RANCID
UNVEIL 10TH STUDIO ALBUM
‘TOMORROW NEVER COMES’
OUT NOW VIA EPITAPH

WATCH MUSIC VIDEO FOR
“NEW AMERICAN”

“Fast, ragged, catchy and even a little thrashy at points,” – Revolver

“The album stretches a whopping 16 tracks of punk rock fury…” – Knotfest

“The sunny brutalism of Rancid’s East Bay ska-thrash has lost nary a step and their ethical-emotional rigour is as sweet as it is pure.” – SPIN

“A must-listen for longtime fans, Tomorrow Never Comes will also bring cathartic joy for anyone who likes their music loud and soaked with clobbering charm. It’s 2023, and punk’s definitely not dead” – Hysteria Mag

“Tomorrow Never Comes emphatically proves that Rancid are still just as relevant in the music world as they have ever been.” – Heavy Mag

“On Tomorrow Never Comes, Rancid have crafted a masterstroke that carries a social consciousness, yet is not weighed down by the gravity of its message (or lack thereof?). It may concern itself with the back alley world of the urban downtrodden, but it sparkles with just enough glitz to resonate with those on the other side of the tracks. 2023 album of the year (thus far)!” – Stack Mag

Berkeley, California, punk stalwarts Rancid share their highly anticipated 10th studio album, ‘Tomorrow Never Comes’ out now via Epitaph Records. The follow up to 2017’s Trouble Maker, the new album was produced by longtime collaborator, Bad Religion guitarist and Epitaph founder, Brett Gurewitz.

Check it out below:
‘Tomorrow Never Comes’ LISTEN

At a whopping 850 Million catalogue streams to date, fans and critics alike seem to agree that Rancid’s brand of high impact, no frills punk still flows abundantly in their blood, while easily translating to a modern audience. Now embarking on their tenth full-length effort, this is evident throughout ‘Tomorrow Never Comes’. With its sixteen blistering tracks barely making the two-and-a-half-minute mark, the album boasts the same gritty, straight forward punk-with-a-purpose that the world just can’t get enough of.

Throughout the last three decades, Rancid has remained fiercely independent, never losing their loyalty to their community or each other. Their music confronts political and social issues, while balancing personal tales of love, loss, and heartbreak with attitude. By carrying on the traditions and spirit of the original punk rock bands that came before, Rancid has become a legend and inspiration to punk bands that have come after.

Paces Releases ‘Brain Got Hands’

by the partae June 5, 2023
written by the partae

Over the past few years, change has been the only constant in many of our lives. Aussie festival favourite and dependable joy-merchant Paces (Mikey Perry) saw his life turn upside down. He’s since gone through a musical renaissance either because of or in spite of that. 2022 saw Paces pivot from his trademark tropical electronica to a new sound that affixed edgy hyperpop with his lifelong love of punk & emo styles. Stepping in front of the microphone for the first time, his singles Adrift & Butterflies explored personal pain, fears and growth in a way that was both moving and exciting. The next single Brain Got Hands is as intimate as it is energetic. Candid personal thoughts atop a tense chord progression and urgent drums before a wailing wall of punk energy blasts us at the apogee. “Brain Got Hands is a snapshot of how I was feeling when my depression was at its worst. It was a pretty hopeless time and despite doing everything to manage my mental health I just kept slipping further under.”

Alongside the announcement of Brains Got Hands, comes the revelation that we can expect a full length album from Paces, later this year. Three Summers will be his third LP but the first with this new sound. “In the past I’ve been focussed on making escapist pop music which I thoroughly enjoyed doing at the time. This album is quite different as it’s much more personal plus I’m singing on the tracks, doing all the songwriting, and it’s a different direction in terms of genre.” Authentic in essence and innovative in style Three Summers will be a triumph in expression and a cathartic release of energy. “For the last few years I’ve been hurting pretty deeply for a few reasons and one of the best ways I’ve found to cope is by writing songs. I was writing songs every day as a form of journaling, just trying to channel the negative energy into something creative, and then at some point I decided to take it a step further and actually record them.” Tonelly new, but with the outstanding production standard we would expect from Paces, Three Summers is upbeat, brash, vibrant and sincere. Hoping that his existing fans will join him on the journey but ultimately motivated by something more intrinsic, Paces says: “The songs were really just made for me but if anyone out there connects with them, that’s a bonus.”

Brain Got Hands is out on the 2nd of June via Off Leash Records.

“CAN YOU HEAR ME” IS KYLE RICHARDSON’S MODERN POP ANTHEM TO LIVE LOUD, PROUD, AND WITHOUT REGRETS

by the partae June 4, 2023
written by the partae

Canadian pop artist Kyle  Richardson is celebrating the recent release of the official music video for his current single  “Can  You Hear Me”

Written by Richardson and fellow Canadians Andrew Allen and Grammy-nominated Jeff Dawson  (who also produced), “Can You Hear Me” is the first of three planned singles to land from the  artist’s debut album, “Louder Than Words”, which arrives later this year.

Coasting on a modern pop vibe with a rock edge, “Can You Hear Me” boasts minimalistic bouncy  verses leading into call-and-answer chorus vocals with big harmonies, and an appropriately  energetic percussion throughout. The music video was produced by Roadhouse Productions.

Richardson says, “This song is a strong musical representation of my direction as an artist. It’s  about confidence, hope, and inspiration – all major themes that the album touches on as well. For  the video, I really wanted the visuals to be kinetic and colourful to really emphasize the urgency  behind the lyrics. Working with AJ Astle and Roadhouse Productions, we found an edgy studio  location filled with modern aesthetics and bright neon signs to really bring the bold sentiment of  the song to life.”

As the first new music for the Vancouver-based LGBTQIA+ artist since 2019, “Can You Hear Me”  is a re-introduction of sorts for the artist and dedicated songwriter. Having written with a wide  range of Canadian artists, including superstar Carly Rae Jepsen, WCMA-nominated DYLN, and  rising star Garrett Neiles, Richardson previously released two singles of his own to Canadian radio  (“Painkiller” and “So Hot It Hurts”) and has lent his talents as a guest vocalist on a number of  collaborations, including Bobina’s 2016 single, “Love is the Answer” and its accompanying  remixes, which have earned over 1.5 million streams on Spotify.

Having performed at multiple Pride events around his home city (including 2019’s New West  Pride), Richardson also wants “Can You Hear Me” to serve as a calling card and a proud statement  for the LGBTQIA+ community – especially fellow artists and creatives – to follow their  inspirations. Ultimately, his aim is to guide others to live boldly, while also leaving them ready for  more music.

He says, “I want to give all of us the confidence to live loud in the moment, make memories to  hold on to, and celebrate the good times while you can. Treat every night like it’s your last night,  so you won’t have any regrets.”

“Can You Hear Me” from Kyle Richardson is currently on Canadian radio and on all digital  streaming platforms. The music video is available on YouTube.

SPE3D – Time Trial

by the partae June 4, 2023
written by the partae

Prolific Melbourne producer SPE3D adds a new moment to his discography with the bass driven Time Trial. Harmonic from the starting line, the ethereal vocals are eventually overtaken by a ravenous bassline with enough bounce to leave a cloud of dust. “I was really unsure about this tune in terms of actually releasing it. This is a much more mellow tune, compared to previous SPE3D releases.” says SPE3D of the single

“A few positive comments and motivating words from friends and fellow producers really pushed me to finish this track.” Don’t be mistaken, the moments of gentle energy in the tune are fully balanced with the thumping bass and dancefloor energy that  we’ve come to love from SPE3D. The final drop has reference to broken breaks and katana blade slashes before hitting top gear with the 909 hats that accelerate us across the finish line.

Foley Interview

by the partae June 4, 2023
written by the partae
Where are you currently based?
Currently in Auckland New Zealand – we were both raised here and love this city, we have an awesome music community here of so many pals.

What’s been happening recently?
We are coming up to our headline tour across New Zealand which is going to be the first time we play the album for our fans. Its been such a groovy time experimenting with the songs to make them super impactful for the shows. Big vibes! We also just got back from New York where we visiting our Times Square EQUAL billboard in person – it was absolutely huge in person which was terrifying but so so so cool – such a pleasure to be the ambassador for the month and celebrate our favourite female acts.

Your latest single ‘Tongue’ is out now, what influenced the sound and songwriting?
The sound across the whole album has been influenced mostly by changing our process as opposed to listening to other artists or songs. We forced ourselves to experiment with our sound choices, and never pick the most palatable or easy sounds, but instead the more interested or unique sounds that would open our creativity up. For Tongue we focussed in on that one main hook and layered it with a lot of interesting and unfurling sounds that unravel and shift through the song.

How did you go about writing ‘Tongue’ — what was a highlight of the process for you guys??
We had just gotten back into the studio with Josh Fountain who is a producer we worked with on our first few songs – hes so so talented and amazing and such a great person to be around, so Tongue was the result of us being reunited and stoked to hang again. We just wanted to make something playful and light with a deep groove. Once we found the right pocket the song just felt so great. The main hook was something Josh had prepared before the session and the whole song really stemmed from that idea!  The highlight was really just being in the room together again, such a joy.

Where and when did you record/produce/master and who did you work with?
This was all in New Zealand with Josh Fountain – the man the myth the legend!

How did you approach the recording process, was it different to previous records?
We approached this with a lightness around the topic that we sometimes don’t have – often we will go pretty deep on the topic and have a huge chat about what were feeling – in this case the point of the song is to be light hearted, playful, and low stakes which is different for us. We had a lot of fun with the lyrics, especially around the pre chorus with some throwaway tongue and cheek moments.

What’s the NZ music scene like at the moment, what are some artists you could recommend as exciting discoveries?
NZ Music is thriving! We have so much talent especially in the pop and indie space. We have so many recommendations, and being the EQUAL ambassador has been an awesome way to share a few of those – I would recommend Molly Payton, LEISURE, alayna, Blu Brigada, and YAHYAH. There are so many others and we are so inspired by our peers.

How do you feel about being part of a wave of artists flying the flag for NZ pop?
We feel incredibly proud, especially considering the kiwi talent that has thrived before us. Benee, Lorde, Kimbra. We are ready to fly the flag every day and give it everything!

Who are you listening to at the moment?
Top of our shared playlist at the moment is Jeremy Zucker, Japanese Breakfast,, Ethel Cain, MUNA, and Tim Atlas!

What’s planned for the remainder of 2023?
We are releasing our debut album on August 25th – Crowd Pleaser. It’s honestly such a huge moment for us, we’ve always had a romantic connection to consuming music in album form. To get to see our music in this form, after so much love and care is just such a cool moment to stop and enjoy.

Favourite food and place to hangout?
I could eat dumplings every single day, and sometimes I do.

Favourite place to hang at the moment is our local RSA! Good vibes down there!

PSYCHIC SOCIAL CLUB Food Fights and Candle-lit Cigarettes: Naarm bands latest music video captures cathartic release

by the partae June 4, 2023
written by the partae
Previous Support for Psychic Social Club
“Anthemic, sweeping rock & roll that blazes with angular riffs and spacious melodies plus an emotive yet tight rhythm section that combine to create an urgency to the music that thrusts ‘We Don’t Talk’ into instant sing-along territory.” (Scenestr) [About ‘We Don’t Talk’]

“We Don’t Talk carries elements of classic Australian indie, catchy hooks, big guitar moments and infectious sing-along scenes. Driven with an underlying passion, it’s a heartfelt track that is popping from start to finish.” (AAA Backstage) [About ‘We Don’t Talk’]

“It’s such a big balloon of pop rock, this is mega infectious…”
(Declan Byrne, Triple J) [About ‘Worthless’]
“This band throw everything out here and I’m just super charmed by the full tilt effort.”
(Dave Ruby Howe, Triple J Unearthed) [About ‘Townsville’]

Naarm’s Psychic Social Club are following up their newest indie-rock single ‘We Don’t Talk’ with its hotly anticipated music video, depicting the tenacious track through a story of a relationship that’s run its course.

‘We Don’t Talk’ is a cathartic unbottling of emotions; a meditation on past relationships that have faded over time. With its fuzzy guitars, soaring chorus, and driving rhythm section, the song provides listeners with a therapeutic release of words unsaid.

Directed by Aidan Rice, the music video for ‘We Don’t Talk’ speaks to the meaning of the track, immersing viewers in a simple yet sadly relatable narrative. It begins in the dining room – the grim and despondent home capturing the detachment of a struggling relationship. A reluctant birthday cake, a slowly lit cigarette and an air of hopelessness communicate everything the audience needs to know about the status of this relationship.

As the song builds and the silence grows in a way that only words unsaid can, a food fight breaks the strain, cutting the tension and even giving a glimpse of once-shared joy. Amidst the chaos, the band performs the track in the living room, the perfect accompaniment to the couple’s anthem of emotional liberation.

Rice masterfully brings this short story to life, skilfully capturing the essence of the song’s emotional landscape. The washed-out colour palette and poignant moments contribute to an overall atmosphere of bittersweet melancholy, reflecting the realities of love slowly lost.

Speaking about the music video, Frontman Jared Roscioli said that it captured the meaning behind the band’s latest single.

“The video portrays the story of a couple whose relationship is on the brink, and while they both understand that staying together is detrimental, the pain of separation is too overwhelming. You start with a birthday celebration, a moment that should be joyous, but instead is tinged with sadness and introspection. You then follow with the release of emotions, that Aidan captures perfectly through the metaphor of a food fight, ending in a melancholy surrender. It’s the perfect visual representation of the complexities and contradictions of human relationships, and what we tried to capture with We Don’t Talk.”

Join in the cathartic release with ‘We Don’t Talk’ from Psychic Social Club and the accompanying music video, out now.

Stream ‘Smile More’
After just getting added to the Splendour In The Grass lineup, The Dandys  –the punk/ alt-rock newcomers hailing from Brisbane/Meanjin– have released their hard-hitting and razor-sharp new single, ‘Smile More’ (Friday, June 2). With a commanding presence and an unapologetic attitude, The Dandys bring their fierce energy to the forefront, tackling the urgent and important subject of sexual assault in a ferocious and empowering manner.

With just three previous single releases, The Dandys have garnered attention nationwide. The band recently embarked on their first national tour, supporting Hope D and Asha Jefferies across major cities, including Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Adelaide, and Brisbane. Additionally, they have graced esteemed festivals like Mountain Goat Valley Crawl and Jungle Love, and supported acts including The Grogans, Peach Fur and The Dreggs, solidifying their reputation as an electrifying live act.

Now, with ‘Smile More’, The Dandys unleash an anthem that demands attention. This fierce and angry track boldly confronts the experiences and aftermath of sexual assault, weaving a narrative that resonates with raw emotion and hard-hitting lyrics. Lead singer Mads Protheroe’s vocals cut through with ferocity, expressing the frustration, discomfort, and resilience that come with surviving such traumatic experiences.

In Protheroe’s own words, “‘Smile More’ is a song that explores the physical and emotional responses to sexual assault, as well as the lasting impact of these experiences. It’s about shedding light on the uncomfortable reality of feeling unsafe and the toxic expectations placed on women and female-presenting individuals. Through this song, we aim to empower everyone to stand up against such behaviour and reclaim their power.”

With its boppy-pop-rock package, ‘Smile More’ ingeniously merges catchy melodies with a profound message, aiming to raise awareness, encourage dialogue, and challenge societal norms. By amplifying the clichéd and derogatory remarks directed at women, The Dandys strip away their power, urging listeners to join in and dismantle the harmful narratives perpetuated by toxic culture.

The band’s previous releases have seen praise from the likes of Hysteria Mag, Music Feeds, Triple J Unearthed, Scenestr, AAA Backstage, MILKY, Livewire AU, idobi Anthem (US), and a heap of community radio stations across Aus.

The Dandys have a heap of shows coming up, including their slot at Splendour In The Grass, which they were recently awarded through the QUBE Effect run by the Brisbane City Council. They can also be caught supporting WAAX for their final shows on June 4, 8 and 9 at the Triffid and Adam Newling at Brisbane’s Brightside on June 3.

‘Smile More’ by The Dandys will be available on all major music platforms starting Friday, June 2. Prepare to be captivated by their fearless and unapologetic approach as they ignite conversations and empower audiences with their commanding music.

Hello Krissy Interview

by the partae June 4, 2023
written by the partae

Where are you currently based?

Gold Coast lad, born and raised. Got a love/hate relationship with this place, it has definitely moulded me into the artist I am today.

How did you first get into Punk/Rap?

First started getting into underground rap around 2016/2017, back when Soundcloud was at its peak. I used to walk to school every day listening to lil peep and lil tracy, xxxtentacian and so many other G.O.A.T.S. As for ‘Punk’ music, I’ve always been around different genres of rock growing up because of my Dad. He’s from London and grew up in the 70’s, so bands like Pink Floyd, The Sex Pistols and Queen were always on the radio or TV. Say what you want about Queen, but they were Punk as fuck. Same with Elton John and ABBA. Punk to me is just creating something new and having an impact on the world and that’s what that lot did.

What’s been happening recently?

Not much. Just started playing that new Hogwarts game.

Your latest song Oi C**T is out now, what influenced the sound and songwriting?

My city. Gold Coast is just a cesspool and I’m a product of my environment. I like to indulge sometimes. IYKYK

How did the track name come about?

It’s something I say on a daily basis

Where and when did you record/produce/master and who did you work with?

Recorded this track in my room off a couple green lizzy’s about a month ago. The beat is produced by this guy in Russia called Pluck Sunset. He’s crazy talented, super underrated. I got the homie Hidden to master the track on his PC cause he’s got all the crazy mastering plug-ins that I don’t have.

How did you approach the recording process?

Green lizzy’s

Who or what influences your sound?

So many things influence me and my sound. Definitely my friends, my city, Machine Girl, Nascar Aloe, Nirvana is a big influence as well. To be honest with you, I think my biggest inspiration is myself, not in like a cocky way but I just feel like I’m my own worst critique and I’m always trynna one up myself. Maybe it’s healthy, or maybe it’ll slowly drive me insane.

What other artists in the underground scene do you run with?

All the iwishh clique. Sabre, Med3vil, Digital Girl, Kl0ri, Pukeslxt, Omnirahn. Just all my friends. They mean so much to me. There’s too many people to list but they know who they are.

Who are you listening to at the moment?

Going through a weird mid-west emo phase at the moment but I bump Violent Soho, Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins religiously. And of course, all the iwishh clique. Also super random but savage garden be hittin different lately. Oh and Joji.

What’s planned for the remainder of 2023?

Keep making music, playing shows, and finishing this Hogwarts game.

Favourite food and place to hangout?

Cheeky Nandos and anywhere as long as I got a pack of Marlboro Golds and I’m with the homies.

Gold Coast-based (Kombumerri Country) First Nations artist Sunny Luwe, formerly known as Dani Teveluwe, returns to captivate listeners with her latest release, ‘Summer Kisses’. Following the success of her synth-y summer dream ‘Fly Like A Bird’, Sunny Luwe embraces her authentic musical journey with this blissful indie-folk gem, out today (Friday, June 2).

As a natural-born storyteller and Weilwan woman, Sunny Luwe effortlessly warms our winter with the sweetness of ‘Summer Kisses’. The track showcases her remarkable vocal ability, blending lush vocal layers, sweet subtle harmonies, and an effortless delivery that dances between near spoken word and a heartwarming vocal style. Recorded in a home studio, this labour of love underwent a transformative process to capture the essence of the song’s true sweetness.

Collaborating with Matt Collins of WHARVES, Sunny Luwe found the perfect musical partnership to bring ‘Summer Kisses’ to life. Their creative synergy is evident in the dreamy instrumentation and uplifting melodies that instantly transport listeners to sunny, blue-sky days. This upbeat and pleasant track invites you to stroll barefoot, bask in its warm and relaxing atmosphere, and immerse yourself in its lulling indie-folk charm.

In alignment with her commitment to the environment, Sunny Luwe has made her musical project carbon-neutral through carbon offsetting. With a deep sense of gratitude, she calculated the carbon footprint generated by the entire single release and offset it by donating funds to Rainforest 4, a North Queensland Conservation project focused on protecting the Daintree Rainforest from deforestation and preserving our old-growth rainforests.

Inspired by fellow artists in the industry, Sunny Luwe demonstrates her dedication to effecting meaningful change by supporting Rainforest 4’s mission through carbon offsetting. She recognizes the power of her guide (found on her artist webpage) she created to help encourage others to embrace carbon offsetting and contribute to a sustainable future.

As an artist who has received airplay on prominent radio stations such as Triple J, Double J, and community radio across Australia as well as Spotify editorial playlists including Original Storytellers, Sunny Luwe continues to captivate audiences and turn heads with her undeniable talent. Recently named an Indigenous Award Finalist for the 2023 Queensland Music Awards, Sunny Luwe is poised to make an even greater impact on the music scene.

‘Summer Kisses‘ is available on all major streaming platforms now, inviting listeners to warm their hearts and souls repeatedly with this delightful tune. Embrace the feel-good vibes and let Sunny Luwe’s musical magic transport you to sun-drenched days and carefree moments.

Chemical Surf and their fellow Brazilians Mevil and Enigmix have teamed up for a new release on Dim Mak‘s house imprint – A Good One. The result is a hypnotizing house single “Bad For U,” featuring a driving bassline, rhythmic kick drums and synths, alongside sultry vocals. As the weather heats up and parties really start to kick off, “Bad For U” is bound to be in heavy rotation on dance floors around the globe. It follows Chemical Surf‘s recent track “KIDS” with Jetlag Music., which dropped on Spinnin’ Records last month, as well as their latest Dim Mak release – “Dale Loca” with Anna Marchesini from October 2022.

“‘Bad For U‘ is a secret weapon in our sets since we made it. It’s making big crowds dance and also working very well in the clubs, and that’s why we are playing this song everywhere. Finally, it’s time to share it with the world. When we received the first idea from Mevil and Enigmix, we felt it could be something special. We worked on all the drums, build-up, construction of the track, and some details on the synths, and also mixed and mastered it later by ourselves. After that, we all were very happy with the result.” – Chemical Surf

“This is my 2nd collab with Enigmix and my 3rd with Chemical Surf. I was looking for a groovy song, so he sent me the vocals, and I got hyped since the first play on it. Then I just put the vocal on FL Studio, and 2 hours later, the main idea of the song was done.” – Mevil

“After Mevil sent me the main idea, I added a few synths and improved the whole groove of the song, and we decided to reach out to Chemical Surf for a collab 🙂” – Enigmix

Chemical Surf

Brazilian brother duo Luca and Hugo Sanches are together behind Chemical Surf which has become known for their high energy and rhythmic style. They have recently worked with Kaskade, Steve Aoki and put their own spin on MEDUZA‘s “Tell It To My Heart” and many others. Prior to releasing on Dim Mak, Chemical Surf‘s music has found a home on labels such as Spinnin’ Records, STMPD RCRDS, Musical Freedom, Armada, Sony, and Warner, to name a few. Chemical Surf challenges the electronic music status quo by breaking the lines between genres. With high musical sensibility. Keep an eye out for more coming from these talented rising stars very soon.

Drift release new dreamy alt rock single “Begin”

by the partae June 4, 2023
written by the partae

Fresh Wollongong alternative rock outfit Drift release soaring new single Begin just in time for their hometown headline show on June 3.

Swimming in jangly guitar layers and alluring vocal melodies, Begin dives into feelings of heartbreak and the pain of losing someone as an anchor, reflecting on the past and wanting to reclaim the present.

Vocalist Callum McCombie explains, “Begin was written from the depths of that feeling of wanting to hold onto something or someone you love so much that it becomes a detriment. Begin is trying to start again. A new beginning was the end of this period for me, and was a great step towards improving myself and the situation.”

Working with producer and engineer Chris Peruch, Drift fully embrace the sensibility of their shoe gaze and emo influences on Begin, carving out soundscapes that are equal parts powerful and moving for fans of bands like My Bloody Valentine, DIIV and Fiddlehead.

The Begin music video and visual artwork portray the band’s humble beginnings, showcasing a performance aspect where the band are jamming in a homely garage space, juxtaposed against an abstract and chaotic chess match between an angel and the devil. The game ultimately ends in the angels’ favour, depicting the idea that good will prevail. Watch here.

Drift are set to headline a show at Seeker Brewing in Unanderra on June 3 to celebrate the release of their new single, supported by friends in Busted Head Racket and Pictures With Yuki. Tickets are already moving quickly, and are available here. In addition, Drift have also announced they’ll support post-punk band dust on their upcoming et cetera, etc tour in Sydney on June 9, and will have more shows to announce very soon.

Drift is a project that has always set out to create easy listening material with emotional soundscapes. Forming in early 2020, Drift began as the solo shoegaze/emo project for frontman McCombie. Shortly after McCombie started working on music alone, the missing puzzle pieces fell into place when Nelson Thurgate (guitar), Ruben Dragone (drums) and Marley Mondzheyovsky (bass) joined the fold and solidified the outfit as a four-piece.

Drift have since been warmly welcomed into the live music circuit, selling out multiple hometown shows, sharing the stage with fellow Wollongong act TOTTY on a national tour in 2022 as well as showcasing their sound on the Factory Theatre stage at Glider Festival the year before.

The band has been hard at work developing a body of work that will see its release over the course of the year following the positive response from previous single At Last, which saw play on triple j Unearthed, a number of positive Unearthed reviews as well as play on triple j‘s Home and Hosed.

Begin is out today and is streaming everywhere now. Catch it live at Seeker Brewing June 3rd, tickets on sale now.

ELIZA HULL captivates with the release of ‘RUNNING UNDERWATER’ Touring the U.K. in May, Australian shows announced for August/September

by the partae June 4, 2023
written by the partae

Having established herself as one of Australia’s most important voices and striking songwriters of recent years, Melbourne-based artist Eliza Hull has proven the longevity of her art, and continued evolution.

With the release of her new single ‘Running Underwater’, the songwriter and musician embraces a beautiful new chapter of creative and personal expression; the threads of experiences from both sides of her being knitting together beautifully in creating a gorgeous piece of new music.

New music from Eliza Hull comes accompanied by a slew of live shows that will see Hull performing internationally throughout the U.K. in May, before returning home for some unmissable Australian performances in the second half of the year.

‘Running Underwater’ saw Hull work with ARIA Award-winning producer Pip Norman (Baker Boy, Missy Higgins) on production, recording the track at BIGBANG Studio. Mixed by Simon Lam (Woodes, Cub Sport) and mastered by Idania Valencia (Sam Smith), ‘Running Underwater’ – in its final form – lets the dynamism of Hull’s vocals and arrangement take prominence, flourishing with each sonic swell.

The track itself is the first indication of Hull’s current creative rhythm, and a taste of the material to come – her first since the release of her 2018 EP, How We Disappeared. ‘Running Underwater’, which was first performed by Hull during a powerful appearance on the ABC’s Q&A program in 2021, is the first song Hull has written about being disabled and living with a condition called ‘Charcot Marie Tooth’.

The condition, a degenerative nerve disorder, has affected Hull’s walking for a long time; it was a disability that she kept hidden, specifically in the music industry.

In recent years however, Hull has emerged as an accessibility advocate within the industry; her determinism and approach to educating and spurring on change in perspective and structure, when it comes to the way disabled musicians are treated within the industry, has been incredibly influential. ‘Running Underwater’ is a powerful musical representation of Hull’s strength, and an example of the artist coming further into her own.

“For a long time I hid my disability, especially in the music industry. This was due to under-representation of disabled musicians and  I was constantly shown that disability was a deficit or something that should be feared and hidden. It was such a heavy weight holding onto these beliefs, it was exhausting to constantly hide.

This song is about pushing up against society’s view of disability, it’s about letting go of the fear and being authentic and true to myself and showing that it’s ok to be different.“ ELIZA HULL

Single Artwork: Michelle Grace Hunder

Working with director Keiran Watson-Bounce (And Then Something Changed, Caravan), Hull has also produced a moving music video for ‘Running Underwater’, filmed at The Goods Shed in Castlemaine. Featuring the talents of dancer ‘roya the destroya’, the experience allowed Hull to bring the song to life in a beautifully unique way onscreen. And in doing so, has represented disability onscreen in a way not generally seen.

“The music video features my very good friend ‘roya the destroya’. She is a brilliant disabled dancer who moves like nobody I know. She actually started busking with an early version of the song and sent me a video of her performing with it. When I watched that video I knew I had to collaborate with her on the official music video.

She has a beautiful ability to inhibit what I am feeling in my music and then express that through movement. In the music video she is like my alter-ego, almost like the spirit part of what I am feeling in the lyrics. Keiran Watson-Bonnice is the director of the music video. We have worked together in the past on the ABC Kids TV show And Then Something Changed, which I produced and wrote the music for. We shot the clip in one day, in mostly one take in the Goods Shed on a freezing winter’s day. “ ELIZA HULL

The way Eliza Hull can captivate a room has propelled her onto the national radar, with many notable performances at venues and events including the Sydney Opera House, Ability Fest, Forum Theatre, Hamer Hall, NYE On The Hill and more leaving audiences speechless. Hull has made an impact at showcase events including BIGSOUND and SXSW, as well touring with the likes of Ainslie Wills, BATTS, Mia Dyson, SAFIA and more.

Her songwriting talents have led Hull to co-write with artists including Gordi and Odette – collaborations both set to appear on her forthcoming EP, Here They Come (due later this year), while her music has been featured in TV shows including U.S productions Awkward, Teen Wolf, Saving Hope, and in Australia on The Heights and And Then Something Changed.

PRAISE FOR ELIZA HULL

“Eliza Hull creates lush music, where her soaring vocals are still the star.”
Pilerats

“Eliza plays the part of a sea siren luring a ship to wreck. You can have a role too – you’ll be the captain who ends up splayed against the defined emotional rocks of this song.”
Triple J Unearthed, Dave Ruby Howe

“Swoony English vibes. Eliza’s voice cuts through nicely.”
Triple J, Richard Kingsmill

“Her music is calm and ethereal, you are floating in it. All for fans of The xx, dreamy female vocals and progressive music, will surely appreciate her.”
Stereofox

“Enchanting and textured, Eliza’s voice aims straight for the heart in the same way that Lana Del Rey, Angus and Julia Stone, and Florence and the Machine overwhelm us with their beauty.”
The AU Review

Kicking off the ‘Running Underwater’ cycle in the live space, fans will be able to see Eliza Hull performing in Australia this August and September, performing in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

For fans based overseas, Hull will be touring the U.K. in May, supporting Ruth Lyon as well as showcasing at The Great Escape in Brighton.

‘Don’t Talk About It’ – First play on Triple J Unearthed TOPS
“Haunting…but in the most vibrant way possible!” 4 / 5 (Anika Luna, Triple J Unearthed) [About ‘Don’t Talk About It’

“Don’t Talk About It firmly snapshots Super Ghost’s diverse genre sensibilities, stretching the indie rock trope into slinky and lush territory.”
(Hysteria)
“Built off a foundation of indie rock, the pair of Hudson MacMahon and Alexander Shoesmith aren’t afraid to colour outside the lines, adding elements of ‘crisp indie-pop undertones, surf-rock swells and elements of spaghetti western sauve’ to the mix.”
(Scenestr)“Rising from the Gold Coast, the sound of their dreamy undertone, dissolved by a propelling energy, mediates the lasting impression of Super Ghost.”
(Good Call Live)“Super Ghost have nailed a particular vibe on Waiting List”
(AAA Backstage)

‘Waiting List’ music video showcased at the

Melbourne International Animation Festival 2023

With their signature blend of influences and sounds, Super Ghost takes audiences on a winding rollercoaster of emotions in their new triumphant indie-rock track ‘Friendless’ (Out Friday, June 2).

Following an incredible year in 2022 and the success of their debut EP ‘Left For Dust’ in 2021, Super Ghost continues to impress with ‘Friendless’. This refined track delves deep into the complex journey individuals face when disconnected from their values and reluctant to admit their need for help. Through its raw and emotive lyrics, ‘Friendless’ tackles the stigma surrounding mental health, shedding light on the challenges that arise when pride prevents seeking assistance.

Lead vocalist Hudson MacMahon shares insight into the song’s inspiration, stating, “‘Friendless’ is a powerful exploration of the emotional journey individuals experience when they disconnect from their own values and struggle to admit their need for help. It confronts the complexity of mental health, addressing the stigma surrounding it and the difficulties that arise when someone is too proud to acknowledge their struggles.”

‘Friendless’
showcases a captivating sonic journey with its contrasting elements, seamlessly transitioning from mellow and melancholic verses to adrenaline-packed choruses through tempo changes. The track continuously evolves, building anticipation and intensity as it progresses, culminating in an epic rock crescendo. Gracefully drifting away, ‘Friendless’ closes out with the delicate touch of a gentle guitar solo.

This is paired with the song’s twisting melody and poignant lyrics that invite listeners to reflect on their own encounters with mental health challenges and emphasize the importance of seeking support when necessary.

Alexander Shoesmith, reflecting on the song, adds, “‘Friendless’ is our most emotive song to date. It explores the damage that can result from mental breakdowns, particularly in those who are strong, stubborn, and proud. When grappling with personal struggles, it can be tempting to push away loved ones and attribute one’s own shortcomings to others. However, this cycle can be never-ending and exhausting. ‘Friendless’ is a reflection on the aftermath of a collapse, wondering if we can help rebuild without enduring further pain.”

Having secured support slots for prominent acts like Mid City (VIC) and Choosing Sides (SA), the trio has consistently sold out headlining shows at notable venues such as Vinnie’s Dive Bar (Gold Coast), Greaser Bar (Brisbane), and The Bearded Lady (Brisbane). They have also made their mark on the East Coast, performing in Tambourine, the Sunshine Coast, Kingscliff, Byron Bay, and Newcastle.

With the support of the Regional Arts Development Fund in partnership with the Gold Coast City Council, Super Ghost continues to deliver their intoxicating fusion of genres and sounds, captivating audiences across the nation.

Vicetone Continues Their “Departing Reality” EP Rollout with New Emotive and Personal Dancefloor-Friendly Single “The World Has A Heartbeat”

by the partae June 4, 2023
written by the partae

Artist: Vicetone
Title: The World Has A Heartbeat
Label: Self-released

Download / Stream

The Dutch duo Vicetone is back with their newest track from their forthcoming “Departing Reality” EP – scheduled for a release this summer. “The World Has A Heartbeat” is a very special record to these Platinum-certified artists, as it throws back to their signature sound that the listeners and their fans know from Vicetone‘s earlier hits. Fusing breathy vocals and cinematic melodies, and even guitar instrumentals with a funky and digitized drop, “The World Has A Heartbeat” is both emotionally charged and dancefloor-friendly. The record follows Vicetone‘s recent single “Dopamine Junkie” and precedes the full EP coming out this summer and Vicetone‘s EP-backed tour. Keep an eye out for the drop and tour dates coming soon!

“This song is very special to us. The sound of the drop is inspired by the classic Vicetone sound of ‘Nevada‘ and ‘Walk Thru Fire,’ but with a fresh mix of our newer sound as well. We’re so excited to share this with our fans and hope the melody and music resonate with people.” – Vicetone

Since forming in 2012, Vicetone have brought both sophisticated musicality and untamed imagination to all of their output. Musicians/producers Ruben den Boer and Victor Pool craft every song with profound attention to detail, creating an emotionally charged brand of dance music that’s led them to amass over 1 billion combined streams across all platforms to date and brought them global notoriety. In all of their material, Vicetone taps into the creative chemistry they discovered upon writing their first track together in college. Bound by a passion for groundbreaking dance music, the duo made their debut with 2012’s “Harmony” and promptly began landing gigs around Europe, eventually bringing their exhilarating live show to festivals around the world. As their global following grew exponentially, Vicetone soon took North America and Asia by storm. Successes include their 2019 single “Something Strange“, a #1 hit on SiriusXM‘s BPM channel, “Nevada” (over 212 million streams on Spotify), and a viral hit with “Astronomia” (almost 310 million streams on Spotify alone) – the track that soundtracked a global TikTok meme, quickly amassing over 1 million combined daily streams, which is certified Gold in France and Germany and also reaching Platinum in Norway, Sweden, and Finland. It was also top 10 on Spotify’s Global Viral Top 50 and the 2nd most Shazamed song worldwide. Delivering their most sonically ambitious body of work yet, Vicetone released their debut album – “Legacy,” on April 2nd, 2021 via Monstercat. Summer 2023 sees the release of their EP titled “Departing Reality.”

No Longer Kids Interview

by the partae May 31, 2023
written by the partae
Where are you currently based?
We’re from the Melbourne South east suburbs.

How did the band form?

It was a little after covid we (band members Blake and Jackson) got back in touch years after high school. We’d just go to Blake’s house and play some covers and old favourites (silver chair, nirvana, foo fighters and so on) until we decided to make our own music in the summer of 2022. Shortly after we released our first song officially (under the weather) in august 2022, we introduced keenan, our second Guitarist into the band, who we’d been doing some rehearsals with for a couple months. We all bonded over the love of the same music and having the same energy in our playing. We also love a cold tap.

What’s been happening recently?

Since the release of our first single back in august 2022, we’ve been writing more songs, releasing more music and doing a line of live shows based in the Mornington peninsula. Building our repertoire and evolving our sound.
How’s it been growing up in Melbourne?

I’ve always felt like Melbourne has had this great culture attached to it even when I was growing up; catching AFL games with my mates, being able to go into the Dandenong ranges for hike trips, weekends away at Phillip island to surf, or experience a rich city life atmosphere in the CBD. It’s fair to say I’ve always felt very lucky to be here.
What’s the Melbourne music scene like at the moment?

I feel like the Melbourne music scene is coming back in a way I’ve never experienced. Almost reinforced after covid maybe? More often then not nowadays I hear my mates saying there going to see live music and bands play rather than go out clubbing or something alike. It’s seems to have a really strong local support behind it wherever you go, which is something I hold very highly about this city and community.
What or who influenced your single ‘Crash And Burn’?

The influence behind crash and burn came in three parts, kind of like a ‘before after and now’ situation. I remember feeling like a was always coming in and out of relationships in general and ultimately the feeling I remember the most was the ‘crashing’ and burning’ part. Or the ‘after and now’.  You know like there’s always good and bad moments, but for me musically I seem to draw the most off the bad. That’s not me saying that’s a good thing to do, it’s just the way it is for me haha.
How did this single come about?

Well after we had the key components of the music in our hands and the general tone for the track, we took it into the band properly and trialed it in a set. I think we had maybe 3-4 different versions from memory. But the one you hear is the one we loved.

Where and when did you record and who did you work with?

We recorded crash and burn in early April with Tim from restless noise studio at wrangler studios in Footscray. Great spot always feels like a little piece of home in there.

Do you have further plans for an EP?

We definitely plan on bringing an EP out by the end of the year. And we plan to continue to build on it everyday until then.

What’s planned for 2023 and beyond?
We just wanna continue on the path we’re on at the moment. We’re all loving it and just wanna enjoy every bit. I think it’s important to remember the journey.  we started by playing music in a house packed with our mates just for a good time and a few laughs. We hope if you come to any of our shows you can be apart of that experience with us.
Who are you listening to at the moment?
At the moment we’re listening to this track called whole by basement. We found it surfing YouTube one night after rehearsals. Love the all around flow and energy of this song.
Favourite food and place to hangout?

Favourite food would probably be gyg if we’re talking takeaway. If we’re talking cooked meals you can’t skip nannas gnocch come over for a bowl you’ll lose your mind. If we’re hanging anywhere good, (only the real ones will know) it’s The Hollow.
