Australian folk-pop duo Cali Rd have released their new single ‘Hold On’, a song exploring relationships that have changed and the difficulty of letting go when something meaningful has run its course.
Released through Island Records Australia, ‘Hold On’ was written by Jack Hunt, Sam Hunt, Tom Eggert and Robby De Sa, with De Sa producing. De Sa’s previous production credits include Baker Boy and MAY-A.
The release follows Cali Rd’s first two original singles, ‘Falling Fast’ and ‘Never Love Again’.
According to Cali Rd, ‘Hold On’ reflects on looking back at a relationship and questioning whether things could have been different, while exploring themes of change, growing apart and holding onto something worth fighting for.
The track continues the duo’s combination of contemporary folk-pop, country-rooted storytelling and an understated rock influence.
Cali Rd comprises brothers Sam and Jack Hunt, who were born in Adelaide and raised across Central Australia and Darwin. The brothers began music lessons at six years old and grew up listening to classic rock while watching their father perform in country bands.
During their teenage years, Sam and Jack spent time on a remote cattle farm near Alice Springs, where they continued developing their musicianship. They later moved to Darwin, continuing to write music while working in their respective trades, with Jack working as a carpenter and Sam as an electrician.
The brothers initially performed as The Hunt Brothers, building an online audience through acoustic covers and original performances. They now perform as Cali Rd and have relocated to Sydney.
The duo has amassed more than one million followers across its social platforms, with their music drawing from experiences across Central Australia, the Top End and the New South Wales coast.
Cali Rd have also developed an expanding live schedule. Following performances supporting Jack Botts and their own headline shows, the duo will support Boy & Bear at Hotel Brunswick in Brunswick Heads on September 4 and Kings Beach Tavern on the Sunshine Coast on September 5.
They are also scheduled to perform at St Lucia Block Party Festival at the Great Court of the University of Queensland on September 6, followed by an appearance at NYE on the Hill at The Farm in Victoria on December 30.
