How did you first start playing music?
My earliest memory of playing music is when I sang Avril Lavigne to my class in grade 1 and at the same age, singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow on every bush walk with my family. Really though, my Dad bought me my first guitar when I was 11 and taught me how to play. Soon after, I was busking, playing piano and writing my own songs (including my primary school graduation song haha)! I was also introduced to open mics at the same time and that was my first experience of getting up in front of a crowd.
What’s been happening recently?
Over the past year, we established the Lucy Lorenne band and sold out our debut headline show at The Workers Club Fitzroy as well as played a bunch of other gigs in Melbourne and Geelong! We’ve also been in the studio recording an EP which is set to release this year.
You’re about to release your debut single ‘Geneva’ what influenced the sound and songwriting?
Over the years, I’ve had a combination of singing teachers and mentors ranging from blues and hip-hop artists to jazz and classical singers. I started my music career in Jazz bands and Soul/Motown lineups which has had the biggest influence on my vocal sound and vibe. As for the sound, I have taken the story-telling style from the the country and folk music I grew up listening to and the instrumentation of indie pop rock music I listen to currently.
How did you go about writing Geneva?
I first started writing ‘Geneva’ after leaving Switzerland to study in France. I was 17 at the time and incredibly excited to be in a foreign country and the ‘new kid at school’. Needless to say there was a summer romance and the song came to life shortly after! I didn’t have my guitar with me but to make me feel at home, my host parents lent me a little acoustic guitar that I used to write the song. Then, I spent the next two years refining the song and a made demo a year after that.
Where and when did you record/produce/master and who with?
I recorded ‘Geneva’ with local producer Isaac Barter who recorded, mixed and mastered the track! The band and I went to his cosy home studio to record and it
was our guitarist Gus’ birthday so we had cake and tea and it was super wholesome!
How did you approach the recording process?
First, I bought my own recording equipment to produce a demo for the band, sent them reference tracks to inspire them, rehearsed rehearsed rehearsed, notated a lyric sheet to make sure I didn’t miss any of the vocal nuances and phrasing I wanted to include and then made sure there was plenty of unhealthy snacks for the big days in the studio!
Please tell us about your upcoming EP:
Suffice to say there’s some similarities with the style/instrumentation that Geneva represents but also some significant differences! The 6-track EP is scheduled to release Autumn 2022!
How did the band form?
The band is super special to me. I used to play with Gus Buchanan-Turnour (guitar/ backing vox), Josh Whitty (guitar) and Jay Rose-Ham (keys) during high school. Jade McKentish joined us recently replacing Angus Sumner on bass and Immy Owusu (drums) and I met while playing a jazz gig!
Who are you listening to at the moment?
I’ve pretty much had Lianne La Havas’ album on repeat since it was released in 2020, I’m obsessed with her voice and the production on that record. I’m also currently really into the new Melbourne band Telenova and their captivating debut EP. Oh and who hasn’t turned off Taylor Swift’s version of Red since it was released??
What do you like to do away from music?
A busy day in the life of me would begin with a morning yoga routine, followed by a surf with Dad. I would either spend the day studying for university (I major in Anthropology) or spending time with family and friends adventuring! My other interests include learning languages (oui je parle français) and travelling (when life is normal!)
What’s planned for 2022?
We intend to release another single in the coming months prior to the EP launch mid Autumn. We are desperate to get back on stage as soon as monsieur omicron takes a hike! And of course, the writing journey continues…
Favourite food and place to hangout?
If anyone knows me, they know that I’m the biggest chocoholic! And that my favourite hang out spot is the beach or a really pretty botanic garden!

After promising fans back in January 2021 that if ‘Heatwaves’ win the triple j Hottest 100 they would get Australia themed tattoos on their backsides, one year later they finally have done it with Dave (lead singer) getting an Australian map and Drew (guitarist) getting a koala.
“here’s the deal: heatwaves on top of the pile in @tripleJ hottest 100 = australia tattooed to each of our buttocks, not each cheek obvs. inked on us 4eva as a sign of our love for the greatest sporting country on earth. we are absolutely serious about this,” they wrote on social media last year.
“My mum is going to be livid,” lead singer Dave says in an Instagram video posted on Sunday.
It has been a year since the band promised to get the tattoos (which are the first for them both) and blame covid lockdowns for the delay. “sorry it took so long to get em done covid is a f**ker. X” Dave writes in an Instagram Post.
Glass Animals will be touring Australia later this year with the tour kicking off in Perth at HBF Stadium on Thursday 14 July, followed by Hordern Pavilion in Sydney and John Cain Arena in Melbourne.
Glass Animals are set to play their biggest shows in Australia yet. Having performed massive sell out shows across the USA and UK the ‘Dreamland’ tour is going to be a mind-bending live experience not to be missed.
‘Dreamland’ is the band’s third album and features the smash single ‘Heat Waves’ which most notably was crowned number 1 on Triple J’s Hottest 100 – an accolade not given to a UK band since 2009 with previous winners including Kendrick Lamar and Billie Eilish. They’ve entered the triple j Hottest 100 for a second year consecutively coming in at #23 for their single “I Don’t Wanna Talk”.
‘Heat Waves’ held the No.1 spot on the ARIA Official Singles Chart in Australia for six consecutive weeks, marking the band’s first #1 single globally. The single has spent 51 weeks in the top 10 of ARIA chart, surpassing ‘Dance Monkey’s’ record for the most weeks in the top 10 in ARIA history. The accolades continue with ‘Heat Waves’ becoming the most streamed song in Australia in 2021 with over 110 million streams (2.4 billion globally) and hitting 8 x Platinum.

The Grapevine Gathering was in back in fine form at Rochford Wines in Victoria after an earlier cancellation in NSW. The festival drew thousands of eager people ready to party and soak up the summer vibes.
The festival was an absolute scorcher. In the 34 degree heat and searing sun, Creature Fear played tracks from their EP and new tunes written during lockdown to an enthusiastic crowd. Melbourne locals Rest For the Wicked showcased their eclectic mix of electronica and indie pop.
Things heated up when The Veronicas hit the stage performing crowd anthems “Untouched” and “4ever”. Vera Blue had the crowd in the palm of her hand as she opened her 45 minute set with “Temper”, and included female favourite “Lady Powers”, “Settle”, and “Lie to Me”.
The sun was beginning to set and weather was cooling down when Jungle Giants hit the stage. But they keep the heat up. Festival goers were in full swing as the band performed 110% and celebrated their song “Love Signs” hitting number 18 in the Triple J’s 2021 Hottest 100.
Peking Duk closed the festival with a blazing electronic set accompanied with plenty of pyro, confetti, streamers, and amazing visuals. They certainly set a standard for festival headliners!

Today Toronto punk heroes PUP—comprised of Stefan Babcock, Nestor Chumak, Zack Mykula, and Steve Sladkowski—announce their incredible, ambitious and aptly titled fourth album, THE UNRAVELING OF PUPTHEBAND, out April 1.
THE UNRAVELING OF PUPTHEBAND was recorded and mixed over the course of five weeks in the summer of 2021, in GRAMMY Award-winning producer Peter Katis’ bat-filled mansion in Connecticut. Full of typically furious, ridiculous and anthemic songs, the recording process allowed PUP to push themselves further than ever before. With more time in the studio, they were able to craft their songs sonically in a way they were unable to in the past, and allowed themselves to incorporate new instruments like piano, synths, horns, and more for the first time.
Though made in madness-inducing isolation (aside from Peter and the bats, of course), PUP were remotely joined on the album by Sarah from Illuminati Hotties, Kathryn from NOBRO, Mel from Casper Skulls, and Erik from Remo Drive. The result is not just the next PUP record, but the *most* PUP record.
PUP released “Waiting,” which will appear on THE UNRAVELING OF PUPTHEBAND, upon announcing their forthcoming tour a few weeks ago. (Did you know they’re playing Coachella, too?) Today the band share a new single and music video for “Robot Writes A Love Song.” Written in 15 minutes and with vocals recorded in the backseat of Stefan’s car, “Robot Writes A Love Song” dissolves into a wash of nervous vocals before becoming what is surely the most emotional song ever written from the perspective of a computer being overwhelmed unto death by actual human emotions. PUP released Morbid Stuff in 2019 to critical acclaim, earning a triple j feature album, countless year-end nods from the likes of Pitchfork and NPR, their late-night debut on Late Night With Seth Meyers, the JUNO award for Alternative Album of The Year, the short list for the Polaris Music Prize, and sold-out shows across the globe. On focus track ‘Getcho Mans’ Brian said, “I remember hearing this beat for the first time and immediately astral projecting, me and Warren were very caffeinated in the studio that day and decided to Dragon Ball fusion on this track, this song has a lot of words in it but it’s okay because it makes me feel invincible & I hope it makes you feel the same.”
The 22-year-old paved the way for Brightside with the November release of ‘New Tooth’. The track has already amassed 7.5M+ streams across platforms and over 2.7 million YouTube views on the theatrical self-directed music video. HYPEBEAST described how he takes “an introspective look at himself and encounters his feelings of self-doubt head-on, dropping bars at a rapid-fire pace”. Meanwhile, HipHopDX dubbed it “his best song yet,” writing that ‘New Tooth’ makes the most out of its nearly 4-minute runtime, ending with an outro that makes for a solid cliffhanger.” Not to mention, Bandwagon Asia hailed it as “hard-hitting, introspective, and thrilling.”
Making headlines, Brian recently graced the stage at 88rising’s Head In The Clouds Festival at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA. MTV praised the experience as “pure jubilance,” and wrote, “During headliner and early label-signee Rich Brian’s performance of flamboyant track ‘Edamame,’ backup dancers popped and locked while dressed up as the titular soybean.” He will also make his debut performance at Coachella this April.

Punk-rockers from across the ditch, Sit Down In Front are thoroughly stoked to release their anticipated new EP ‘Fuelling My Rage‘ via Aussie label, Best & Fairest. To celebrate, they’ve dropped another wild video for EP track, ‘Person Of Interest’.
“The phrase “Person Of Interest” is often thought of as someone the authorities are interested in. But in this case, it just refers to someone who would rather put their hard-earned cash in the bank and earn interest rather than risk it on high wire deals.“, explain the band.
The video is set in a fictionalised 1987 version of a skype call (Zype). The Zype call is based on a financial planning workshop facilitated by Elonge Gatesafull, featuring a roster of eclectic participants who are ready to be converted from conservative individuals to high flyer investors.
The rebellious rockers know how to deliver a fast and upbeat punk rock anthem with genuine charm and a good sense of humour. In October 2021, the band released their smash hit ‘Pixie Caramel’ featuring the legendary Tiki Taane which shot to the top of The Rock Radioscope Charts in NZ. This single followed the scorching slice of punk rock political commentary, ‘Don’t Drink Bleach’, released in July 2021.
The three piece is led from the front by frontman and lyricist Cory Newman who uses a wheelchair due to his Cerebral Palsy. His energetic live performances have likened him to “a young Johnny Rotten”. The line-up is completed by talented Guitarist Jackson Clarke, and multi-talented self-taught Drummer Rikki Noble.
Since forming in January 2017, the band, whose members are all still in high school, have released 2 full length records – the self-produced debut ‘Red Light Runner’ in 2018 and the acclaimed ‘Confessions Of A Pie Thief’ in 2020.
Over the years, the band has toured Aotearoa with Aussie shed-rockers The Chats and rock & roll icon Jimmy Barnes, as well as kiwi heroes John Toogood, The D4 and Head Like A Hole.
Best & Fairest is an independent record company founded in Melbourne in 2019. Part of the Native Tongue Publishing family, B&F has worked with artists such as Cry Club, Kingswood, Finn Andrews (The Veils), Squaring Circles and more. Endlessly prolific, multi-disciplinary artist Driftwood. has today released his remarkable new single Bremfields, featuring British rapper Still Greedy. It’s a truly creative and thoughtful track, a glowing addition to this growing artist’s impressive discography, and is accompanied by a visually stunning, self-directed and self-edited music video, also out today. Bremfields evokes feelings of Kanye West at his most exciting, most innovative; classic Ye albums My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and Yeezus have both clearly influenced the electronic/RnB stylings of Driftwood. during the creation of this song, but Bremfields still feels fresh, unique, new. Featuring backing vocals from platinum selling, ARIA nominated Reigan Derry (Snoop Dog, Jay Z, Neo) and mixed and mastered by Dan Vinci (Big Nasty), the song arcs creatively, synths spiking in unexpected moments, while Driftwood. and Still Greedy’s vocals provide the smooth melodic, rhythmic anchor. Speaking on the otherworldly inspiration behind the song, Driftwood. says, “This single is about breaking the fourth wall. It’s about the idea that there could be subterranean energies and other factors operating within other paradigms of consciousness. The video for Bremfields is the perfect visual representation of this exchange and exploration of energies. Slow, deliberate shots of bodies moving purposefully in the just-risen, just-set sunlight pepper throughout closed shots of darkly lit bars and eerie cliff faces, one step away from oblivion. It’s a beautiful triumph, created by an artist completely in charge of his own vision, as Driftwood. explains, “I direct and edit all my videos now. I came up with the idea and the aesthetic behind the visual as well. They represent the ebb and flow, the push and pull, the yin and yang of energies which are manifested within the material universe…my creative team is small, but we get it done. Too many bodies fuck up the flow and a lot of the time are unnecessary for what I am trying to accomplish.”
These are wise words from an artist who’s been in the game long enough to know what works and what doesn’t. To be so immune to the chaos and noise of the modern music industry and so completely, totally immersed in one’s art is no mean feat, but Driftwood. does it all with ease. He offers more wisdom on the subject as he reflects, “I’m just an artist creating pieces of work I want to create and doing it independently. I’m not signed to a major record deal, and up until late last year, I did everything on my own, with the help of a few friends, and without any backing. You don’t need to be signed, or in the cool crowd to create what you want to create. No one has a monopoly on art.”

In a true blend of forces, DVBBS and Galantis team up for their new single “When The Lights Go Down,” enlisting famed Australian singer/songwriter and musician Cody Simpson. Cody Simpson:
The early 2010s were defined by a fast-growing social media presence and swiftly changing broadcasting landscape. Cody Simpson shot to fame during this time, uploading home videos of musical covers to YouTube. His heart-led performances would catch the attention of record executives in California as well as viewers all around the world. The undeniably gifted youngster would go from curating bedroom clips of his favorite artists to signing a record deal and touring the United States within a year. An eagerly anticipated first collection of music was released to the public with the working title “Coast to Coast” EP and peaked at an upright 12th on the US Billboard Chart. Released in 2015, “Free” marked Simpson’s first independent record production and his last full-length album to date. Shortly after its release, Simpson formed Cody Simpson and the Tide and went on to produce a further two EPs titled “Wave two” and “B-sides.” These pieces of work marked a changing sound and a noticeable maturation concerning his music’s demeanor and sonic appeal.
