Forget genre boundaries for a minute – Wilbur Sargunaraj is more interested in what happens when everyone gets on the same dance floor.
Today, The Partae premieres “Dance Around The World”, the new single from the Saskatoon-based artist, musician and cultural storyteller.
Built around salsa, samba, Kuthu, Bhangra and other global influences, the track moves fast, feels good and refuses to sit neatly in one cultural or musical box. It’s bright, rhythmic and unapologetically joyful — the kind of song that makes more sense once you stop analysing it and start moving.
Produced by Cuban-Canadian producer Roberto Linares Brown and featuring Grammy Award-winning percussionist Keisel Jiménez, “Dance Around The World” brings together an international team of musicians to create something that feels genuinely collective.
The track comes from Wilbur’s ongoing Cultural Intelligence (CQ) work, exploring how music can challenge the way we think about culture, identity and the people around us. But there’s nothing particularly academic about the way he delivers it. The message arrives through percussion, movement and a beat that doesn’t ask for permission.
The accompanying video, filmed in Toronto with Station 369, turns the song into a visual celebration of exactly that idea — different people, different backgrounds, one shared rhythm.
“Dance Around The World” is also the title track from Wilbur’s forthcoming 12-track global project, featuring collaborators including Tu Edmonds, Maya Iyer and award-winning Hawaiian vocalist Kaulike Pescaia.
Wilbur has always operated somewhere between music, comedy, culture and education. This time, he’s making the dancefloor the classroom.
