Bastian Bux is back on his own label. The Silver Birds EP is the ninth release on Petit Comité of House and arrives 9 October, with four tracks that cover most of what the label does.
“Taylor Made” opens it, and it’s the most direct of the four: a diva vocal on top of a bouncy house groove, made to get a room moving. “Central Sun” is the opposite. Acoustic bass, a soulful vocal and a sax riff give it a warmer, more reflective feel, and it’s probably the track people will remember longest.
The title track is where the EP picks up. “Silver Birds” pairs a hypnotic vocal with a steady, driving rhythm, and a brass solo cuts through the middle. It’s the one built for peak time. Baum closes things out with the “1998 Dub,” a deeper version of the original that takes its cue from the late-’90s B-sides DJs still dig for.
Bux, who was born in Barcelona, has spent over a decade on a groove-led style of house, and he says the point has always been to make people feel good. That’s the thinking behind Petit Comité, which started as an event series and became a label and a community built around the original spirit of house. It has grown worldwide since then. Releases on the label regularly chart on Beatport, and it’s had backing from respected names in the scene. Only U reached #1 several times and stayed among the store’s best sellers for almost a year.
