Most breakup songs are built on loss. They ache with regret, replay old arguments, or linger on what could have been. The Hospital’s latest single, Remember Us In Summer, takes a different path entirely.
Instead of revisiting old wounds, the Australian-born, London-based artist reflects on a past relationship with genuine gratitude. It’s a song that understands something many people only learn with time: not every relationship is supposed to last forever, and that doesn’t make it any less meaningful.
Written several years after the relationship ended, Remember Us In Summer isn’t driven by longing or sadness. If anything, it’s a celebration of what remains when the dust settles.
“For me, it was about appreciating what that chapter gave me,” says The Hospital. “She found her person, I found mine, and everything worked out exactly as it was supposed to. Looking back now, I choose to remember the good parts.”
That perspective sits at the heart of the song. Warm, reflective and quietly uplifting, Remember Us In Summer captures the rare feeling of being able to look back on a former love without bitterness. The memories remain, but the pain has faded, leaving behind an appreciation for the experiences shared and the lives that emerged afterwards.
The track forms part of The Hospital’s upcoming EP, Without You Is Hard, due for release in August 2026. Across the project, themes of connection, belonging and shared experience are explored through songs that recognise the importance of the people who shape our lives, even if they are only present for a season.
The theme feels particularly fitting for an artist whose entire project is built around creating connection.
The Hospital is more than a band name. It’s an idea. A place where people can feel understood, seen and accepted. Growing up surrounded by creativity, with influences spanning poetry, film, photography and music, The Hospital spent formative years moving between Australia, New York and Los Angeles before eventually finding a creative home in London.
The Hospital writes, records and edits all music and visual content independently. The neighbourhood’s rich cultural history and creative energy have become an integral part of the project, influencing not only the songs but the visual identity that surrounds them. Through music videos, photography and community-focused events, The Hospital regularly highlights the artists, businesses and personalities that give the area its character.
That commitment to authenticity carries through the music. Nothing about Remember Us In Summer feels forced. There are no dramatic declarations or attempts to rewrite history. Instead, the song finds power in acceptance and the understanding that some people enter our lives for exactly as long as they’re meant to.
Following the release of Decomposing earlier this year, The Hospital continues to build momentum toward the arrival of Without You Is Hard. If the singles released so far are any indication, the EP will be less about heartbreak and more about the relationships that sustain us, challenge us and ultimately help define who we become.
Because sometimes the most meaningful love stories aren’t the ones that last forever. They’re the ones that leave us better than they found us.
