Chemical Surf and their fellow Brazilians Mevil and Enigmix have teamed up for a new release on Dim Mak‘s house imprint – A Good One. The result is a hypnotizing house single “Bad For U,” featuring a driving bassline, rhythmic kick drums and synths, alongside sultry vocals. As the weather heats up and parties really start to kick off, “Bad For U” is bound to be in heavy rotation on dance floors around the globe. It follows Chemical Surf‘s recent track “KIDS” with Jetlag Music., which dropped on Spinnin’ Records last month, as well as their latest Dim Mak release – “Dale Loca” with Anna Marchesini from October 2022.
“‘Bad For U‘ is a secret weapon in our sets since we made it. It’s making big crowds dance and also working very well in the clubs, and that’s why we are playing this song everywhere. Finally, it’s time to share it with the world. When we received the first idea from Mevil and Enigmix, we felt it could be something special. We worked on all the drums, build-up, construction of the track, and some details on the synths, and also mixed and mastered it later by ourselves. Chemical Surf
Brazilian brother duo Luca and Hugo Sanches are together behind Chemical Surf which has become known for their high energy and rhythmic style. They have recently worked with Kaskade, Steve Aoki and put their own spin on MEDUZA‘s “Tell It To My Heart” and many others. Fresh Wollongong alternative rock outfit Drift release soaring new single Begin just in time for their hometown headline show on June 3.
Swimming in jangly guitar layers and alluring vocal melodies, Begin dives into feelings of heartbreak and the pain of losing someone as an anchor, reflecting on the past and wanting to reclaim the present.
Vocalist Callum McCombie explains, “Begin was written from the depths of that feeling of wanting to hold onto something or someone you love so much that it becomes a detriment. Begin is trying to start again. A new beginning was the end of this period for me, and was a great step towards improving myself and the situation.”
Working with producer and engineer Chris Peruch, Drift fully embrace the sensibility of their shoe gaze and emo influences on Begin, carving out soundscapes that are equal parts powerful and moving for fans of bands like My Bloody Valentine, DIIV and Fiddlehead.
The Begin music video and visual artwork portray the band’s humble beginnings, showcasing a performance aspect where the band are jamming in a homely garage space, juxtaposed against an abstract and chaotic chess match between an angel and the devil. The game ultimately ends in the angels’ favour, depicting the idea that good will prevail. Watch here.
Drift are set to headline a show at Seeker Brewing in Unanderra on June 3 to celebrate the release of their new single, supported by friends in Busted Head Racket and Pictures With Yuki. Tickets are already moving quickly, and are available here. In addition, Drift have also announced they’ll support post-punk band dust on their upcoming et cetera, etc tour in Sydney on June 9, and will have more shows to announce very soon.
Drift is a project that has always set out to create easy listening material with emotional soundscapes. Forming in early 2020, Drift began as the solo shoegaze/emo project for frontman McCombie. Shortly after McCombie started working on music alone, the missing puzzle pieces fell into place when Nelson Thurgate (guitar), Ruben Dragone (drums) and Marley Mondzheyovsky (bass) joined the fold and solidified the outfit as a four-piece.
Drift have since been warmly welcomed into the live music circuit, selling out multiple hometown shows, sharing the stage with fellow Wollongong act TOTTY on a national tour in 2022 as well as showcasing their sound on the Factory Theatre stage at Glider Festival the year before.
The band has been hard at work developing a body of work that will see its release over the course of the year following the positive response from previous single At Last, which saw play on triple j Unearthed, a number of positive Unearthed reviews as well as play on triple j‘s Home and Hosed.

How did the band form?
It was a little after covid we (band members Blake and Jackson) got back in touch years after high school. We’d just go to Blake’s house and play some covers and old favourites (silver chair, nirvana, foo fighters and so on) until we decided to make our own music in the summer of 2022. Shortly after we released our first song officially (under the weather) in august 2022, we introduced keenan, our second Guitarist into the band, who we’d been doing some rehearsals with for a couple months. We all bonded over the love of the same music and having the same energy in our playing. We also love a cold tap.
Where and when did you record and who did you work with?
We recorded crash and burn in early April with Tim from restless noise studio at wrangler studios in Footscray. Great spot always feels like a little piece of home in there.
Do you have further plans for an EP?
We definitely plan on bringing an EP out by the end of the year. And we plan to continue to build on it everyday until then.
Favourite food would probably be gyg if we’re talking takeaway. If we’re talking cooked meals you can’t skip nannas gnocch come over for a bowl you’ll lose your mind. If we’re hanging anywhere good, (only the real ones will know) it’s The Hollow.

Jeremih
He quickly rose to fame in 2009 with his Top 10 debut single “Birthday Sex,” a lewd lullaby of sorts that sounded like nothing else at the time, optimizing the R&B artist’s slinking vocals and explicit wordplay. The slow jam effectively launched the Chicago native’s career, one that has been studded with additional and quite different Top 10 hits – “Down on Me” and “Don’t Tell ‘Em,” among several more gold and platinum singles. “Jeremih” (2009), “All About You” (2010), and “Late Nights: The Album” (2015), his first three LPs were similarly awarded, while “Planez” earned Jeremih a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Performance. “Late Nights with Jeremih” and “Late Nights: The Album” became the first two parts of a trilogy with the August 2016 release of the commercial mixtape “Late Nights: Europe.” The collection was highlighted by “London,” featuring Stefflon Don and Krept & Konan, and “Paris (Who Taught You),” assisted by Ty Dolla $ign. At 15, you could find SK8 in his room writing lyrics, and by his sophomore year, you could find him handing out CDs in high school. The 23-year-old moved to Los Angeles from Omaha, Nebraska, and linked with the venerable Taylor Gang, first breaking into the mainstream with his gold-certified single, “Like That,” with Jack & Jack and opening for revered rap icons like Lil Wayne, 2 Chainz, and Rae Sremmurd. SK8 began building a dedicated fanbase of dreamers who related to his message of seizing every moment long before his eventual move to LA. Shortly after founding his own imprint – Alignment, and formally signing a joint venture with Atlantic Records via James McMillan‘s ART@WAR, SK8 released his major label debut EP, sk8sounds, which was buttressed by the standout singles “Omme (feat. Wiz Khalifa),” “XXX” and “Mood (feat. YK Osiris).” Over a year later, SK8 has turned a new page in his career with his first single of 2021, “Famous (feat. Tyla Yaweh),” and its associated forthcoming project, which finds the rising singer seamlessly blending punk/rock instrumentation with his hip-hop origins, the latest but not last development in SK8‘s rapidly evolving artistry.

Dutch electronic icons Yellow Claw are known for their thumping club records that have fueled dance floors for almost a decade. Sorn
Sorn is a Thai singer and internet celebrity based in South Korea. In 2011, she competed in tvN’s K-Pop Star Hunt and was named winner of the first season. Later in 2015, Sorn was revealed as the first member of the K-Pop girl group CLC, which officially debuted on March 19, 2015, with their debut studio album, “First Love.” In October 2020, she released her first jewelry collection, “Rise,” in collaboration with Kapsul Collective, which was followed up by a surprise-launched first makeup line, “Don’t Waste My Time,” in collaboration with VT Cosmetics. In December of the same year, she was announced as a participant in the trot reality show Miss Trot 2. Sorn personally participated in the cover artwork and music video for her debut single – “Run,” In December 2021, Sorn signed with Wild Entertainment Group as a solo artist, under which she released multiple singles, such as 2022’s “Sharp Objects” and “Nirvana Girl.”
