Brookvale Oval All ages Tickets $55 2 – 9pm https://www.beachesrockrelief.com.au/ Sydney’s Northern Beaches Council is staging a Rock Relief concert at Brookvale Oval to support bushfire and drought-affected communities. The all-ages show will kick off at 2pm on Saturday 15 February and aims to raise over $1 million. Tickets cost $55 and are on sale now here. People are also encouraged to make an additional donation at the time of purchase to help raise as much money as possible and to show how much the Northern Beaches community cares. All profits from the show, and booking fees through the ticketing agency Humanitix, will be donated to the Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery campaign. The Rural Fire Service (RFS) who have been partnering with Council at other summer events to raise funds, will also be onsite collecting for their bushfire appeal. Showing their support for the devastated communities are some of the top names in Australian music, including: •       Christine Anu •       Dog Trumpet •       Furnace and the Fundamentals •       GRAACE •       Hoodoo Gurus •       Hot Dub Time Machine •       Shannon Noll •       The Choirboys •       The Superjesus •       Xavier Dunn Mayor Michael Regan said the scale of the bushfire and drought devastation was shocking. “I am really humbled by the generous response to Rock Relief. With this line-up it’s going to be a very special event and I know we can smash our $1 million fundraising target. “This crisis is like nothing we have ever seen and I have been inundated by people in the community wanting to help out. While Council has been supporting our sister city Gunnedah, raising funds through Rotary at our summer events, supporting urgent donation collections at local surf clubs and donating all the profits from the Sun Run to Wires, this event will make a huge difference to thousands of suffering families. “Those lucky enough to get tickets can be confident knowing they will have a great day and they are contributing to a great cause. “The crisis is not over yet and the best thing we can do now is to support the front line agencies like the Red Cross so they can get the funds to where they are needed most.” Multi-award winning, singer and songwriter Christine Anu says its times like this we need to connect and help each other. “Like the millions all over the world, I too have looked on with devastation as these bushfires ravage our country. In times like these, Australians are so good at coming together like one big family to support each other. “I’m thrilled to be a part of Rock Relief, knowing that it will raise some much needed funds and bring people together. Let’s focus on connection and community when we need it most,” she said. Council is grateful to the sponsors and artists who have come on board including Humanitix, the Manly Sea Eagles, Novotel Manly and Q Station. Where are you currently based and what is the music scene like there?  I’m currently based in Sydney, living in Cronulla. To my understanding, the music scene in town and around Sydney has been hit pretty hard by some really short sighted legislation over the last few years, some of which has very recently been repealed. I have high hopes that things will turn around and get better for artists and business, but that really comes down to people being willing to spend the money and time supporting local and independent artists.  How did you first start playing music?  I started singing lessons when I was in Year 6. I didn’t actually think anything would come of it, I just kind of figured out that I could do it and thought it keep it up as a creative outlet. When I started getting guitar lessons from my band mate Luke, we realised pretty quickly that something could be made of it if we could cobble some songs together. About a year later, here we are.  What's been happening recently?  Since pretty much the start of the year, Luke and I have been touring nationally with The Beautiful Girls, which has been fantastic. In between, we played the Make It Rain benefit in Byron, and that was just an amazing few nights. Beyond that, really just trying to consume and learn from as much new music as possible and trying desperately to write some new material.  Have you been recording lately?  Not since the first batch of recordings that yielded the songs we’ve released up until now. But myself and the band are keen to get back into the studio in the coming months to work on some new material that we’ve been playing around with for a few months. By that time, I should have already written up some new stuff too. In short, I’m optimistic that we’ll have some new stuff recorded within the year.  How do you approach the recording process?  The best approach, I think, is just to be as prepared as possible. Have the songs mostly finished either in your head or jammed out between the band. Also be willing to experiment and change up songs. It’s really hard to make changes to something that, in your head, already feels final and complete, but getting rid of that voice that says “don’t change anything, it won’t be as good” can open up a whole array of new ideas and sounds. Or it could be trash, in which case you’re going in with even less doubt about your original ideas. It’s win-win, really.  What programs/instruments do you use? During the shows, I just play an acoustic guitar of Luke’s. Really beautiful piece of kit. Otherwise, I don’t play anything. My main instrument is definitely my voice. In the studio, we record the acoustic live and Luke will jump on his Jazzmaster for effects, riffs and whatnot. We use Cubebase to record the tracks. Who do you usually work with? For the most part, it’s myself, Luke, our drummer James and our bass player Chris that make up the band. In the studio, Luke and Ian Pritchett co-produce the material.  What's been happening on the touring front? We kicked off on the Beautiful Girls’ tour at the very beginning of January. Since then it’s been either driving or flying from here to there, Queensland to Victoria back to NSW. A lot of really great shows, a lot of really great people. It’s great meeting people and talking to people in between and throughout shows, hearing what people think, what they like and what they don’t. It’s one of the best parts of touring, just seeing new people and new places.  Who are you listening to at the moment? Over the last few weeks I’ve been trying to get to some artists that have been on my list for a while that I haven’t really explored yet. Most recently, I’ve been listening through Rage Against the Machine’s discography because it keeps me awake in transit. I’ll be moving on to Outkast and Björk after that. Radiohead, Talking Heads, David Bowie and Swans make up a consistent part of my music diet. And the odd individual album here and there. Sunbather by Deafheaven made an appearance, which is about the prettiest nightmare I’ve ever subjected myself to.  Who or what influences your sound and songwriting? My songwriting is largely influenced by whatever I’m listening to at the current period in time. It’s never one artists necessarily, but I try to take the best parts or the best sounds or the best ideas from a few artists and turn it into something that, at the very least, sound like my own words. According to David Bowie, “Picasso said, it’s not what you steal, it’s how you use it”. At this point in my career, any comparisons to the people I idolise are welcome, because the people I idolise are brilliant.  What do you like to do away from music? I do a lot of video gaming. A whole lot of video gaming. Probably too much, but I think there’s massive artistic merit in games that frequently overlooked. I try to read as much as possible as well. I’ve been chugging through David Byrne’s How Music Works, which is a really, really well-written and insightful read. I’ve also been attempting, albeit slower than I would like, to catch up on a lot of movies and TV that’s been sitting on a list for far too long.  What's planned for 2020? Honestly, its hard to say. A lot of what we’re doing is playing by ear, seeing how our releases go and planning it out from there. We’re definitely keen to continue along with the tour, definitely keen to get in the studio at some point. A lot of writing in between, a lot of gigging. Basically just working on building up this pretty little empire in any way possible.  Favourite food and place to hang out? It would either be pizza or chicken. In saying that, our family restaurant, Queen Margherita in Cronulla, makes a hell of a Bolognese. By far my favourite thing in the place. As for my favourite place to hang out, there’s really nothing like home for me. But I’ll find enjoyment any place as long as I’m with the right people who can keep me distracted enough to where I don’t miss my bed too much.  Facebook: www.facebook.com/Jacksoncarrollaus/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jacksoncarrollaus/?hl=en Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/1xjA70Ji8QMKD1lYlrSo9b?si=a6rcGChYTY2kwxhcF0EgKQ

Minuscule is the brainchild of ukulelist Laurel Minnes, harnessing the power of a 15-piece all-female choir and an eclectic backing band to create a powerful new form of feminist pop music. Making their debut performance with a sold out set at St. Catharines In the Soil Festival, Minuscule has continually clapped, stomped and meowed their way into winning over every audience they've met. Drawing comparisons to the weaving melodies of Imogen Heap and moving experience of Choir!Choir!Choir!, Minuscule's unforgettable live performances are making choral music cool again. The debut album Great, co-produced by Minnes and Joe Lapinski (Great Lake Swimmers, Woodshed Orchestra, DRFTR) was soft released November 2019. The 10 tracks encompass a genre-bending blend of intricate five-part vocal harmonies and emotionally stirring, tongue-in-cheek lyricism - and features title track Great, which secured Minnes' recognition as Songwriter of the Year at the 2018 Niagara Music Awards. Marc Rebillet’s One Man Show to make his AU & NZ live debut | March 2020

  • Musical comedy improviser Marc Rebillet announces tour of Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland in March 2020
  • The New Yorker’s eccentric, comedic and unpredictable musical performances are built from scratch live, earning him millions of views worldwide with over 779,000 followers on Facebook and 450,000 on YouTube
  • Before releasing his album Europe on Spotify, Rebillet improvised, recorded and streamed its entire 26 tracks whilst on a 29-day European trip live to fans
  • General Public tickets on sale Friday 31 January
Frontier Touring are delighted to welcome Dallas-born, New York City-based artist Marc Rebillet to Australia and New Zealand, performing for the first time. Infamous for his bathrobe-wearing and comical improvisational performances, centring around a BOSS RC-505 loop station, keyboard and vocals – Rebillet’s shows are a combination of soul, R&B, and house beats, blended with jokes about life’s everyday experiences.

Rebillet brings his improvisational performances to Brisbane’s The Fortitude Music Hall on Tuesday 17 March, followed by Sydney’s Metro Theatre on Friday 20 March, and The Forum in Melbourne on Saturday 21 March, before heading to Auckland’s Powerstation on Tuesday 24 March. Presale tickets will be available for Frontier members from 1pm AEDT/3pm NZDT, Wednesday 29 January, with General Public tickets on sale Friday 31 January (1pm local time).

2019 was a huge year for Rebillet – sold out tours across North America, Europe and the UK and featured by Billboard as a ‘Dance Emerging Artist’ to Watch in August after releasing his album, Europe. In December Rebillet released his latest track, ‘Work That Ass For Daddy’, completely improvised in one take in true Marc Rebillet style.

Watch: Marc Rebillet – ‘AMSTERDAM (FULL SHOW)’
‘Is Marc Rebillet the funniest man on the planet right now?’ – Irish Times

‘The Dallas-bred, New York City-based improvisational artist creates all his songs from scratch in a single setting, with his productions ranging from sensual R&B burners to hip-hop-tinged funk creations.’ – Billboard

Much of Rebillet’s music is improvised on the spot in front of his audience, and Europe is no exception. Each of the album’s 26 tracks were improvised, recorded and streamed individually via Rebillet’s YouTube channel, one-at-a-time whilst on the road during a 29 day trip around Europe, tracks include DAY 1: ‘BORDEAUX’, DAY 2: ‘GRENOBLE’ and DAY 6: ‘ZURICH’.

In August Europe was dropped, earning over 155,214 monthly streams. In addition, Rebillet regularly live streams on YouTube full sets of his seemingly unconventional music-making in his apartment and hotel rooms. Rebillet’s YouTube channel currently has over 450,000 active subscribers.

Don’t miss out on seeing this globe-spanning favourite for his first time in Australia and New Zealand in March 2020. Secure tickets early to avoid missing out!

Brown Alley Easter Thursday 9 April Novel is happy to welcome the highly anticipated return of Dusky. Alfie Granger-Howell and Nick Harriman aka Dusky is the London born duo who have steadily maintained a growing fanbase since their emergence in the early 10’s. Their 2011 breakthrough track ‘Flo Jam’ asserted itself as a club-ready anthem, worthy of it’s Beatport #1 title. This was followed by a string of other club favourites ‘Careless’, ‘Love Taking Over’ and ‘Yoohoo’.  Equally loved for their considered and well-sourced DJ sets, a Dusky set harbours all things hard-hitting, infectious and pristinely arranged. As label owners, they imbue their 17 Steps imprint with forward-thinking house and techno from the likes of Bwana, Perel, Mella Dee, Perc and Ryan Elliott. As the label continues to develop, Dusky remain working across multiple disciplines, firmly rooted in the dance music culture that has inspired them ever since their formative days raving as teenagers at venues across London.  After hosting Dusky at Let Them Eat Cake, smalltown and Pitch Music & Arts, Novel is eager to welcome their return as they kick off the Easter long weekend.  Tickets available now from: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/novel-presents-dusky-4hrs-tickets-91095169103

Featuring all of tomorrow’s relevant electronic and crossover music today. Immersive stages. Featuring engrossing environments composed of 4 main (Earth, Air, Fire, Water) stags along with dozens of community produced stages . Larger than life art. Featuring dozens of large-scale art installations spanning from live performances to multi-sensory interactive experiences. The ideal destination. Accessible destination for all major metro areas in the Northeast. Diverse scenery. From expansive beachfront to an enchanted forest to rolling hills, every summer activity is within reach inside our 100 acres of diverse landscape. Special programming. A packed schedule of risque programs and playful workshops. A reconfigured campground. Sprawling villages that consist of a variety of tents and makeshift homes that bring to life a small world.  The 2020 lineup boasts representatives from every in-vogue genre from house and playa-inspired techno, to heavier stylings like dubstep, glitch-hop, psy-dub and funk, all of whom will deliver their finest grooves across the festival’s collection of imaginative elemental stages, along with a number of community-produced renegade stages. Element I. FIRE Stage On Friday night, against a sublime, tree-lined vista, GRAMMY Award-winning producer Diplo will lead an inaugural US “Higher Ground” festival takeover on the Fire Stage, where he’ll introduce fans to his fresh, house-leaning catalogue with a little help from Lakewood veterans, Walker & Royce. Bringing chiller vibes on Saturday is ambient house stalwart Bonobo. Then the king of smooth cuts, Chris Lake, will end things on a hot note as Sunday’s closing headliner, alongside sizzlin’ sets from favorites like Dr. Fresch, The Golden Pony, J. Worra, Dirty Looks and AKKI. Element II. EARTH Stage The epic Earth Stage will undergo a trippy makeover with the introduction of The Rabbit Hole, North America’s premiere psychedelic visual experience featuring state-of-the-art projection mapping and a walking trail of massive, glowing structures that will transport attendees to a never-before-seen wonderland. Within this ethereal zone, rumbling acts like Jade Cicada, TOKiMONSTA, Emancipator, Rusko, and Manic Focus will bring heavy bass straight to the forest floor. Element III. AIR Stage Keeping things breezy on the Air Stage are Canadian electro-rockers Bob Moses, plus UK experimental producer Four Tet, progressive house visionary Yotto, All Day I Dream regular YokoO and the fun-loving Desert Hearts crew, whose infectious sounds will float sweetly into the colorful treetops.  Element IV. WATER Stage The captain of this year’s Water Stage is none other than Dirtybird Records label boss Claude VonStroke, whose bubbly brand of house is certain to make big waves at the coveted daytime chill spot where revelers can otherwise dance to disco, board a floating pirate ship or take canoes out for a spin. On the hunt for fresh talent? Dozens of local artists can be found blasting tunes on five additional secret stages - the result is an auditory scavenger hunt where everyone wins! Art Installations The lush, green grounds will again be transformed into a giant installation, decorated with works from a myriad of groundbreaking artists. Attendees are encouraged to create their own masterpieces during live painting demonstrations, explore new tech-driven indoor art spaces, marvel at the Lost Forest’s magical “tree people”, set the dancefloor ablaze with fire dancers, and start their own mobile parties on top of the production company’s ever-growing fleet of climbable art cars. Special Programming Should attendees crave a breather between sets and sights, they’ll find refuge at the Wellnest. The extensive roster of health and wellness programming expands to include diverse forms of yoga, Didjeridu massages, as well as the return of popular offerings such as meditative sound baths and sunset vinyasa. As always, those who want to awaken their inner child may engage in classic summer camp activities like roller skating, rock-climbing, watersports, campfire storytelling, and treehouse hangouts. Fashion-forward festies can dazzle or “be-dazzled” at the Unicorn Lounge, where they can drop-in for a hair braiding and other glitter-related needs. It’s these kinds of unexpected thrills which have helped Elements Lakewood emerge as the East Coast’s leading transformational camping festival. But this level of exploration takes a lot of energy. Prepare to dance beneath the trees and float across the sand because Elements Music & Arts Festival has announced a star-studded lineup for its fourth annual event, taking place Memorial Day Weekend, May 22 – 25th, 2020. A veritable “adult playground”, Elements features a beach with stunning lakeside views, a whimsical, art-infused forest and an impressive selection of camping options for the weekend.

Brought to life by the Brooklyn independent production company known for their legendary BangOn!NYC art and music gatherings, this year’s multi-day “sleepaway” celebration will see scene heavyweights like Bonobo, Four Tet, TOKiMONSTA, Chris Lake, Claude VonStroke and over 100 more artists bringing unmatched energy to a summer camp set upon 150 acres of picturesque Pennsylvanian land, approximately 2 hours outside NYC.

“Festivalgoers can dance from dusk until dawn, journey through immersive environments, take a dip in the serene lake, indulge in delicious eats from craft vendors, or hit reset with a meditative sound bath or expert-led yoga class.” said Brett Herman Co-Founder and Managing Director at BangOn!NYC. “Over the past four years we’ve delivered big surprises and created unforgettable, transformative memories for our festival family, and 2020 won’t disappoint.”

Elements Festival’s playground features:
  • Music for tastemakers. Featuring all of tomorrow’s relevant electronic and crossover music today.
  • Immersive stages. Featuring engrossing environments composed of 4 main (Earth, Air, Fire, Water) stags along with dozens of community produced stages .
  • Larger than life art. Featuring dozens of large-scale art installations spanning from live performances to multi-sensory interactive experiences.
  • The ideal destination. Accessible destination for all major metro areas in the Northeast.
  • Diverse scenery. From expansive beachfront to an enchanted forest to rolling hills, every summer activity is within reach inside our 100 acres of diverse landscape.
  • Special programming. A packed schedule of risque programs and playful workshops.
  • A reconfigured campground.
Element I. FIRE Stage
On Friday night, against a sublime, tree-lined vista, GRAMMY Award-winning producer Diplo will lead an inaugural US “Higher Ground” festival takeover on the Fire Stage, where he’ll introduce fans to his fresh, house-leaning catalogue with a little help from Lakewood veterans, Walker & Royce.
Element II. EARTH Stage
The epic Earth Stage will undergo a trippy makeover with the introduction of The Rabbit Hole, North America’s premiere psychedelic visual experience featuring state-of-the-art projection mapping and a walking trail of massive, glowing structures that will transport attendees to a never-before-seen wonderland. Within this ethereal zone, rumbling acts like Jade Cicada, TOKiMONSTA, Emancipator, Rusko, and Manic Focus will bring heavy bass straight to the forest floor.
Element III. AIR Stage
Keeping things breezy on the Air Stage are Canadian electro-rockers Bob Moses, plus UK experimental producer Four Tet, progressive house visionary Yotto, All Day I Dream regular YokoO and the fun-loving Desert Hearts crew, whose infectious sounds will float sweetly into the colorful treetops.
Element IV. WATER Stage
The captain of this year’s Water Stage is none other than Dirtybird Records label boss Claude VonStroke, whose bubbly brand of house is certain to make big waves at the coveted daytime chill spot where revelers can otherwise dance to disco, board a floating pirate ship or take canoes out for a spin. On the hunt for fresh talent? Dozens of local artists can be found blasting tunes on five additional secret stages – the result is an auditory scavenger hunt where everyone wins!
Art Installations
The lush, green grounds will again be transformed into a giant installation, decorated with works from a myriad of groundbreaking artists.
Special Programming
Should attendees crave a breather between sets and sights, they’ll find refuge at the Wellnest.
Thankfully, guests can stay sated by sampling tasty bites and sips from a wide selection of 24-hour vendors with options to satisfy any diet.
“We are working with our community of fans and cross-section of Northeastern partners to make this festival our biggest yet in terms of attendance, music, art, programs, and features,” said Emily Alworth, Marketing Director. “We can’t wait to share more over the coming weeks and months with our dedicated and new-found community alike.”

At our new address of 68 Little Collins Street (some may recall a bar called Pony?), Cherry is slightly different to our old basement… With two levels (you can grab a drink in our parlour bar or duck up to the bandroom) we’re going to have special 2AM shows going forward!

Giving our new PA a workout, Hannah Kate is appearing live on Friday Jan’ 24th on the Cherry stage!

Hannah Kate is a garage rock outfit from Melbourne who over the past two years have earned themselves a reputation for their raucous live shows and their intelligent brand of rock and roll.

Now though this show is technically the Saturday morning, think of it like you’re still out from the night before…

The new Cherry is located at 68 Little Collins Street. It might be the best rock n roll joint in town…

The Dead Amigos
Saturday 25th January, 8pm

The Dead Amigos with special guests The Calibans
and $10 Espresso Martinis all night too!

Alrighty so this coming long weekend we have bluesy stoner rock band The Dead Amigos on the Cherry Bar stage.

Rawing influences from Jack White, The Vines, Pink Floyd, The Doors and Jimi Hendrix, Their debut self-titled EP combines a blend of genres such blues, rock, funk and country. It has the variety to tickle taste buds and raw power to invoke rage.

Joining them for a night rock n roll & blues are The Calibans and The Dead Amigos front man Max Sheppard doing a solo set – you don’t want to miss this!

And when you’ve come the show at Cherry, be our guest to party ’til close (Thursday that’s ’til late, Friday and Saturday right through ’til 7AM!) for no extra charge. The new Cherry is located at 68 Little Collins Street. It might be the best rock n roll bar in town.

Cherry Blues with Three Kings
Sunday 26th January, 5pm

Three Kings performing two (more?) sets at Cherry!
Our weekly Cherry Blues is FREE ENTRY with doors from 5PM
Espresso Martinis for $10 all afternoon too!

This Sunday January 26th we’re welcoming Melbourne blues super group Three Kings to the Cherry stage! This authentic blues trio with the renowned Ian Collard (Collard Greens and Gravy), Benny Peters (Benny and the Fly By Niters) and Jason Liu Soon (stints with Chris Wilson and The Detonators) take audiences on a tour of those greasy, picturesque juke joints prominent within the rich history of American blues and roots music. With a hard hittin’ delivery and a wide range of influences (think John Lee Hooker, Kid Thomas, Slim Harpo and Jerry McCain to name but a few), Three Kings take punters a reckless hell ride and clock up the miles from Bourbon Street to the Windy City…

“No one should have to follow these guys on stage. No one.” – Justin Townes Earle

Our weekly Cherry Blues is still FREE ENTRY with doors now from 5PM. Table seating is available with a new snacks menu and wine list. And supervised children are welcome to attend. If you haven’t checked out the new Cherry as yet? We’re now located at 68 Little Collins Street!

RSVP Here!
Cosmic Kahuna
Sunday 26th January, 8pm

COSMIC KAHUNA live on the Cherry stage!
Cherry will be open ’til 5AM x

To help make use of this upcoming long weekend, we’ve invited Cosmic Kahuna to perform live on the Cherry stage!

This guitar driven trio always puts on a wild show, and sure do know how to test amps! Cosmic Kahuna are the kind of band that have simply made fans the old fashioned way, great recordings and a live show that offers a colourful assault that’s built around diverse riffs. Whether taking a listener down to the skate parks of yesteryear or chewin’ up a cassette tape stoner rock comp’ on some lsd laced muscle car hoon through the desert, this lot will make fans of any lovers rock. Like Dave Grohl, who invited them to the land of stars and stripes and perform at the Cal’ Jam Festival he curated.

Make the most of this public holiday eve! We’ll be open ’til 5AM. And if you haven’t checked out the new Cherry yet, we’re located at 68 Little Collins Street. It’s probably the best rocknroll joint in town again.

Celebration of David Bowie
Sunday 26th January, 11pm

Celebrate the magic of David Bowie at Cherry
It’s FREE ENTRY with Bowie shirt or face paint…
$10 Espresso Martinis ALL NIGHT too!

Hey. If you’re looking for a place to boogie on the long weekend we’re celebrating David Bowie on Sunday Jan’ 26th to make the most of the public holiday! A true chameleon of popular culture, leaving behind masterworks that will forever stand the test of time.

When struggling pop singer David Jones created the stage name David Bowie, it was the birth for what was to be an outlet for one of the most creative minds in rock ’n’ roll history. His ability to reinvent himself and create a tapestry of iconography within the constraints of popular music is unparalleled. Taking the experience of music beyond your hi-fi speakers, Bowie was a creative force that would pull you into his various guises and concepts.

Cherry DJ’s will be spinnin’ the best from Bowie across both levels, covering all periods (Major Tom, Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane, Thin White Duke, his return to pop in the ’80’s, late 90’s alt-rock leanings and self penned requiem that was Blackstar), so everyone can have a boogie! We’ll be slingin’ $10 Espresso Martinis and partying ’til 5AM!

It all starts from 11PM and it’s FREE ENTRY for those sporting their Bowie shirt or face paint or it’s an easy $10 entry. And hey, not every single song played for six hours will be a Bowie song, coz that be weird. We’ll be playing HEAPS of Bowie across the six hours xo

Oh and as per the usual when we celebrate this legend, if you can pull off his Goblin King costume it’s free entry also because quite simply, you deserve it

Listen HERE.  Of the track, Lane says: “Hickeys is about moving in circles. Working the same job, going to the same bars and seeing the same people every weekend. Getting caught in the loop and wanting to break free. Seeing some people around you break that loop and seeing some people stay in it.”  ‘Hickeys’ is a disarmingly sweet and tender track, addressing an ex-lover as Lane lays out heartbreak and the ugly details of a breakup in his husky vocals over a buoyant acoustic guitar and a minimal beat. And while it still radiates the same irresistibly cheeky persona as previous Saint Lane singles, ‘Hickeys’ brings things down to a more unhurried, leisurely pace that will appeal to fans of Post Malone and the reggae infused sound of Winston Surfshirt and Ocean Alley. 2019 was a whirlwind year for Lane: since signing to Risqué Music and breaking out with singles, ‘Sugary Sweet,' 'Pitbull Type Beat' and his debut 'Compliment My Shirt,' he has amassed over 400,000 streams across streaming services, including playlist additions to The New Australia (Apple Music), All Aussie Hip Hop, Shisha Lounge and New Music Friday AU & NZ (Spotify), and rotation on triple j and FBi Radio. In July, he was named as triple j Unearthed’s Feature Artist and scored a spot on their perpetually-finger-on-the pulse ‘Bars of Steel’ segment. Live, 2019 saw Lane perform support slots for Baker Boy and Slum Sociable on their L.I.F.EP National Tour, Bigsound showcases and an upcoming tour with Bootleg Rascal.  It’s a far cry from where he grew up. Like his artistic inspirations Kanye West and Jean-Michel Basquiat, Lane’s bright, playful art conceals a rough upbringing. Born to Fijian and French parents on the streets of Auckland, Lane was raised in and out of cheap motels and homelessness. At the age of 17, the only source of normality in his otherwise fragile life - his family - was shattered when his parents’ strained relationship collapsed. With no money and a life in turmoil, Saint Lane turned to dealing drugs to get by, using his poetry on the side to make sense of his troubled surroundings, exploring the racial implications of being born into a mixed family, senseless violence and the struggle of surviving on the streets.    ‘Hickeys’ is out now via Risqué Music.
