Sunflower – Reveal Serene Accompanying Video Clip For ‘Thin Skin’

by the partae December 14, 2020

PRAISE FOR ‘THIN SKIN’

“’Thin Skin’ possesses the optimistic hopes and joys of the 60s and 70s. Sunflower bring a dreamy, summer energy that contagiously puts a smile on your face and gives me shivers simultaneously.” – 4.5/5 stars
– Nkechi Anele – triple j (AUS)

“A song that moulds together swaying guitar melodies with rather quite enchanting vocals, deep with this emotional brightness that captures the group’s drive to share these meaningful bursts of indie-pop.”
– Pilerats (AUS)

Added to Apple Music playlist Mellow Days

Following on from the release of their critically praised single ‘Thin Skin’, Brisbane-based indie-pop group Sunflower have just returned with the tranquil accompanying video clip – directed by co-vocalist Lawson Doyle and filmed and edited by Aidan McCowan.

Shot across various iconic Brisbane locations including Fortitude Valley and Victoria Bridge, the clip sees co-vocalist Kahlia Ferguson journeying from busking on the streets of Brisbane to vast lush landscapes. The story follows Kahlia at one of her lowest points, before finding her sense of empowerment, seeing a visible shift in her body language from start to finish.

Kahlia describes the inspiration behind the clip:

“Filming the music video for ‘Thin Skin’ was a liberating experience for me. It’s such a deeply honest song, and I wanted the visuals to reflect that. My side-hustle at the moment is playing acoustic cover songs at venues, and it can completely drain me of inspiration and creativity at times. No matter how much you give yourself to the performance, there are always backs to you and people talk loudly and the manager asking you to turn the volume down. It gets me down when I let it. The whole scenario of the ‘Thin Skin’ music video is based around that experience. The character I play begins solemn and lost and finishes very free and empowered. I like the thought that I’m heading in the same direction. With as much love as we have for Brisbane, this feeling of ‘small town mentality’ was a massive inspiration behind the songwriting.”

To coincide with the release, the band will play at the Mountain Goat Valley Crawl and The Brightside, Brisbane, Stay Gold and Wrangler Studios, Melbourne and Oxford Arts Factory, Sydney in 2021. This continues on from recent performances at Yonder Festival in Imbil, Valley Fiesta, Brisbane and a sold-out headlining show at Black Bear Lodge.

Since release, the track has seen support from Apple Music, triple j, triple j Unearthed, Pilerats, The AU Review and a slew of Australian community radio stations. Previous singles ‘Better Days’ and ‘Get Yourself Together’ also received support from blogs Atwood Magazine (USA), The Music, Beat Magazine, and TV outlets MTV and ABC’s Rage.

‘Thin Skin’ is available worldwide now

Family Piknik announces 2021 edition of festival while releasing All Stars 2020 compilation

Date: 7th & 8th August
Location: Montpellier, France
Family Piknik Festival 2021: https://www.facebook.com/events/213464916956416
All Stars 2020 (Out now): http://fanlink.to/allstars2020
Family Piknik will celebrate 10 years of the festival in 2021 with an array of huge talent
Some of the biggest DJs have contributed to Family Piknik’s legacy over the past decade including Carl Cox, Solomun, Sven Väth, Maceo Plex, Richie Hawtin, Marco Carola, Loco Dice, Luciano, The Martinez Brothers, Jamie Jones, Sasha & Digweed, Joris Voorn and more, the list is pretty long! After a terrible 2020 due to Covid-19, the Family Piknik team are delighted to be working on its 2021 line-up, celebrating its 10th birthday over two-days of open-air extravaganza with some of the best international acts. Many of the rescheduled artists for 2020 can be expected, namely Charlotte de Witte, Adam Beyer b2b Ida Engberg, ARTBAT, Fisher, Worakls Orchestra ect. but there will also be many surprises!
In other news, Family Piknik Music has become a real home for young and promising French talents : Pontias, Abstraal, Albanø, Mood Gorning, B/O/M, Hugo Cantarra, The Dualz, as well as rising international newcomers : Cadillac Express, Gigee, Ki Yera, for example… Quoted as “France’s leading techno label” by Sweet Music, Family Piknik Music showcases a very wide vision for electronic music, from Afro-House to Techno, going through Progressive, Deep, Melodic, Organic, Dark Disco and Electronica. A large range of genres to push quality over quantity and monotony. The label also published its first music video clips, with Pontias ‘Go Bro’ official video scoring more than 35K views under 4 weeks on Youtube and being broadcasted on TV in 50 countries thanks to Clubbing TV.
Time has come to sum up this amazing year with a new compilation. ‘Family Piknik – Casa de Flamingos All Stars 2020’ is a collection of the 15 most marking releases of the year, with key remixes by Hernan Cattaneo, Theus Mago, Popof, Quenum, K.E.E.N.E. and the strongest original tracks released these past months. It also features a 2 hours continuous mix by Tom Pooks himself, recorded during the lockdown. French maestro gives much relief to these 2020 releases, incorporating some additional effects, adding some hypnotic loops to build a timeless mixed manifesto.
Tom Pooks says “2020 has been such a frustrated year for all of us in the music and entertainment industry. We kept on releasing music while most of us on this planet were not allowed to dance and enjoy live music because of the pandemic. It is very painful to release Dance music when you can’t share it behind the decks and have a party going with crazy people in front of you. Releasing this compilation is a way to celebrate the great evolution of our label in this very specific context. It is also a message of hope and faith in the music we do love and support.”
Tom Pooks mix is available to stream and download via Soundcloud.

Dashville announces 3 day New Years Concert series ‘A Fresh Start’ feat. William Crighton & The Bellbird Rats, Wagons, Little Quirks and more…

by the partae December 11, 2020
written by the partae

As restrictions continue to ease around the country, the Hunter Valley’s shadiest outdoor music venue Dashville, is gearing up to host a New Years escape to shake o the vibes of an incredibly challenging year, they’re calling it A Fresh Start.

A Fresh Start will be a three-night concert series held in the lush confines of Dashville, running across 31st December 2020, 1st January and 2nd January 2021. Alongside the live music component will be a range of COVID safe creative workshops, kids activities and a rather interesting installation, known as the Splashville Waterpark.

Today Dashville is pleased to announce the line-up for the three concerts, featuring plenty of great local acts, alongside a number of talented interstate friends, keen to make their return to the hallowed site.

THURSDAY 31st DECEMBER 2020

You can guarantee a blistering set from William Crighton & The Bellbird Rats as they lead you into the new year (featuring a big band full of surprise guests).  Also entertaining you on the night will be local underground superstar punk rockers Bloody Hell, the dark brooding blues-rock sounds of Brisbane trio The Blackwater Fever, and 5 piece funk-pop outfit Viragos will have you getting your groove on from the get-go.

FRIDAY 1st JANUARY 2021

The sweet indie-folk sounds of Central Coast trio Little Quirks will be the perfect tonic as they take to the stage on New Years Day.  You’ll get Magpie Diaries pulling out their sublime cosmic country tunes, the infectious jangly psych-pop-rock of Geelong’s Bones and Jones and a wealth of muso talent coming together when the mighty Dashville Progress Society bust out the big numbers in a blockbuster tribute to the 80’s, narrated by Ben Quinn.

SATURDAY 2nd JANUARY 2021

Their first NSW show in a year will see the almighty cosmic psych-country outfit Wagons return to the Dashville stage, along with internationally acclaimed Blues & Roots duo Hat Fitz & Cara.  Eleven of the Hunter region’s best female musicians will come together as Huntress – paying tribute to the female artists who have shaped their lives, and you’ll be in for a rockin’ treat with Sydney melodic hard-hitters Front End Loader.

Dashville like many venues around the country has battled through a challenging year with valour, pioneering the return of live music in the local region, hosting a number of COVID Safe live music concerts since August, based around the ‘party pen’ formula.

In October Dashville hosted Sky Ball, which became a tribute to their cancelled 2020 festivals, culminating in five nights of live music, with over 30 live performances broadcast online, in a very challenging legal and financial environment.

As we inch closer to the end of the year, organisers are keen and confident to say that the party pens will be a thing of the past, with easing restrictions allowing for more lenient social distancing techniques across the spacious 20 acre site.

WHAT WILL A FRESH START LOOK LIKE?

Each day there’ll be a range of planned activities for people to choose from. We’re currently fine tuning the activities, but to give you an idea:

Practise your slow start in serenity, enjoy decadent breakfasts, morning yoga and relaxation rituals, some creative up-skilling workshops, plenty of arts and crafts, volleyball, skateboarding or hammock time?  You can bring your own plunge pool and we’ll fill it up for a small fee, or dabble in some nearby river swimming.  There’s some lush bush walking in the National Park, or pop over the road for some Wine Country touring, sneaky country pub lunch, perhaps with a sneaky midday busker or two…

As the sun begins to bend beyond the Dashville  ironbarks, we’ll be kicking off an evening concert of four acts.

New Years Eve we have extended trading until 2am, but otherwise each night will come to a close at midnight.

Here are some current key points of info,

  • You can purchase single day tickets or grab a 3-day bundle ticket. All tickets include  the option to camp onsite.
  • It’s incredibly family friendly, kids love it, they can bring push bikes, balls and games with plenty of space to run around in the campground.
  • You’re free to come and go during the days, but please sign in again for COVID tracking when you re-enter the gates.
  • Credit holders from our cancelled events in 2020 can use their dollarydoos for this gig. Don’t know your credit code? Email us at mail@dashville.com.au and we’ll sort it as soon as we can.
  • BYO alcohol is permitted in the campground only, the arena is licensed so there is no BYO inside the concert gates.
  • This is an all age event, under 18’s must be accompanied by an adult (25+) at all times whilst in the arena.
  • Dogs are not permitted.
  • Campground open from 12pm Friday 31st of December.
  • Live Music generally kicks off around 6pm each night.
  • Bird Bath Bar Open from 3pm until 11.30pm each day, except New Years Day where we’re open to 1am.
  • The Swoop Inn will be providing breakfast, lunch and dinner. Food and beverage items are not included in your ticket but you can order and pay on arrival.

Last night, the 16th edition of the annual Music Victoria Awards honoured Victoria’s best acts, albums, songs and musicians of the year in another exceptional awards night. Taking place as part of the Melbourne Music Week Extended program at the Melbourne Recital Centre, the live-streamed event and Channel 31 TV special revealed the seven public-voted winners and 14 industry-voted winners following a handful of previously announced 2020 awards and accolades handed out at last month’s Industry Awards event.

TICKETS HERE Mildlife have today announced they will be taking to the stage in celebration of their ARIA Top 10 album ‘Automatic’. Astral People and Handsome Tours are thrilled to present the Melbourne collective for two shows over the one night at Sydney’s Factory Theatre on Saturday 6th February 2021. Emerging onto the scene in 2018 with their tantalising debut album ‘Phase’, it didn’t take long for Mildlife to transfix listeners and enchant a loyal following. With a unique, genre bending sound that seamlessly weaves between jazz, krautrock and demon beats, Mildlife are firmly cemented in a league all of their own. ‘Phase’ saw them nominated for Best Album at the Worldwide FM Awards in 2018, as well as Best Independent Jazz Album at the AIR Awards in 2019 and walking away with the gong for Best Electronic Act at The Age Music Victoria Awards. Their most recent release ‘Automatic’ represents a sonic maturation for the band as each track feels more disciplined, directional and arguably more danceable. Despite the developments to their sound and song writing approach, they have skilfully managed to maintain that quintessential Mildlife essence across each of these new songs. 'Automatic' debuted at number 8 on the ARIA chart and has seen the four piece collect further acclaim from Sydney Morning Herald, Brooklyn Vegan, The Music, Rolling Stone and NME. The album was spotlighted as Album Of The Week across FBi, Radio, 3RRR and 2SER, as well as enjoying comprehensive DSP support. Following the release of ‘Automatic', the band released a new remix package for record’s title track, produced by the extraordinary Jono Ma (Jagwa Ma, The Dreemas) and the exception Psychemagik. On top of this the band have also shared the exquisite visual accompaniment to ‘Automatic.’ Created with long time collaborator Hayden Sommerville, the music video features the sculptural design work of bassist Tom Shanahan and his mother, Joanne, and was custom built by the band at Mood Workshop. The ever-cohesive aesthetic and feel of Mildlife does not falter in a live setting, in fact it is on stage where the band comes most to life. So, while 2020 has provided far fewer options for live performance it has allowed the band to hone their craft and they couldn’t be more ready and excited to give their new tracks the live performance they’ve been waiting for and to air out their classics. Excitements levels are palpable for these shows. Secure your spot, you don’t want to miss out on this buzz! “Virtuoso space-jazz magic.” The Guardian “My new favourite band from Australia!” Gilles Peterson, BBC 6 “[On Automatic]...Mildlife's second wave is far from mild” The Age “Hearing Mildlife for the first time provides the sort of euphoric experience that countless people chase with hallucinogens, transcendental meditation, and even religion.” Rolling Stone, 4.5 stars “It’s jazzier, groovier and harder-hitting, but somehow also softer to the touch. ‘Automatic’ keeps you guessing right up to the final seconds of each song.” NME SHOWS Sat 6 Feb - Factory Theatre, Sydney (6.30pm) Sat 6 Feb - Factory Theatre, Sydney (9.30pm) ON SALE NOW

Mildlife have today announced they will be taking to the stage in celebration of their ARIA Top 10 album ‘Automatic’.

OCEAN ALLEY ANNOUNCE NEW COVID-SAFE SUMMER SHOWS NATIONAL TOUR RESCHEDULED FOR AUGUST + MORE DATES ADDED

“Lonely Diamond is not just the Sydney sextet’s most sonically diverse and interesting set of tunes to date, but also undoubtedly their best” – Australian Guitar Magazine

“purveyors of a sound that an entire generation of laid-back young Australians has come to resonate with” – GQ

**** “a monster of a record that manages to inspire excitement at every one of its dizzying turns”
– NME Australia

**** “one of Australia’s most accomplished and exciting bands on the scene”
– Rolling Stone Australia

Ocean Alley have announced new COVID-Safe shows in Melbourne, Canberra and Newcastle for the summer, to coincide with the expansion and reschedule of their national headline tour until August 2021 due to varying COVID restrictions across the states.

New dates* on sale 10am AEDT Friday 11 December from oceanalley.com.au

To kick off the New Year, the psychedelic-surf-rockers will perform in Adelaide as part of the Summer Sounds Concert Series, followed by performances at Sidney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne on January 21, Canberra Theatre on February 6 and Newcastle’s Civic Theatre on March 27 with local supports to be announced. It will be the band’s first headline shows in these cities since 2018, as well as the first time local audiences can experience Ocean Alley’s ARIA-nominated third album Lonely Diamond in the flesh.

Now rescheduled to commence in half two of 2021, the band’s Australian Headline Tour will commence at John Cain Arena on August 6, before visiting Adelaide’s Thebarton Theatre on August 13 and 14, Brisbane’s Fortitude Musical Hall for three shows between August 20-22, hometown shows at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion on August 27 and 28, before rounding up at Fremantle Arts Centre on September 11. To date, more than 25,000 tickets have been sold across all shows and Perth’s electrifying Psychedelic Porn Crumpets and indie-pop darlings Dulcie both remain on support duties for the full tour.

In a statement regarding the decision to reschedule, the band shared “The recent easing of COVID restrictions definitely signals hope for the wider entertainment industry after what’s been a difficult year for all. While things are moving in a positive direction, there are still huge variances state-by-state in what is possible across inside and outdoor venues. In light of this, we will be rescheduling our Australian Tour that was due to kick off in February next year until August 2021. It’s not a decision that we’ve made lightly – we appreciate that these shows have been a long time coming, and it may seem confusing given the positivity around recent seated shows that have taken place or been announced. We have been creating the best possible live experience for this tour, and we want you to experience these shows in the way they’re intended… a room full of people, dancing shoulder to shoulder.”

All tickets that have already been purchased will be valid for the new show dates. Any ticket-holders who are unable to attend the rescheduled dates can safely and securely re-sell their tickets via the Tixel marketplace or obtain a full refund from the point of purchase.

Australia’s beloved funk-lords Ocean Alley have spent the past decade creating a unique lane for themselves as a proudly independent band. Following the breakout success of their 2018 album Chiaroscuro led by runaway single and triple j Hottest 100 #1 ‘Confidence’, their third LP Lonely Diamond was released to critical acclaim in June this year and debuted at #1 on the ARIA Vinyl Chart, #2 on the Australian Albums Chart and #3 on the overall Albums Chart. Despite sold out international tours and major festival appearances including Reading & Leeds (UK), Splendour In The Grass (AUS) and Sziget (HU) under their belt, plus more than 350 million catalogue streams, the inner-workings of the band haven’t changed much since their humble beginnings jamming in a Northern Beaches garage -constantly pushing their own boundaries and defying expectations of what their music can be.

KING STINGRAY RELEASE VIDEO FOR ‘HEY WANHAKA’ OUT NOW VIA BARGAIN BIN RECORDS

by the partae December 8, 2020
written by the partae

Following a hugely successful launch of their debut single, new Yolŋu surf-rock band King Stingray have released a mesmerising new video for ‘Hey Wanhaka’.

Premiering at the Clipped Music Video Festival this past weekend, the animated video for Hey Wanhaka  was created by the band’s guitarist, Roy Kellaway, along with artist and long time mate, Kayla Flett. “This clip tells a story of the Stingray man travelling around the Territory.” explains Kellaway, “The Stingray man meets up with the Lorrpu (white cockatoo) and they party and celebrate together. The cockatoo is then putting the word out to everything “Hey! Wanhaka? Whats everyone up to?“.

Since the release of Hey Wanhaka in mid-October, King Stingray have firmly planted themselves in the Australian music scene as ‘ones to watch’, amassing fans in all corners of the country with solid triple j and community radio airplay. They were also crowned triple j Unearthed’s Feature Artist during NAIDOC week.

With more releases in the pipeline, and touring becoming increasingly possible,  2021 is shaping up to be a big year for King Sting. Catch them live at one of their upcoming shows with The Chats and Ruby Fields.

About King Stingray:

King Stingray are a four piece from Yirrkala, North-East Arnhem Land. Formed by Yirrŋa Yunupiŋu (nephew of the late Dr M Yunupiŋu – Yothu Yindi frontman) and Roy Kellaway (son of Stu Kellaway – Yothu Yindi founding member and bass player), King Stingray blend ancient indigenous melodies with surf, indie and funk influences to create a genre of their own, Yolŋu surf-rock.

King Stingray is a story of lifelong friendship, of two cultures coming together. From toddlers in the Yothu Yindi tour entourage in the 90s, to fully fledged Yothu Yindi members today, Yirrŋa (current lead singer of Yothu Yindi) and Roy (current guitarist of Yothu Yindi and Emily Wurramara) have been playing and making music together for as long as they can remember. King Stingray seamlessly blends Yirrŋa’s timeless Yolŋu manikay vocals with Roy’s indie pop credentials (Mary Handsome, Django George).

Young multi-instrumentalist Dimathaya Burarrwanga joins the King Stingray line-up on drums and percussion, with Campbell Messer taking care of bass and back up vocals.

Hey Wanhaka is out now via Bargain Bin Records.

“…if Yothu Yindi is the family business, King Stingray is the fast-growing franchise that threatens to take over.” – The Guardian

“…An instant classic” – Claire Mooney, triple j Unearthed (5 stars)

“Iconic stuff” – Steph Hughes, triple j Unearthed (5 stars)

MIDNIGHT OIL & FIRST NATIONS COLLABORATORS PRESENT MAKARRATA LIVE FEBRUARY/MARCH 2021 SPECIAL THEMED SHOWS WITH INDIGENOUS COLLABORATORS TO HELP ELEVATE THE ULURU STATEMENT FROM THE HEART AND REMEMBER BONES HILLMAN

by the partae December 8, 2020
written by the partae

In early 2021 Midnight Oil will perform a handful of special outdoor concerts called Makarrata Live. At each show, the band will be joined on stage by an incredible line up of First Nations collaborators for a unique concert event featuring music from their #1 mini album The Makarrata Project plus iconic Midnight Oil songs of Reconciliation from throughout their career.

These gigs will seek to elevate The Uluru Statement From The Heart which calls for a Makarrata – or “truth telling” – to account for the theft of lands and displacement of First Nations people. The shows will take place in strict accordance with each state’s Covid19 protocols. Due to the huge logistical challenges involved, these events will only be staged at one venue in SA, QLD, NSW, VIC & ACT making them each a unique live experience. The band is aware that many fans will be disappointed that the tour is visiting such a limited number of locations but Midnight Oil will tour in their own right later in 2021 by which time large indoor shows can hopefully be staged safely and without compromise throughout Australia and New Zealand at least.

Makarrata Live will be previewed at Sirromet Wines (near Brisbane) on Sunday 28 February, before its official world premiere on Monday 8 March at WOMADelaide in South Australia (at which the band will also perform a one-off headline performance on Saturday 6 March). The Makarrata Live dates will then follow on at Hope Estate in the Hunter Valley on Saturday 13 March and Canberra’s Stage 88 on Wednesday 17 March before a grand finale at Geelong’s Mt Duneed Estate on Saturday 20 March. For full tour and ticketing info see below.

“We’re relieved and excited at the thought of finally playing music to live audiences again”, said Midnight Oil frontman Peter Garrett. “Lots of the songs which have struck the deepest chords with our audiences over the years, like Beds Are Burning, Jimmy Sharman’s Boxers, The Dead Heart and Truganini, revolve around Indigenous issues so we’re definitely inspired to be playing a set that combines older songs like those with newer songs that share similar lyrical themes.”

“The most fulfilling part of The Makarrata Project came through collaborating with so many First Nations artists during those recording sessions”, adds the band’s guitarist and keyboard player, Jim Moginie. “I think everyone’s looking forward to seeing what shape all the music from different eras takes as those gifted singers add their voices to it live. We’ve never done anything like this so it feels good to still be pushing the envelope a bit despite everything that’s happened in 2020.”

Midnight Oil originally planned to play some Makarrata Live concerts earlier this year including a headlining slot at Splendour In The Grass. Those plans were unfortunately delayed by Covid19 and were then thrown into doubt by the harrowing terminal illness of long-time bass player, Bones Hillman. However, Bones urged his bandmates to proceed with these live shows to help draw focus to the new recordings the group had all made together late last year. In fact, just a few hours before his tragic passing he received confirmation that The Makarrata Project had debuted at the top of the ARIA Album Charts. It was Midnight Oil’s first new music #1 since Hillman’s very first record with the band, Blue Sky Mining, way back in 1990.

“Bonesy leaves giant shoes to fill but we’ll need to find a new bass player for this tour”, said drummer Rob Hirst. “On this issue Bones was clear: ‘the show must go on!’, he said, ‘as soon as it’s safe to play gigs again’. We’re hoping that these Makarrata Live shows will increase awareness of The Uluru Statement From The Heart and further the reconciliation between First Nations and non-Indigenous Australians, we’ll also be dedicating the tour to Bones.”

“It’s thanks to an extraordinary combination of artists that The Makarrata Project has been elevated beyond the individual talents of this singular band of thinkers and feelers into something truly meaningful, momentous and far sighted.”
– Andrew McMillen, The Australian“Albums commanding as much interest as The Makarrata Project are few and far between and the Oils have seized upon the “unfinished business in Australia”, as Peter Garrett recently called it, to put The Uluru Statement front and centre.”

The Rubens have gifted fans with another incredibly catchy single ‘Masterpiece’ – a song about retrospectively realising you lost The One (“know I got it wrong, really all along, you were just a masterpiece”). Matching the same slick sonic palette as single ‘Live In Life’, ‘Masterpiece’ – also lifted from the band’s forthcoming new album 0202 (Feb 12) – is an irresistible dance across alt-rock, rnb, pop and hip hop genres, colliding into a sound that’s now uniquely their own.

THE RUBENS RELEASE ‘MASTERPIECE’ LIFTED FROM FOURTH ALBUM 0202 – OUT FRIDAY 12 FEBRUARY 2021

WATCH: ‘Masterpiece’ by The Rubens
“The song is about giving someone up, the doubt and eventual regret in realising you got it wrong.” – The Rubens
The release follows the recent news that ‘Live In Life’ – nominated for ARIA Song Of The Year – was the third most streamed Australian song of 2020 on Spotify (behind two songs from Tones & I).

Cementing their status as a band that continues to evolve as songwriters and push the boundaries of alternative rock/pop, new album 0202 – featuring recent singles ‘Time Of My Life’, ‘Heavy Weather’ & ‘Live In Life’ – is a forward-thinking album for a backward year, and an exciting new chapter for The Rubens celebrating the five-piece at their creative peak. With 0202 the band have fully transformed into an alt-rock/pop powerhouse and self-produced an album that will have people re-evaluating what they thought they knew about The Rubens.

As well as finishing their fourth album, 2020 saw the band throw their support behind Year 12 students doing it tough through COVID by launching Study Break – a 1hour online professional development workshop for students interested in pursuing a career in music. The band also announced their 0202 Music Grants in partnership with Ivy League Records & Mushroom Group, awarding ten Year 12 students who demonstrate a passion for music and a desire to further their studies or business ideas $500 each to contribute to their next journey.

The arrival of The Rubens fourth album – almost ten years since their first upload to triple j unearthed as teenagers! – is a credit to their incessant work ethic & the impact the band have made over their incredible career. LO LA RU, featured hits ‘Never Ever (feat Sarah)’ (now Double Platinum), ‘Million Man’ (Certified Gold), ‘God Forgot’ (Certified Gold) and lead to sold out shows and a 42-date Arena tour supporting megastar P!NK. Hoops saw the band sell out headline shows at Hordern Pavilion and Margaret Court Arena and included hits ‘Hallelujah’, ‘Cut Me Loose’ and of course the 4 x Platinum the hit title track, which topped the 2015 triple j Hottest 100, while their debut self-titled LP was home to ‘My Gun’ (Certified Platinum), ‘Lay It Down’ (Certified Gold), ‘The Best We Got’ and more fan-favourites.

A huge testament to their unwavering talent and ability to constantly reinvent themselves,  0202 marks the start of yet another exciting chapter for the band.  “We’re so bloody proud of this album and the way we created it, and we can’t believe how lucky we are to have made it this far. Thanks to all our fans for being there, we can’t wait for you to hear this one!”

Following the recent second postponement of the band’s ‘Live In Life’ tour due to COVID-19, their biggest headline tour to date, the tour was rebranded to the 0202 Album Tour. The new dates, taking place from April – June, 2021, will see the NSW band play metro cities for the first time since their 2018 LO LA RU album shows as well as regional venues across the 24-date run.

The tour will kick off at Qudos Bank Arena (Sydney) on June 12, before moving through to Rod Laver Arena (Melbourne) on June 18, Wrest Point Lawns (Hobart) June 19, HOTA (Gold Coast) June 25, Riverstage (Brisbane) June 26, Adelaide Entertainment Centre July 1, and will finish up in Perth at RAC Arena on July 3. Tickets go on sale Friday 11 December at 10am local time and are available from www.amyshark.com.    Amy Shark sold in excess of 45,000 tickets in 2019 across her metro and regional tours, with her regional tour last week picking up the ARIA for ‘Best Australian Live Act’, paired with her ARIA win for ‘Best Pop Release’ for ‘Everybody Rise’. The CRY FOREVER tour will see Shark level up, rolling out world class production and musicianship as she brings her anticipated new album to life in arenas across Australia.    No stranger to the big stage, Amy Shark has headlined many major festivals, along with winning over the entire stadium at Fire Fight and wowing a huge national audience with her recent NRL Grand Final appearance. Guaranteed to delight fans across Australia, this career defining must-see tour promises to feature stand out performances of songs from the critically acclaimed LOVE MONSTER album, fan faves from the NIGHT THINKER EP and of course brand new music from CRY FOREVER including ARIA winning, platinum accredited ‘Everybody Rise’which is nearing 20 million streams globally and spent 12 weeks in the top 10 Australian airplay chart.     “I am so proud of this album and it’s time to hand these songs over to the fans,” says Shark. “To announce a tour of this size, after the year we have been through, gives me hope that the world is heading back to normality. I will give every show every part of me, this is going to be massive and I am counting down the days to perform.”   CRY FOREVER is the follow up to Amy Shark’s 2018 #1 ARIA Album Of The Year, LOVE MONSTER and is available to pre-order now via Wonderlick/Sony Music Entertainment. Written and recorded between the US, UK, New Zealand and Shark’s home studio on the Gold Coast, her exceptional songwriting is on full display here, co-producing with A-List producers: Dann Hume (ARIA 2018 & 2019 Producer Of The year), M-Phazes (Ruel, Eminem), Joel Little (Lorde, Taylor Swift), Jamie Hartman (Lewis Capaldi, Rag ‘n’ Bone Man), Dan Wilson (Adele, Leon Bridges) and Sammy Witte (Harry Styles, King Princess). CRY FOREVER will also see Shark team up with Grammy award winning artist Keith Urban following on from her latest collaboration with Blink 182’s Travis Barker on new single, ‘C’MON’.    Through Shark’s honest and emotional storytelling, CRY FOREVER is set to be an evolution from her debut album LOVE MONSTER, “I am now a more confident musician and person than the Amy of 2018, and I feel like I am ready to share some moments from my life that I wasn’t previously ok to talk about,” says Shark, “These are some of the most personal and confronting songs I’ve ever written, and I can’t wait to share them with everyone.” And to celebrate the album and tour announcement, Shark has dropped a new track, ‘All The Lies About Me’, featuring her trademark soaring vocals, powerful lyrics and acoustic guitar. “This song is me at my most confused, broken and lonely. It’s not easy hearing things about yourself that simply aren’t true. Sometimes the noise gets too loud, so I had to write this song as it’s the only way I can talk.”   Amy Shark has come a long way since her breakthrough single Adore.  As shared on her Instagram account - in just a few years she has gone from moving 82 tickets in her home state of Queensland, to selling out arena-sized venues all across the country. After bursting on to the global music scene in 2016, her 5 x Platinum single ‘Adore’ put her on the map as one of Australia’s most formidable emerging songwriters. This was followed by 4 x Platinum and number one Australian Airplay Chart hit, ‘I Said Hi’ and the 2019 2 x platinum single ‘Mess Her Up’. Shark’s debut/breakthrough #1 ARIA album and Platinum-certified LOVE MONSTER was recognised in 2018 with four ARIA awards (Album of the Year, Best Female Artist, Best Pop Release, Best Producer [Dann Hume]), and was nominated for another five. LOVE MONSTER went on to become the highest selling album by an Australian artist for 2018.    Undoubtedly, 2021 is poised to be an even bigger year for Amy Shark with the release of her sophomore record and national CRY FOREVER tour.    CRY FOREVER is set for release on April 30, 2021 and is available to pre-order now via Wonderlick/Sony Music Entertainment Australia.   The CRY FOREVER tour will be held with a commitment to a COVID Safe environment.  TEG LIVE will work closely with and comply with all requirements of the public health authorities in respect of these shows.   AMY SHARK ‘CRY FOREVER’ TOUR 2021 Saturday 12 June 2021 | Sydney | Qudos Bank Arena Friday 18 June 2021 | Melbourne | Rod Laver Arena Saturday 19 June 2021 | Hobart | Wrest Point Lawns Friday 25 June 2021 | Gold Coast | HOTA Saturday 26 June 2021 | Brisbane | Riverstage Thursday 1 July 2021 | Adelaide | AEC Theatre Saturday 3 July 2021 | Perth | RAC Arena TICKETING INFORMATION Telstra is offering their customers an exclusive Telstra Plus presale from 2pm (local) Monday 7 December to 2pm (local) Wednesday 9 December. For more details regarding the presale, please visit https://www.telstra.com.au/plus/tickets/music   The general public will have the opportunity to purchase tickets from 10am (local) Friday 11 December from https://www.amyshark.com   Fans can also take advantage of Ticketek’s world-leading partnership with Afterpay for Amy’s Cry Forever Tour. UNUM FESTIVAL RETURNS FOR 2021 AS ALBANIAN GOVERNMENT APPROVES USE OF RAPID TESTING June 3rd – 7th 2021 Shengjin, Albania

by the partae December 6, 2020
written by the partae
Unum Festival is to return to the gorgeous beaches and pine forests of Shenghin on the Albanian Riviera from June 3rd to 7th 2021. After careful discussions with the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, and the Ministry of Health, all necessary measures will be undertaken to ensure that rapid tests will be offered at the open air festival venue so that you can enjoy world class music in a stunning, sun kissed setting next summer. This makes Albania the first country in the world to approve of testing for social and cultural events.
The advancing technology and accuracy of rapid tests currently allows for results within 10-15 minutes, which is all that would be required to ensure you can enjoy the festival in the way it should be enjoyed. On top of that, vaccines will likely have arrived early next year so that plans for this small, perfectly formed festival are now well underway, all with the support and backing of the Albanian government.
In 2019, the close-knit UNUM was a brand new festival that made an immediate mark in its first year because it was a friendly coming together of real music lovers in an amazing region of the world. It played out on the beautiful, organic and natural Albanian Riviera with a world class line-up of house, minimal and techno DJs such as Luciano, Ricardo Villalobos, Butch, Margaret Dygas, Petre Inspirescu, Praslea, Sonja Moonear, Zip and more. Expect more of these cult underground selectors when the full line up is announced soon.
The festival really shined a spotlight on Rana e Hedhun, the last untapped corner of Europe in the town of Shengjin, on the idyllic Albanian coastline. Music played, and will play again, across day and night, with blissful sunrise and sunset parties, water sports, plenty of local culture, food and drink offerings and a music loving crowd from all corners of the world. Beyond the music there is lots to explore in this natural paradise, from  isolated bays and gold sand beaches to the Albanian Alps.
Until next June, take care of yourself, family, and friends and save your energy for what will be some seriously good vibes for Unum 2021.

THE TESKEY BROTHERS RELEASE TWO CHRISTMAS SONGS ‘DREAMING OF A CHRISTMAS WITH YOU’ & ‘HIGHWAY HOME FOR CHRISTMAS’ + ANNOUNCE CHRISTMAS EVENT WITH ORCHESTRA VICTORIA!

Coming through with the holiday cheer, 2020 ARIA Award winners The Teskey Brothers have today released two original Christmas songs, ‘Dreaming Of A Christmas With You’ (+ accompanying video) and ‘Highway Home For Christmas’!  To coincide with the release, the band have also announced an extremely special Christmas performance event with Orchestra Victoria, which will be filmed at Hamer Hall and premiered on YouTube on Tuesday 22 December at 10.00am AEDT.

Speaking of ‘Dreaming Of A Christmas With You / Highway Home For Christmas’, The Teskey Brothers said:
“Our first Christmas tunes! These two songs are both inspired by the lockdown we all faced this year. The story speaks to the separation of lovers and family, in Victoria’s case divided by the great Murray River, holding onto hope for a reunion at Christmas. You’ve got a lonely soul at home who’s ‘Dreaming Of A Christmas With You’, while their loved one is hightailing it down the ‘Highway Home For Christmas’. After a slow year off the tools, it was so much fun to get back together and record these tracks live in the room.”
Rounding out the year will be a not-to-be-missed performance by The Teskey Brothers, whose songs will be reimagined by arranger Jamie Messenger and performed live onstage at Hamer Hall with Orchestra Victoria (led by conductor Nicholas Buc) and viewable to fans across the world on YouTube. The 50-minute performance will feature songs from the band’s catalogue, a debut performance of ‘Dreaming Of A Christmas With You’ and ‘Highway Home For Christmas’, as well as a few more surprises in the works.

The news comes off the back of last week’s ARIA Award win for Best Blues & Roots Album for their #1 ARIA chart-topping LP, Live At The Forum! Amidst a 16-date sold out national Australian tour in 2019, the band undertook the arduous task of recording to analogue tape during their four-night stand at the beloved Melbourne venue. The album features songs from the band’s two revered albums, Run Home Slow (2019) and Half Mile Harvest (2017), as well as a special cover of John Lennon’s ‘Jealous Guy’. Live At The Forum is the first live album to go number 1 by an Australian band since 1992’s AC/DC Live.

WADE JACKSON New album Sensationalized is out today! Announces Sydney album launch Jan 14

by the partae December 4, 2020
written by the partae

Following his recent signing to Broken Stone Records, today Sydney-based artist Wade Jackson releases his new album Sensationalized, which features his latest single ‘Nightlife’.

As Jackson details of the album “Sensationalized was written and recorded during the Covid-19 lockdown in Sydney. The theme is based around a fictional complete city breakdown, exaggerated reality. An almost apocalyptic, dystopian city with different scenarios played out by different characters in a diary/self reflection style.

This was also reflected in the music I was listening to: Joe Walsh – Barnstorm, Joni Mitchell – Hejira, Lewis Baloue – L’amour, Peter Koppes – Manchild or Myth. All these records for me have a real reclusive feel and felt comforting whilst alone during lockdown.”

Jackson began predominantly worked in music theatre and writing screen plays. Given things weren’t going so well he decided to use his musical chops to write his debut album Goodbye Rain, Hello Sunshine in 2012 which he later recorded with producer Liam Judson (Belles Will Ring, Cloud Control to Major Tom, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever Dream). Touring Australia widely, he took a break to write Whiskey Alpha Delta Echo in the fall of 2013, again co-producing with Judson. The album was picked up on a licensing deal from a Spanish label generating a European tour.

After returning from Europe, with wind in his sails and sales he started work on the follow-up, Crown & Cathedral which unfortunately was disliked immensely by his Spanish fan base citing “there’s too much synthesiser”, a mistake that Jackson did not learn from and continued to use on the follow up album, The Ghost Searches Beside Me. The LP was recorded and mixed by Jackson with his new set of skills he was forced to learn after going broke from investing all of his money into a music documentary he made with friend and well known Australian band manager and industry stalwart, Greg Carey. Waiting – The Van Duren Story was screened around the world and well received.

Now, Broken Stone Records are thrilled to release Jackson’s fifth album titled Sensationalized.

To celebrate the release, Jackson will be launching Sensationalized live on Jan 14, 2021 at Sydney’s Moshpit. Tickets will be available soon.
