot, Korn, At the Drive-In) in an attempt to break out of their comfort zone. The recording process being such a wildly different experience than what the band was used to, challenged them to dig deep within their artistic and emotional depths to level up their abilities to create a record unlike their previous works. Today, the band share the first single from their forthcoming Robinson produced record, “Limelight” which features Andy Hull (Manchester Orchestra, Bad Books). Bolm’s emotionally raw lyrics explore a space in love rarely treaded while guitarist Nick Steinhardt showcases his newly learned pedal steel skills. “When you’re connected to someone long enough, and you’ve both suffered losses and been there for one another, there’s an understanding and a beauty to the quiet moments. There’s a great line in ‘Pulp Fiction’ when Uma Thurman boasts knowing when you’ve found someone really special, when you can just ‘shut the fuck up for a minute, and comfortably share silence’. I imagined that you’d be shamed for casually omitting that a day or two may go by without realizsng you haven’t kissed your partner, but at no point did things feel bad. You’re just in it and it feels like home.” As the crescendo hits, Hull and Bolm are belting out on top of each other, Bolm shouts “So let’s embrace the twilight while burning out the limelight” the message of the song is revealed: The realisation that the limelight may have held promise, but learning the obscurity of twilight is where you belong.

Says Sean of the background behind the track: “In December of 2018, my twin Tommy was found unconscious on the side of the road after a horrific motorcycle accident. The night of the incident, an incredible team of paramedics, nurses and doctors worked tirelessly to bring them back. As I sat in the intensive care unit, I was told that they might not wake up, and I had to contemplate the devastating possibility of losing my other half. This film is a celebration of Tommy’s survival and strength, their queerness, and their community who love and care deeply for them.
The music video, a loving tribute to Tommy, combines the duo’s minimal, slow-burning electronic soul with their eye for atmospheric, emotive cinematography. Ultimately, it’s a meditation on what it means to be free and alive in a body. The visual features Tommy dancing inside Sydney’s Red Rattler Theatre, a space that Sean says “is important to Tommy and to Sydney’s queer community… where Tommy feels safe and comfortable to be wholeheartedly and completely themselves – a place where they found their family, and their identity.” Alone and framed by house lights, Tommy captures the bliss found in these liberatory spaces through the movement of their own body. “After spending months in a wheelchair with a broken back, ribs and pelvis, nerve damage, and brain injury”, Sean concludes, “Tommy can once again move and express themselves freely, and the video celebrates this.”

SOAK – aka Ireland’s Bridie Monds-Watson – has released a new collaboration track and film called ‘I’m Alive’. Conceptualised by Ellius Grace during the height of lockdown, ‘I’m Alive’ is based around a poem written and performed by SOAK with instrumental music created by Gemma Doherty of Saint Sister. It brings together a team of collaborators from across Ireland who worked in isolation to create the track and accompanying short film, many of whom had never met before.
SOAK explains the creation of the piece saying “Ellius Grace reached out to me during the lockdown with this idea of creating an ‘antidote to anxiety’, with the concept centering around finding beauty in the mundane. I sat down in the up and down waves of isolation, when I let my brain go I started to write about how it feels to ‘wake up’ from a long depression. The relief when a tide starts to turn and things I’d given up on begin to seem possible again. Ellius asked Gemma Doherty to compose the soundtrack and she provided a gentle and gripping bed to speak over. I hope this piece can act as a reminder that it won’t always be like this.”
Grace says of his role overseeing the collaboration, “‘I’m Alive’ is a short film about being mindful of the small joys and blessings around you. It’s about slowing down and taking stock of the things that often go unnoticed. It’s about the space you can create in your head when you’re feeling anxious or frustrated with life. With this piece, I hope to create a calming experience and send a message of peace and strength in oneself. I hope to remind you of the beautiful experiences that anyone can have no matter their situation.”
