Today, Aminé and KAYTRANADA unveil their second single as KAYTRAMINÉ, ‘Rebuke‘. The single, which was first teased in the closing moments of the Jack Begert-directed ‘4EVA‘ music video, is included on this Friday’s KAYTRAMINÉ album and was featured today on Zane Lowe’s Apple Music 1 show as a World First. LISTEN HERE + PRE-SAVE KAYTRAMINE HERE.

‘Rebuke‘ follows the success of the duo’s debut single, ‘4EVA‘, which was praised by the New York Times for possessing “the irreverence of Leaders of the New School with the sumptuous physicality of A Tribe Called Quest, all delivered at a tempo that triggers a sense of freedom and release.”

The album has been a labor of love spanning nearly a decade with the origins of KAYTRAMINÉ trace back to 2014, when Aminé unveiled ‘Not At All‘, an unofficial remix of KAYTRANADA’s 2013 track ‘At All‘. Impressed by Aminé’s rendition, KAYTRANADA extended a hand to collaborate officially, leading to his production contributions on three songs from Aminé’s 2015 mixtape, Calling Brio. The upcoming album showcases the pair reigniting their innate chemistry, further solidifying their musical bond.

Stay tuned for more from Aminé & KAYTRANADA soon.

As Body Type steady for their upcoming UK and EU tour dates, the group today announce their national album tour, presented by Double J, in support of their second album Expired Candy out June 2 via Poison City Records. BUY TICKETS HERE + PRE-ORDER LP HERE.

Across August, Body Type will be joined by Sweetie and Perfect Actress in Eora / Sydney, Our Carlson and Chimers in Dharawal Land / Port Kembla, Gut Health and Sweetie in Naarm / Melbourne, Platonic Sex and Nakki Soul in Meanjin / Brisbane plus Ash Baroque and Paint in Boorloo / Perth. The band’s live show recently rocked crowds at High Voltage Festival – “Body Type stopped traffic” Rolling Stone‘s review read – alongside supports with The Pixies, Fontaines D.C., Wolf Alice and previously, Big Thief, Cate Le Bon, POND, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Rolling Blackouts Coast Fever, DZ Deathrays, MOD CON.

If Body Type’s debut record Everything Is Dangerous But Nothing’s Surprising was an exuberant and furious declaration of dominion, then their swift follow-up Expired Candy is all about revelling in the space they’ve carved out. It’s sweet, acidic, tough and undeniable all at once, and speaking to the forthcoming release Body Type reveal that “Expired Candy is filled with hope, love, and danger, dancing with delicious uncertainty. In pursuit of joy we dreamed up songs about mothers, sisters, dogs, nans; family tantrums, forward motion, falling in love, platonic or romantic, with someone or self. Heart breaks, tooth will shatter, but she’ll be there when it really matters. Flirty, feral and defiant, just how we like it. From our wild heart to yours, Body Type.”

Including singles in the just released ‘Weekend’ and the Double J playlisted ‘Holding On’ and ‘Miss The World’, Expired Candy is a euphoric, lawless rock record, characterised by unfaltering intensity. Oceanic yearning mixes with sly humour. Guitars spit and swell and slice through harmonies. Moments of elation and bizarre imagery are wrung from the monotony of every day. Vocals knot together, producing ecstatic, slanted melodies. An album about not being so certain that confinement and desolation lead to a dead end. Instead, stagnation may serve as the perfect breeding ground for joyous bewilderment and an inflamed imagination. Like the stale confection of its title, Expired Candy is a blistering listen because of the way it transmutes gloom into resistance.

Their Australian Music Prize-nominated debut album Everything Is Dangerous But Nothing’s Surprising including highlights ‘Buoyancy‘ ‘The Charm’ and ‘Sex & Rage‘ across the 11-track record sought praise far and wide: Rolling Stone, The Guardian, NME, DIY, Frankie Magazine, Clash, Dork, The Line Of Best Fit and more, as well as radio support from all corners of the country landing Album of the Week placements across 2SER, FBi Radio, SYN, Edge Radio and RTR FM and much more. Meghan Patrick Interview

by the partae May 16, 2023
written by the partae

Where are you currently based?

Nashville, TN!

What’s been happening recently?

I’ve been on the road a bunch, got to make my Opry debut, and now just released a new EP!

Your latest EP Greatest Show On Dirt was released on May 5, what influenced the sound and songwriting?

It was really important to me to dig deeper into what “my sound” is. I really just tried to follow my instincts on the sound and production, as well as just letting the band play and do their thing. I didn’t want to micromanage the music, and my producers were great collaborators and leaders in the studio. As far as the songwriting goes just I tried to really peel back some more layers of myself, and be as honest as possible.

What inspired the title track ‘Greatest Show On Dirt’?

My friend Trannie Anderson brought the title to a writers retreat I was on with  her, Jake Mitchell and Matt McGinn. We all immediately thought it was an amazing title, but we weren’t sure what it should be about. My first thought was that greatest show on dirt would have something to do with Rodeo… I used to have a horse but I mainly just drank beer and took her on trail rides so writing a song about the rodeo wouldn’t really be authentic to me. Then we thought about it being more of a throwback to an old flame. Summer love with the guy who had it all, Hollywood looks, all the right lines, and a truck to take you riding around the back roads all summer. Even though it didn’t work out, Looking back on the memory has a very dreamy, cinematic nostalgia to it.

What does this EP mean to you?

This EP represents a new chapter for me. I think these are some of the best and most personal songs I’ve written, and I feel like myself, the band, the songwriters and the producers all brought the music to life in a way that feels authentically “me”.

Please tell us about the accompanying singles film clips, the inspiration and filming process.

I worked with Ford Fairchild for all of the music videos for “Greatest Show On Dirt.” His energy and creativity is so infectious! The video for “She’s No Good For Me” shows me throwing out items from my past as I move into this new version of myself. For the “Ours” video, I had my guitar player play my toxic ex.  This video will also always hold a special place in my heart because it was the day I got the call from Terri Clark to say I was gonna make my Opry debut. The “Greatest Show On Dirt” video shows a mini me and her first love.  It also features my band. For “Red Roses & Red Flags,” I was able to try out my acting skills!

Who are you listening to at the moment?

The Bros. Landreth

What do you like to do away from music?

I love to hunt, fish, cook, play golf, mountain bike and really anything that allows me to spend time outdoors.  I have also gotten into boxing lately.  It is a great workout.

What’s planned for the remainder of 2023?

A lot more new music and a lot of touring!

Favourite food and place to hangout?

I love all food haha. And I’ll hangout wherever there’s cold beer, good music, and no crowds.

DRUID Purge With Lascerating Single ‘HANG IN THERE (IT GETS WORSE)’

by the partae May 14, 2023
written by the partae
Previous support for Druid
‘DTHBLW’ Music Video Premiered via Knotfest
‘DTHBLW’ added to Spotify’s Homegrown and Heavy Playlist

“Druid are re-writing the definition, bringing heaviness to the world in the form of their new breed of nu-metal/metalcore machinations.” (Maniacs)
“Damn, this goes hard! Intensity dialed up and the riffs are searing.”

(Dave Ruby Howe, Triple J Unearthed)

Australian metalcore outfit Druid are armed with their latest single, ‘HANG IN THERE (IT GETS WORSE)’, out on May 12th. Packaged in Druid’s unflinching style, the volatile track is an exploration of mental health issues and the inner struggles that come with them.

Since releasing their debut EP in 2019 and then a stack of singles, Druid has cemented themselves in the Australian heavy scene, sharing the stage with the likes of Void Of Vision, Alpha Wolf, The Beautiful Monument, Suspryia, Earthcaller, Lune, Diamond Construct, and many more.

Now, ‘HANG IN THERE (IT GETS WORSE)’ is Jordan Williams’ – Druid’s co-lead vocalist – reflection of his own experiences with depression and other mental health issues. Paired with his hostile vocal delivery, the song’s lyrics are a brutally honest and a representation of the weight and pressure that come with such struggles – adding to the purging, fiery feel of the track.

Aligning with the song’s dark themes, ‘HANG IN THERE (IT GETS WORSE)’ is an intense and cathartic composition, tied together with lacerating riffs and breakdowns that are unrelenting. While the chrous is a reference to Bring Me The Horizon’s 2008 album ‘Suicide Season’, it also hints that Williams’ mental health issues have been a part of his life since a young age.

Druid’s previous blood-boiling releases have received support from the likes of Triple J (The Racket), Triple M’s Hard and Heavy, Hysteria, and Maniacs, the band also found success featuring on Spotify’s Homegrown and Heavy Playlist.

Furthrmore, their single ‘DTHBLW’ was premiered via Knotfest, which later landed them a spot on Knotfest’s Pulse of the Maggots streaming festival, headlined by Hero The Hero.

With its powerful and honest lyrics, volatile vocals, and explosive energy, this track is a must-hear for fans of heavy music. Druid release ‘HANG IN THERE (IT GETS WORSE)’ on Friday, May 12.

BAD PARTY Deliver Shattering Mix Of Metal And EDM In New Single ‘Want It’

by the partae May 14, 2023
written by the partae

“Monster sound from Bad Party who push this one into overdrive real quick”
4/5 (Dave Ruby Howe, Triple J Unearthed) [About ‘I’ll Be Fine’]

“That verse surges in like a freakin’ tidal wave! Energy and power is off the charts”
4/5 (Abby Butler, Triple J) [About ‘I’ll Be Fine’]

“Possessing a catchy-as-hell chorus, ‘Sinking In’ is both well constructed and avoids any of the standard tropes of modern metalcore, carried mostly by the melodies laid down by frontman Henry Epong.” (Hysteria Mag)

Originating from the Meanjin/Brisbane EDM scene, Bad Party rose from the depth of 2020. A vision to marry metal and EDM, the four-piece have kicked goals and welcome 2023 with their newest single ‘Want It’ and accompanying music video, out May 12.

‘Want It’ teases with a touch of trance-inducing EDM before shattering into hard and fast heavy rock riffs. The single unleashes a barrage of sound that showcases the impressive abilities of the band, with emphatic drums, crushing guitars, and aggressive bass lines all coming together to form a formidable wall of noise.

Explosive and upbeat, Henry Epong’s vocals pack a punch and soar through the cathartic chorus. The intricate drumming and driving guitar riffs are anything but understated, combining to create a powerful and intense listening experience of high-octane energy punctuated with flashes of EDM that add an extra layer of excitement to the mix.

Raw with emotion, ‘Want It’ reflects desire and lust. Consumed with an obsession for someone or something, the grittiness of emotion seeps through the track. Punchy and to the point, the single captures the difficulty of self-reflection on the feeling.

From their first releases ‘Welcome To The Party’ and ‘Run’ in early 2021, Bad Party has gained a passionate following. Dropping their 6-track EP ‘Beyond Repair’ in 2022, the outfit have seen support from Triple J, Triple J Unearthed and Hysteria Mag.

Selling out King Lear’s Throne in Brisbane for their first on-stage performance, the band supported Banks Arcade for their sold-out Brisbane show in February, and performed at AM/PM Emo Night alongside Clay J Gladstone.

Not slowing down, ‘Want It’ (out May 12) is only the first drop of the year for Bad Party.

Chilli Reid Interview

by the partae May 14, 2023
written by the partae
Where are you currently based?
I’m from the South-East, a little town called Baxter on the Mornington Peninsula.

How did you first start playing music?
Growing up I was always surrounded by very musically talented people. Saturdays were studio days in our dying days of high school, we’d make beats, mess around on instruments and make songs to make eachother laugh, it was such a fun time. Covid made it difficult to continue music together, but I still had all the beats still saved on my laptop. After a long battle with mental health, the beats we made became a way of channelling negative energy into something fun and constructive! In 2021, I decided to have a good crack at music and joined Coach Music Academy, did my first live shows, released tracks, collaborated with producers and artist and its been so fun!

What’s been happening recently?
I have a couple singles I’m working on at the moment with my main man Infushia! I have another project with Jeremy Affrin from Urban Seven Visuals coming up soon which should be a bit of fun. Other than that, on that uni grind

Your latest single DIRT! will be out on May 12, what influenced the sound and songwriting?
‘DIRT!’ is a song about navigating the difficulties of a relationship ending. The chorus describes a toxic situation between two people who know it’s over but continue to see each other, leaving them confused and in a fantasy state of false optimism. The verses aim to showcase a person who reflects on the past relationship and person with ‘rose-coloured glasses’ instead of appreciating the highs and lows for what they are. This leads the person to ignore the hardships faced and damage acquired leaving them unwilling to let go of the past. Ultimately they sacrifice themselves to ensure the wellbeing of their past love and the unrealistic future of the relationship. The song title ‘DIRT!’ acts as a running motif through the song. Dirt/ soil is a substance that plants grow from and once their life has ended the same plant will return to the soil. This idea was applied to the song, knowing that the same things that grew from nothing can return to nothing. Whilst situations may make you feel like ‘DIRT!’ It is important to be grateful when you have it good and graceful when you do not because this very feeling of being nothing but ‘DIRT!’ can lead to the growth of something beautiful, like this song

How did you go about writing DIRT!?
Parts of the song come from different time periods. Before, during and after a certain situation in my life. When I was in a sling for 2 months I had a lot of time to reflect and put these different lyrics together. I always envisioned squid putting his vocals on the chorus which took it to the next level! Plus, he absolutely killed his verse!

What does this single mean to you?
The beginning of something new. Its given me the opportunity to put something behind me whilst focussing on the new possibilities and opportunities that are presented to me.

How did the collaboration with Squid The Kid come about?

The first time I played this beat I automatically thought of Squid. I’ve been a fan of his stuff for ages. I actually wrote the hook back in 2020 to his song ‘Winter Time’ and it fit so nicely on the track. Once I figured out the mood of the song I hit him up on instagram one day with the demo and he ended up vibing with it, the rest is history!

Where and when did you record/produce/master and who did you work with?

I recorded this track in a pretty dull time in my life. I was in a sling for about two months which also coincided with issues surrounding relationships, friendships, mental illness and all that fun stuff. As I couldn’t drive or work or anything, I was basically confined to my room for that time, music was something I could focus on and keep sane in a way ahah.

Please tell us about the collab experience:
Sooooooooo fun. I’m super grateful to the squid! Had an absolute blast. My favourite part of the whole project was definitely filming the music video. Big shout out to Jeremy Affrin from Urban Seven Visuals and Luke Thompson for organising the shoot. We basically had a fun day mucking around and shooting clips. We didn’t really have a set plan, we made it up as we went which made it super fun! Part of the video was filmed that night which was me and my best mates 22nd bday party, I was so grateful to share that experience with my nearest and dearest.

Who are you listening to at the moment?

Slowthai. Absolutely in love with his latest album! Definitely in my top 5!

What’s planned for the next 12 months?

Hoping to get a few more singles under my belt, start doing some live gigs and hopefully more collaborations!

Favourite food and place to hangout?

I’m a sucker for Zinger Box. Take out potato and gravy, upsize the chips. In terms of nightlife, either at Gods Kitchen in Mornington or Storyville in the CBD.

by the partae May 14, 2023
written by the partae

LION is set to send shockwaves worldwide with his powerful debut single ‘Not Your Fetish’ (Out May 12). Making a statement with his unapologetic lyrics, hard-hitting beats and dynamic rap, the track has the impact of a lion’s roar. The electric hooks and sassy delivery will ensure you keep hitting repeat.

Accompanying the track is a fierce music video that showcases LION’s artistic world. With commanding choreography and fiery shots, the jaw-dropping video is as bold as LION himself. LION’s creative prowess creates a platform for the voiceless and underrepresented. On the realisation of ‘Not Your Fetish’, LION says:

“As minorities and marginalized people, so many of us have narratives written for us by people who see us as two-dimensional. This song is a condemnation of those toxic narratives. We have the power to write our own stories, and we don’t need to censor or simplify them for anyone. Our stories are messy, complex, nuanced, and we refuse to be reduced to a fetish.”

LION’s mission is to subvert the norm and create a revolution. Music and dance are two sources of potent catharsis for LION, as he combines his passions to express his multifaceted identity. He brings together all the unique elements of his identity and his talents, creating theatrical, rhythmic, and prolific material.

UK-born and steeped in Ethiopian heritage, queer electropop artist LION now hails from Melbourne, Australia. Performing multiple shows and festivals already, including BIGSOUND 2022 and most recently the main stage at World Pride, LION has firmly established his showstopping live presence. Signing to Tomboi Records (representing LGBTQIA+, women and POC) in 2021, LION has developed a signature sound that will be unleashed globally on the 12th of May.

written by the partae
Sail Cassady has released their dynamic new single “Lefty” – and it’s a good ‘un!

With tunes that focus on the key things in life – Sexuality. Mental Health. Consciousness – “Lefty” hits on these themes that run through the music of flamboyant Americana-indie-rockin’ band who hails from Victoria, BC. Like a queer-friendly U2 with a dash of the Pogues, their songs document the torture and delights of the artists own grueling process of self-discovery, and gives you a glimpse into the subterranean realms of the Sail Cassady consciousness.  “Lefty” is a damn gem – ENJOY!

GATTÜSO Returns To Ultra Records and Pays Homage To True Friendship On “Out Of My Mind,” Featuring Jalja

by the partae May 14, 2023
written by the partae

Artists: GATTÜSO
Title: Out Of My Mind feat. Jalja
Label: Ultra Records

Download / Stream

NYC-based GATTÜSO is back on Ultra Records with his new single “Out Of My Mind,” a dark blend of house and melodic techno featuring UK singer-songwriter Jalja. The track combines Jalja‘s sultry, soulful vocals with deep, driving basslines and emotive melodies, making for an emotive and yet dancefloor-friendly release. With the lyrics about tough times in finding a partner and going back to a close friend that understands you, “Out Of My Mind” will appeal to anyone who struggles with a bad relationship or is going through other personal hurdles, but on the other hand, sonically also feels right at home for a late-night groove at an underground club. It marks the Israeli-born producer’s second single release this year as it follows his “Feel Your Love” with Navos from March.

GATTÜSO

Appearing 4 times on the Billboard Dance Radio chart, his songs have been streamed over 500 million times on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon, and Deezer as well as released on Armada, Enhanced Music, Spinnin’ Records, Future House Music, Ultra Records. GATTÜSO‘s collaboration with Disco Killerz, “Million Things,” topped the Billboard Dance Radio Airplay and Mediabase charts, was the #1 EDM song of the week on Music Choice, and named by Sirius XM “BPM Breaker.” Capitalizing on a great upward momentum, his follow-up “When In Rome” again rose to the top of the charts. In April 2020, his debut release on Ultra Records, “Walk On Water,” feat. Kat Nestel charted Top 40 on both industry charts, Billboard Dance Radio and Mediabase. GATTÜSO‘s first release of 2022, “Afterglow,” with Nicky Romero and Jared Lee, also rapidly climbed to the top of the US dance radio charts. His collaboration with R3HAB, “Creep,” was the first official Mint Single in the exclusive Spotify single series, was featured on 40 New Music Friday playlist around the world, and has been streamed well over 100 million times to date. He has extensively toured throughout North America, including clubs and main stages at festivals such as Lavo Nightclub, Escapade, Chasing Summer, Countdown Orlando, Art Cars of EDC Las Vegas, and Electric Zoo, to name only a few. He also performed at the opening of Miami‘s newest nightclub – M2, during Miami Music Week 2023 and is currently a resident artist at Atlantic City‘s HQ2 club.

Berlin-based LOVRA new may be a new name for some, but this talented female artist serves up some serious, old-school house and techno on her just-released “The House of House” EP. “HoH” is an ode to LOVRA‘s favorite time period music – the 90s and 00s electronic rave scene. Each of the three brand new tracks features elements of the era that made it so iconic–from the title track’s energetic, dynamic tech-house that’s just made for the dance floor to “Sonic“‘s groovy and complex vibes, featuring a sample from an iconic rave track from 1997 – “Members Of Mayday – Sonic Empire,” to “Do What You Do“‘s driving bassline with Detroit-inspired vocal riffs. No matter which one you hit play on, LOVRA‘s simultaneously sophisticated and catchy production style will have you on the dancefloor in no time. Read on below for what the artist herself had to say about the nostalgic project:

“Each track is a reflection of my passion for the 90s and 00s electronic rave scene. This EP is a nostalgic tribute to the era with iconic sounds and grooves that come straight from the bottom of my heart. I hope these tracks will touch and connect with people on the dance floor and create new memories together. Additionally, I’m grateful to Repopulate Mars for their support in bringing this EP to life and hope that it will become a staple in the playlists of electronic music fans worldwide.” – LOVRA

LOVRA is a talented and unique girl from Berlin, traveling the globe as an internationally requested DJ as well as a successful producer. By combining her passion for Music from the 80s and 90s with her natural sense for modern melodies, danceable house beats, striking vocals and rolling basslines, LOVRA creates her very own distinctive sound and enchants the crowds of today’s major festivals. In the past years, LOVRA has played at Tomorrowland, Parookaville, Melt!, World Club Dome, Helene Beach, Nature One, Beats for Love, Sea You, Electrisize, Panama, Magnetic, Ikarus, Love Sea, and Artlake, to name only a few. LOVRA had an official residency at David Guetta‘s BIG party in Ibiza for two years in a row, playing every Monday at the world’s famous Ushuaia. Further, as a member of the Ministry of Sound roster for over six years now, LOVRA has already played the MoS clubs all over the world, such as Greece, Singapore, Bangkok, Dubai, or London. She has played support for legendary acts like Claptone, Sonny Fodera, Lee Foss, Dom Dolla, Armand Van Helden, Basement Jaxx, Todd Terry, Felix da Housecat, and many more. In 2019, she even played support for David Guetta on his tour through Europe. She used the “Corona break” to develop musically and has now opened her way into the Techhouse scene. Now, 2023, will be a very excited year with strong releases on labels like Repopulate Mars, Solotoko, Cr2 and Perfect Havoc, so 2023 is going to be a big year with a lot of things happening.

Henri-Julien

by the partae May 14, 2023
written by the partae
Henri Julien is a Canadian singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. He has released 2 studio EPs and multiple collaborative albums with other artists. His debut EP, Solace, was released in 2016 as a collaborative project with producer Will Bennett, leading to the formation of the folk-rock band Aquarius Dreams. The group released a second EP in 2019 titled “Flora’s Earthtones” shortly before disbanding in early 2020. Since then, Henri began writing on his first solo record Fonder with Time, set to be released in 2023.

Henri was born in southwestern Ontario, and his indie folk song-writing draws heavily from his Canadian roots. In particular, the tracks from his album “fonder with time” reflect on his childhood spent in rural Ontario and the nostalgia it brings. The title alludes to the idea that it is only with the passing of time that experiences can be properly contextualized and imbued with meaning, and that the present moment can never be fully understood and appreciated until it has passed.

Henri currently resides in Barcelona, Spain, from where he is launching fonder with time, along with a series of music videos. He has already started creating new music and experimenting with film to better communicate his stories. He views the city as the ideal place for inspiration and creativity and is looking forward to discovering new ideas as he continues to explore the culture and the people around him.

“While riffing on a finger-picking pattern on the guitar, I was lulled into this vision of sitting on the banks of a large basin of water. Not a specific memory, but something that felt incredibly familiar. Some Canadian landscape: a mix of the great lakes, Georgian Bay, the Bay of Fundy; places that my parents had taken me when I was young. I was struck by the feeling that, at the time, I had never really appreciated the moment the way I feel that I would now. Funny how that works. We feel that with the extra context of the moment having passed, maybe now knowing that that was the last time we would ever go there, or the last time we would travel with our family, or the last time we would get the chance to be that age, to be at that point in our life, it becomes so much more alluring than experiencing the moment itself. The song evolved from a contemplation on the desire we have to possess the wisdom of the present in the past, to an acceptance of the passage of time and how every moment brings with it new context and beauty. That the thing we call longing is not really a desire to return to the past, but an appreciation for what we now know and the ability that gives us to now impart meaning on our past.” – Henri-Julien

Cymbol ‘About a Girl’ feat. Cameron Louw & This Pale Fire

by the partae May 14, 2023
written by the partae

Australian-based Kiwi producer Shivnesh Sumer, better known as Cymbol, has released his latest single, “About a Girl.” The track is a romantic masterstroke, combining lush instrumentation with soulful vocals, in a truly stirring measure.

The track begins with muted acoustic strums and delicate electric guitar plucks, creating a sense of intimacy and longing. As the song progresses, the beat builds, adding layers of complexity and texture. The vocals, shared between Cameron Louw and This Pale Fire, are both passionate and vulnerable, conveying a detailed range of emotions that come with infatuation.

“About a Girl” is a reminder of the power of love, and the beauty that can be found in even the simplest moments. It’s also typical of Cymbol’s talent as a producer and songwriter. Less clubby than his previous tunes, this one leans hard on the feels.

“About a Girl” is also a beacon for Cymbol’s upcoming album, Distractions. The album is expected to be released later this year, and it is sure to be a major statement from the young producer. This latest track has shown that Cymbol is capable of creating music that is both sonically stunning and emotionally resonant. If you’re touched by nostalgic expression and smooth production, there’s a good chance “About a Girl” will stay with you long after you’ve heard it.

Caelwhip Interview

by the partae May 12, 2023
written by the partae

Where are you currently based?

I’m currently based In Coolum on the Sunny Coast. I’ve been here my whole life so there’s no place like home.

Please tell us about how your music career started out:

During the COVID lockdowns of 2020, as tough as they were, a lot was starting to boil in terms of music and creativity with the likes of The Terry’s, local band Shen Panthers and CaelWhip and Nix all created around the same time

It was here that Nixy and I started hanging out in the sand dunes of Ybar, freestyling over a campfire. It was never anything serious; just a bit of fun. Definitely a good foundation to be built off and an attitude that’s carried through my recent career.

What’s been happening recently?

I’ve just spent the last 6 Months living and working in Sydney (shoutout Parra). However while I’ve been away I’ve been scheming and planning for my comeback to music which I’m in the midst of now. I have a solid plan and rollout scheduled and I’m excited to see what that can do for me.

Your latest single ‘2 Bucks A Litre’ is out now, what influenced the sound and songwriting?

When you first start rapping I think everyone feels some sort of pressure to be a particular person or rap in a certain way.

2 Bucks a Litre for me is just taking a step back from how I’d usually create and structure a song and just creating a track 4 bars at a time and doing what would sound best next rather than a standard hook to verse to hook to verse etc.

How did you go about writing 2 Bucks A Litre?

Frustrated one day I just spilt my emotions onto this beat and my upcoming release all in one sitting. I just started yelling “2 Bucks a Litre I’m trying to keep up” and thought that was entertaining and grasping.

Where and when did you record/produce/master and who with?

In my home studio in Valdora probably over a year ago now, it was around the time fuel prices first hit $2 bucks a litre. (who would have thought)

What does this single mean to you?

2 Bucks a Litre for me is my comeback after a working hiatus and the focussed aggression I’m bringing into this chapter of my life. It’s my proof to everyone of my eagerness and passion in Hip Hop.

Who are you listening to at the moment?

To be honest I’m really on a bit of a Jazz Hop roll at the moment. A lot of new artists I haven’t really thought much of before like Cise Star and Kofi Stone, but also some OG’s like Baby Keem and a bit of Fred Again…

What’s planned for the remainder of 2023?

Like I said earlier, I’ve got a strategic release rollout for the remainder of the year, keep cranking out live shows, and create more great music… This is a first announced exclusive but I’m currently in the midst of putting together a collaborative project/EP with my homie Notorious Nix so stay tuned for that in the near future.

Favourite food and place to hangout?

I’ve been really loving Brown Rice in P Springs forever so they deserve all the love and recognition. Best Japanese on the coast!

KROOKED KINGS offer new album ‘ALL OUT OF GOOD DAYS’

by the partae May 11, 2023
written by the partae

Following a busy SXSW and a sold out West Coast tour all before their new album on the way (produced by surf darling Day Wave), Salt Lake City based indie rock quintet Krooked Kings continue to build the rising fervor around them with the reveal of new LP, ‘All Out of Good Days’.

A vibrant indie-pop cut showcasing energetic vocals atop driving guitars, the project is another testament as to why this group are grabbing attention and continue to find themselves on Spotify viral charts round the world.

“We’re just five guys from Utah writing about what we know – hoping it’ll help us figure things out a little more along the way. This album is about the weird time in life between college and the rest of your life and how utterly confusing, depressing, and enjoyable it can be”  Krooked Kings

A grass roots band who were raised in the Mormon faith before taking the decision to walk away from the religion and embrace music, Krooked Kings are a unique band with a unique story. They plan to announce a 42 date North American tour as well as international dates shortly following the release of their album.

Having built a reputation as a highly regarded underground band in the US, Krooked Kings have spent the past months in the studio with critically acclaimed artist Day Wave recording their upcoming new album.

Krooked Kings come from humble beginnings. In 2019, a group of five college friends from the University of Utah came together to write music and play shows in backyards and basements. Over the course of the last few years, the band has proven time and again their ability to write heartfelt indie rock gems. After signing with Los Angeles based indie label Nobody Gets It Records in 2020, the band released their breakout single, “‘96 Subaru”, which has amassed over three million streams. By September 23, 2021, Krooked Kings released their debut project, The Comedown which saw “Bird Scooter” break out to nearly 5 million streams,. After the release, Krooked Kings hit the road on two support tours with Goth Babe and Rare Americans, as well as a sold out headline run through half of North America, including New York City. .

PRAISE

“Krooked Kings’ new single is a feat of artistic excellence. The band’s easy-going surf-rock influences diffuse into the track, making for a slightly sedative listen – which is juxtaposed by its anxiety-inducing subject matter.” Wonderland Magazine

“ “Carbon Monoxide” possesses all of the indie rock qualities we know and love so well. Laid-back and latent percussion reminiscent of surf-rock, punchy and memorable bass lines galore, “Carbon Monoxide” is one of those tracks you can vividly picture yourself listening to on any given day” Sheesh Media

“US outfit channel a wonderfully sweet and sweeping atmosphere for this dreamy indie-rock gem”

Mystic Sons

“Their latest song, “Carbon Monoxide”, is a poignant, airy collaboration with critically acclaimed indie artist Day Wave” Earmilk
