MELBOURNE ART-PUNK DUO NOCON Jamie Timony (MOSSY/These New South Whales) and Jake O'Brien NEW SINGLE 'HOAX' OUT NOW VIA DINOSAUR CITY RECORDS

NOCON, the brand new art-punk project of Melbourne’s Jamie Timony (MOSSY/These New South Whales) and Jake O’Brien, today share new single ‘HOAX’ following its debut on triple j last night.

Out now on Dinosaur City Records‘HOAX’ is NOCON’s second single and follows the release of skuzzy punk track ‘AGAG’ (April 2020), which turned heads at triple j, double j, NME, Weirdo Wasteland, Tone Deaf, 2SER and Triple R among others, and landed rotation on FBi Radio and Edge FM.

Written, recorded and produced remotely by Jamie and Jake during a winter in isolation and mixed by Dean Tuza‘HOAX’ sticks to the parameters established with ‘AGAG’ with bendy guitars and driving bass, while leaning further into the band’s influences from trap, emo and cloud rap.

PRAISE FOR NOCON

“Snazzy scuzzy punk that’s about as humble in its origins as any off-the-cuff bedroom recording,
but with a sharper edge.”

 Weirdo Wasteland

“Discordant, lo-fi, crosseyed punk that i can’t help but march along with.”
 Declan Byrne, triple j

‘HOAX’ features Jamie and Jake on alternating vocal duties with the addition of guitar, bass, an 808 and crumby samples. The idea for the song is best summarised by the key image called to mind by the monotonously delivered chorus lyrics: “That was just a hoax / That was just two kids stacked up high in a trench coat / Moustache / Trying to buy some smokes”.

The band explain the track: ‘HOAX’ is about being spoon-fed fallacies your entire life from every angle imaginable—being lied to, misled and manipulated into a trance.”

‘HOAX’ is out Friday September 18 via Dinosaur City Records.
