WOLF & CUB NIL album tour dates announced!

Praise for NIL

“Plays like a highlight reel of what they do best: brooding guitar riffs, agile rhythm section, palpable mood swings and effects-shrouded vocals from leader Joel Byrne.” – NME, ★★★★

“A mighty return to form.” – Rolling Stone

“A solid, pulsing slice of noisy rock that makes us feel like they’d never left.” – Double J

“Released from the burden of expectation, that theme of acceptance combined with rapid stickwork, howling guitars and driving bass lines means ‘NIL’ goes close to Wolf & Cub’s best work to date.” – AU Review

“Though Wolf & Cub’s tunes retain some of their magic once recorded, you can’t replace the energy and sheer forcefulness they generate in a live setting.” – The Music

“The bearded boys are back, sounding darker and heavier than ever” – Grass FIres

Wolf & Cub are excited to finally announce an Australian tour to celebrate the release of their acclaimed fourth album NIL. The band has not undertaken a national tour since 2014, these upcoming dates marking the first official shows in support of NIL since its release in November 2020. In addition to gigs in Melbourne and Sydney, the band will be performing a very special immersive art show at the newly launched art space The Lab in their home-town of Adelaide. The Lab is a 300-capacity live music venue located within the new West End arts hub Light, and boasts a performance space lined with 50sqm of LED video screens. The audio-visual setup will allow the band to incorporate immersive visuals into their set which they’ll be designing together will local visual artist, Ryan Sahb whom the band has collaborated with on previous live shows. Tickets for all shows are available now via http://wolfandcub.com/shows

Wolf & Cub guitarist/front man Joel Byrne says of the upcoming shows, “Releasing our fourth album last November in the middle of a global pandemic meant that for obvious reasons we weren’t able to play any launch shows, which for us was like having our wings clipped. ‘NIL’ was recorded so we could play it live so not being able to tour it has kind of made the release feel a little… incomplete. As you can imagine we’re beyond excited to finally be bringing it to life on stage”.

Featuring the dark and abrasive first single ‘Blue State’ & searing second single ‘Close to the Edge’, NIL is Wolf & Cub‘s first long-form release since 2013’s Heavy Weight. Where Heavy Weight hinted at the band’s ability to traverse tougher terrain, NIL sees the band gravitate away from previous psych-rock offerings in favour of a masterful and revelatory heaviness.

Produced by the band and released on bandleader Joel Byrne’s own label Part Time Records, NIL was recorded in Sydney at a variety of locations across a protracted timeframe. The album is crushing in its intensity as Wolf & Cub embrace the freedom that comes with starting again and the confidence that comes from experience. “My measurement for Wolf & Cub’s success in my late-thirties is significantly different from what it was at the beginning of our career,” says Byrne. “There’s no burden of expectation here.”

KARNIVOOL CANCEL ‘THE DECADE OF SOUND AWAKE’ NATIONAL TOUR LIVE STREAM EVENT COMING SOON

by the partae February 25, 2021
written by the partae

Karnivool have regrettably cancelled all shows outside of Western Australia on their scheduled national tour. The Decade of Sound Awake Tour will be replaced by a ticketed live stream event, with details to be announced soon.

STATEMENT FROM KARNIVOOL:

We are sick to our stomachs to announce all Decade of Sound Awake shows outside of Western Australia have to be cancelled.

When we were forced to move the tour for a second time, we were optimistic that shows would be able to proceed normally, safely and in the way we had envisioned them. With further rounds of border closures, limited capacities and other show restrictions it is clearly, regrettably, no longer viable to put on the events we want and you deserve for holding onto your ticket for all this time!

This album means so much to us and the tour warrants full production, epic visuals and sweaty singalongs, things that just cannot happen in the middle of a pandemic. Believe us, we have looked at more options than an Aldi shopper.

The sold out Fremantle shows can and will happen, albeit in a slightly altered format on March 12 & 13.

In response to cancelling the East Coast shows, we are going to be presenting a live stream event of the Decade of Sound Awake which means folks in the rest of the world will get to see the show as well.

For everyone at the East Coast shows, your ticket agency will be in contact with your refunds.

Live stream tickets will go on sale soon.

Please accept our unreserved and heartfelt apology we could not make this tour possible, we honestly tried everything we could and hope to make it up to everyone in the future

Until then, stay safe and stay well.

Karnivool’s Sound Awake captured a moment in time when circumstance, influence and individuals collided, restructured and, with a lot of time, pain and joy became elevated above the sum of the parts. A decade and platinum sales have passed the landmark moment in the career of this band who have always gone their own way – meandered when they could have rushed, explored a sonic roadmap forward, then sideways, then backwards. And then forward again.

Sound Awake is an album heavily informed by the art and science of Cymatics and questioning of an ever changing world. From the structured rage of ‘Set Fire to the Hive’, the monster riffing of ‘Goliath’ and the single that was never a single ‘New Day’, Sound Awake is a record full of fan favourites that Kenny, Drew, Hoss, Steve and Jon see as their benchmark.

Attaining worldwide success over this last decade, it launched Karnivool to an intensely loyal, passionate audience that lifted them from an opening act with some interesting tuning to international festival headline act with, well, more interesting tuning in more interesting places… Youngstown, Istanbul, Glasgow, Helsinki, Pune, Bratislava, Auckland, Cape Town, Moscow, Wiesbaden and some place they were told was Chicago, but clearly wasn’t.

Insight at these unique events comes from professionals with years of experience including Anthony Rose founder of Seedlegals, Jon Salmon from Byte Entertainment, Chef Andrew Clarke, Sky Fitness Presenter Marvin Ambrosius, Manchester United Women’s Footballer Jess Sigsworth, Dan J Lee who is GM at No Copyright Sounds, Hope Virgo, Dump The Scale campaigner, author of Stand Tall Little Girl and eating disorder mental health campaigner, Jenni Cochrane CEO & Co-Founder of mental health and wellbeing non-profit Getahead, Julie Weir – Label Head at Music For Nations, Sony Music, musicians Laura Fowes & Ben Santiago, Mike Kill, CEO of Night Time Industries Association, Rob Stephenson, Founder of InsideOut Leaderboard and CEO of Formscore, Consultant Dietitian and Nutritionist Ro Huntriss, Robbie Murch from Facebook’s Identification of Music group, Emma Marshall, a Holistic Health Consultant, Chevy Rough, the Wellbeing and Performance Coach, DJ Pete Gooding, Scott Morrison, Founder at The Boom, Liam Norval, Founder at Posh Cockney and Co-Founder of Hospitality Titans, Pete Warden – Hospitality Director, LXA / Co- Founder Hospitality Titans, Mint Club resident Bobby O’Donnell, Data Transmission’s Grahame Farmer, Alex Jukes from Jukebox PR, Music Journalist Sean Griffiths, DJ Mag Tech Editor Declan McGlynn, Dazed’s Charlotte Cliffers, Tristan Hunt from Association of Electronic Music, Futurebound Owner’s & founders of Viper Records and many more to be announced over the next week.

Feeling isolated and lonely is a stress factor that poses a health risk comparable to smoking, alcoholism, or obesity. This is where Firestarters steps in. Humans are inherently social animals, who suffer when cut off from communities and the subtle sources of happiness they bring.  Firestarters’ aim is to connect strangers and ignite conversation fueled by shared passion, interests and goals to bring about a positive change.
Expect to hear from experts picking through topics like “the future of live events” to “kick-starting a business”. There will be opportunities to put your questions and opinions to the experts as well as discuss the events of the day with other people tuning in. There will also be select spaces for group mentoring sessions with some of the experts that will be speaking during the Firestarters event.
URfeed is a video conversation platform that provides a place for groups of people to connect for ‘face to face’ conversation and its unique video messaging system lets people take part in multiple group conversations, without the need to have everyone online at the same time. People can drop in, watch what others are saying and ask questions or say their piece when it’s convenient for them.
Gareth Ingham, URfeed CEO, says, “URfeed is on a mission to bring people together around their passions, interests and goals… enabling people to grow a knowledge network. We are excited that URfeed will help people come together and talk to new people ‘face to face’ in a bid to beat loneliness and it’s great we are able to support these two charities.”
Many of the fundraising channels that charities rely on have been taken away. As such, every video posted in “Firestarters” will carry a donate button so viewers can donate directly from the app to UK Youth and Rethink Mental Illness.
Everyone can get involved with this free virtual event. Simply sign up – for free – to discover talks and discussions that match your passions, interests and goals. What’s more, if you have a great idea, you can submit a talk, discussion, or interview that you would like to be scheduled at Firestarters by registering online, and of course you can  start an impromptu conversation any time.

Julia Stone announced for Portsea Hotel, signalling revival of live music for regional Victoria

by the partae February 23, 2021
written by the partae

Australia’s indie-folk darling Julia Stone will be bringing her soulful tunes to the Mornington Peninsula on Labour Day long weekend with Portsea Hotel announcing the singer-songwriter’s performance for Sunday, March 7.

A casualty of Melbourne’s snap five-day lockdown, the rescheduled show is ‘take two’ on the revival of live music within regional Victoria, with Portsea Hotel set to release a stellar lineup of acts over the coming months.

Portsea Hotel General Manager Felicity Muller said Australian musicians will play a pivotal role in reigniting the entertainment industry and boosting regional economies as international acts remain off the cards for the foreseeable future.

“Following the extended shutdown of hospitality venues last year, we’re gearing up for an eventful year full of live music and entertainment and what better way to kickstart it than with the much-loved Julia Stone.

“We have such talented artists within Australia and we’re excited to be able to spotlight both established and emerging talent at Portsea Hotel,” she said.

Presented by local brewery Colonial Brewing Co, the show coincides with the upcoming launch of Julia Stone’s new album, Sixty Summers.

Following the debut of Unreal, Break and Dance in 2020, a broody and smooth track featuring that video clip starring Danny Glover and Susan Sarandon, Julia Stone’s latest album marks her first solo record since she dropped By the Horns in 2014.

No longer content to merely explore the wildernesses of folk and indie-rock, Sixty Summers, Stone’s third solo outing, finds the celebrated songwriter diving headfirst into the cosmopolitan, hedonistic world of late-night, moonlit pop.

Tickets are available to purchase via

https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/julia-stone-presented-by-colonial-brewing-co-at-portsea-hotel-tickets-138202115247 with each ticket purchased to receive a free Colonial Brewing Co can.

Those who had purchased tickets to the original show have automatically been transferred to the new date.

Award-winning mental health music charity Listen Up Music will host 12 artists during a day festival at Brisbane’s West Room on the 10th of April.

The award-winning mental health music charity Listen Up Music is announcing Torch Fest Brisbane, a full-day festival on the 10th of April at the West Room featuring 12 radiant Queensland artists and bands.

Torch Fest is their inaugural, first of its kind, mental health music festival shining a light on inspirational artists and their stories.

Lighting things up, the line-up for this special day festival include Tia Gostelow, DOOLIE, ELEEA, Jordan Merrick, Leonie Kingdom, Genes, Ella Fence and more.

With mental health having such a huge impact on the music industry, especially in recent COVID times, the festival is a chance to eradicate the stigma associated with talking about mental health, while retaining the essence of fun and celebration. Ali Taylor the co-founder of Listen Up Music states:

“Torch Fest has been an idea that I have had for some time now, and it feels right to be launching it at a time when connection and community are so very important. COVID-19 has had an enormous impact on communities all across the country, and the idea of music being something to get you through, coupled with the huge importance to artists of being able to perform live, it’s a no brainer.”

All performers on the day will perform a Torch Song as part of their full set. The festival will distribute battery-powered torches to each attendee to flick on when each of the Torch Songs are played throughout the day, creating a stunning atmosphere.

Florian Picasso lit up Pablo Picasso’s atelier combining two artistic worlds in an exclusive livestream with artist Cyril Kongo

The astonishing show caught the attention of millions worldwide all while Florian and Cyril supported an orphanage in Vietnam

Cannes, 20 February – On Saturday February 20th, Florian Picasso brought the world a unique experience, performing from the living room of the Picasso ‘Villa Californie’ in Cannes which was transformed back into Pablo’s Atelier for one night only. The mesmerising location, countless artworks combined with the dynamic of the artists and stunning visuals, exceeded all expectations. Florian brought Pablo’s atelier to life with music and art, delighting millions of people around the world.

Spending his time between Geneva and Cannes, the house, which used to belong to his great-grandfather Pablo, is an exceptional place of inspiration for Florian who produces most of his music there. For this occasion only, the room was transformed back to its original state to resemble what it used to look like when Pablo was working there, filled with paintings, sketches, and sculptures. During Florian’s set, artist and graffiti pioneer Cyril Kongo brought a sensational extra dimension to the show by painting several artworks beside him. To make the show even more memorable, Kongo painted a CDJ 3000 donated by Pioneer DJ, creating a one of a kind piece.

“It was such a blessing to be able to serve a good cause and give back to my roots by combining music and art” says Florian.

Both being of Vietnamese origin, the two artists decided to auction all the pieces Cyril created during this special show and to donate all the proceeds to an orphanage in Vietnam. This was made possible in collaboration with Maria Bravo and Eva Longoria’s Global Gift Foundation.

About Florian Picasso

Picasso is no stage name; Florian is the great-grandson of the mighty Pablo, adopted by the Picasso family after being born in Vietnam. He’s synonymous with a high-octane style of EDM that focuses on larger-than-life, unrelenting riffs and raw textures and is squarely focused on the dancefloor. Florian Picasso is a powerhouse in the world of dance music and has recently signed to Universal Music. Releasing ‘Like You Do’ ft Gashi & Ally Brooke on Universal and ‘Restart Your Heart’ with GRX on STMPD RCRDS, Florian proves that he really is capable of anything. Recently taking livestreams to the next level with his incredibly well-crafted productions and out-of-this-world light shows, Florian definitely still has a lot to share with the world.

About Cyril Kongo

Urban artist above all, Kongo is part of the first generation of French graffiti artists. Committed and revolutionary he was instrumental in defending graffiti as a school of fully-fledged art. Indeed when the painter talks about his discipline he evokes its technical and visual complexity and he describes it as a “savoir-faire”. Calligraphic abstraction, fluid lines and spontaneity allied with a committed and clear purpose made him an unprecedented artist. Cyril Kongo is mastering his urban vocabulary in order to achieve his vision. He is trying to highlight the cultural richness from the ancient technics throughout his own knowledge.

Arts Centre Melbourne is excited to announce that the break-out musical FANGIRLS, from award-winning playwright Yve Blake will make its Melbourne debut at the Playhouse Theatre from 28 April - 9 May as a part of a national tour. This energetic musical will be showing in Melbourne for the first time following sell-out crowds for Belvoir’s season at the Seymour Centre. “We've been dreaming of coming to Melbourne for years. When we premiered in 2019, some industrious teens started a petition to bring the show to Melbourne and I'm so happy that we can finally deliver on that wish,” says the creator of FANGIRLS - Yve Blake. “Even though this show is called FANGIRLS, it's not just about fans or girls. It's a show for anyone that has felt the sweet torture of a first crush, or who knows what it's like to be obsessed with something that isn't 'cool'.” The prolonged intermission between shows at the Playhouse Theatre will add an extra element to this performance, mirroring the excitement around the show as Arts Centre Melbourne create offerings for audiences to embrace the arts once again. “It’s incredible to have FANGIRLS as a part of our re-opening of the Theatres Building at Arts Centre Melbourne. This has been made possible thanks to the generous support of all those who donated to our Recovery Appeal,” says Arts Centre Melbourne’s Creative Producer, Theatre & Contemporary Performance – Daniel Clarke.   FANGIRLS  follows the uproarious story of Edna, a plucky misfit scholarship girl who believes that she alone can win the heart of the world’s biggest pop star: Harry. Sure, he has 38 million other fans, but for Edna, that’s merely a hurdle. Because there’s nothing she won’t do to prove to Harry that she’s the one. With a dazzling cast including AYDAN from The Voice, Danielle Barnes, Chika Ikogwe, Shubshri Kandiah, Ayesha Madon, James Majoos, Karis Oka, Tomáš Kantor and Shannen Alyce Quan, this critically acclaimed show is captivating and will leave you wanting more. This show is founded in Blake’s fascination for the way that society can see a mob of screaming fans as “embarrassing” if they’re female and at a pop concert, but “passionate” if they’re male and at a footy match. She set out to write the show she wished her 14-year-old self could have seen: a comedy all about the ways that the world tries to convince young women that they’re not as worthy as their brothers. “The response from audiences so far has been unreal. I'm so shook by all the fan art, the memes, and the crafts! I've seen people bring handmade signs like it's a pop concert, and even make custom jewellery,” says Blake. “People should see this show because it's a love letter to the awkward teenagers that we have all been, and also it's the perfect antidote to 2020. This show was designed to feel and sound like a thrilling pop concert, and after a year of no concerts, it really does hit differently.” Yve Blake is a decorated performer and playwright, awarded with the Inaugural Rebel Wilson Theatre Maker Scholarship (2016) and has been widely recognised for FANGIRLS with the Sydney Theatre Award for Best Mainstage Musical (2019), Matilda Award for Best Musical or Cabaret (2019) and AWQGI AWARD for Music Theatre (2020). “Even though this show is called FANGIRLS, it’s not just about fans or girls. It’s a show for anyone that has felt the sweet torture of a first crush, or who knows what it’s like to be obsessed with something that isn’t ‘cool’.”

The prolonged intermission between shows at the Playhouse Theatre will add an extra element to this performance, mirroring the excitement around the show as Arts Centre Melbourne create offerings for audiences to embrace the arts once again.

I’m so shook by all the fan art, the memes, and the crafts! I’ve seen people bring handmade signs like it’s a pop concert, and even make custom jewellery,” says Blake.

“People should see this show because it’s a love letter to the awkward teenagers that we have all been, and also it’s the perfect antidote to 2020. This show was designed to feel and sound like a thrilling pop concert, and after a year of no concerts, it really does hit differently.”

Yve Blake is a decorated performer and playwright, awarded with the Inaugural Rebel Wilson Theatre Maker Scholarship (2016) and has been widely recognised for FANGIRLS with the Sydney Theatre Award for Best Mainstage Musical (2019), Matilda Award for Best Musical or Cabaret (2019) and AWQGI AWARD for Music Theatre (2020).

THE RUBENS FOURTH ALBUM 0202 DEBUTS AT #1 ON THE ARIA ALBUM CHART!

by the partae February 22, 2021
written by the partae
  • This is The Rubens’ first #1 album!
  • Over their career to date The Rubens have 7 singles that have surpassed Gold status + a Gold and Platinum album
  • 0202 – a forward thinking album for a backwards year is the band’s first self-engineered and produced album
  • The album features singles ‘Live In Life’, ‘Heavy Weather’, ‘Time of My Life’ and current single ‘Masterpiece’
  • First single ‘Live In Life’ was nominated for ARIA Song of the Year, was the 4th biggest Australian song of 2020 & is now certified Double Platinum with over 40 million streams
  • Their 0202 album tour through April-Jul this year will be their biggest Australian headline tour to date
Ivy League Records are incredibly proud to announce that 0202 – the exceptional new album by local legends, The Rubens – has debuted at #1 on the ARIA Album Chart! This achievement made even sweeter as it crowns the band’s 4th studio album and marks their first #1 record in their decade-long career. Proving to be more relevant now than ever, The Rubens boundary pushing album 0202 sees the band behind the production desk for the first time and features hit singles ‘Live In Life’ (double Platinum, ARIA Song of the Year nominee & the fourth biggest Australian song of 2020 (ARIA)),‘Time Of My Life’, ‘Heavy Weather‘ & current single ‘Masterpiece.

We are absolutely thrilled to take out #1 on our fourth album, the first time to land the position for us. We uploaded our first track on triple j unearthed ten years ago and to be still doing what we love and connecting with fans all over the world means so much to us, especially after such a tough year for our industry as a whole. To Ivy League Records/Mushroom, Grow Yourself Up and the rest of our team, thanks for your hard work and support. To our families, absolute rocks. To our fans old and new, thank you for coming on our journey and getting behind us. We cannot wait to hit the road to share the new album live.
– The Rubens

This is such an incredible achievement and one that feels extra sweet as it comes on the band’s 4th record. To stay at the top of your game for a decade is no mean feat and it is all due to The Rubens’ incredible ability to grow, experiment and embrace the new. The great, late Pete Lusty signed the band back in 2011 and we know he is celebrating this with us right now, double scotch in hand. This one’s for him. Congratulations The Rubens!
– A&R Director, Marihuzka Cornelius, on behalf of Ivy League Records

0202 marks the second ARIA #1 album for the indie label in the last 9 months – with The Teskey Brothers’ Live At The Forum debuting in the top spot in May 2020.

With 0202 the band have fully transformed into an alt-rock/pop powerhouse and, for the first time, have self-produced an album that will have people re-evaluating what they thought they knew about The Rubens.

Listen to the band talk through the making of 0202
By the time album opener and absolute belter ‘Masterpiece’ comes to an end, it becomes very clear that The Rubens have emerged inspired from all the twists and turns thrown at them in 2020 and injected a new energy into this incredible record. 0202, a forward-thinking album for a backward year, sees The Rubens creating a sound that effortlessly dances across genres – alt-rock, rnb, pop and hip hop all collide into something uniquely their own.

0202 follows third album LO LA RU, which featured hits ‘Never Ever (feat Sarah)’ (Double Platinum), ‘Million Man’ (Certified Gold), ‘God Forgot’ (Certified Gold) and lead to sold out shows and a 42-date Arena tour supporting megastar P!NK. Their second album Hoops saw the band sell out headline shows at Hordern Pavilion and Margaret Court Arena and included hits ‘Hallelujah’, ‘Cut Me Loose’ and of course the 4 x Platinum the hit title track, which topped the 2015 triple j Hottest 100, while their debut self-titled LP was home to ‘My Gun’ (Certified Platinum), ‘Lay It Down’ (Certified Gold), ‘The Best We Got’ and more fan-favourites.

The Rubens will finish their regional NSW album launch shows tomorrow night in Thirroul (sold out) before kicking off their official 0202 album tour from April – July, playing metro cities as well as regional venues across their biggest headline tour to date.

A huge congratulations to The Rubens!

RocKwiz’s Really Really Good Friday makes its way to Live at the Bowl

by the partae February 22, 2021
written by the partae

It was 12 years ago that RocKwiz saluted the Sidney Myer Music Bowl as part of its 50th anniversary celebration but now RocKwiz’s Really Really Good Friday makes its triumphant debut at the iconic venue as part of Live at the Bowl on Friday 2 April.

“We’re all flooded with memories of rock concerts we’ve seen there, but of course inspired by the big show we did there in March 2009; a sweltering night when Melbourne was getting over a hot summer of bushfires. We came together as a big, rowdy family for music, quizzing and pure fun to shake off the sadness of recent events. Sound familiar?” asks co-host Brian Nankervis.

After four years of their hugely popular Good Friday performances at Hamer Hall, co-hosts Brian Nankervis and Julia Zemiro could not be more excited to take the fifth instalment to the Bowl. They will be joined on stage by the beloved RocKwiz Orkestra and The Wolfgramm Sisters.

“To say I have missed performing with my RocKwiz brothers and sisters would be an understatement! I will be holding back tears when I step out on stage to a beautiful audience once again at the magnificent Bowl! Get ready to Rock!” says Zemiro.

Despite the cancellation of last year’s performance due to the pandemic, this highly anticipated Easter weekend staple returns better than ever. With the Bowl’s new COVIDSafe layout of private decks, the venue is perfectly set up for music trivia tragics to gather their brains-trust and enjoy everything they love about pub-quiz trivia in safety.

“Putting on our traditional Easter RocKwiz extravaganza at the Bowl is very exciting – a tonic for the RocKwiz gang to be back there! To have the opportunity to step out from the salubrious and sophisticated Hamer Hall, venture across St Kilda Road, through the gardens, up a hill and into the outdoor wonderland that is the Sidney Myer Music Bowl is a huge thrill!” says Nankervis.

“Come on people, join us in this magnificent space for a very special night. We need this!”

Tickets will go on sale from 11am, Thursday 25 February via liveatthebowl.com.au

We’re excited to be welcoming visitors back to our venues in line with the most recent Victorian Government guidelines on COVID-19. We have opened our outdoor café Protagonist, the Sunday Markets as well as the Australian Music Vault. These openings coincided with the Live at the Bowl season, which officially kicked off on 8 January 2021.

While the ghost lights will stay on a little longer inside our venues, we will continue to offer audiences the chance to experience the wonder of the performing arts via our digital hub – Together With You. For more information including: our opening plans and related health and safety policies; bookings for free and ticketed events; and other digital content and experiences, please visit artscentremelbourne.com.au.

Photo Credit: Dylan Bow Sydney duo Winterbourne are erupting into 2021 with their first venture into the world of cinema, ‘Revolutionary, Film’. The movie, which derives its name from the opening track of the band’s debut album, will premiere in March at three vintage cinemas along the East Coast of Australia. During these premieres, the duo will also make an in-person appearance to chat with the audience and perform new and unheard songs. ‘Revolutionary, Film’ also heralds the arrival of Winterbourne’s first live album, ‘A Brand New November’ which was recorded during the sold out Echo Of Youth national tour and soundtracks the film. The album will be released April 16th, with the first single ‘Steady My Bones’ out today. Written, directed, edited and produced by the band themselves, ‘Revolutionary, Film’ is a 90 minute manifestation of band-mates James Draper and Jordan Brady’s collective state of mind leading up to, during, and resulting from their debut album release and subsequent sold out show at Sydney's Metro Theatre. Sections of the show are interwoven with a running fictional commentary as the pair make their way from a live performance in Pitt St Mall to The Metro Theatre, grappling with questions of ambition, nostalgia, reflection and of course, revolution, along the way. Today Sydney based artist MAY-A continues her ascent with new single, ‘Time I Love To Waste‘. Resuming the narrative arc of the previous release ‘Apricots‘, which recently debuted at #190 on triple j’s Hottest 200, MAY-A shares her first taste of love in the continued story of a blossoming queer relationship.

Listen to ‘Time I Love To Waste‘ HERE and stay tuned for the music video premiere at 4 PM AEDT.

‘Time I Love To Waste‘, MAY-A reveals, was “written on the same day as Apricots. Both were written in the space of 3 hours and are about the same girl.” Recounting their day together, from the cafe they visited the green Lacoste sweater her crush wore, the singer-songwriter describes every moment in vivid detail. “I was sure she liked me when I was writing it,” she continues, “but I’d personally never been interested in someone the way that I was into her. I was completely enamoured. I wanted to give her everything that she wanted and I truly felt like she was completely out of my league.”

Sharing another page of her diary with us, she continues “The lyric ‘She’s the time I love to waste’ is really just about simplicity, and the pure and kind of childish way you know you really like someone when you just wanna waste all your time with them and in those moments nothing else in the world matters everything kind of fades into the background.” Free of fear, doubt, and inhibitions, to reflect on the sickly sweet period of finding first love with earnest vulnerability means the most to Maya. “I’m not very good at expressing my emotions, I kind of just assume that people know how I feel without actually saying anything to them. I find it much easier to express myself in writing and this was the way I chose to tell her how I felt and just how much that day and those little moments meant to me.”

To celebrate the release of her new single, MAY-A is bringing her energetic live show to the stage in Sydney and Melbourne this March as part of her debut headline tour, ‘No Place Like Home‘. “I’m so psyched to play these songs live and reimagine them in different ways to bring out and emphasise the emotions I felt when writing them. I can’t wait to connect to an audience in ways beyond a phone screen” she says. Experience MAY-A’s raucous fusion of punk and pop live at the Lansdowne in Sydney on March 19th and the Northcote Social Club in Melbourne on March 20th. Tickets available HERE with more details below.

Following a breakout year with the release of ‘Apricots‘ and ‘Green‘, both of which received rotation from triple j, and the former landing MAY-A‘s Hottest 200 debut at #190, MAY-A also secured triple j Unearthed’s Feature Artist and #44 Most Played Artist of 2020. Plus widespread international support from NME, Variety, Dork, Out Front, American Songwriter, Elevator, RAGE, Tone Deaf, Pilerats, Sniffers, Coup De Main, Purple Sneakers, Early Rising, Ones To Watch with the success of ‘Apricots‘ accumulating over 3.5 million streams in just three months across DSPs.

Songwriting since age twelve, Maya Cumming has honed a brand of lyricism that marries the classic pop structures and storytelling of the parental favourites that permeated her childhood home, together with the nonchalant Gen Z cool of Clairo, and the suburban poetry of Lorde. With her poignant, elliptical storytelling, clear-eyed observational lyricism, and songwriting full of musical left-turns, as MAY-A she interrogates the realities of youth with clarity and maturity beyond her 19 years, and ‘Time I Love To Waste‘ is the latest piece from her treasure trove. Stay tuned as MAY-A continues to share her goldmine with the world.

‘Time I Love To Waste’ is out now via Sony, buy/stream it here.

NATIONAL CRY FOREVER TOUR TIX ON SALE NOW

MEDIA RELEASE:: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, FRIDAY FEBRUARY 19

Sony Music Entertainment Australia and Wonderlick Recording Company are extremely excited to announce that Australian artist and 8 x ARIA award winner, Amy Shark has released her brand-new single, ‘Love Songs Ain’t For Us’ featuring Keith Urban, the latest offering from her upcoming sophomore album CRY FOREVER, available April 30.

Co-written with UK singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran, ‘Love Songs Ain’t For Us’ is a defining moment for the Gold Coast native and sees a softer side to Shark’s often confronting and melancholy songwriting. Amy’s distinct vocals are on display from the first note with an understated production that will have you immersed in this dreamy love song immediately.

When asked about writing with Ed Sheeran, Amy comments: “Ed asked me if I wrote songs about my man, I told him I do, but love songs aren’t really for us. He then smiled and said, “ok that’s what we’ll do then”. This song is as loved up as you’ll get from me and I love it.”

Joining Amy on ‘Love Songs Ain’t For Us’ is Grammy-award winner Keith Urban, who announced the first shows of his THE SPEED OF NOW TOUR, to hit Australia with 11 shows this December. Amy explains how working with Keith came about.  “The song is so classy and timeless I needed to find a class act to join me. Keith is so professional and well respected around the world, so it was a no brainer.”

After bursting on to the global music scene in 2016, Amy Shark’s 5 x Platinum single ‘Adore’ put her on the map as one of Australia’s most formidable emerging songwriters. This was followed by 4 x Platinum and number one Australian Airplay Chart hit, ‘I Said Hi’ and the 2019 2 x platinum single ‘Mess Her Up’. Shark’s debut/breakthrough #1 ARIA album and Platinum-certified LOVE MONSTER was recognised in 2018 with four ARIA awards (Album of the Year, Best Female Artist, Best Pop Release, Best Producer [Dann Hume]) and was nominated for another five. LOVE MONSTER went on to become the highest selling album by an Australian artist for 2018. Not one to slow down, even in a global pandemic, 2020 saw Amy release her ARIA award winning, platinum accredited single, ‘Everybody Rise’, which is nearing 25 million streams globally and spent 12 weeks in the top 10 Australian airplay chart.

The video for ‘Love Songs Ain’t For Us’ was directed by ARIA award winning director, James Chappell. You can watch the premiere on YouTube today at 10:30am AEDT with Amy joining the live chat! Make sure you click the link HERE to join the conversation.

CRY FOREVER is set for release on April 30, 2021 and is available to pre-order now via Wonderlick/Sony Music Entertainment Australia.

Tickets are now on sale for the ‘Cry Forever’ tour. For further information, head to www.amyshark.com.

The CRY FOREVER tour will be held with a commitment to a COVID Safe environment.  TEG LIVE will work closely with and comply with all requirements of the public health authorities in respect of these shows.
