KYOSHI is a Sydney four-piece band who converse in rhythm and melody. They’ve synthesised their own distinctive voice, with a futuristic and progressive interpretation on the psychedelic offerings of 60’s soul, funk and jazz – that soulfully stimulates both the mind and body.

Teasing the inevitable debut album, Kyoshi’s first release for 2021, Mother is a spiritual honouring to the feminine power in us, and in the universe that surrounds us. The great Earth Mother has unbound generosity for her children, as she watches over them grow and develop.

Opening with ethereal chimes to tickle your ears, Mother quickly jumps into a swampy groove that’ll resonate with your internal rhythms. Leah’s poetic lyrics have a swift momentum that leads the funk-laden chorus. Throughout the song the harmony builds to a beautiful crescendo where the repeating phrase “She brings forth new life” perfectly captures the raw power of the great Earth Mother.

Grounding their sound in nu-jazz and future-soul, Kyoshi’s music is complex but never overwhelming. The bands previous releases, Lush and Naima received strong support from triple j, FBI Radio, 4ZZZ, 2SER, and KCC Live (England).
