After six years away from Australian stages, #1 Dads is heading home.
The solo project of Tom Iansek returns this October and November for an extensive regional Australian tour celebrating the release of his fourth album, Every Little Fire, arriving October 16 via Pieater. Spanning 17 intimate shows across Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia, Western Australia and the ACT, the tour marks Iansek’s first local run since relocating to the UK.
Rather than a full-band production, these performances will see Iansek take the stage alone, revisiting favourites from across the #1 Dads catalogue while introducing new material from what is shaping up to be his most personal record yet.
Speaking about the tour, Iansek said:
“As you may already know I moved to the UK a few years ago but I have thoroughly missed Australia and I have really missed being on the road. I’ve missed the pre-show nerves, chatting to people after shows, the Hume, coffee and car tunes, finding the best place to eat. This tour is special as I’ll be performing by myself, which is fairly new to me and certainly new to #1 Dads, the beauty of this means that I can take the show well off the beaten path, which you can see from all the amazing regional dates. I’m so stoked to be performing all of these shows, playing some new tunes from the album (along with some classics) and I hope you can make it along to one. There’ll be an array of merch too which has all been designed by me.”
Best known as one half of Big Scary and No Mono, Iansek has spent more than two decades shaping Australian independent music, while also producing and collaborating with artists including Maple Glider, Kate Miller-Heidke, The Paper Kites, Ruby Gill and Lisa Mitchell.
His return as #1 Dads follows a period of major personal change, including relocating from Melbourne to London and starting a family. Those experiences form the foundation of Every Little Fire, an album written, produced and mixed by Iansek in small home studios, embracing imperfections, longer takes and a stripped-back recording process that mirrors its deeply reflective themes.
Lead single Already Something offers the first glimpse into the new record, with the album continuing the thoughtful songwriting and understated arrangements that have defined the #1 Dads project since its 2011 debut.
