Towle’s musical background stretches back to childhood. Born in Chicago in 1965, he received his first guitar from his grandmother at the age of ten. He began by listening to classic pop on AM radio before developing an interest in guitarists including Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix and Wes Montgomery.
