Eyedress is the alias of Filipino artist, now Los Angeles resident, Idris Vicuña.
Born in 1990 in the city of Makati, Philippines, Vicuña relocated to the US with his family at the age of 6. He was raised in Phoenix, Arizona before moving to San Clemente, California at the age of 13, where he started playing bass in punk bands.
In 2005, Vicuña moved back to Manila where he played in various bands, diving more into the art of sampling and making loops. During this time Vicuña pursued his own solo project which would eventually become Eyedress.
Well received by music blogs, it led to him signing his first record deal with XL Recordings imprint Abeano. Later that year they released his EP “Supernatural” which saw praise from publications such as The Guardian and NME.
In 2017 Eyedress signed a deal with UK label Lex Records (Danger Mouse, Gnarls Barkley) which saw him re-locate back to Los Angeles.
In December of 2019 Eyedress released “Jealous”, the lead single from his 2020 album ‘Let’s Skip To The Wedding’. The track pairs heartbroken lyrics with a driving rhythm and infectious guitar, and highlights his unique ear for melody.
The music video was directed by BRVINFREEZE. The video features Eyedress busking in Venice Beach & skateboarding with Kane The Menace; a perfect fit for the upbeat single.
Jealous’ is a global viral hit, with 100M+ on demand streams, 750k+ daily streams, over 1M TikTok videos with 750M+ views between them. Regarding the song, Eyedress stated: ““Jealous is a song I made about trying not to be possessive. It was also one of the first songs I recorded on my new Japanese Teisco guitar. I was really excited when I first made it because I haven’t had much time to just sit down and come up with a new riff, but that one came to me so easily. It was recorded in my bedroom in Silverlake and the video was filmed by BRVINFREEZE. We filmed on a nice sunny day in Venice beach; basically went out with my bandmate Zahara and skateboarder friend Kane The Menace and just filmed a bunch of clips of us skating around Venice beach along with shots of me and Zahara busking and performing the song live for passers-by.”
