Refuge NYC is celebrating its first anniversary in September with a month-long programme of special events, bringing together established names and emerging artists from the underground electronic music scene.
Located between East Williamsburg and Bushwick, the 500-capacity venue opened one year ago and will mark the occasion with its Anniversary Season throughout September, culminating in a birthday weekend from 25–27 September.
The programme opens on 5 September with Gabriel & Dresden and continues with a broad selection of electronic music artists, including David Morales, Chris Liebing, Natasha Diggs, Future.666, David Löhlein, Vanjee, Gorje Hewek, Volen Sentir, Rodriguez Jr. Live, The Martinez Brothers, Two Shell, Black Asteroid, Akua, Ahadadream, Coffintexts, Serge Devant, John Dimatteo, Shorty, Deep Dish, Victor Calderone and Brothers Macklovitch, aka A-Trak & Dave 1.
Refuge’s September programme reflects the club’s music-focused approach, with house, techno, trance, progressive and other electronic sounds represented across the month.
The venue has a capacity of 500 and operates without VIP areas or bottle service, placing its focus on the sound system, programming and dancefloor.
Central to the club is its custom-built REX analogue sound system, designed by sound engineer Craig “Shorty” Bernabeu. Refuge says the system has continued to evolve throughout its first year, with bespoke analogue EQs, vintage JBL tweeters and ongoing acoustic improvements. The DJ booth monitoring has also been redesigned, while the venue’s wooden dancefloor is regularly sanded.
The anniversary weekend begins on Friday 25 September with an exclusive open-to-close set from Deep Dish. Saturday 26 September features John Dimatteo and Shorty, before Sunday 27 September closes the celebrations with Victor Calderone at sunrise and Brothers Macklovitch, A-Trak and Dave 1.
The September programme brings Refuge NYC’s first year to a close with a month dedicated to the artists, sound and dancefloor that have defined the venue since opening.
