ANNOUNCE THIRD ALBUM LO LA RU OUT JUNE 29TH

NEW SINGLE OUT NOW ‘NEVER EVER (FEAT. SARAH)’

LISTEN HERE

The Rubens have announced their third album, LO LA RU – a bold and confident record that effortlessly picks up from where their worldwide hit single ‘Hoops’ left off. The album is out Friday June 29th and is available to pre-order now.

To coincide with the announcement, the group are incredibly excited to release the powerful new single, premiered via triple j’s DRIVE program, titled ‘Never Ever’ featuring Sarah Aarons – a relatable and heart wrenching tale with Sam Margin and Sarah’s voices acting as yin and yang, so different, but so perfectly matched and harmonious within the track.

When Elliott and Sam Margin got an email letting them know that ARIA Award winning, Grammy Award nominated songwriter Sarah Aarons was going to be in Sydney for the holidays, was a fan of theirs and was keen to write a song with them, the guys thought“why not”. At that point, they were on their way to Brooklyn to put the finishing touches on their highly anticipated third album.

The band went into the studio with no expectations. In their mind, the album was done and whatever came out of the session would be an experiment in collaboration, something new for the band, or, much like Sarah’s long list of songwriting credits (LDRU/ZEDD & Alessia Cara/Dua Lipa/Jesse Ware), something for another artist to use.

Elliott said of the collaboration: “The day we met Sarah in the studio, she told us that her Grade 10 teacher introduced her to our song ‘Lay It Down’ and that is what inspired her to do music in Year 11 & 12. We were pretty blown away with that; a good sentiment to start writing a song together.

We actually thought with the album completed we would be writing a song for someone else.  The main chord structure and melody was something I had been fiddling with for a while but couldn’t find the words or story for. After meeting Sarah and having a chat we got stuck into the song, started throwing ideas around. Pretty quickly we realised it needed to be a duet and from there the story started to take shape.

The song became about these two lovers caught in the moment as their relationship drops away. There’s to-ing and fro-ing as they pass blame and second guess their actions before they realise that what they had is already over.”

It wasn’t until the song sat with the band for a few days that they realised just how ‘Rubens’ the track was, and just how much they wanted it on their third record, LO LA RU.

On LO LA RU The Rubens used the success of single ‘Hoops’ as an opportunity to spread their creative wings, pushing their music into new territory that is exciting for them, and hopefully by extension, their audience as well.

The story of the album began at the 2013 Laneway Music Festival, where The Rubens befriended NYC rapper EL-P (Run The Jewels) and his band, which included his Run The Jewels producers/collaborators, brothers Wilder Zoby and Lil’ Shalimar (aka Torbitt Schwartz). In 2017, this friendship turned into a musical collaboration when both producers flew out from the bustling streets of New York City to the band’s newly created recording studio, housed in a World War II communications bunker in the outskirts of Camden in Sydney’s deep South West. It was here that LO LA RU came to life.

Indeed, LO LA RU presents a fully realised sound that picks up on the r ‘n b and hip hop influence that was hinted at on songs like ‘Hoops’, ‘Bitter End’, bringing those stylistic references to the fore, without losing any of the soulful warmth that typified their earliest tracks like ‘Lay It Down’ and ‘My Gun’ and won them the adoration of fans all over Australia and the world.

2018 has already been a huge year for the group. After last year’s October release of the exuberant party jam ‘Million Man’, the first taste of LO LA RU, the band played to local audiences at the likes of The Sydney Opera House and The Forum before embarking on a global tour – one that saw the band sell out shows in Vancouver, Toronto, and Chicago. At the beginning of this month, the band played the London date of their tour to a packed out and ecstatic The Scala.

Indeed, the band are back and eager to build on the excitement of their first two albums,The Rubens & Hoops, that have gone Platinum and Gold respectively in Australia. 2018 is set to be a big one for The Rubens – with more exciting news to be revealed soon!

“A beautifully wholesome homage to love in its purest and fullest form” – Billboard

“Ciaran should – and most likely will – be remembered as one of the all time greats. ‘Sweet Decay’ is blatantly his best work” – The Daily Mirror

Ciaran Lavery has released his new album ‘Sweet Decay’, via AllPoints (James Vincent McMorrow, Novo Amor, Anna Leone). The album includes the singles “13” and “To Chicago”.

A “master of music and words that sear into where it hurts the most,” (No Depression) Lavery has already become an acclaimed singer-songwriter in his native Ireland. Hailing from Aghagallon in County Antrim, he received the Northern Ireland Music Prize for his 2016 album ‘Let Bad In’. This year’s follow up ‘Sweet Decay’ is a self-reflection on personal growth. Featuring performances by Saint Sister (vocals), Rory Doyle (drums – Hozier, Bell X1), Joe Furlong (bass – James Vincent McMorrow) and more, and produced by GRAMMY Award winner Ruadhri Cushnan (Mumford & Sons, Luke Sital-Singh, Half Moon Run, Ed Sheeran), Lavery describes the album as “the sound of pure catharsis.” Since the release of the latest single “13”, Lavery’s total Spotify stream count has surpassed 80 million, as the song has amassed over 170,000 streams to date.

Consistently hailed as an artist “defying the ‘stereotypical singer-songwriter archetype… [with] glints of brilliance” (Irish Times), Lavery will be touring the UK and Europe throughout April and May in support of ‘Sweet Decay’.

BLACK MOTH SUPER RAINBOW share new single & video “Backwash”. New LP ‘Panic Blooms’ due out May 4th via Rad Cult. Tour dates with NIN this June!

by the partae April 17, 2018
written by the partae

With their new album ‘Panic Blooms’ due out on May 4th via Rad Cult, Black Moth Super Rainbow, fronted by TOBACCO, are sharing a new video & single “Backwash“. The band have also just announced their first ever UK lives shows where they will be supporting Nine Inch Nails in London at Meltdown Festival & at the Royal Albert Hall.

A limited editon 7” of the new single “Backwash” is out this week for Record Store Day, which also features Mike Watt & Flea and K doing a cover of BMSR’s song “Drippy Eye”.

BMSR frontman TOBACCO, also known as Tom Fec, shared the following on the visuals for “Backwash“, “The story is a super typical display of the relationship cycle in america.  It’s how everyone I know got together so just wanted to honor them.”

If you haven’t panicked lately, you’re either blissfully ignorant or have gone completely clear. For the rest of us attempting to navigate the political, economical, and cultural carnage, Edvard Munch’s “The Scream” succinctly captures the statue of psychic dislocation. Or N.W.A.’s “The Panic Zone.” Or Black Moth Super Rainbow’s Panic Blooms, the latest disorienting dystopian masterpiece from the experimental pop arsonists that haunt the black-leaved Pennsylvania woods.

For the last decade, BMSR and frontman TOBACCO have explored the periphery of evil and extreme color, alternating between absurdly bright beauty and the slashed throat sinister.  A sound impossible to replicate, as though it burst fully formed from a paisley-painted fire hydrant stationed in hell. They combine the aesthetically gorgeous with the hideously ugly to create a psychedelic uneasiness usually only seen in old oil paintings. What if Goya or Bosch made ravaged vocoder pop? Or a neo-impressionist painter committed himself to creating slow woozy earworms so iridian and vivid you’d think he sliced off an ear in the process.

We know scarcely anything personal about TOBACCO. There’s his government name, Tom Fec. A few photos if you want to Google, most of them in a mask. He’s done enough interviews where he patiently breaks down the creative process and the ideas espoused, but has mostly resisted the soul-snuffing admissions expected from contemporary musicians. In that vein, he’s closer to a Boards of Canada, DOOM, or Aphex Twin—periodically visible but opaque—emotional but unwilling to exploit the self-mythology and cult that cropped up around him.

So maybe this is why Panic Blooms is slightly startling. Never before has TOBACCO been so raw or direct in his lyrics. It’s a fucked up and bleeding account of depression and the shadow side of human frailty, full of gorgeous warped melodies that exist as their own genre, somewhere between late 90s Warp Records, dub, and chopped and screwed codeine drip. It’s not drug music, it’s dragged music, oozing through the muck of the present moment, past mutating the present, demon melodies filtered through the vain search for light.

Encoded in a syrupy fog, TOBACCO’s lines stab with more ferocity than ever before. From the first track, the knives are out and slashing with chimerical violent imagery: mouths bleeding from razor blades stashed in tangerines and the ominous sensation of feeling haunted.  There are sunset curses and diseased plants, sunburn fevers and doomsday downgrades, pink apocalyptic suns and sinister omens. It’s reminiscent of the phrase used to describe surrealism: as beautiful as the chance encounter of a sewing machine and an umbrella on an operating table.

Here we are in 2018, inhabiting a tumorous wasteland with singed nerves and synapses fried from scrolling for far too long. This is what the fear sounds like in its most pristine form. The floral bloom and the toxic wilt, the sound of dreams and nightmares reaching détente, a ride through the void, where the fumes offer all the anesthetic you need.

GOOD MORNING share new singles ‘For A Little While’ + ‘Just A Man’

by the partae April 17, 2018
written by the partae

Good morning share new singles ‘For A Little While’ + ‘Just A Man’ from their new album Prize // Reward to be released on Friday 11th May via Bedroom Suck / Remote Control Records. – listen to them via the images below.

The duo, made up of Stefan Blair and Liam Parsons, are two high school friends who grew up in the outer suburbs of Melbourne and slowly began to spend their weekends tinkering away in a home studio, experimenting with songwriting and recording techniques, slowly perfecting their craft behind closed doors.

After releasing their almost infamous debut Shawcross recordings online, followed quickly by the sophomore Glory, the band went on put together the Good Morning live band and tour relentlessly around Australia, the UK and Europe. Now, Good Morning return with ten songs that express growth, confidence, and experimentation.

Prize // Reward woozes and sways; like treacle slowly dripping off a spoon, if that visual could somehow become audible. While their trademark recording techniques and home studio sound are on show here, the real jaw-dropper is in the band’s knack for songwriting, their simple ability to tug on the listener’s heartstrings and make them stop dead in their tracks, wondering about someone they haven’t spoken to in a while or a lover they left behind.

Competing with earlier single ‘Escalator’ for position as one of the longest songs on the album, ‘For A Little While’ is built on a bed of drum machines, piano chords and cryptic lyrics from one half of Good Morning, Stefan Blair. Those who want to know will have to ask Stefan what they’re about.

Almost the opposite, ‘Just A Man’ is a simple pop song that coasts by in two quick minutes. If you wanna understand the lyrics, you’d have to ask Liam what they’re about.

This new set of singles sees Blair & Parsons demonstrate a unique versatility in their songwriting, swapping roles demonstrated in the earlier ‘Mirror Freak / Escalator’ singles and each trying their hand at penning a moodier ballad and upbeat pop song, respectively. The results are sure to please.

Van Oasis

by the partae April 16, 2018
written by the partae
Where are you currently based? Melbourne
How did you first start playing music and how did you progress into playing live?
I’ve been a drummer all my life and played various other instruments aswell but had an injury at one point three years ago that forced me to stop playing. Couple months when recovering I discovered Ableton and House music and started creating music. It was an alternative to playing actual instruments and aloud me to express myself musically still. Now I can play Instruments again and record them all the time in my tracks but without the injury I would of probably never picked up Ableton and started to make electronic house music.
Please tell a little about yourself:
I am a Melbourne based Producer/DJ under the alias of Van Oasis. Creating music that is a reflection of my love for several genres and styles such as house, disco, Italo and worldly beats. Combining these with my background of percussion and drums, I create unique electronic pieces that cannot be reduced to a single genre.
Your latest EP release entitled “KILLERS//LOVERS” https://soundcloud.com/van-oasis/sets/killerslovers

Vanoasis is full of natural elements and grooving electronic grooves, where and when did you record?
I record this ep in my bedroom with the help of a few friends (producers) and some late nights I produced this really dynamic EP last year.
What programs and equipment did you use?

I use Ableton as my DAW with alot of Sampling from old bargain bin records. I started investing in hardware though as I really found you couldn’t compare the sound of a real Korg M1 piano with a plug in version. So a use of hardware like the M1, a tr-8 is great for laying down drum beats really quickly and have just acquired some new synths with a Roland Ju-06 n Jx-03.

What influenced the tracks on this EP?

Been Djing for nearly two years at the time I was opening my horizons to lots of house music and electro beats. So very housey drum beats and staby chord lines were things that influenced me from the dj side of things but before I started listening to house music I really enjoyed some ambient and moody tracks from producers like Taylor Mcferrin, King Kurle and Tame Impala so there is some influences from these acts I still listen to all the time.

How do you usually go about writing songs?

I have a bedroom studio and I generally like to find samples off old records, sample them and try vibe out something that comes to mind when listening. Sometimes I just sit at my piano or a synth for hours and play around without the intention of making anything and usually something will come out of it and I will try develop them. I like to only make music in the studio though as it becomes the place of creativity instead of taking a laptop around the place making tracks. It feels like a good area to develop sounds.

Have you been working on any new material lately?
I have a next EP with another Melbourne Producer Tony Chocoloney – Together we have made an 80’s inspired disco house record full of fun grooving beats that will sure to tune some heads when it’s released. It is entitled ‘Body Balm EP’ and we are looking very forward to seeing what people think of it.
How has the collaborative process been with Tony?

Tony Is a musical genius and is really inspiring to develop music with. There is laughs and pure brilliants working with him. Together we really enjoy the same house and disco jams and discuss new releases and thing we could remix or work on together as we are just excited to make music for the fun of it.

How did the colab come about?

We just seemed know the same people and meet after been booked together on the same bill one night djing. Thought we would keep in touch and have a jam. When we did we wrote 3 of the 4 songs on the ep in 3 days. We just clicked so well together and will continue to do so.

Where will we be able to hear the new EP?
Well that one is under wraps when and where and how you can listen to it 😉 so you just have to keep on checking in on us to find out.

You run an event brand called HomeTurf, how’s HomeTurf going?
HomeTurf has been a really great way for me to experience and explore the music industry from a booker, promotor, manager and dj perspective. It has been a really organic and flowing journey learning about how a show runs or what is expected in the behind the scenes of running events. Slowly I will keep expanding the brand and hopefully create a label but for now we will keep doing what we are because it seems to be working. Party on!
How did HomeTurf start?

HomeTurf started after seeing a bunch of local talent around me not getting gigs because they didn’t know how to get bookings or where not involved in crews. So I just started running events with my friends and local artists. Then we went a step further doing free mixtapes of producers tracks as a hub to support and showcase some of their talent.

What do you have planned for the rest of 2018?

We have just started diving into booking international acts this year starting with Germans very own Black Loops we did back in January. Continuing to book some bigger acts and try get into as much different clubs and spread the word is the mission for the rest of the year. Hopefully turn HomeTurf into a record label next year though imprinting original records for vinyl aswell as still holding great parties around Melbourne.

Favourite food and place to hangout?

Melbourne is overfilled with places to hang out and eat but I’d say Favourite bar : Palm Royale – Little cocktail bar in richmond that plays some disco tunes, knows my drink orders ( A Harvey Wallbanger with pineapple Juice) and has a tiki theme decor. Very Van Oasis style.  Favourite club : New Guernica – a cozy and interesting club with decor that changes as you walk through. One room is a Carnaval theme dance floor the other a Kitchen rave room, another a private country club quarters where you can have private conversations and relax, and favourite Food spot in Melbourne : Lazer Pig – Wood fire pizza with amazing choices I go there maybe every month with my girlfriend.

The Hard Aches Release Highly Anticipated New Album ‘Mess’ Out Now. Australian National Headline Tour Starts Today.

written by the partae
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXOOgl0wJYQ&feature=youtu.be
“The skilful portrayal of such brutally honest emotion is certainly why Mess will be on repeat around the country.” –themusic.com.au

“This is The Hard Aches at their very best.” – Kill Your Stereo

“This second release shows a burgeoning maturity in the band’s sound and is definitely worth a listen.” – Overdrive Magazine

“Sometimes when you hear an album which wrestles with the issue of mental health, you get an overwhelming wish to just help that artist get through it, because you can’t see them doing it alone. Mess – the second full-length release from Adelaide duo The Hard Aches – feels different.” – Stack Magazine

Adelaide’s indie-punk duo, The Hard Aches release their highly anticipated sophomore album, Mess out now via Anchorhead. To celebrate the release of Mess, The Hard Aches will be kicking off their biggest national headline tour today supported by Antonia and the Lazy Susans and Sincerely, Grizzly.

The Hard Aches teamed up with Melbourne producer Sam Johnson at this studio Holes & Corners, having admired his work over the last few years on records with Camp Cope, The Smith Street Band, and The Bennies. After 3 long weeks and many late nights, the team had crafted 12 new tracks. Following some deliberation, the reigns were handed to grammy award winning engineer William Bowden, who imparted his mastering expertise on the record.

Mess is a collection of songs inspired by the people around Ben and Alex and the experiences they’ve shared together or apart. The album was written with a focus on mental health in a hopeful and positive light.

Ben David talks about the album, “Our brand-new album Mess is a collection of songs inspired by the people around us and the experiences we’ve all shared together or apart. Written with a focus on mental health in a hopeful and positive light. This album is sonically (and creatively) the best representation of us as a band, the album we’ve been working towards creating through years of touring and making music.”

Mess features guest vocal parts from Camp Cope’s Georgia Maq, The Bennies’ Craig Selak, and Long Island’s own Jeff Rosenstock, who happened to be in the country for Melbourne’s yearly punk rock festival, the Poison City Weekender.

Tour Dates

Friday 4th May: Geisha, Perth
Saturday 5th May: The Burdekin, Sydney
Sunday 6th May: Thick as Thieves Day Party @ Revolver Upstairs, Melbourne

Bülent Gürler aka. Butch is a house and tech house legend. Known for his musical ability to blur the lines between mind, body and soul, the German producer’s impressive work ethic is a driving factor in his success. Release-wise Butch is one of the few artists that are able to walk the fine line of quality and quantity, and come out the other end winning every time. A new remix or original from Butch is never far from surfacing, and his latest efforts are a perfect example of the fact.

His latest work has come in the form of ‘Fünfviertel’, a two-track vinyl-only EP written with Ricardo Villalobos under their alias ButRic. Prior to his work with Ricardo was his ‘Countach’ release, a banging single signed to Sven Väth’s Cacoon Recordings. Furthermore, Butch also justteased the artwork for his remix of Basement Jaxx’s ‘Good Luck’. As his three most recent offerings illustrate, the notoriety of Butch is as legitimate as it gets.

Listen to Diynamic Radio Show February 2018 by Butch

Constantly working in parallels – drenched by a potent mixture of juxtaposition and fluidity in both his sets and his productions – Bülent Gürler AKA Butch, fuses the grey-area space between music of the body and mind. With over 20 years consumed by a thirst for electronic music, the Alzey-born, Mainz raised entity has released on leading imprints such as Desolat, Cocoon, Rekids, Sei Es Drum and beyond, while maintaining a solid DJ schedule that’s seen him opening the minds and hearts of crowds at fabric, Time Warp and his continuing residency at Berlin’s Watergate.

22-years ago, a 12 year old Butch received his first record player, some second hand vinyl and obediently burrowed into his room to scritch-scratch and beat juggle, imitating and idolising the masters he saw at the DMC World Championships and the vinyl culture central to its core. Of course, he grew older and louder and continued to broaden his palate for music. Butch got hooked on the art of sculpting beats sometime in the last millennium. He started with baby-steps in 1991 before reaching his current optimum state – a refined style that’s seen him voted as ‘Best Producer’ in Germany’s Groove and Raveline magazines two years in a row, whilst also sitting atop the All-Time Most Charted section on Resident Advisor.

“My further musical influence came from my brother” reflects Butch…”recording the techno mixes from the radio as he was out at night partying”, he says, explaining the gradual transition from boom-bap to 4-4 funk and drive. “I absorb influence and ideas from everywhere. So, as my music and DJ sets contain many styles, I like to make those different styles too.”

Techno heads love Butch, house heads love Butch, as well as the deep and dirty and the light & bright. Few artists flow through genres and emotional landscapes with such ease and fluidity as Bülent, challenging preconceptions of the dance-floor and the expected outcome in the process. The spark behind his excursions is natural: as a music lover he’s always stayed open to different styles and aesthetics. As an artist, he’s always allowed himself to express his take on each genre – it’s true that with Butch, you never know what to expect, other than consistently fresh and unique output.

Butch’s production might have contributed to his rise through the ranks, but it’s his avid work ethic and undying love that gives his success a solid and deep-rooted foundation. Striking a fine line between quantity and quality is no easy task, but this juxtaposition comes easy to an unpredictable talent such as Butch. Holding residencies over the years at venues and clubs such as Sankeys Ibiza and Robert Johnson in Offenbach Germany, Butch continues to squeeze the best out of every after hour party and every club night floor that he holds court over.

Butch might be the hardest-working man in the scene, but it all comes naturally to a man who is first and foremost a music lover by heart. 5 days a week he spends emphatically producing music, as well as performing around the world at various parties, all of whom are looking for the special vibe and touch that Butch brings to his unpredictable, existential sets.

“I like to make people dance and have fun. I’m the captain of the spaceship and I’m driving it. People who come to the show get in the ship – and I take them on a trip. To get into the spaceship, they leave their physical body at the door. You must switch off the real world and switch off the mind. I will do the rest.”

As with any restless entity, Butch is set to further explore pastures new in 2014. He’ll be launching OTHRSIDE and working on more experimental, “psycho-acoustic’ music with friend and percussionist Chris Hohberg. A mixture of sonic soundscapes and electronic structures, the planned album will seek to cast its tracks across the divide of musical consumption and appreciation – an album suited to home listening as much as it is for dance-floor.

Further collaborations are also on the horizon, with a return to making music with friend and cohort Ricardo Villalobos as ButRic – with the two figures being anything but generic, it promises to be another feet twitching, brain melting escapade in Butch’s musical ride.

It’s Butch’s interplanetary connection to the music – and willingness to create out-of-the-box slabs of detailed sound – that maintains his position at the forefront of the underground electronic scene.

For Xavier Rudd, writing music and living his life are one and the same. “I’m literally just singing about the things that are going on around me,” he says of his sublime and soaring indie-folk. Environmental work, veganism, spiritualism, surfing, exploring new corners of his beloved homeland; everything Rudd does, he pours into song. The result is a personal sound that strikes a universal note.

It’s been six years since Rudd’s last solo release, the ARIA #2 and Gold Certified Spirit Bird, and a lot of things have happened in that time. Storm Boy tracks the journey along the way.

To coincide with the release of Storm Boy, Xavier will embark on a national tour throughout the month of August, connecting with his followers and introducing them to his new material. Full tour dates and ticketing information below.

LA’s beat scene leaders, The Glitch Mob, announce their first new single and album in over 4 years

by the partae April 14, 2018
written by the partae

The Los Angeles-based trio comprise of Boreta (Justin Boreta), edIT (Ed Ma), andOoah (Joshua Mayer), and together they combined their different skills into the compellingly collaged whole that has become one of the most beloved live electronic acts, and distinctive recording artists, working today.

After 4 years they are finally back with a brand new album ‘See Without Eyes’, set for a release date of the 4th of May.

First up though is a stunning remix from Canadian DJ and producer Isabelle Rezazadeh aka REZZ of The Glitch Mob’s track ‘I Could Be Anything’ (Feat. Elohim). The rising star has taken the industry by storm with her ground-breaking releases, notably snatching up the crown as Billboard Dance’s Breakout Artist in 2017. Her interpretation of  ‘I Could Be Anything’ (Feat. Elohim) is nothing less than astonishing. A distinctive bass drum permeates the intro of the cut, ultimately intertwining with Glitch Mob’s core production and Elohim’s hovering vocals. The track moves effortlessly toward an analog heavy drop that is sure to captivate listeners across both distinct fanbases.

‘I’m a fan of both artists [The Glitch Mob, Elohim] & when I was sent the original song, I wanted to give it my own twist.’ – REZZ

‘It’s an honor to present the REZZ remix of our new track with Elohim. We are big fans of REZZ — there’s a natural harmony between our sounds. The music speaks for itself.’ – The Glitch Mob

When you think about the Los Angeles beat scene you are talking about one of the more talent-rich scenes to come to prominence this century. It gave rise to acts likeShlohmo, TOKiMONSTA, Thundercat and, of course, Flying Lotus amongst many others. But arguably none of them has reached a bigger audience than The Glitch Mob…

Their highly contagious tracks has been licensed to big profile brands such as GoPro,Audi, Amazon Echo and more; their remix for ‘Seven Nation Army’ by The White Stripes was featured in the trailer for the World War I first-person shooter, Battlefield 1 (it has also clocked in over 27 million plays on Youtube); their 2014 album ‘Love Death Immortality’ debuted at #1 on the Billboard Independent Albums Chart andBillboard Dance/Electronic Albums Chart, and they have sold over 300 000 copies of their albums.

The Glitch Mob have also announced a string of international dates with an entirely new live show entitled ‘The Blade 2.0’, a new concept designed by Martin Phillips(Daft Punk, Kanye West, Nine Inch Nails + more).

Watch this space for Australian tour dates…

The Glitch Mob ‘See Without Eyes’ will be released on the 4th of May through Glass Air. Distributed locally through The Orchard.

PRINCESS NOKIA shares new mixtape A Girl Cried Red

by the partae April 14, 2018
written by the partae

Today Princess Nokia – aka shapeshifting New York emcee Destiny Frasqueri – has dropped her new emo-inspired mixtape A Girl Cried Red digitally on Rough Trade Records / Remote Control Records, as well as a video co-directed with longterm collaborator Milah Libin for ‘Your Eyes Are Bleeding‘ from the release.

Princess Nokia has been releasing music via Youtube and Soundcloud since she was in High School and catapulted herself to the next level with last year’s critically acclaimed rap opus 1992 Deluxe – selling out venues across the globe and steadily gaining tens of millions of streams.

“Black people created punk – the band Death was way before The Ramones,” Destiny stated in a recent interview. “If you think about it, the wool has been pulled over our eyes. This is our shit. Very naturally, that’s why we return to it.” Drawing on influences as varied as the introverted acoustic sounds of Elliott Smith to the bombastic pop-punk energy of Paramore – A Girl Cried Red showcases another fully-formed side of Destiny that still taps into the uncompromising feminist ideology of Princess Nokia.

Nahko Reveals ‘Hamakua’ Video

by the partae April 14, 2018
written by the partae

NEW ACOUSTIC EP
HAMAKUA
OUT APRIL 13TH

AN ACOUSTIC EVENING WITH
NAHKO & TREVOR HALL
STARTS THIS MONTH
WITH FIVE SOLD OUT UK DATES
INCLUDING LONDON’S OMEARA – APRIL 23RD

Singer/Songwriter Nahko has released the official music video for ‘Hamakua’. The single is the third from his debut solo album, My Name Is Bear, following the release of ‘Dragonfly’ and ‘Be Here Now’, and is the title track from his upcoming acoustic EP.

The video features never-before-seen home videos of Nahko from when he first began performing and originally wrote the song at age 18. Watch it here.

Nahko said of the video, “Finally, to Hamakua. The breath of the Creator. The birthing place of so many of the popular Medicine for the People songs. The Hamakua coast rolls along the rocky east side of the Big Island of Hawai’i, a place where I lived for nearly a decade; a place that served as the foundation for my awakening.

I teamed up with filmmaker Dom Walczuk again, the same director who made a number of our first music videos and documentaries on the Big Island, which now have millions of views, and we schemed to tell a reminiscent story of a bear, an island, and a community that grew a young cub and his music. We collected shots that Dom had in the vault from years back and patch worked them with VHS footage I had taken as a teenager of my first open mics and piano recitals. Then we laid foundation shots of who I am now on island, on horseback, in the ocean, to create a juxtaposition of ‘then and now’.

The result is a collage of time well spent and I’m proud to present this visual storyboard that nods to the magic found on the ‘piko’ of the Pacific and within the sounds of my personal journey as a young man. ‘Oi kau ka Iā, e hana i ola honua – while the earth still moves, do all you can. Eo!”

Nahko embarks on his solo acoustic tour later this month, with support from Trevor Hall. A hugely accomplished pianist and guitarist, the shows will bring a different interpretation to both his new solo work and his catalogue with Medicine For The People. Starting on the 18th in Dublin, the tour will include six UK shows, including a sold out date at London’s Omeara on the 23rd.

Over the last five years, Nahko And Medicine For The People have continued to gather dedicated members of their global tribe of likeminded fans as they spread their powerful musical message. They incorporate a variety of sounds, ranging from alternative roots to acoustic rock while promoting social change. Their album HOKA debuted at #10 on Billboard’s Rock Album Chart and #6 on the Alternative Album Chart.

Nahko’s solo album, My Name Is Bear, debuted on a number of Billboard charts on its release in October last year including Independent Albums (#11), Tastemakers (#14), Emerging Artists (#19), Top Album Sales (#43), and the Top 200 Albums. The album also premiered at #1 on iTunes and the headline tour in support of it boasted multiple sold-out dates both Stateside and in Europe.

My Name Is Bear is a 16-track collection that reflects the soul, authenticity and spirit that Nahko’s fans have come to know. It predates Nahko’s rise to iconic status among diehard fans of Medicine For The People. As he puts it, the album serves as a “prequel,” that artfully merges rustic acoustic guitars, upbeat energy, tribal flavors, fiery percussion, and ponderous lyrics.

At the end of the day, My Name Is Bear sets the stage for a whole lot more from Nahko.

Having trickled his first few delectable electronic singles out from his bedroom-studio (or ‘Beatzeria’), and into the world via the Power of The Internet, Pizzagirl reveals his debut medium-length concoction, An Extended Play.

Turning heads across the virtual world and beyond with his brand of emotional electro-bedroom pop, and earning himself champions at DIY, The Line of Best Fit, High Snobiety and BBC Radio 1, this is the first chance to enjoy Pizzagirl’s cunningly crafted gems as a complete collection.

Following the release of Favourite Song, Carseat, Coffee Shop and Seabirds, previously unheard tracks $2.45 and Private Number are exposed to the public. The former is a colourful sample-led collage reminiscent of The Avalanches or SUPERORGANISM, the latter a digital ballad about a computer falling in love with its user.

Not a girl, nor having any affiliations with Pizza, Pizzagirl channels through his music and visuals the extroversion of 80s electronica, late 90s internet culture (just check out his website) and US East Coast sad-indie introversion, calling to mind the likes of Porches, Frankie Cosmos or Alex G.

It’s a small operation. With the help of a thrown together flatpack mini studio, Pizzagirl writes, records and produces all of his music and visuals from the comfort of his home. His best mate shoots his videos and his mum takes his press shots.

Standing solo on stage, accompanied only by his trusty laptop, Pizzagirl displays the lonesome idiosyncrasies of an introvert married with the larger than life extroverted nature implied by his eccentric, zany and often pensive pop tunes. Pensive pop tunes that’ll be accompanying fellow Liverpudlian dreamers, and label mates, Her’s on their UK tour through April and May.

Pizzagirl’s debut EP An Extended Play is out now on Heist or Hit.

THE GOODS
RELEASE NEW EP:

‘MAKE YOUR MOVE’

Out Now Via Bastard Jazz

Comprised of founding members Badmandela and Rosario, along with the more recent addition of vocalist Black Tree, The Goods have proven one of Australia’s most hotly tipped up and coming acts. A trio stemming out of Sydney’s rising soul/electronic scene, The Goods have been awarded critical praise from tastemaking outlets including Complex, MTV, VICE, Indie Shuffle, and more. Today, The Goods are now ready to unveil the next act in their lauded discography with brand a new EP titled ‘Make Your Move.’

Coming via a team up with Brooklyn record label Bastard Jazz, The Good’s ‘Make Your Move’ further explores the band’s trademark sound that combines hip-hop, space funk, low slung house, and soul. The five-track EP documents The Goods’ expansion into faster tempos and broken rhythms, and was created in a much more collaborative spirit than their previous work.

Opening with heavy funk single “OPB,” the project quickly switches gears on downtempo house oriented single “Glow,” which makes clear the project will delve into a myriad of different genres. Stand out track “Faster” is a heady experimentation that fuses trippy bass lines and synth with elements of psychedelic rock that hits home the band’s concept of “space funk.” EP title track “Make Your Move” slides back into house music territory with a four on the floor tempo backed with bass guitar, steel drum, and Black Tree’s jazz-fueled vocals. Closing out the project, “Supposed To Be” finishes off the multi-layer record with a hypnotic production whose subdued vocals and complex soundscape truly captures the versatile sounds The Goods have become renowned for.

If this if your first introduction to The Goods, the band emerged on the Sydney music circuit only two short years ago in 2016. Aside from their seamless productions, the trio is also renowned for breathtaking live sets that has already seen them share the stage with artists including Oddisee, Onra, and Touch Sensitive. Up next for The Goods, the band are gearing up for the release of their debut artist album out later this year.

Chastity Announces Debut Album ‘Death Lust’ to be released July 13th

by the partae April 14, 2018
written by the partae

SPECIAL BENEFIT SHOW FOR YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH WITH METZ LIVE STREAMING FROM WHITBY

Chastity is a world of its own from the mind of Brandon Williams. Reflecting the working class background of Whitby, Ontario, Chastity’s songs are charged with the ethos of archetypal youth on the fringe. A project more aptly characterized by its intentions than specific sound or medium, Chastity stands to confront the struggles of those existing in the unseen, often silenced periphery. It is an artifact of youth culture constantly working to form community, bridging isolation with collectivity.
Visuals play a meaningful role in this world with Williams using his penchant for crafting consistently sharp, challenging imagery to personalize the narratives running throughout all of Chastity’s work – most discernibly, a call for the disruption of harmful status quo.
It was clear from the release of Chastity’s first demos that this was not “another punk band that can operate at only one speed.” Always concerned with the trending lack of accessibility and inclusivity in public spaces for the arts, the first Chastity show was held in Williams’ own bedroom where, packed wall-to-wall, the police were quickly called. But after the project’s second show supporting DC punk band Priests, Chastity was off to the races, sharing stages with the likes of with Metz, Chelsea Wolfe and Fucked Up. All without a full length recording out.
Since signing with Brooklyn label Captured Tracks, Chastity has re-released those initial demos, along with 2 new singles and an EP, stoking the anticipation of Chastity’s debut full length record, Death Lust.
Releasing Friday the 13th of July, 2018, Death Lust follows the plot of suffering to survival. The album begins on a tortured note with ‘Come’ and builds toward the plummeting finale of ‘Chains’, evolving from start to finish in a crescendo of severity. Chastity explains, “Death Lust is about growing up death obsessed. It’s about the pain that it takes but the capacity that we have to overcome.”
Chasity will be performing a special show in a barn in Whitby with all proceeds going to Youth Mental Health. The show can be live streamed via the Captured Tracks Facebook page at 9:00pm EST.
