Today, rising singer-songwriter John Vincent III releases his long- awaited sophomore album ‘Songs for the Canyon’ via Concord Records. The album is a deeply personal artistic statement that chronicles the nearly year-long journey he and his partner embarked upon at the start of the global pandemic that upended life as we knew it. Accompanying today’s release is a brand-new video for “Bluebird Singing”.
Currently boasting more than 2.3 million monthly listeners on Spotify alone, John Vincent III earned immediate attention and critical applause with a series of self-released singles and EPs, followed by his breakthrough 2019 debut album, ‘Songs from the Valley’.
The Houston, TX-raised singer-songwriter celebrated the LP’s success with nearly non-stop touring, returning home just as the pandemic struck and the lockdown went into effect. Once touring became impossible, Vincent – somewhat disillusioned and unsure about whether he wanted to continue to pursue music as a career – felt compelled to make a major change. He and his partner loaded their van with essentials and set out on what became an eight-month long odyssey that took them to more than a dozen states.
Despite his ambivalence about making music professionally, Vincent kept up with his daily practice of writing songs, which helped to keep him grounded and allowed him to reconnect with the joy of making music for its own sake. Upon returning home to Los Angeles, he realised that he wasn’t ready to leave music behind, and he signed with Concord in early 2022.
Recording sessions for the album were led by Vincent’s co-executive producer Tom Elmhirst (Adele, David Bowie). Songs for the Canyon features additional production from Tony Berg (boygenius, Phoebe Bridgers, Taylor Swift), Ryan Hadlock (Zach Bryan, Brandi Carlile, Lumineers), and Jonathan Gilbert (Mt. Joy, Pete Yorn).

“It’s difficult to put into words what Songs for the Canyon is, as it’s simply who I was for close to three years,” he reflects. “Looking back, it’s almost strange to remember a time without this thing that my nearly every thought revolved around, which is something I have never felt before regarding a musical project.”
“I suppose SFTC is a self-exploration and acceptance of what I found, a representation of my life as it was. Making this album turned out to be far more difficult than I had ever anticipated, but
I’ve grown so thankful for all that I’ve learned in the process. In the canyon, much like our lives, there is sunlight and rain. I hope there is a song here for whatever your day may bring.”
