LA-based pop polymath SEB has just released his debut EP, IT’S OKAY, WE’RE DREAMING, via Mom+Pop, a six-song excursion that includes his previously released singles ‘Coney Island‘, ‘THEY DON’T LIKE ME‘, and the bonus track ‘seaside_demo‘. LISTEN HERE.

Since emerging in 2020 with his first single ‘Boys Don’t Cry‘, SEB has steadily built a fervent fanbase and captured the attention of tastemakers worldwide, a process accelerated by the release of ‘seaside_demo‘, which has amassed a staggering 50+ million streams in just two months.

Carving out his own stylistic lane, SEB is as inspired by the emotionally charged songwriting of artists akin to Kurt Cobain and Joni Mitchell as by the boundary-breaking approach of artists like Tyler, the Creator, Kid Cudi, and Grimes. IT’S OKAY, WE’RE DREAMING explores his darkest truths as he questions how the past shapes who he is today – complete with an enthralling visual world inspired by cult movies Gummo and Donnie Darko.

“IT’S OKAY, WE’RE DREAMING serves as the first act to this whole journey,” SEB explains. “It fleshes out the mind-state I was in senior year where all these possibilities were about to open up, but at the same time, I’m starting to deal with the realities of growing up.” The EP’s stylistic diversity is, in part, influenced by SEB’s wildly varied upbringing, coming up in Chicago after hopping between New York, Haiti, Oklahoma, and Miami.

Upon returning to New York for college, he interned at the iconic Electric Lady Studios, where brief brushes with artistic giants spurred him to make the move to LA to focus on his music career. SEB explains, “the fact that I’m black makes it hard for people to just call my music pop. The whole point of my artistic existence right now is fighting for the idea that a single black artist, who writes and produces their own music, can stand right next to a Taylor Swift or Harry Styles.” IT’S OKAY, WE’RE DREAMING marks the first step in that journey.

IT’S OKAY, WE’RE DREAMING EP is out now, buy/stream it here.
