Rising Sydney alt-rock outfit lahgo today return with their brand new single ‘My 600th Letter’. Stream HERE. this Saturday, lahgo will celebrate the release of ‘My 600th Letter’ alongside their previous single ‘What I Need’ at Marrickville’s Heaps Normal Warehouse, with tickets on sale now and available HERE.
Produced with Ethan Reginato(Gang of Youths, The Avalanches, Meg Mac), the new single sees the duo explore new territory sonically, leaning further into their pop influences while remaining true to their grittier rock roots.
Vocal powerhouse Mel Bailey says ‘My 600th Letter’ is a deeply personal song “about watching a childhood friend turn into someone you don’t recognise anymore.” The track opens with a gentle but vibrant acoustic strum, before layers of synth, electric guitar, and a driving drumbeat build into a crescendo. Mel’s vocals seamlessly move from reflective to hopeful and back again, as she contemplates a brighter future for the song’s subject with lines like I wish you could’ve been everything you wanted to be, and I’ve been writing my 600th letter to tell you that things can get better.
“It’s about wanting to be there for them, but feeling helpless every time you try,” says Mel. “It’s the pain of knowing you would do more if they’d let you, and learning to accept that being shut out was never really about you, even though it still hurts.”
With lahgo, Mel and her bandmate Lee Denman (guitars, bass) have garnered a loyal following across the country with their combination of memorable pop-driven melodies and raw, alternative edge. On the live stage, their music translates into a performance that feels immediate and exciting, while still connecting on an emotional level with their audience. Their music has found a home with a growing community of fans, leading them to multiple sold out headline shows in Sydney and Melbourne, a packed out performance at King Street Crawl, and sharing stages with a wide range of acts including The Terrys, Don West, The Living End, and Le Shiv.
Alongside airplay on triple j and community radio nationwide, lahgo’s music has been spotlighted on DSP editorial playlists including Spotify’s Fresh Finds AU & NZ, Rock Out, The Local List, TURN UP AUS, and Local Noise, as well as music video playlisting on Rage and coverage across Australian media.

About lahgo:
As Sydney emerged from lockdown, the pair met at their local guitar shop and rehearsal studio, Talon Music. Mel came from alt-rnb/soul and Lee from indie rock. “We came from different musical worlds, but bonded straight away over Amy Winehouse, Gorillaz and Arctic Monkeys,” recalls Mel.
That immediate connection led to lahgo’s first show a month later: a sold-out show at Oxford Art Factory Main Stage. Their first co-write, ‘Shallow Hellos’, set the tone for what would follow—a personal reflection on social anxiety and the search for people who make you feel understood, themes that remain at the heart of the band’s songwriting.
They’ve since sold out four Sydney headline shows across 2024–26 and supported The Terrys, DZ Deathrays, Don West and Le Shiv. Their 2026 run includes appearances at Party in the Paddock and Bonzaki Music Festival, with upcoming shows alongside The Living End, The Angels and The Superjesus.
lahgo’s distinct sound sits somewhere between No Doubt, Wet Leg and Paramore. Think alt-rock grit with pop instinct, unfiltered self-awareness and songs that hold a mirror up to people and relationships.
lahgo comes from the Filipino word malago (pronounced mah-lah-gô), which means to flourish, or thrive.
