Gold Coast / Yugambeh based Irish-folk artist Eimhin (pronounced Ev-an) has returned with his entrancing new single “Fading Ember Hymn”. With his previous track “7 Months In Space” garnering notable industry praise, “Fading Ember Hymn” marks the latest addition to his upcoming debut album Modern Mending (of the heart)

As the name suggests, this ruminative track echoes feelings of melancholy with sweet and solemn orchestrals. Eimhin’s ethereal vocals bring warmth to a chilling soundscape of harp, violin and organ. Layered instruments swell and fade as Eimhin captures the complex feeling of watching a loved one drift from you and having to relinquish control as you realise the gap cannot be closed.

Eimhin shared, “Fading Ember Hymn is about worrying about somebody that you care about. I wrote most of it at the start of a relationship when things were good and finished it some years later after we had broken up. Perspective can be sobering. I wanted it to feel like a prayer, so we opted for using sparse organ and electric piano parts bookended with a lonely violin to evoke a longing.

I wanted the end to feel triumphant somehow, that’s where the melodic shift and the refrain takes place. I like the looseness of it, it feels nostalgic to me.”

Eimhin’s debut album Modern Mending (of the heart) is due out mid-2024.

Originally hailing from Ireland, Eimhin has had quite the musical journey before setting down roots in Australia and establishing himself as a force to be reckoned with in the indie-folk scene. Eimhin explored musical theatre in his teenage years before answering to the call of punk rock, hardcore, glam and emo, playing in multiple bands. Inspired by fashion icons like David Bowie and Prince, Eimhin gravitates toward the unorthodox and challenges restrictive cultural norms through his gender expression.

Since moving to Australia and finding his feet as a folk artist, Eimhin has shared a stage with the likes of First Beige and Peach Fur and scored himself a Video of The Year nomination at the 2023 Gold Coast Music Awards for “Lately”. Eimhin set out on an 11 date EU tour in June 2023 before returning to play an unofficial BIGSOUND showcase. Capturing audiences with his Irish charm and alluring presence, Eimhin is doing his darndest to be his authentic self whilst making some incredible music in the process.
