OLIVER HELDENS BRINGS THE FUNK WITH NEW SOLO RELEASE
Oliver Heldens returns this month with a massive track that’s destined for big radio play and is yet another departure for him musically. With this new release, he continues to be one of the most undefinable, un-pigeonhole-able producers of his generation.
What The Funk sees Heldens explore even more musical territory with a fresh new sound that blends pop, disco and house and combines the ‘70s with the ‘90s and the cutting-edge in seamless fashion. Instantly infectious with its cute flutes, summery guitar licks and sassy shaker rhythms, the track really pops when the soulful vocal cuts in. The euphoria builds gradually in this feel-good tracks, with layers of disco guitars building until we hit the fist-pumping chorus. Sweet synth refrains build the energy higher as the hedonistic chorus plays out. An emotional final break sees a final section of the vocal unfold over big piano chords before we’re back in the spine-tingling chorus.
The track was premiered in a mobile game called BeatFever, continuing Heldens’ strong relationship with the video game world (he has his own channel on Twitch, for instance). The video for the track will be a user-generated piece featuring submissions sent in from his fans on social media. Look out for it soon!
This summer has been Heldens’ biggest to date, with his own residency at the new Hï Ibiza and his Heldeep Stage at Tomorrowland plus all the usual crazy touring schedule, and the magic continues into Autumn as he prepares for his massive ADE party at Paradiso alongside his Studio XL Masterclass for producers during the event.
Oliver Heldens returns to Paradiso with ADE Heldeep Records Show

Line-up details are forthcoming, with Heldens set to be joined by key Heldeep Records artists across the night. Expect to hear lots of exclusive new material from the roster as everyone brings their A-game for ADE and producers often create special bombs to roadtest during the week.

THE SUMMER OF OLIVER HELDENS CONTINUES WITH HIS RED-HOT EDIT OFAEVION’S THE JOURNEY

Oliver Heldens is ready to unleash his latest tried-and-tested weapon: a hot edit of rising London producer Aevion that’s been causing havoc in his sets of late.
When Oliver heard the original of the track from the rising London producer, he instantly heard his own version in his head and set about securing Aevion’s permission to work his magic on the track. Naturally Aevion said yes, no doubt impressed with Heldens’ careful handling recently of many a classic track from yesteryear.
Beginning with an assuming shuffling beat and muted chord progressions teasing things to come, this edit soon springs into glorious technicolour in the dramatic break. Aevion’s bold, cinematic chord progressions are played out by hazy, buzzing synth leads, and when paired with the monstrous snare build it’s like a taste of mid-’90s trance.
There’s no denying where we are when the drop comes, though: right on the cutting-edge of 21st Century House Music. Weighty brass horns play out the commanding main hook as a simultaneous bass throb mirrors the melody. Far-flung vocal snippets punctuate the background as the percussion builds more urgent layers. Heldens strips things down before the break to increase the intensity, taking using right down to just the punchy kick and the rubbery bass before the chords enter once more.
Aevion ‘The Journey (Oliver Heldens Edit)’ is out on Heldeep Recordings now.
