COURTNEY BARNETT ANNOUNCES CREATURE OF HABIT TOUR FOR NOVEMBER 2026

by the partae April 7, 2026
written by the partae

Local legend Courtney Barnett today announces Creature of Habit East Coast tour dates for November. The Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter will take her live show to Brisbane’s The Tivoli on 4 November and Melbourne’s Palais Theatre on 7 November, plus a stop at the iconic Sydney Opera House Concert Hall.

Frontier Members can access presale tickets from 9am AEST on Wednesday 8 April, ahead of tickets going on sale at 9am AEST on Friday 10 April. More information at frontiertouring.com/courtneybarnett

More than four years since her last Australian tour, Courtney makes her homecoming in the wake of extensive UK and North American dates. Known for a performance that’s part intimate storytelling, part indie rock, with bursts of raw grunge-like energy, Courtney Barnett live is genuine and authentic. A signature blend of moody guitar, witty, anecdotal lyrics and her laconic talk-singing have cemented her as “one of the most distinctive voices in indie music” (The Mancunion).

Released in March, Creature of Habit is the highly anticipated new album from the indie trailblazer. It’s a bold, emotionally resonant record that explores the central question: how to get out of your own way so you can truly feel your life.

Written in the wake of a relocation from Australia to Los Angeles and the closure of her long-running label Milk! Records, Barnett was grappling with changes that put the future of both her life and career in question. Rather than internalising those feelings, she decided to bring all this swirling confusion directly into the recording process. With singles ‘Stay in Your Lane’, and ‘Site Unseen (feat. Waxahatchee)’ setting the tone, the album marks a decisive new chapter in Courtney Barnett’s musical evolution.

Courtney took to the stage at Manchester’s Radio 6 Music Festival last month, launching Creature of Habit to widespread acclaim. She also delivered a powerful live rendition of ‘Mantis’ for US television’s CBS Mornings’ Saturday Sessions.
With Creature of Habit, Courtney Barnett reaffirms her place as one of the most compelling voices in modern rock; unafraid to confront uncertainty, embrace vulnerability, and transform it into something deeply human and electrifying.

Courtney will bring her new record and extensive catalogue to life with performances in some of Australia’s premiere venues this November, transforming each track into a dynamic, shared experience that resonates long after the final note.

Courtney Barnett’s Creature of Habit is out now (Fiction Records) – Get it HERE!

EARL SWEATSHIRT, MIKE, AND SURF GANG RELEASE DOUBLE LP – POMPEII // UTILITY LP EARL SWEATSHIRT & MIKE TOURING ANZ THIS MAY

by the partae April 7, 2026
written by the partae

Earl Sweatshirt, MIKE, and SURF GANG release their double album POMPEII // UTILITY via 10k/Tan Cressida/SURF GANG Records. A long-rumored, coveted collaboration between two friends who happen to be two of the most critically celebrated rappers in the game and renowned producer collective SURF GANG, the double album is a capstone on the musical community they’ve cultivated over the last decade. From top to bottom, there was a clear concerted effort to keep every angle of the project within the family. All of the art for this project, from single covers to the album cover, is pulled from work by sculptor and Earl Sweatshirt’s childhood friend, Sharif Farrag. LISTEN HERE.

Over the past week, Earl, MIKE, and SURF GANG have shut down intimate venues in LA, New York City and London for three secret shows they unveiled via a scavenger hunt on their website last month. Later next month, MIKE and Earl will also be playing a series of Australian and New Zealand tour dates in May, including a show at Sydney Opera House as part of Vivid LIVE Festival. Tickets are on sale below, with support on select dates from C.FRIM and Chef Chung. Following that, the official Home on the Range tour kicks off in June, which includes 26 US stops beginning June 9th in Riverside, before taking it overseas to Europe.

Structured as a double-sided album with MIKE on one side (POMPEII) and Earl on the other (UTILITY), SURF GANG’s Harrison, evilgiane, Elipropperr, and Flea Diamonds lace an animated and frenetic framework through the project with their production, resulting in a full-circle collision of worlds that was inevitable. POMPEII // UTILITY translates those nuanced differences between MIKE, Earl & SURF GANG into a singular language of their own, evoking a shared ethos of collaboration and community-building rather than a transactional exercise. The producer collective’s distinctly online, manic song structures give MIKE & Earl a new opportunity to fold their shared propensity for coded, meditative verses into the larger community they’ve built through their friendship since MIKE first caught the world’s, and Earl’s, attention in 2016, ahead of his cult classic 2017 album MAY GOD BLESS YOUR HUSTLE. In the years since, the pair have tallied notable collaborations like ‘allstar’ on MIKE’s 2020 album weight of the world, and ‘Sentry’ on Earl Sweatshirt and The Alchemist’s collab album VOIR DIRE.

Arky Waters Turns Up the Heat with New Single ‘Molly’

by the partae April 3, 2026
written by the partae

Australian producer/DJ Arky Waters is ramping up anticipation for his upcoming debut album with the release of his latest single, ‘Molly’.

“I just wanted to make some dance music that was fun and dumb. When I first started experiencing club music, I remember the trap DJs always cutting in some bass house in their sets. It was a fun way to provide an energy switch during the set, so I wanted to make something similar. For some of my friends that I’ve shown it to, it’s their favourite track on the record!” says Arky Waters

‘Molly’ is a high-energy, bass-driven track designed to spark the dance floor while showcasing Arky Waters’ playful take on electronic music. With its infectious drive and uplifting drops, it’s the perfect teaser for what’s to come on his debut album.

Interview: Will Sparks on Classics, Crowds and the Next Chapter

by the partae April 2, 2026
written by the partae

What made now feel like the right time to look back and build a tour around the music that started everything for you?

Honestly it just felt like the moment. I’ve been doing this for over 15 years now and I realised there’s this whole body of work tracks that shaped everything I became as an artist that I’ve barely touched in my sets. Fans who’ve been with me from the start deserve to hear that music properly, and newer fans deserve to know where it all came from. The timing felt right to honour that.

When you listen to your early tracks today, do you hear nostalgia, or do you hear a completely different version of yourself?

Both honestly. There’s definitely nostalgia I can hear the bedroom, the late nights, the excitement of just making noise and not really knowing what you’re doing. But I also hear someone figuring out their identity.

Melbourne bounce became a global sound — did you realise at the time you were part of something that big, or did it happen without you noticing?

I wouldn’t say it happened without me noticing. It was really a unique moment and period for me growing up. One day I was in my bedroom on shitty speakers then you feel like the next day you’re playing it overseas and people know every drop and you think ok something big has happened here.

You’ve been in the industry for over a decade now — what’s something about the music world that people don’t see from the outside?

How relentless it actually is. People see the shows, the travel, the highlights but they don’t see how much goes into sustaining a career year after year. The music, the business decisions, the relationships, the mental load of staying relevant while staying true to yourself. It’s not glamorous the whole way through, and the artists who last are the ones who genuinely love it enough to keep going through the hard parts.

How different is the way you make music today compared to when you were producing in your bedroom in the early days?

Night and day in terms of tools and knowledge but the core is the same. I still start with a feeling of how do i want people to people when they hear this. Back then I didn’t have the technical skills to fully execute the vision. Now I do. But if anything, I try to protect that raw instinct.

Do you think electronic music moves too fast now, or do you like the pace the industry is evolving at?

It moves fast but I think that’s part of what makes it exciting. The challenge is not chasing every trend and losing your identity in the process. The artists I respect most are the ones who evolve on their own terms. If you’re just reacting to whatever’s hot this week, the music shows it. I’d rather be authentic and just on my own course.

If you could go back and give your younger self one piece of advice when you first started, what would it be?

Trust the process and don’t worry about peoples opinions. I wasted a lot of energy early on caring what people think. The only version of this that works long-term is the one that’s genuinely yours. Everything else is noise.

What keeps you motivated after so many years of touring, releasing music, and being constantly on the move?

The people, honestly. You can have the longest travel day of your life, run on no sleep, and then you walk out and the crowd is going off that resets everything. And I still genuinely love making music. The day that stops feeling exciting is the day I’ll know something’s wrong.

Your new single Teardrop feels like another step forward — where do you see your sound heading over the next few years?

I’m not sure really all the music coming out now I made is from 6-12 months ago. I love making more emotional records but also love records that you know when they’re played live at a festival the crowd is going to go crazy.

After celebrating the past with this tour, what do you think the next chapter of Will Sparks looks like?

It’s actually one of the most exciting periods I’ve had in a while. More music than I’ve ever released, a collab with Orkestrated that I’m really proud of, Tomorrowland again, and potentially a surprise EP that I think will genuinely catch people off guard. The Classics tour is about honouring where it started  but everything else I’ve got lined up is firmly about where it’s going.

by the partae April 2, 2026

Guttermouth, the unapologetic, wise-cracking punk rock institution fronted by the one and only Mark Adkins, is heading back to Australia for what the band insists—cross their hearts and hope to die—is absolutely, triple-promise-the-last-time their final tour Down Under.

Titled “One Last Time“, the run consists of just seven shows in October 2026, giving fans one last chance to catch them live before Mark hangs up his mic for good… or at least until he changes his mind again. Turning 60 years old on October 10 this year and having already visited Australia 20+ times, Mark has officially had it. “I’ve been coming here since before half of you were born,” Adkins said in a recent interview from his couch. “I’ve seen the beaches, the bars, the bans, the bullshit. I’ve partied, I’ve fought, I’ve blacked out in places I still can’t pronounce, enough is enough”

Guttermouth’s Australian history is pure punk legend: wild nights, venue bans, “farewell” tours that weren’t, and a fanbase that’s ridden the chaos for decades. This tour tips its hat to the country that’s welcomed (and occasionally booted) them back forever. So, grab a ticket if you’re game for one more round. Or don’t. Mark’s feet are up, cold one in hand, zero fucks left. This is it—’One Last Time,’ or whatever the hell comes next…

Sophia Bouvier Introduces a Striking Debut with “Poison Apple”

by the partae April 2, 2026
written by the partae

At just 17, Vancouver-based singer-songwriter Sophia Bouvier steps into view with the quiet confidence of an artist who already knows the power of a well-told story. Her debut single, “Poison Apple,” serves as both an introduction and a statement of intent—an intimate, emotionally charged track that explores what she describes as “the push and pull of temptation, trust, and heartbreak.” There’s a tension running through the song, where sweetness slowly gives way to something sharper, capturing that all-too-familiar moment when illusion fades and consequences settle in. With its vivid lyricism and reflective tone, “Poison Apple” invites listeners to find themselves within it, sitting with the complicated choices we make and the bittersweet aftermath they leave behind. It’s a compelling first glimpse into a songwriting voice that leans into vulnerability without losing its edge.

Bouvier’s path to this moment has been shaped by years of performance and connection. Since picking up the ukulele at eight, she has honed her craft busking on city streets and playing in cafes, restaurants, and local venues across Vancouver. Her musical world draws from a rich lineage—echoes of Lana Del Rey’s cinematic melancholy, Billie Eilish’s understated intimacy, Nina Simone’s emotional depth, and Amy Winehouse’s raw honesty all find subtle expression in her work. Offstage, she channels that same passion into building community, hosting a monthly youth open mic that creates space for emerging voices to be heard. With “Poison Apple,” Sophia Bouvier isn’t just introducing herself—she’s establishing a foundation rooted in storytelling, connection, and a clear sense of artistic identity.

ANNA JEAVONS COUNTS DOWN TO THE RELEASE OF ANOMIE WITH EMOTIVE SINGLE ‘SMART CASUAL’

by the partae April 2, 2026
written by the partae

Ahead of the release of her studio album ANOMIE, Adelaide-based songwriter and musician Anna Jeavons shares another powerful taster with new single, ‘Smart Casual’.

A song that speaks to Jeavons’ heartfelt and natural talent for songwriting and storytelling, ‘Smart Casual’ is emotive and high impact. Produced by Ben Stewart (Slowly Slowly), it locks listeners in, with commanding vocals and layered guitars building to a moving crescendo. Jeavons pours reflections on a turbulent time in her life into lyrics that feel both accessible and intimate.

“Smart Casual is a song about how we don’t grow all year round and, like plants, need light and time. Like a lot of songs on the album, it wrestles with existential angst; it’s an outpouring of loneliness, and yearning for meaning. In the lyrics I say: I don’t believe in anything; I am more alone than I have ever been.

But it’s not all depressing. At the end you can hear me repeat the lyrics ‘it’ll be alright’, almost like a mantra. I think I wanted to believe I could tend to the parts of me that felt cold or buried – and eventually be ready to unfurl and grow again.”

Indeed, “It’ll be alright” may be the catchcry of the artist’s forthcoming album. A skilled lyricist, Anna carefully articulates commonplace anxieties. But it is hope, not self-pity, that’s left lingering in the listener’s ear.

Along with the release of ‘Smart Casual’, Jeavons is excited to share the song’s official music video, co-directed by Jeavons herself and Brendan Levi.

.

Anna, who lives with Bipolar I Disorder, wanted to visually capture her relationship with nature: one of her great comforts in times of crisis.

“Imagery like lying in grass, or being engulfed by the ocean, is an important visual for the album. Reconnecting with the natural world, and listening to it, helps me slow down; to stop rushing headlong to my death. It makes me feel connected to something bigger, universal, eternal – to the natural order of things. Less alone. I can immerse my miserable, crushing individuality into something older and wiser – the earth, the long grass; a speck intermingling with an enormous universe.

The video was shot at locations between Brownhill Creek, Belair and Lynton Railway Station in Adelaide.

Jeavons wanted to contrast the footage with imagery of lying in bed in a dark room doomscrolling, representing her depression.

“I recruited my friends Brendan Levi and Daniel Wise to bring this one to life. We focused on aligning match cuts between the bedroom and the nature shots, and capturing footage from above that pulls out slowly. I was hoping to create a feeling of expansion, like in the song. It starts simple, then builds and opens up at the end, becoming big and cinematic. We wanted to mirror that in the music video.”

ANOMIE will be released on April 29 – the start of a much-anticipated new chapter for Jeavons, one of Adelaide’s long-beloved storytellers. So far this year, the artist has released six stunning tracks, each speaking to the themes of the album in their own way.

Featuring songs ‘Woo Me’, ‘On The Sidelines’, ‘Milky’ and more, the growing collection has provided newcomers with a great gateway to Jeavons’ music. For longtime fans, it’s been a poignant reminder of her dedication to the craft. With the release of ‘Smart Casual’, we see Anna Jeavons take another step forward, offering more poetic and nuanced musings on what it means to be alive.

SMART CASUAL IS OUT NOW

ANOMIE IS RELEASED WEDNESDAY 29 APRIL.

MAKUA ROTHMAN RELEASES A POWERFUL NEW SINGLE CATCH A WAVE WITH AWOLNATION

by the partae April 2, 2026
written by the partae

Big Wave world champion continues musical rise with one of 2026’s standout collaborations

MAKUA is heading to Australia and is set to perform at Sessions Surf Festival on the Gold Coast on 23 May 2026 + more to be announced

Big Wave world champion Makua Rothman has released his new single Catch A Wave, a powerful collaboration with multi-platinum alternative act AWOLNATION that is already gaining global traction.

A World Surf League title holder, Rothman built his reputation charging some of the most dangerous waves on the planet. But behind the accolades lies a journey marked by personal struggles that once saw him lose his way before rebuilding his life through surfing, music and discipline.

Now emerging as a powerful voice beyond the surf world, the North Shore of Oahu native channels those experiences into music that blends alternative rock and surf punk. His songs draw heavily from life growing up on Hawaii’s North Shore and the tight-knit surf community that shaped him.

His latest release, Catch A Wave, features Aaron Bruno, frontman of AWOLNATION and the voice behind the multi-platinum hit Sail, with the collaboration naturally progressing from creative partnership and into the studio.

At its core, the track is grounded in loss, brotherhood and life in the water, carrying an emotional weight that reflects Rothman’s journey both as an athlete and an artist.

“Music gives us a way to bring back the memories of our friends who have passed and help carry their legacies forward,” Rothman says. “The song is a way to make sure they are not forgotten.”

Working alongside multi-platinum producer Jimmy Messer, whose credits include Madonna, Miley Cyrus and Kelly Clarkson, Rothman has been building momentum as an artist, touring with acts such as AWOLNATION and Sublime.

Australia is a natural stop, with Rothman planning upcoming tour dates. He will kick things off on the Gold Coast at Sessions Surf Festival 2026, with additional dates to be announced. He carries strong recognition among surf audiences, while his crossover into music is connecting with a broader cultural audience across sport, music and lifestyle.

With a new album expected this year, his upcoming visit will introduce Australian audiences to the next chapter of that journey.

Monsieur Mellow – Roll River, Roll (feat. Jackson James Smith) out now

by the partae April 1, 2026
written by the partae

Australian songwriter/producer Callum MacDonald (best known as a core member of Brisbane R&B/soul outfit daste.), continues to carve out a new lane with his solo project, Monsieur Mellow. This week, he shares his latest single, “Roll River, Roll”, the next taste of his forthcoming debut solo EP.

Launching the project in January with the smooth, groove-led ‘Paris Strut’, and quickly following it up with ‘Slow Down’ featuring Sydney artist Taj Ralph, Monsieur Mellow has been steadily building a world that leans into warmth, nostalgia and late-night sway. Now, “Roll River, Roll” sees him teaming up with Brisbane singer/songwriter Jackson James Smith for a collaboration that feels both effortless and overdue.

Built around soulful vocal samples and glowing brass lines, the track locks into a slow-burn rhythm that feels timeless. Lush trumpets set the tone early, while the groove carries that signature Monsieur Mellow balance — music that feels lived-in yet immediate, equally suited to solitary reflection or a dancefloor moment shared with someone close.

Speaking on the track, Callum shares; “I’ve always been drawn to soulful vocal samples, so in August last year I remember spending a few days digging through acapellas that really spoke to me. A handful from the London collective Soothsayers immediately clicked as they carried the warmth I’d been hearing in my head for this project. From the start, I knew where I wanted the sound to lean.

With Monsieur Mellow, I’m always chasing that sweet spot between groove and nostalgia. I want the music to feel lived-in, like something that moves you in the moment but also feels like it drifted in from another decade. There’s a certain sway I’m after, that slow-burn rhythm you could dance to with someone you love as the night rolls on.

The foundation of “Roll River, Roll” came together quickly once the brass lines and chorus vocal sample locked in. The trumpets really set the tone, and everything else flowed from there. I’d been hoping to work with Jackson for a long time, but I’m a big believer in waiting for the right song. I feel lucky he connected with it. His vocal ended up being the final touch on a track I already loved, and it lifted the whole thing exactly where it needed to go.”

With each release, Monsieur Mellow further defines his solo identity — one rooted in groove-heavy production, soulful textures and a deep reverence for classic songwriting. “Roll River, Roll” continues that evolution, setting the tone for what’s to come from his debut EP later this year.
