FORMAT FESTIVAL TAKES OVER THE GOLD COAST THIS APRIL

by the partae February 19, 2022
written by the partae
Saturday April 2 | Doug Jennings Park Main Beach, Gold Coast
TICKETS |

Well Spent & The Yot Club are proud to present Format Festival, a new cutting edge boutique music and arts festival, taking place at an idyllic greenfield site, located next to the Gold Coast Broadwater.

The festival program is a diverse line-up representing a new era in Australian music spread across two epic, undercover stages.

Featuring Confidence Man, Crush3d, Dameeeela, Hermitude, Human Movement, Made In Paris, Motez, Latour, The Jungle Giants, Total Giovanni, Willaris K plus more to be announced.

After a three-year pandemic hiatus, I feel that the landscape for music, events and festivals on the Gold Coast is going through immense changes. The demand is ever-present, and over the years, we’ve seen the introduction of new sounds and exciting ideas and, most importantly, punters yearning for more.

Format Festival has been created purely out of love and excitement for the music; we feel we have identified a gap in the entertainment eco-system on the Gold Coast and wanted to make a (hopefully) regularly occurring niche boutique music and arts festival.

The music direction for our festival has been created to showcase new and familiar sounds; from the get-go, the goal has been to present a grassroots concept that is different to what is currently available in the local festival market.

On our main stage, we will be showcasing some of the biggest names in Australian artists such as Hermitude, The Jungle Giants, Confidence Man, Total Giovanni and more.

On our “sun-stage”, we will be presenting new sounds to the area, which are ever-present in Melbourne and Sydney and iconic night-time fuelled cities worldwide.

Over the weekend of the festival, we will be announcing side show’s during the weekend at venues such as; The YOT Club and elsewhere bar. – Charlie Fisher, (Format Festival director)

Format Festival is not be missed, tickets are sure to sell out quick, so prepare yourself for the ultimate day with friends.

VANFEST IS SET TO RETURN WITH TWO EVENTS CONFIRMED FOR 2022

by the partae February 18, 2022
written by the partae

The sorely missed VANFEST Music Festival is making its highly anticipated return to Forbes NSW with two events scheduled in 2022.

Kicking off on Saturday 9 April, a scaled back 1-day event aptly called Mini-VANFEST will take place as a teaser before the traditional 2-day format returns with a full line up of international and local artists in December.

In support of the live music industry, regional NSW and the local community the VANFEST team is bringing back all the performances, artists, memories, and magic moments that we’ve been missing these past two years and it is set to  be bigger and better than ever!  Kicking off with Mini-VANFEST to give fans a taster of what’s to come later in the year.

Pre-sale tickets will go on sale today at 8am and General Public tickets will be available from 10am on Monday 21st February at www.vanfest.com.au

Mini-VANFEST will host a star-studded line up of some of Australia’s hottest artists, featuring legends like Holy Holy, indie-pop icon Julia Stone, Jarryd James, Eves Karydas, Loretta, the rising reggae-rock powerhouse Rum Jungle, Cloe Terare and local supporting acts, keeping true to the event’s grassroots origins.

“The past couple of years have been devastating for our industry, and the regions, so it gives us great pleasure with the aid of NSW Governments Regional Events program and Festivals Australia, that we have the opportunity to support the industry and the local community by adding a smaller event earlier in the year to get people back outdoors and enjoying the things we have all missed so much,” says Matt Clifton, VANFEST Director.

As an all ages, multi-faceted event, Mini-VANFEST is more than just a music festival. The day will include a wide variety of culture, food, indigenous workshops and experiences beyond big name music acts. Guests are encouraged to bring the family, have a picnic, and enjoy food and beverage from the local regions.

As well as bringing much needed tourism and vibrance to what has been a quiet corner of Australia, VANFEST is supporting the local First Nations community with indigenous workshops presented by the Thumbs Up Foundation, teaching local indigenous youth valuable musical skills, providing a platform of support, and even giving the opportunity to perform on stage at the event and meet the featured artists.

Mini-VANFEST is proudly supported by the NSW Government’s Regional Events Program, Festivals Australia, and Forbes Shire Council.

SLUMBERJACK are pleased to announce their ‘DICHOTOMY’ 2022 Album Tour, presented by Untitled Group and triple j.

With an immense live show conceptualised and built entirely by the duo themselves, expect an audio visual experience like no other as they tour right around the country this April & May!

Newly signed to Sweat It Out (home to RÜFÜS DU SOL, A-Trak, What So Not, and Dom Dolla), the pair have released a series of acclaimed singles including ‘Poison’ and ’Better Off” from their new album DICHOTOMY, which has recently secured the coveted placement of being named triple j Feature Album. The duo will also be performing “Better Off” on triple j Like A Version tomorrow (Friday 18th February) as well as a cover which will be revealed.

Electronic trailblazers SLUMBERJACK have been looked to as innovators of the Australian dance scene for the better part of the past decade, earmarked for success since their inception in 2014. With a stunning array of EPs including the ARIA gold-certified self-titled ‘SLUMBERJACK’, 2017’s ‘Fracture’—an EP which featured a Gold record and led to their first headline tour, 2019 EP ‘SARAWAK’ and 2020’s ‘Black & Blue,’ the duo have steadily evolved into one of the nation’s most awe-inspiring producers and live acts. Now the industry-respected pair present a career-defining moment, with the release of their debut album ‘DICHOTOMY’, a culmination of a near-decade of technical growth and an indication of the sonic direction SLUMBERJACK looks to take for the future.

As the album title aptly suggests, the 12 track album is a multifaceted body of work, showcasing the versatile and enigmatic bass production that SLUMBERJACK has refined over the years. ‘DICHOTOMY’ looks to explore the juxtaposition between their heavy, club-ready sound alongside their more melodic, emotive leanings.

Their live shows, which have been conceptualised and built entirely by the pair themselves, has seen them galvanise at international festivals such as Lollapalooza, EDC Las Vegas, Holy Ship, HARD Summer, Electric Forest, and Ultra Singapore, in addition to prominent Australian events such as Splendour In The Grass, Beyond the Valley, and Groovin’ The Moo.

These events will have a strictly limited capacity so be quick to secure your spot!

THE TERRYS UNVEIL NEW MUSIC VIDEO ‘IDK’ + NATIONAL HEADLINE TOUR ON NOW

by the partae February 17, 2022
written by the partae

Fresh from the release of their knockout single ‘IDK’ earlier this month, rapidly-rising indie-surf act The Terrys have revealed its new music video, filmed in partnership with NIDA.

Packing many-a memorable, punchy and sing-along moments into just 3 minutes, the ‘IDK’ single – as well as today’s new clip – is classic Terrys fun with a hint of attitude. On the song, the band shares:

“’IDK’ pretty much speaks for itself. It’s about those triggers inside you that people can sometime set off and feels like a bit of a punch in the face. It’s a fun take on that, plus we wanted to release a fast song people can dance to at our shows after being cooped up for the last couple years,” adding of the video:

“Working with Alexei, Soham and all the other amazing NIDA students was so surreal for us. When we rocked up on set I think we were all a little shell shocked, we’d never been in such a professional environment haha.”

Director Alexei Ymer-Welsby also shares: “Listing to ‘IDK’ for the first time, it was impossible to not hear The Terrys’ free-wheeling rebelliousness, their playful spirit and their warm embrace of life’s simple pleasures. This was our inspiration for the concept that is the ‘IDK’ video.”

Production Designer: Soham Apte
Cinematographer: Zeke Collins

1st AC: Annalise Kafetzi
2nd AC: Beth Jackson

Barely two months into 2022 and The Terrys have a lot to celebrate – their national headline tour is in full swing and continuing to sell out dates and their acclaimed 2021 single ‘Our Paradise’ recently came in at #76 in triple j’s Hottest 100. Meanwhile, the band’s recent ‘IDK’ release has also found a home across the triple j waves, streaming services (including playlist additions to the tune of New Music Friday AU/NZ, All New Rock, The New Rock, New Music Daily and the cover of Local Noise) and music media such as NME Australia, AU Review (Track of the Week), MILKY, Hysteria and more.

With more music in the pipeline and their brood of Terrydactyls continuing to balloon by the minute, The Terrys are fast headed towards becoming one of the biggest names in the country before too long.

BLUESFEST – THE GREATEST GATHERING OF AUSTRALIAN ARTISTS IN THE HISTORY OF AUSTRALIAN MUSIC

by the partae February 16, 2022
written by the partae

THURSDAY 14TH – MONDAY 18TH APRIL 2022

BLUESFEST – THE GREATEST GATHERING OF AUSTRALIAN ARTISTS IN THE HISTORY OF AUSTRALIAN MUSIC

Today we proudly unveil the complete playing schedule for Bluesfest 2022. Gates will open in 57 days for our early fans, and music will kick off in 56 days. 105 artists – 6 stages – 200 performances … this is the greatest gathering of Australian Artists in the history of Australian Music.

Peter Noble OAM said today:
“At Bluesfest my team and I never looked back. Sure, we felt the sting of Covid – no-one escaped that – but we always looked forward to the day when we would present Bluesfest again  – and that time is now only weeks away.”

“We have been preparing for this day , and we have some surprises in store. Some of the new infrastructure is already in place, other improvements move ahead with pace, and WE WILL BE READY to welcome you all back safely to our beautiful Bluesfest home at the Byron Events Farm.
FIFTY-SEVEN DAYS … it’s the blink of an eye!
We are all excited – we are buzzing with expectation. We are not opening the gates to an ordinary Bluesfest either. This Bluesfest will be EXTRA-SPECIAL. More spacious and improved festival grounds, an absolutely mind-blowing gathering of Australian talent plus some special guests from New Zealand, the USA, the UK, Africa, and Jamaica!! WOW ! … you will all have a great time.”

“The ticket sales reflect the feeling of the community of music lovers. Our big three weekend days (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) rush ever closer to a sell-out – and if you are coming on these days you may wish to consider coming a day early for Bluesfest Thursday to witness the celebration of our Welcome To Country and be there as the first bands take to the stages and kick Bluesfest off in fine style. You’ll catch the final ever performance of The Cat Empire, the exclusive ‘once-in-a-musical-lifetime’ Honeydripper’s Dylan party with an all-star lineup, and the 60’s ‘revolution’ bands, Spectrum and Tamam Shud, both lit by the incredible Ellis D Fogg 60’s Psychedelic Liquid Lightshow. Or choose to end your Bluesfest stay with our Easter Monday Experience watching the likes of The Teskey Brothers, Pete Murray, The Waifs, Hiatus Kaiyote, Kate Ceberano, Sam Teskey, and Mick Thomas’ Roving Commission and many more. These two days will be more leisurely, and viewing will be easier.
It’s a ‘no-brainer’ – so much talent – so many great artists.
Choose that extra day – and head over here to secure your tickets.”

“Finally, thank you for sticking with us. Here is our Bluesfest 2022 Playing Schedule. See who is playing: on what day, on which stage and at what time!
START PLANNING YOUR BLUESFEST ADVENTURE NOW.
You will be part of the greatest gathering of Australian artists in the history of Australian Music.
As we herald the return of Live Music at a major level, I can safely say you will be witness to an historical event.”

Respect

Peter Noble OAM

MERCI, MERCY SHARES A MOODY, STRIPPED-BACK VERSION OF
‘WHY’D YOU ONLY CALL ME WHEN YOU’RE HIGH?’ WITH VIDEO
+ BRISBANE SHOW NEXT WEEK
Ahead of a string of new releases for 2022, merci, mercy today shares a moody, stripped-back version of Arctic Monkeys’ classic hit ‘Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re
High?’
with an accompanying video.

“I don’t usually like covering songs but I just had to cover ‘Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High’. It just goes so well with me. People are always wondering why I only call them when I’m high! This song has been one of my favourites for so long too, and who doesn’t like the Arctic Monkeys.”

The release drops in the midst of merci, mercy’s long-awaited headline tour dates. Indeed, shows in Sydney and Melbourne have impressed so far (“merci, mercy is a rising star that still has so much to give and there’s no doubt we can expect even bigger things to come,” – The Music). The east coast run, concluding in Brisbane next Saturday, kicks off an impressive slew of shows for merci, mercy, who is also touring with Flight Facilities and Lime Cordiale throughout March, April and May.

merci, mercy’s instantly-catchy previous single ‘Winnie Crush’ was a breezy-feeling dive into the fine line between self-care and indulgence. The song resonated with fans, added to triple j locally and reaching their #1 Most Played Chart, also receiving spins from Jack Saunders at BBC Radio 1 and ZM in New Zealand. The release saw merci, mercy featured on the cover of Spotify’s Front Left, Indie Arrivals and softly, and receive a shout-out from Zane Lowe for Apple Music’s New Music Daily, also appearing on popular playlists New In Pop, Heaps Indie, Pop Chill and Superbloom amongst others.

With over 10 million streams to her name from her debut EP no thank you, no thanks, and press support from the likes of Paper Magazine, Flaunt, Clash and NME, merci, mercy is now looking forward to an exceptional 2022 with a whole host of memorable and unique songs ready to flow.

Dune Rats, Beddy Rays & Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers part of all-ages line-up

by the partae February 15, 2022
written by the partae

After the huge success of last year’s sold out Live at the Bowl show, Arts Centre Melbourne has once again teamed up with Australian youth music not-for-profit organisation The Push to stage another epic all-ages event on Sunday 10 April featuring Dune Rats, Beddy Rays and Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers.

“After staging an epic sold out show at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl in 2021, The Push is stoked to be continuing our partnership with Arts Centre Melbourne again this year. Now more than ever we need to be giving all ages audiences the opportunity to experience live music in a safe and accessible way. We can’t wait to get back out there with thousands of young people again in April,” said The Push CEO Kate Duncan.

Curated with the help of the All-Ages Live at the Bowl Events Team – a committee of the next generation of music industry professionals – this event gives young people the opportunity to experience live music at a low cost in a drug and alcohol-free environment.
Headliners Dune Rats top the bill fresh from polling #49 on this year’s triple j Hottest 100 with ‘Up’ and dropping their latest single, ‘What A Memorable Night’. This will be the first time audiences hear the new track as part of a punchy and engaging set, along with their broad sense of humour that’s as effective as it is immature.

Beddy Rays have been making music together since they first met on the primary school oval back in the day. With a growing loyal fanbase, tracks that leave you desperate for a summer festival and humble, down-to-earth personalities, their music now echoes throughout backyards of Australia.

Channelling Riot Grrrl-era energy with a 2021 spin, Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers are the most natural, unapologetic and damn likeable punk-rockers you’ll meet. Since forming in 2019, the group has amassed a keen following having just cracked one million streams on Spotify.

As The Push is dedicated to supporting young, local and emerging artists, a Victorian high-school-aged artist will be invited to join the line-up. This will give young people aged 15-17 the opportunity to perform in front of a live audience at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl for the first time. Artists can apply here.

This is an all-ages, drug, alcohol and smoke-free event. Attendees under 15 must be accompanied by an adult.

The Push is an Australian youth music organisation and registered charity based in Melbourne. Over three decades we have supported more than 800,000 young people with access to contemporary music programs and events. Our work is guided by our purpose of giving every young person the opportunity to participate and thrive in Australian music. For more information visit thepush.com.au

Live at the Bowl is an open-air performance series at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl running from January – April 2022. From home-grown favourites to international acts, audiences can enjoy a stunning program of music, dance, circus, community-led and family-friendly events right in the middle of Melbourne. Created by Arts Centre Melbourne, Live at the Bowl aims to bring joy to audiences and invigorate the creative sector. As we emerge from yet another year of closure, the second series is a significant moment for live performance.

Tickets to The Push all-ages event will be on sale from 10am this Thursday via artscentremelbourne.com.au

DONNY BENÉT Returns with new single & video ‘Le Piano’ Announces Le Piano EP, out April 1 New Australian tour dates announced!

by the partae February 15, 2022
written by the partae

‘Mr Experience‘. ‘Konichiwa‘. ‘Santorini‘. These songs represent just a small taste of the enigma that is Donny Benét. Today, the Sydney-based composer – hailed and panned by critics as “Prince on a serious budget cut” – returns with a new single and video, ‘Le Piano‘. An intoxicatingly groovy instrumental piece paying homage to, and influenced by, Benét‘s love of funk, city pop and disco. ‘Le Piano‘ arrives alongside the announcement of the Le Piano EP – an instrumental project out April 1, via Dot Dash Recordings / Remote Control Records.

Composed and recorded entirely by himself at the renowned Donnyland Studios in 2021, Le Piano sees Benét masterfully utilise vintage synthesisers and drum machines to present his views on life, love and relationships through the power of song. Of the project, Donny shares: “I wanted to create a short EP of instrumentals reflective of the music that has helped me navigate touring life, and life at home for the past years. For me, I really enjoy the headspace that instrumental music can put you in. You can listen to it in any environment with any degree of commitment. It can be something you listen to on the train, plane, something to have on while you’re doing your chores, working from home, working out or just something to bop along to. As mentioned in past interviews I’m very taken by Japanese artists Hiroshi Yoshimura, Yoshio Suzuki and Ryuichi Sakamoto. Side B of the record is influenced by the effect that these artists have had on my musical approach. Side A is a tip of the hat my love of 12′ funk/city pop/disco instrumentals.”

Hailing from Sydney, Australia, Benét’s 2011 breakthrough album Don’t Hold Back confused and intrigued many, establishing him as a cult figure in the Australian music scene. Benét‘s piece de resistance came in his fourth album, The Don, featuring the breakthrough single ‘Konichiwa’.

An unexpected invite to the Pohoda Festival (Slovakia) in 2018 allowed Donny to embark on his first European headline tour. Returning for a further 4 sold-out tours, Donny had now established a new fanbase in Europe. 2019 saw Donny open for Mac DeMarco in the US and after blowing away audiences he returned in 2020 for his first headline tour.

In between his frenetic touring schedule, Donny wrote and recorded his acclaimed follow-up album Mr Experience, which was released in 2020. Unable to tour, the album was filmed as an online concert, Live Experience. An accomplished bassist, Donny is joined by his band of professionals, The Donny Benét Show band when performing live.

Donny has toured Australia since 2011 and Europe/US from 2018, regularly selling out headline shows and performing at festivals including Rock Werchter, Down the Rabbit Hole, Pohoda Festival, Valkhof Festival, Plissken Festival, Sydney Festival, Darwin Festival, Vivid Festival, Adelaide Festival, MONA FOMA, Panama Festival, Yours and Owls, and Big Day Out.

Spring Loaded Festival @ Hastings Foreshore Reserve Saturday February 12, 2022

by the partae February 14, 2022
written by the partae

Photography & Words: Darren Chan

At Hastings Foreshore Reserve, it was a sunny 28 degrees with a nice sea freeze. The perfect weather for the Spring Loaded festival.

Screamfeeder kicked off the festival playing some memorable tunes “Hi Cs” and “Dart”. Local favourite The Fauves brought their melodic alt rock style with songs like “Dogs Are The Best People”.

Custard then took to the stage. That familiar voice of frontman David McCormack (surely it couldn’t the fact he also plays the voice of  “Bandit” in Bluey)  lead the band through their string of 90s hits that were the youth soundtrack of many people there – “Apartment”, “Music Is Crap”, “Girls like That”, “Pack Yr Suitcases” and  “Anatomically Correct”.

Despite a recent personal tragedy, Killing Heidi shifted the festival up another gear as they delivered an energetic and upbeat performance. The crowd sang along all the songs they wanted to hear from tempo shifting “Superman/Supergirl”, “I am”, “Mascara”, and finishing with “Weir” with a “fake” chorus that fooled everyone for a moment.

Punk rock veterans Frenzel Rhomb entertained the crowd with a relaxed demeanour. After the first song, singer Jason Whalley’s belt broke, and the crowd enthusiastically responded by throwing belts on the stage. They effortlessly punched out the classics  “Never Had So Much Fun”, “You’re Not My Friend”, “Russell Crowe’s Band”, and “I’m Shelving Stacks” injecting some dry humour between songs that kept the crowd laughing. Great fun.

Alternative rock icons You Am I didn’t disappoint fans delivering their 1 hour set with swagger and their trademark sound to a huge crowd of fans. How can you not rock out to “Berlin Chair” and “Cathy’s Clown”?

With a few years since their last performance, the crowd gave a huge welcome to headliner Grinspoon as they came onstage. In a theatrical manner, frontman Phil Jamieson wound the crowd into a frenzy with the band opening with “Dead Cat”. The band delivered a powerhouse set with absolute precision, including “Hard Act to Follow” and ”Lost Control”. They finished the set with their most recognised song “Chemical Heart” complete with pyro. The only way to complete an alternative rock festival.

Enduring Australian music icons Augie March announce Sunset Studies anniversary shows playing the classic album live in full with support from Sally Seltmann and Evan Buckley

Celebrating a belated 21st birthday of their first born release, Australian music legends Augie March are heading back to their roots, taking their debut album Sunset Studies on the road for three East Coast dates in autumn. A string of unavoidable disruptions last year led to multiple postponements and cancellations to the anticipated spectacular’s touring schedule, with only one of two back-to-back RISING shows at the Melbourne Recital Centre going ahead in the last fading glimpses of a return to normal life. Now, almost two years on from the original dates, the beloved five-piece are thrilled to finally reveal a run of rescheduled performances for Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne, playing the career-catalysing album live and in full with support from Sally Seltmann and Evan Buckley at the changing of the seasons this March.

“The Long Wait And See. Violet Fane said all things come to those who wait. The wait is over. And good things come in threes, omne trium perfectum. We are excited to play Sunset Studies, live and complete, in Sydney on Thursday March 17 at The Factory Theatre, Canberra on Friday March 18 at The Playhouse and Melbourne on Friday April 1 at The Croxton Bandroom. As bonus enticement, we’re thrilled that Sally Seltmann has agreed to join us in Sydney and Melbourne, Evan Buckley in Canberra.Wait no longer, time to See.” – Augie March

Released in October 2000, Sunset Studies was the first long player from Augie March. After two EPs and several years’ intensive gigging around Australia, the band had built a burgeoning audience primed for a debut album that would earn respect as one of the most expansive, ambitious and literate Australian musical releases.

The album went gold, it remains a favourite of an unusually diverse population across the planet, and is regularly named as enormously influential. Songs such as ‘Asleep In Perfection’, ‘There Is No Such Place’, ‘The Hole In Your Roof’ and ‘Here Comes The Night’ have all become cult anthems. Sunset Studies was launched at a legendary show for the history books at Melbourne’s Athenaeum Theatre. Since that time Augie March has released six more acclaimed albums and garnered a reputation as one of Australia’s most unique and engaging live acts.

Do not miss Augie March as they dust off this classic album, performing Sunset Studies live in full on the following dates.

Verve is a brand new and historic techno festival coming to Lucerne’s Allmend/Messe 1 arena in Switzerland. From May 20th – 22nd it promises something new and supersized for the city, with cutting edge artists in an innovative indoor space. The first wave of names include Ben Klock, Innellea, Lilly Palmer, Oliver Huntemann, Joris Voorn, Animal Trainer, Denis Horvat, Konstantin Sibold, Miss Monique, Øostil, Pig&Dan, SHDW & Obscure Shape,  The Element, Cattarre, Doma, Gean, Kaleiko, Marco Capone, Pazkal & Vanita with many more international techno tastemakers to come. For tickets, head to verve-festival.ch

Verve is a state of the art venue packed with high end technology. Laser displays take you into another dimension. The sound system is crystal clear up top and punchy down low. The overall style of the vast warehouse is futuristic. All of this makes it a perfect setting for a coming together of true music lovers and celebration of avant garde electronic music.
Across this special festival, which is easily accessible by a train that stops right outside, Verve will welcome 10,000 people, offer more than 24 hours of music and more than 30 of the world’s most innovative techno DJs to play across two indoor stages. The first is a vast main room that will soak you in high end light and visuals, and the second is a slightly smaller space for more intimate but energetic sounds. As well as the music, there will be a culinary world tour that will take you through the best tastes on the planet, while an outdoor area will be a stylish place to catch your breath and chill with a cocktail or two.
Providing the soundtrack will be Berghain mainstay, techno pioneer and unrelenting DJ talent Ben Klock. His big, concrete funk sound is famous the world over and perfect for this sort of festival. German Innellea has the ability to transcend genre with his emotive sets and futuristic sounds. Lilly Palmer brings her contemporary techno sounds after big tunes on the likes of Drumcode and Spannung Records have established her right at the vanguard. On top this comes Dutch hero and Rejected label boss Joris Voorn, long time titan Oliver Huntemann, a special set from ØOSTIL b2b The Element, local Swiss stars Animal Trainer, stripped back and atmospheric techno from SHDW & OBSCURE SHAPE, plus more from techno talents Konstantin Sibold, Pig & Dan, Denis Horvat, Miss Monique, Cattarre, Doma, Gean, Kaleiko, Marco Capone, Pazkal, Vanita.
The festival comes from the Kopflos Agency, a respected, dynamic and dedicated events management agency based in Lucerne. The agency is very passionate about electronic music and has been at the heart of the local scene and now uses all its know-how to launch this much anticipated new event.
Founder of Verve Festival and Co-Founder of Kopflos Agency Omar A.Rahman says, “We have been facing many challenges while planning the festival and organizing all the little details due to the Pandemic. However, we believe it is the right time to announce our Verve Festival in Luzern. The whole industry is not tolerating the situation anymore, and we feel it is our duty to do something and back up the industry.”

Fellow Verve Festival and Kopflos Agency founder Jan Boesch says, ”We have to organize something for the city in Luzern. The whole nightlife suffers enormously from the corona pandemic and less organizers are daring to do something about it”

Verve is the largest festival in central Switzerland with an escapist techno atmosphere. Do not miss.
Early bird tickets are now sold out but for now general sale tickets remain available. But act fast, because after the announcement of the artists of Phase II they will sell out from verve-festival.ch

Introducing multi-hyphenate DJ, producer, radio host and Yuggera woman, dameeeela, who today unveils her highly-anticipated debut single ‘The Shake Up ft. Tjaka‘ with the news of her signings to NLV Records and Collective Artists. LISTEN TO ‘THE SHAKE UP’ HERE.

Raised in Tulmur/Ipswich and now based in Meanjin/Brisbane, dameeeela has steadily amassed a following and reputation as one of the cities most in-demand selectors. An ability to cater to any genre, audience and energy from hip hop to acid to the classics and back again is what brings listeners back time and again to dameeeela; mixes bursting with electric passion and rife with experimentation, combined with ongoing reminders of club music’s origins in Black culture.

‘The Shake Up‘ is an unflinching display of dameeeela‘s craft, demonstrating her ability to carefully layer skittish electro atop euphoric melody, evocative of Detroit techno pioneer K-Hand, suffused with Logic1000 and Moktar’s knack to recontextualise the culture, rhythms, and melodies of the past. As a proud First Nations woman, ‘The Shake Up‘ is a fierce indication of her intrinsic connection to those who came before her.

WATCH: ‘The Shake Up’ (Official Music Video)

In her own words, dameeeela says ‘The Shake Up‘ was, “Made explicitly for the absolute rare moment where you’re dancing eyes shut in some techno/electro induced euphoria and you hear the sound of the ancestors calling you through Tjaka’s electronic didgeridoo, entering a state of connection to the land you’re dancing on. The exciting forceful drops that have you celebrating for a moment, forgetting all else.”

Comprised of brothers Geoff and Jake Fabila, proud descendants of the Djabera Djabera tribe from so-called Western Australia, and a helping hand from guitarist Felix Fogarty, Tjaka loan their slide Digeridoo (the Didjeribone) and Facebass craft to ‘The Shake Up‘. With a path paved by pioneers Charlie McMahon and Tjupurru, their feature showcases the continued groundbreaking experimentation laid by their ancestors.

With the release comes the news of dameeeela‘s signing to NLV Records, of which Founder and Director Nina Las Vegas shares, “I have been in awe of dameeeela since coming across a wildly impressive 4ZZZ mix of her’s when returning to Australia early 2020. Since then, we have built a tight connection through music, mixes and art; we both love to play pretty much every type of club music! Watching her develop as a producer has been equally amazing, so proud to be on this journey with her and release her debut music on NLV Records.”

Echoing her sentiment is Collective Artists’ founder Rebecca Young, who continues, “I am thrilled to welcome the talented dameeeela into the Collective Artists family. dameeeela is an amazing role model to many, and a leader within her community. I’m excited to work with her, Doron at Honeymoon and Nina at NLV Records to continue building her profile in 2022 and beyond.”

dameeeela boasts a live resume that includes warming up stages for iconic artists from Skepta and Tyler, the Creator to Charli XCX, Anderson .Paak, Genesis Owusu, Wiki and Skin On Skin amongst others, including appearances at Splendour In The Grass, Falls Festival, Listen Out, Laneway, Pitch Music & Arts, Groovin The Moo, BIGSOUND and more. Offstage, dameeeela recently launched her own Track IDs playlist on Spotify. Stay tuned for more from dameeeela coming soon.

‘The Shake Up ft. Tjaka‘ is out now, buy/stream it here.

DIVERS ANNOUNCE UPCOMING EP ‘THE SENSORY EDITION’ + REVEAL NEW SINGLE ‘FEED ME’ + ANNOUNCE HEADLINE MELBOURNE SHOW

by the partae February 11, 2022
written by the partae
Image: Ben Schoonderbeek
PRAISE FOR DIVERS:
“This is like a refreshing spray from the hose on a summer’s arvo. Divers quenching my thirst for correct indie rock on the verge of ramshackle….this is a band that impress me on every release. Don’t miss ’em.” – Dave Ruby Howe, triple j Unearthed

“…a unique blend that’s hard to pin down but keeps you hooked from start to finish.”
– Declan Byrne, triple j Home & Hosed

“There’s some bands you just get a good feeling from. Divers are home grown, easy-going but highly motivated young guys with an ear for catchy melodies, homespun lyrics and a passion for the sound they’re creating.” – How Good Melbourne

Rising Melbourne indie-rock, psych and experimental-infused outfit Divers have announced details of their new EP The Sensory Edition today. Out via their new label home Domestic La La on Friday March 4, the EP’s announcement comes alongside the reveal of a new single in ‘Feed Me’, first premiered via triple j Unearthed‘s TOPS last night. The group have also announced a hometown headline show celebrating the EP, set to go down at The Tote on March 11. Details below.

On today’s new track, the band shares:

“This is our first song that talks about a specific topic. ‘Feed Me’ is about mainstream media and social media outlets feeding you distracting and mind numbing content with or without you knowing — inevitably shaping you into a bot.”

Aptly named, Divers aim to take hold of the listener’s complete sensory experience on The Sensory Edition, guiding listeners to feel something beyond just aurally listening to the music. The songs themselves are designed to transport the listener out of their day-to-day grind and into the world of Divers through etherial synths and aspirational melodies. Ultimately, The Sensory Edition is a multi-faceted experience designed for complete sensory overload.

On the EP, Divers add: “The Sensory Edition was written and recorded during that brutal 3-4 month winter lockdown in 2020. We pretty much filled our days by sitting down on synthesizers running through pedalboards and going for walks. The Sensory Edition focuses pretty heavily on wiggy sounds which kicked off the idea for the title and overarching theme of the EP. There is also an element of wanting to get away from reality in this EP. We believe that the variety of sounds in these songs would play a large role in the EP, so we spent more time than usual dialling in sounds that would create a vibe/mood for each song. We attempted to create an all-in sensory over load for the listener, designed to teleport the senses and commit minds to the astral plane possibly forever.”

About Divers:
Embodying tethers of Tame Impala, DMA’s, and MGMT, Divers is defined by risk-taking, turning memories and feelings into sound, and, ultimately giving their audience the same joy-boost from listening to their tunes as the group themselves receive from creating them.

After forming in their part share-house, part studio space in outer Melbourne, Divers began making a name for themselves in the local scene with the release of their mesmerising debut EP Now I’m Home.

Since its arrival in late 2020 the release has spawned knockout reviews from triple j staff, support offers from rising Australian acts including Majak Door and The Terrys and over 18,000 streams – all from the DIY efforts of the Divers collective. Now perched on the Domestic La La roster alongside the likes of Dear Seattle, West Thebarton, LOSER, The Terrys and Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers and poised to unleash their next EP assault, Divers are set to enter the national scene’s conscious before too long.
