Reece Lemonius – Something I Can Feel (Video)

The dark and compelling single ‘Something I Can Feel’, taken from Reece Lemonius’s ‘Midnight’ EP, is now accompanied by an equally captivating music video. Shot in a flickering red haze, the visuals are suggestive of the need to feel something, even if it hurts. The video complements the vulnerable lyrics of the sombre yet polished R&B track.

MYRY – Stuck In A Loop (Molly Mouse and Jett Polo Remix)

Producers Molly Mouse and Jett Polo have created a remix of MYRY’s soft pop offering ‘Stuck In A Loop’, capturing the ethereal nature of her breathy vocals in the original track and elevating it into a summer anthem through buoyant beats and tropical house elements. We hope to hear more of the synergy between this sibling duo on future collabs.

LAGIOIA – Lord

Swiss R&B prodigy LAGIOIA released the enchanting acoustic ballad ‘Lord’ earlier this month. Cast over delicate guitar melodies, her soulful vocals effortlessly glide between honeyed falsetto and emotive belts as she sings candidly about struggles with self-love. Inspired by Erykah Badu and Alicia Keys, LAGIOIA possesses boundless potential.

Breon S.Y.N.D.E.L – Neon Blue (Video)

The video for Breon S.Y.N.D.E.L’s 2019 release ‘Neon Blue’ is out now, shot in an iridescent haze of purple lights and smoke plumes. The visuals are centered around Breon alone in a small bedroom, conjuring a sense of reflection that supplements the moody percussion, pensive lyrics and dark hip-hop flow of this interlude.

Dylan Joshua – hologramº EP

Canadian hip-hop artist Dylan Joshua transports listeners into the future with the release of his conceptual EP ‘hologramº’. Exploring the topics of mental health and digitalisation, Joshua raps candid lyrics mellifluously, flowing over dark chill-hop beats and atmospheric elements. This transcendent record uncovers more of its complexities with each play.

Anna Aarons – Since You Went Away

Specialising in soulful indie-pop, singer-songwriter Anna Aarons has released her second single of the year, both championing female empowerment and family. ‘Since You Went Away’ is an homage to Anna’s late grandmother; the lyrics portray grief and absence, yet the song is uplifting through its upbeat rhythms and elated melodies.

Holly Abraham – Love Will Come (EP)

Holly’s husky vocals are accompanied by softly strummed guitar and sweeping strings on the title track and EP opener ‘Love Will Come.’ This is the debut project from Bristol-based indie folk pop artist Holly Abraham, who specialises in expressing vulnerable emotions through her lyrics, paired with productions that feel both delicate and grand simultaneously.

DIVE DEEP INTO GUARD’S DEBUT ALBUM THE IDENTIFIED PATIENT
Music News

GUARD shares cathartic debut album ‘THE IDENTIFIED PATIENT’

by the partae June 27, 2020
written by the partae

“Serious music wrapped in a technicolour package and, as Guard says himself, if conceptual pop is up your alley, this will be just your thing.”
– Cool Accidents

”Left-of-center pop music that could be making waves internationally.”
– Tommy Faith, triple j

“The future of pop music is here, so jump on board early”
– Pilerats

Melbourne-based conceptual pop artist, Guard has today released his debut album, The Identified Patient, an eleven-track storybook of healing as he finds peace post-trauma, premiered via theMusic.com.au.

Dark, emotional messages hidden in blissful bops: Guard’s debut album The Identified Patient delivers crisp production alongside smooth vocals and emblematic lyricism. From lamenting the pain of unrequited love on ‘Phantom,’ to discussing the end of toxic relationships in ‘K BYE’, to learning how to put your heart and health first in ‘Styrofoam Heart,’ each track on The Identified Patient delves deeper into Guard’s journey of healing after leaving a toxic relationship he started while living in LA. “This is a breakup record about finding myself and finding acceptance,” Guard explains. That said, it’s also more than that: for Guard, it’s a story of holistically coming to terms with his childhood trauma, experiences with depression, substance abuse and precarious relationships.

In psychology, ‘The Identified Patient’ is a term ascribed to the dark horse of a family or the problem child: two things Guard has defined himself as throughout his life and is only now able to elevate above. More than your average pop artist, Guard’s music is a project fuelled by conceptualisation and personal exploration. The album was conceptually inspired by Damien Hirst’s work, and it’s artwork visually inspired by the works of Julia SH & Nic Sadler’s series Fresh Meat. Guard goes on to explain: “Due to unresolved trauma, I became a product of my feelings. Completely ruled by emotion & constantly falling into codependent relationships. The cover is a reminder to me of who I don’t want to be anymore. I don’t want to be a product of my trauma. Inspired by Damien Hirst, Julia SH & Nic Sadler, I am exploring the addition of psychotropic medication.  I also wanted to explore the duality of life/death, of beauty & pain.”

For the album, Guard worked with a number of producers including featured work from Umru (Charli XCX) for ‘im calling the cops’, and mixing by LA-based producer Tony Rodini (Terror Jr & blackbear).

The Identified Patient follows the release of preceding singles ‘I (Don’t) Miss You,’ ‘Phantom,’ ‘K Bye’, ‘Wine N Die’ and ‘Martyr,’ each having received praise from fans, streaming platforms and media tastemakers alike. To date, they have earned well over half a million streams on Spotify and were featured on editorial playlists such as Chill af, Study Zone, Indie Arrivals & Pop Edge. In addition, he has seen plenty of love from outlets such as  Billboard, Paper Magazine,  V magazine, Tone Deaf, Pilerats, and Cool Accidents as well as triple j and triple j Unearthed. This is also on top of success he’s seen as curator and admin of hugely popular Instagram meme accounts @mycriinge, @mymoistmemes, @dopegrounds and @tindervsreality. Join Guard today on a journey of self-discovery and introspection.

MUSIC FROM THE HOME FRONT ALBUM DEBUTS AT THE TOP OF THE ARIA CHART

by the partae June 27, 2020
written by the partae
Mushroom Group and Bloodlines are thrilled to accept a #1 ARIA Chart debut for the Music From The Home Front album. Music From The Home Front is so much more than just a soundtrack or compilation album – the songs are unique, live, in-iso recordings from the hugely successful Anzac Day concert of the same name, and the album features stellar performances from Jimmy Barnes, Crowded House, Vance Joy, Guy Sebastian, Paul Kelly and many, many more. The 27-track release is book-ended by a welcome speech from Michael Gudinski, and a performance of ‘The Last Post’ on bugle by James Morrison.

The event was conceived and created by Michael Gudinski who said today:

“I’m humbled and proud to receive this #1 award from ARIA on behalf of all the incredible artists who stepped up at the eleventh hour and delivered for Music From The Home Front, Support Act, the RSL and all the front line workers. I want to thank them all, and I’m also immensely proud of the Mushroom Team, Channel 9 and of course all the media that helped promote this most significant event. Music From The Home Front is in the top 5 moments of my life and I will never forget this unprecedented event that will remain etched in Australian music history.”
Music From The Home Front saw an unprecedented line up of 50+ of the most iconic musicians in Australia and New Zealand come together with incredible live-streamed performances – filmed in lockdown – to commemorate our nation’s rich Anzac history and pay respect to the frontline workers fighting COVID-19. With 1.4 million TV viewers, and millions more watching on social media, the album’s rush-release became a priority. A special highlights program was also screened nationally by the 9 Network this past week.

The Music From The Home Front album has been available on double CD and digital download from last Friday. The strictly limited edition triple vinyl will be released on 31 July. It will be pressed on 180g premium vinyl, presented in an individually numbered deluxe gatefold sleeve and signed by Michael Gudinski. It is available to pre-order now.

All proceeds from sales will be donated to Support Act.

Mushroom Group would like to thank the many businesses and organisations who donated their services for Music From The Home Front.

ETE MURRAY SHARES NEW SINGLE AND VIDEO ‘FOUND MY PLACE’

PETE MURRAY SHARES NEW SINGLE AND VIDEO ‘FOUND MY PLACE’

by the partae June 26, 2020
written by the partae

One of Australia’s most loved singer songwriters, Pete Murray has today shared his driving new single Found My Place, a commanding song about offering wisdom to your kids.  The contemplative track is accompanied by a video shot in isolation in Pete’s hometown of Byron Bay that fittingly features his wife and daughter, a gallant move for the habitually guarded artist.

“Know who you are, just know who you are, trust that your compass won’t lead you astray. Just know that home is your heart and your heart’s where I’ve found my place,” Pete croons in that smooth, soulful and familiar voice.

Found My Place was co-written with Gavin Slate in Nashville and recorded with Canadian-born Byron local, Garrett Kato in Byron Bay. Taking sonic inspiration from artists such as JJ Cale and Frank Ocean, the introspective track exudes a warmth and charm that is buoyed by its strong and important message.

Pete explains, “Found my place is about passing on the wisdom of life to someone you love. If you trust your own instinct and stay true to yourself, then life will be fine. It was actually inspired by my own journey in life that I’m passing on to my kids now.”

Filmed and edited by fellow Byron locals, Mos & Co, the video features Pete and his young family on a local beach as the sun sets, perfectly complementing the heartfelt song with the typically private artist offering fans a glimpse into his private life.  Pete explains, “This was a last minute decision to get my wife Mira and daughter Saachi in for the shoot. I’m very protective of my family and keep my family life very private. We thought of just using Mira and Saachi as background silhouette shots, but when we we filmed on the day Saachi came in to shot out of nowhere and did this cute little dance. Once we saw this we knew it had to be in the final edit. The song is about giving wisdom to your kids, so this was perfect in the end.”

The quiet achiever of Australian music is committed to constantly growing and evolving as an artist and gets a thrill from offering fans new and exciting material with each release.  One of few artists with over one million album sales under his belt, Pete isn’t showing any signs of slowing down.  With an impressive haul of robust singles and two EP’s set for release over the next 12 months, this is an artist who is in it for his fans and the music and not necessarily the accolades, jesting, “I hold the record at the ARIA’s for the most nominations never to win.  17 nominations with 0 wins. This effectively makes me the biggest loser in the history of the ARIA’s! Funnily enough it’s actually something I’m really proud.”

Found My Place is released today via Sony Music Entertainment Australia.

Emerging talent Benjamin Trillado graces us with beautiful new single ‘Worth’ + live performances

by the partae June 26, 2020
written by the partae

Known for his heart-wrenching lyrics and unapologetic candour, Melbourne-based singer songwriter Benjamin Trillado combines the story-telling elements of folk with the gritty angst of indie-rock. Following the release of his successful debut single ‘Glue’ and 2019 follow-up ‘First Kiss’, Benjamin is back with yet another melodic stunner on his new track ‘Worth’.

Released today, ‘Worth’ sees Benjamin teaming up with acclaimed producer Jono Steer (Angie McMahon) and Grammy-nominated mastering engineer Joe Carra, for his most honest track yet. An empowering search for self-love and acceptance as a queer person, the track’s restrained production allows space for Benjamin’s ethereal voice to weave through delicate guitar work and tug directly at the heartstrings.

“This song is about understanding your own self-value and accepting that you deserve a place in this world. As a queer person, I grew up struggling to come to terms with my sexuality and often resented myself for it. ‘Worth’ shares the struggles I faced in accepting myself and the empowerment that lies in embracing one’s identity. This song is a love letter to the LGBTQIA+ community and goes out to anyone who needs a reminder to love and accept themselves for who they truly are.” – Benjamin Trillado

Raised in a Filipino household where karaoke was family religion, Benjamin was constantly surrounded by music. At the age of 12, he wiped off the dust from his father’s guitar and spent the majority of his childhood writing songs in his bedroom. He continued to study music into his tertiary years and was mentored by singer/songwriter Ainslie Wills and Killing Heidi’s Jesse Hooper.

With an extensive vocal range that can seamlessly shift between a powerful call to arms or a comforting whisper, Benjamin Trillado has left rooms full of rowdy punters speechless with his effortless delivery and humble stage presence. He has spent the past year playing countless shows in Melbourne and Sydney plus a festival appearance at Newport Folk Festival, garnering a dedicated fan base in tow. So, pour yourself a cuppa, sit back and soak in the ethereal wonder of Benjamin Trillado’s latest single ‘Worth’ and be sure to stay tuned for more to come from this artist on the rise.

GOLDING RELEASE GLISTENING ISOLATION-ANTHEM ‘ALONE.TOGETHER.’

by the partae June 26, 2020
written by the partae

“Alone. Together. provides a bit of a different spin on all the isolation-born records we’ve heard so far in the past few months. Instead of dwindling on the negatives, it instead almost-romanticises it in a way, pairing some incredibly sweet vocals with a gentle collection of rhythms and harmonies” – PILERATS

“Golding encouraging you to loosen the shackles for a night with this very slinky good time.” – Dave Ruby Howe (triple j)

Australian Indie-Electronic duo, Golding, have released their sophomore single ‘Alone.Together.’ – a paradoxical isolation anthem highlighting the blissful side of being locked down with loved ones.

The track came together serendipitously when vocalist Jay Bainbridge was singing off the cuff to his wife during a boozy night in lock down. “It was in a moment with my wife, we were just having fun and enjoying each other in a really normal and natural way. It was weird though because whilst I was fully in the moment with her, I was also able to be outside the moment and realise how relatable and real this same situation must be for so many other people.”

Instantly recognising the track’s potential, Jay rushed to his phone to record the hook. Golding’s other half, Matt Bartlem (previously produced for the likes of Matt Corby, Boo Seeka & Jarryd James), brought the vision to life with his signature production.

With a meticulosity composed sound that draws inspiration from artists such as Alt-J & Phoenix, the duo specialise in dreamy indie-dance that pays homage to the old-school with a subtle nod to a new era.

ANDREA VALLE Releases new Lovergirl EP

ANDREA VALLE Releases new Lovergirl EP

by the partae June 26, 2020
written by the partae

With high praise from i-D, Paper, Notion, Fader and more, and a sound that melds neo-soul, R&B, and a love for Erykah Badu and Ella Fitzgerald, Andrea Valle has served up seven new contenders for song of the summer. Today, the Philly-based songstress drops her sophomore EP Lovergirl via b4 / Remote Control. The seven-song EP includes recently released single ‘Wild,’ which Zane Lowe called “an absolute stunner” on his Beats 1 show, Nylon praised as “sensual and glistening,” and whose video is an otherworldly digital get down directed by Sarah Nicole Francois.

On Lovergirl, Valle expands on her blueprints that “sit in the sweet spot between R&B and neo-soul” (i-D) and her masterwork of lovelorn lyrics. Themes of love, closure and self-worth run through the 7-track EP, almost entirely penned by Valle save for a feature from Brooklyn rapper AJRadico.

‘Wild’ is the lead single from the Lovergirl EP. Valle explains of the single. “It’s saying: are you meeting my standards? Are you meeting my worth? This is what I need and what I require to be in this love.” The track was produced by acclaimed duo Nicky Davey. “Making the track with them was so surreal,” she recalls. “The vibe in the studio sat with me and carried its way through.”

BECCA MANCARI New album The Greatest Part out today

BECCA MANCARI New album The Greatest Part out today

by the partae June 26, 2020
written by the partae

PRAISE FOR THE GREATEST PART

“Shimmering…pointillist…skittering…and serrated-edge.” – Rolling Stone

“Even as she delves into devastating and dark subject matter throughout, Mancari often twists them into songs filled with hopefulness.” – Them.

“Artist of the Month…Fantastic…Akin to Cate Le Bon or Aldous Harding” – Consequence of Sound

“Along with Hayley Williams’ recent debut solo album Petals For Armor [and Brittany Howard’s Jaime], it completes a trifecta of emotionally vulnerable albums by three of Nashville’s most audacious pop stars.” – GRAMMY.com

“Raw and intrepid” – Paste

“Storytelling that’s as captivating as the song’s hummable refrain.” – BrooklynVegan

“Lyrics are a raw but subtle gut-punch” – Nashville Scene

“A hypnotic and atmospheric song that plays with elements of rock, psych, folk and more… A mix between Sharon Van Etten and St. Vincent”  – We All Want Someone To Shout For

Today, Becca Mancari releases her new album The Greatest Part via Captured Tracks / Remote Control, her first project with the label. The deeply personal album navigates the tender crevices of Nashville-based Mancari’s origins, greeting past traumas head on with vivid, unflinching melodies and Becca’s crystalline voice. The album has already earned high praise from Rolling Stone, NPR and GRAMMY.com, who call Mancari one of Nashville’s “most audacious pop stars” alongside Hayley Williams and Brittany Howard. The album includes recently released singles ‘Hunter,’ ‘First Time’ and ‘Lonely Boy.’ To celebrate the album’s release, Becca will perform a livestreamed convert from Grimeys in Nashville tomorrow at 9.30am AEST via Becca’s Facebook and YouTube pages. Both Natalie Prass and Julien Baker will join Becca on stage to sit in on the performance of new songs from The Greatest Part.

Mancari says of The Greatest Part,

“I started writing The Greatest Part at the end of 2018. I was completely exhausted from non-stop touring for over two years and I was struggling to find a vision for the future. I was basically at my rock bottom, but just before the point of breaking, something happened. Melodies and words started coming to me out of nowhere, as if these new songs were given to me. I started to notice that I hadn’t really told my story of coming out yet, or grieved this experience in my life, and I think for a lot of people who have experienced trauma when they were young only know how to survive day by day. This record is about not running from the past anymore, and it’s about having the courage to step out into the bright and beautifully unknown future. Instead of all the heaviness and pain, the greatest part of life is actually living it, and being able to have joy and grief holding your hand at the same time and living through it to see another day.”

BOOTLEG RASCAL REVEAL TASTER TRACK ‘MILK IN MY BOWL’

by the partae June 26, 2020
written by the partae

PRAISE FOR ‘MILK IN MY BOWL’

“Nourishing stomp-down from this duo! Bootleg Rascal are on a roll in 2020.”
Dave Ruby Howe – triple j Unearthed (AUS)

“Bootleg Rascal continue their reign with new single, Milk In My Bowl.”
Pilerats (AUS)

Added to Spotify’s ‘New Music Friday (AU/NZ)’ and ‘Indie Arrivals’ playlists

Bootleg Rascal have just unveiled ‘Milk In My Bowl’ – another taste from their forthcoming staggered EP titled ‘Collaborations of Very Isolated Delinquents “19’ – produced by the band themselves, Ian Pritchett (Boo Seeka, Kim Churchill, Angus and Julia Stone), and Simon Dobson (Little May, STUPID BABY).

‘Milk In My Bowl’ is another shining example of the duo’s ability to push sonic boundaries, while simultaneously delivering on a cohesive sound that is their own. The track consistently maintains its groove-laden pace, before shifting into a slow building bridge that gradually melds the front half of the arrangement with the latter.

Front man Carlos Lara describes the creative process behind the track:

“’Milk In My Bowl’ was another great opportunity for us to experiment with our sound and give something different back to fans. Over the last twelve months, we’ve constantly been pushing the envelope sonically and it’s the most fun we’ve ever had writing and releasing music. The lyrical content matter follows on from ‘We Independent’, where we had removed ourselves from a toxic situation. This account further highlights the realisation that we’re so much better off, and in a way it’s us saying our peace and moving forward”.

After restrictions imposed by the Australian government, the band were forced to reschedule their East Coast capital city shows to mid-late September 2020, while their performance at Big Pineapple Music Festival has been moved to Saturday 21 November.

Since their mid-2013 inception, Bootleg Rascal have released a slew of singles, an EP and two albums, all warmly received by critics and fans around the world, with support from the likes of NME, The Line of Best Fit, Clash Magazine, Pilerats and Wonderland Magazine. Multiple tracks have been added to Spotify and Apple Music playlists, high rotation on triple j and they’ve performed on the station’s esteemed ‘Like a Version’ segment.

The band have continually traversed the globe playing multiple sold out headline shows in France, UK, Holland, Germany, New Zealand and Australia, and performed sold out shows in the USA. They’ve also regularly appeared on major Australian festivals including Falls Festival, The Big Pineapple Festival, Lost Paradise, Hills are Alive, Festival of the Sun and Party in the Paddock.

‘Milk In My Bowl’ is out Friday June 26

OUT TODAY

Artist: Kleur & Keary
EP: For You
Label: Jackie Knows Karate Records

Download high res artwork, press release & press shot: https://bit.ly/2zzblDc

Tracklisting:

  1. For You (Original Mix)
  2. For You (Dub Mix)
  3. For You (Lotrax Remix)

Glasgow’s own Kleur teams up with local lad Keary for the latest release on Jackie Knows Karate Records. ‘For You’ sees the two producers combine their unique sound to bring a dark minimal feel to the label. Pulsing synths and distorted drums create an atmospheric feel to the EPs original mix as it builds up to the vocal hook heard throughout the EP.

Following on from this is the ‘Dub Mix’ which introduces dark piano chords and long drones into the mix perfect for those late night parties in a rave cave.

Lotrax features on the EP contributing a huge remix which delivers summer vibes alongside a catchy bassline, dreamy pads and groovy drums.

Kyle Hawkins, Jackie Knows Karate Records Label Manager, said: “As soon as we heard the original we knew the lads were onto something special and we knew it would be a big release for the label. Then you add Lotrax’s take on the original and you’ve got a winning combination.”

ID&T’s Sensation presents impressive tribute called ‘Monument of Light’ on 4th of July The show is dedicated to hope and celebrating life

written by the partae

Saturday July 4 2020, almost 20 years after the first edition of the succesful dance event Sensation, the renewed concept Beyond Sensation by event organization ID&T should have taken place in the Johan Cruijff ArenA. Like almost all events this summer, Beyond Sensation can’t happen this year so it will be moved to July 3rd 2021. However, ID&T wouldn’t be ID&T if no creative alternative were devised to provide the fans with an unforgettable experience anyway. The ‘Monument of Light’ show will illuminate the Johan Cruijff ArenA and will be captured in a breathtaking livestream that can be viewed from all over the world.

“With this show, we pay tribute to everyone who has kept their spirits up during the lockdown and, above all, to encourage them to celebrate life in full glory again soon. After darkness, comes light. With this fact in mind, ‘Monument of Light’ was born. The show is a creative translation of Sensation, where artistic experience and entertainment have been at the forefront for decades”, says organizer Eric Keijer.

The show starts at 11PM CEST and can be viewed from all over the world via www.sensation.com. The spectacle flows seamlessly into a special 2-hour set by Sunnery James &  Ryan Marciano, which fits perfectly with Sensation’s story line.

The unique shows and collaborations with world famous artists such as Tiësto, Martin Garrix, Armin van Buuren and Swedish House Mafia made the event a major international success. Sensation celebrated successes in dozens of  countries across five continents and was therefore entitled “The World’s Leading Dance Event”.
