4 THEATRICAL ACTS | 13 ORIGINAL MUSICAL ACTS | 6 VISUAL ARTISTS | 3 PROJECTION ARTISTS + MORE FOR DARKWORLD FESTIVAL 2021

Teasing it’s appearance over the last few weeks with cryptic social media posts, DARKWORLD gives 2 middle fingers to the year that’s been, announcing its inaugural event. As COVID in Australia eases, punters and live music goers are eagerly awaiting the return of full capacity to music venues statewide. Moving ahead the festival has managed to make ends meet within restricted capacity and are set to bring their mini dark-mofo style event to The Triffid on January 23rd early next year. Original plans of the inaugural festival were set for July 2020 but were quickly canned earlier on in the year by - say no more... For a year that has been so crippling yet encouraging for many and, the DKWD vision has only become more relevant and important. What not celebrate Art right now? It is IMPORTANT! The festival comes as a result of unique collaborations between Brisbane creative misfits Boss Moxi, award winning dance collective Phluxus2, Brisbane’s loved venue The Triffid and local filmhouse, Method To My Madness. “We want to erase the blurred lines between these individual industries that often operate, and are mostly considered as separate. Music, Art, Theatre, Film, Lighting, Projections, Dance & Photography. We believe that creative expression lives at the core of all artistic practice and we want to promote these origins, the thing that all forms share. We plan to present ‘art’ in a momentary, livable space of its many sensory forms.” - DW2021 TEAM This is DARKWORLD: a 1 day, indoor, multi-form festival all crammed into 12 hours at The Triffid. From the glowing exhibits of local visual artists, to the live art growing and swimming around you, DARKWORLD plans to render the iconic Brisbane venue, unrecognisable. Based on the proceedings of a music festival with 12+ bands the dance and entertainment is planned to keep you fully engaged from midday to midnight. Kicking things off in the 11am heat, sunlit strangeness will lead into a full afternoon of art & music creeping patrons through to an upside-down-world, Twin Peaks-like setting that comes to life at night. Essentially this is a ‘fuck-you’ style celebration of the arts . Bringing all forms of art together as one community, celebrating our endless but sadistically enjoyable, struggling lives as creators and having a big piss-up / party to commemorate what an arduous year 2020 was. Following their sold out show back in early November Boss Moxi curates the music lineup, Gum Magazine calling their last Sold Out appearance in early Nov “a show not easily forgotten - a vast, deep, ephemeral example of what a band is truly capable of.” Joining them as headliners is the ever captivating, Young Lions, coming out of their hibernation that has been COVID with lead singer Zach Britt, caught in Melbourne this year eager to bring the band back to full energy at DW2021. From the illuminated art works of local tech and light auters to the abstract & detailed art and photography of local artists, DARKWORLD is now approaching, with tickets on sale now. The capacity is strictly limited at this stage, with hopes that the government will ease restrictions and Queensland remains COVID free over the Christmas break. Tickets are available through the DARKWORLD website but there aren’t many available so get in quick.
