Queens of the Stone Age have announced their ninth studio album, Perfecth, set for release Friday, 30 October via Matador Records / Remote Control Records.
The announcement arrives alongside the release of new single ‘Insignificant Other’, which is described as the album’s centrepiece. The track was recorded in two takes, capturing Josh Homme, Troy Van Leeuwen, Michael Shuman, Dean Fertita and Jon Theodore playing loosely and making space for one another in the moment.
“It’s a song about distance,” Homme says. “About how someone can be your entire world only to simply vanish. And about the strange vertigo of being on the receiving end of that.”
Perfecth was produced by Homme and band member Michael Shuman, with sessions recorded in locations including New Orleans and Los Angeles.
The nine-track album explores different forms of love, including family, friendship and relationships, with the band describing the record as moving through emotions surrounding love, lust, foolishness and the wisdom that comes from those experiences.
The album’s title comes from Homme’s view that the word “perfect” does not accurately describe something that does not exist.
“Nothing in this world is perfect, but everything seems to be ‘perfecth’,” Homme explains.
Perfecth will be available on CD, standard black vinyl, clear vinyl through independent retailers, and a limited deluxe edition. The deluxe edition is a gatefold LP package featuring handwritten lyrics, stationery, stamps housed inside a custom envelope and a bespoke piece of art, available exclusively through the Queens of the Stone Age and Matador webstores.
The album follows 2023’s In Times New Roman…, with ‘Easy Street’ having been released earlier this year as the band’s first new music since that album. ‘Easy Street’ originally debuted live during Queens of the Stone Age’s Catacombs tour.
Queens of the Stone Age will also return to Australia and New Zealand in December, with Primus and Tropical Fuck Storm joining as special guests.
