Where are you currently based?
We’re based out of London Ontario! Phil is a London native, Jordan comes from Oakville originally, and Melvin came from Cambridge!
How did Texas King form?
We met in college at Fanshawe in London. In the Music Industry Arts program. We recorded our first EP there in the studio facilities provided and as soon as we graduated we immediately hit the road touring almost every weekend!
What’s been happening recently?
We just finished our Whatever You Break tour across Canada in a headline role. It was awesome! Seeing our song “Whatever You Break” climb the charts while crossing the country and playing in the radio markets that people are listening in was wild! Now we are working on our full length record due 2024!
Your new EP Capsize is out on July 7, 2023, what influenced the sound and songwriting?
As usual, real life experience and trying to dissolve some of the stigma around mental health and the behaviours that come as a result of it. It’s a hands up admittance of defeat saying.. I messed up.. the boat is flipped over… what are we gunna do next.. a crucial time decision time.
How did you go about writing Capsize?
Voice notes and demos at home first. Usually starts on a guitar or a piano and then we build it up together as a band in demo land over in melly’s basement and then we record.. a lot of the magic happens in studio.
Where and when did you record/produce/master and who did you work with?
We recorded at Bath House studio in Kingston with brian moncarz and we recorded at Noble Street Studio in Toronto with Peter Van Hel Voort and Matt Snell.
What does this EP mean to you?
I think it’s our best yet.. I’m excited as hell for everyone to hear it all together. It was a labour of love we slogged it out we grew like crazy over the course of writing this and making it.. it will always hold a special place in my heart.
What do you have planned for this EP?
Right now our next plan with it is just to put it out… so I guess we plan to release it right now but long term just want to reach as many new ears as possible .
Any upcoming shows? We have an upcoming show in Bala, ON on August 19th opening for The Trews.
Who are you listening to at the moment?
Miley Cyrus, Dijon, Haim, and Foals!
What’s planned for the remainder of 2023?
Festival season, some shows in the states, and then heading across the pond to play some UK dates! Very excited!
Favourite food and place to hangout?
Trinidadian Roti (chicken or goat) spicy with a cold beer on a park bench on a nice sunny day.. any city.. any day.. that’s the life… that’s what i’m talking about baby yea!
