Grammy Award winning singer songwriter Leon Bridges will return to Australia in February and March 2027 with The Happiness Anytime Tour, marking his seventh Australian visit.
The tour will begin at the Sydney Opera House Forecourt on Friday 26 February before travelling to Brisbane, Fremantle, Adelaide and Melbourne. Bridges will perform at On the Banks at Brisbane’s Cultural Forecourt QPAC, Walyalup Fremantle Arts Centre, WOMADelaide Festival and Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens.
Bridges’ Australian return coincides with the release of his fifth studio album, Happiness Anytime, with the final instalment, Part 3, scheduled for release on 25 September via Columbia Records.
Parts 1 and 2 of the album have already been released. According to the announcement, the project combines elements of Bridges’ 2015 debut album Coming Home with influences from his collaborations with Khruangbin.
The 12 song album was produced by J Lloyd Watson and Lydia Kitto of British trio Jungle. Movement, groove and joy are central themes throughout the record, with Bridges describing happiness as something he wants the album to leave with listeners rather than something to be chased.
The album rollout has included pop up performances in Paris, Cannes, Los Angeles, at Montreux Jazz Festival, London, Chicago and Outside Lands. Bridges has also introduced a new live production titled Leon Bridges Presents Happiness Anytime, featuring a DJ, horn section, three backing vocalists and Bridges performing at the front of the stage.
Special guest 54 Ultra will join Bridges for the Sydney, Brisbane, Fremantle and Melbourne dates. The New Jersey based project is the solo work of singer, songwriter and producer JohnAnthony Rodriguez. His latest release, Tell Me, is described in the announcement as a bilingual indie soul track incorporating Latin influences and indie rock.
In Melbourne, Australian funk group Surprise Chef will also join the bill at the Royal Botanic Gardens. The Coburg quartet will bring material from their forthcoming fifth studio album, Frogs In A Pond, which is set for release via Concord Jazz.
The Australian dates are presented by Frontier Touring and Penny Drop.
