by the partae November 15, 2022
written by the partae

A carefree dance-pop jam, ‘Who Cares’ pairs bouncy, playful production with Alex’s scintillating vocal range. It follows recent singles ‘Dinner For Two’, ‘True’ with platinum-selling singer-songwriter Karen Harding, and ‘Trouble’, a collaboration with fellow UK artist Georgia Ku, with all four tracks set to feature on Cutting Through Noise.

Multi-instrumentalist, producer and songwriter Jonasu has, in a short space of time, climbed to the forefront of the rising stars list in the pop and dance music world. With over 2 billion streams and 4 million monthly listeners, he has gained international recognition amongst his peers and fans alike. Recent single ‘Black Magic’ has been a certified hit, reaching #3  in the UK ‘Top 20’ and racking up 400 million streams.

A proven talent as a songwriter and artist in her own right, Australian Alex Hosking has already made a big impact as co-writer and featured vocalist on PS1 hits ‘Fake Friends’ and ‘Life Goes On’, tracks that have amassed over 90 million combined streams. Her huge crossover appeal was underlined by A-lists at BBC Radio 1, Kiss FM and Capital Radio.

Pierce The Veil Announce New Album ‘The Jaws Of Life’ Out February 10 & Shares Video For New Single ‘Emergency Contact’

by the partae November 14, 2022
written by the partae

Platinum-selling powerhouse Pierce The Veil  — guitarist/vocalist Vic Fuentes, guitarist Tony Perry, and bassist Jaime Preciado — have announced their new album The Jaws of Life. It arrives February 10, 2023 via longtime label Fearless Records. Pre-order it here.

Today, the band has shared the video for the latest single, Emergency Contact.

“There’s so much desperation underlying the lyrics of this song,” shares Fuentes. “It talks about a relationship where one person is ready to take things to the next level while the other is still unsure. One person is begging the other to either move forward or to let them out because being stuck in the middle is torture.”

He continues, “I wrote this song in Seattle at Mike Herrera from MXPX’s home studio. He let me live there for a couple of months while working on the record. I love writing in Seattle because it gives me all of the ’90s grunge rock vibes. Plus, it rains all the time, and I love the rain.”

As for The Jaws of Life as a whole, Fuentes says, “This album has truly brought us closer than we’ve ever been. It was extremely difficult for us to be off the road and apart for so long. We’ve never missed anything more than playing music together and never had such an strong appreciation for recording, touring, and simply being in the same room together than we do now. The Jaws of Life is about how life can sink its teeth into you and try to devour you. The negativity in the world and within your mind can be a vicious thing. We’re extremely grateful for this record, our fans, and the opportunity to play live music again.”

Pierce The Veil have become iconic in their genre — and rightfully so. Their return has been fiercely welcomed, receiving press praise from Paper, Gawker, MTV, Ones to Watch, Yahoo, and more. Meanwhile, the first single Pass the Nirvana racked up over 13 million streams since its September bow.

They’ve also debuted atop Billboard’s Top Rock Albums, Alternative Albums, and Hard Rock Albums charts twice – first with Collide With the Sky (2012) and its follow-up, Misadventures (2016). A decade after its release, the already platinum King for a Day shot to No. 1 on Billboard’s Hard Rock Streaming chart, driven by the viral #KingForADay hashtag on TikTok. Even with two gold singles and a gold album, this coming year could be their biggest yet.

Because this is the year of The Jaws of Life.

The band Rolling Stone once described as “hyperactive, progressive post-hardcore,” returns with album number five, full of fuzzy guitars, massive melodic hooks, and PTV’s distinct emotional heart. The Jaws of Life is Pierce The Veil at their most raw —crackling with urgency and immediacy. Never predictable, always engaging, Pierce The Veil continue to soar on the strength of highly potent energy, rich musicality, and a scrappy sense of authentic exuberant ambition that’s frankly unrivaled. Fuentes, Perry, and Preciado put volatile, angsty, confessional emotions into the music, which is why their songs resonant with so many. “No matter where the band performs, fans will show up,” wrote Loudwire. “When you see Pierce The Veil live, you’ll understand why.”

PTV’s evolution from album to album is nothing less than stunning. The early buzz generated by A Flair for the Dramatic (2007) made its follow-up one of the most anticipated albums of 2010. Selfish Machines shot to No. 1 on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart. The Chicago Tribune saluted Collide with the Sky for its “post-hardcore punk with more than a few nods to Queen.” They became a true arena act on Misadventures, selling out huge venues without losing the intimate connection with their fans.

The Jaws of Life was produced by Paul Meany (Twenty One Pilots, Mutemath, The Blue Stones), and mixed by Adam Hawkins (Machine Gun Kelly, Turnstile, Twenty One Pilots). Deadly serious subject matter abounds, but Pierce The Veil enduringly navigates it all with grace. The lyrics continue the Fuentes tradition of painstaking honesty and clever twists of phrase. Pierce The Veil perform at the biggest festivals and is counted among the biggest and brightest of a younger generation of bands. But it all starts with the songs. The Jaws of Life is filled with the kind to keep the PTV fire burning forever.

Pierce The Veil are currently on the road with I Prevail, Fit For A King and Stand Atlantic.

Behani

by the partae November 14, 2022
written by the partae

Where are you currently based?

 Based in Melbourne Australia.

How did you first start playing music?

I started to create music from my small home studio when I was 15. I grew a curiosity in composing beats and how it would make me feel a variety of emotions. Music connected me to my emotional side when I was a teenager

What’s been happening recently?

I have been extremely busy working on a number of swim lanes. Im currently working with different producers on my collection of music across a range of genres, including RnB, afrobeats, reggeaton & pop. Managing my music company and all the moving components. My upcoming shows where I will be performing both singles Let Me Know and Real Man. My first show is in Nigeria, Lagos for flytime festival on the 20th- 24th December with headline acts including Burnaboy, Wizkid, Craig David, Niki Minaj & Davido. My second show is in my home country Australia for Juicy festival with an old school RnB line up including Ludacris, Bow-Wow, Mya and Ne-Yo who I will be performing with across Brisbane, Sydney and finally my hometown Melbourne.

Your debut single ‘Let Me Know’ is out now, what influenced the sound and songwriting?

I’ve always been inspired by the King of music Michael Jackson and his ability to make people want to move through powerful metaphors. The instrumentation arrangement of ‘Let Me Know’ really focused on the heavy side of drum set, drum machine, strings and voice. I love writing songs about love. I think love is underrated, and such a complicated and powerful topic to connect with humanity.

Where and when did you record/produce then record and who did you work with?

I recorded Let Me Know in the infamous Circle House Studio  in Miami. I worked directly with Scott Storch in the creation of the beat whilst I wrote the lyrics and melody.

You worked with powerhouse producer Scott Storch in Miami, how was this experience?

Incredible. Since I was a teenager I always looked up to Scott! For the first time I was able to create a track from scratch with him and it was an amazing experience as an artist. I watched his range of techniques- how he lays foundations, the plugins he uses when picking the sounds, how he defines the songs structures and chooses the right tempo and so much more!

Who are you listening to at the moment?

I love the producer Sarz and Wizkid from Nigeria, Lagos.  The tracks Essence and Monalisa both have a strong soulful element in their technique.

Please tell us about any upcoming music releases.

I have just released my single Let Me Know which will be followed up with my single with Ne-Yo called Real Man, we have just launched the track in the U.S. and will be releasing it in Australia shortly. It’s a RnB song with a powerful message of empowerment for both men and women.

We hear your next single is a collaboration with Ne-Yo, how did this come about and what was it like working together?

I was scheduled to create a beat with Scott Stortch and co-write with Neyo on that beat.  Ne-Yo was not meant to be singing on my track but the concept both lyrically and melodically along with the beat was so strong that he asked how I would feel about him singing a verse on Real Man and see how it sounds which I accepted with excitement and joy! It was incredible working with two legends at their game! They hadn’t worked together since their hit single Let Me Love You by Mario so it was nostalgic coming together and creating magic from scratch!

What’s planned for the remainder of 2022 going into 2023? Tell us about your upcoming performance in Lagos.

I have  my first show on December 20th-24th in Nigeria Lagos for Flytime Festival. There are 60 artists performing with headlining acts including Wizkid, Davido, BurnaBoy, Craig David & Niki Minaj. I’m also going to be creating my first Afrobeats EP on this trip so stay tuned for it release in 2023.

I then have my first tour in January for Juicy Festtival where I will perform Real Man with Ne-Yo. We will be touring together across Brisbane on the 13th, Sydney on the 14th and Melbourne on the 15th.

I’m currently in strict rehearsals with the Ministry of Dance Australia and working with a Afrobeats choreographer for my show in Nigeria. I’m very excited

Favourite food and place to hang out in Melbourne?

I’m a real foodie. I love cooking Italian, Greek, Persian food but when we go out some of my favourite restaurants are Mario’s in Fitzroy, Cosi, Afghan gallery and the list is endless!

(Hysteria Mag)

“They’re hitting where it hurts with post-breakup bitterness, but in a way that just sounds so good”
(Heavy Mag)

“Nocturnal Animals pack a punch with their raw alt-rock/punk sound”
(Aus Music Scene)

Stream ‘Paint A Picture’

Adelaide/Tarndanya Aussie skeleton punk band, Nocturnal Animals, serve up their awaited debut EP–’Paint A Picture’ (November 4).

In-your-face drumming, fuzz-ridden guitars and punching punk-rock vocals; this paints a picture of Nocturnal Animals. Their electrifying live performances have landed them support slots with the DZ Deathrays, The Buoys, Nerve and Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, and now they’re here to make a statement with their 6-track EP ‘Paint A Picture’.

Following their latest releases ‘Passive Tone’ and ‘A Simple Fuck You’, Nocturnal Animals have animated their own audience from Sydney, Melbourne and their hometown in Adelaide.

‘Paint A Picture’ contributes to the themes of their latest singles–cutting toxic people out of your life and dropping the burden and grief that follows you like a ball and chain. Nocturnal Animals explore dysfunctional relationships, expectations to conform to societal norms and finding confidence in yourself whilst secretly suffering.

The EP opens with ‘All My Cares’, an iconic track for those who are done with pulling the short straw. This moody piece opens the EP with attitude-filled guitars, relatable chants and moody lead guitar lines. The second track, ‘King of the Dolphins’, is the anthem of the corner guy–the person doing their own thing at the party without the need of validation from anyone else.

Crowd-favourite single, ‘A Simple Fuck You’, continues to push the punk EP with grit and grinding guitars. The scathing energy from Nocturnal Animals is consistent on ‘Paint A Picture’, presenting their manifesto on where everyone can stick it. ‘Tyler’s Song’ is dedicated to Bamm’s little sister and explores toxic relationships and seeing somebody trapped hopelessly, sometimes without realising it themselves. ‘Tyler’s Song’ encourages seeking your individuality and finding value in your own character.

The fifth track of the EP is the bands lead single ‘Passive Tone’. Seething anger, a bleeding tongue and a clenched fist summarises ‘Passive Tone’; talking to people who don’t think you’re worth their time of day. Entwined elements of punk-rock, pop-punk and alternative rock provide ‘Paint A Picture’ with a unique twist on a classic punk-rock record that’s characterised perfectly in their closing track ‘Picturesque’. After dealing with pretentious idiots, twisted partners and societal pressure, it’s easy to raise a middle finger, but hard to wake up in the morning and realise that you’re scared. ‘Picturesque’ opens with a floating synth and electronic drums and encapsulates the deep-rooted feelings of isolation and anxiety that are lying under your sternum, covered by your facade.

Nocturnal Animals describe their debut EP saying:

“Paint A Picture‘ is a fuck you with a smile! The emotions of letting go of all your cares and saying a simple fuck you to all the people that have given you grief with a passive tone. You will go through a musical journey through letters and pages from a diary that represent the feeling of coming into your own; walking with the confidence of not giving a shit whilst recognising underneath that you’re scared.”

‘Passive Tone’ and ‘A Simple Fuck You’ has already received press from AAA Backstage, Punktuation, HEAVY Mag, Hysteria Mag, Aus Music Scene and The Faction. Nocturnal Animals with their modern punk energy has stirred national radio play from Triple J, spot rotation on Triple J Unearthed as well as a variety of community radio stations across Australia.

‘Paint A Picture’ drops on November 4. Don’t pack away your halloween decorations yet because these skeletons are out of the closet for good.

The Teskey Brothers Return With ‘This Will Be Our Year’

by the partae November 11, 2022
written by the partae
‘THIS WILL BE OUR YEAR’ IS A COVER OF THE ZOMBIES ORIGINAL
+ PERFORMANCE WITH ORCHESTRA VICTORIA NEXT WEEK (SYD)
+ ARIA NOMINATION FOR BEST BLUES & ROOTS FOR
LIVE AT HAMER HALL WITH ORCHESTRA VICTORIA
+ HEADLINE SHOW IN DEC AT THE PALACE FORESHORE (MELB)

The Teskey Brothers make their eagerly anticipated return with the release of their new single, ‘This Will Be Our Year’ – a cover of the classic song by The Zombies, and a timely sentiment as we approach 2023. On this version of the track, we hear the psychedelic-era pop sound of the original is supplanted by classic Teskey Brothers soul.

“We just played it in our way,” says Sam. “That’s the cool thing—sometimes when you try and cover something and you don’t spend too long trying to make it perfect, you just naturally fall into your own way of playing it and it naturally becomes your own thing.”

‘This Will Be Our Year’ sees the band collaborate with producer Eric J Dubowsky for the first time, whose CV includes records by Flume, Chet Faker and Weezer. The new music arrives ahead of the band’s performance with Orchestra Victoria next Fri 18th November at the Aware Super Theatre in Sydney, in celebration of their album Live At Hamer Hall, nominated for Best Blues and Roots Album at this year’s ARIA Awards. The band will then round out the year playing at Harvest Rock, Queenscliff Music Festival and a special headline show at the Palace Foreshore for Always Live on Sun Dec 4 in Melbourne.

The Teskey Brothers version of ‘This Will Be Our Year’ retains the harmonic and melodic integrity of the Zombies original, but in their hands, ‘This Will Be Our Year’ feels untethered to the past, newly animated by Josh’s distinctive vocal expression. The arrangement is unfussy, decorated with organs, horns and a hint of Muscle Shoals in the rhythm section. They haven’t given it a complete facelift, but the psychedelic-era pop sound of the original is supplanted by classic Teskey Brothers soul.

“’This Will Be Our Year’ is one of the most beautiful and interesting songs of all time, that everyone SHOULD know but not many people have really heard of… The question I keep asking is ‘how did they fit so many beautiful lyrics into that rhythm and melody?’ It shouldn’t work so well. But it does. I love this song and the sentiment to bring in the new year. ‘This Will Be Our Year’ by The Zombies, the Teskeyfied version. Happy festive season and bring on 2023!” – Josh Teskey

The Teskey Brothers are one of the great success stories in contemporary soul and roots music. Rooted in the partnership between vocalist Josh Teskey and his brother, guitarist and engineer Sam Teskey, the soul and R&B outfit from Warrandyte on the fringes of Melbourne have made their mark on the mainstream since releasing their debut album, Half Mile Harvest, in January 2017. The Teskey Brothers’ second album, 2019’s Run Home Slow, reached #2 in Australia and resonated with audiences across the globe, leading to major headline shows in London, Amsterdam and New York.  In the wake of its success, The Teskey Brothers landed slots at major festivals like Bonnaroo and Japan’s Fuji Rock, performed in front of ten-thousand people at Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre and appeared on US network TV show Jimmy Kimmel Live!  Along the way, Sam Teskey earned a Grammy nomination for Best Engineered Album and The Teskey Brothers released a live album Live At The Forum, landing their first Australian #1 album.

TOUR DATES

Australian Metalcore Outfit Throwaway Deliver Their Sophomore EP ‘Weight’

by the partae November 11, 2022
written by the partae

Previous Support for Throwaway

“Getting To Me illustrates the breaking point; the pent-up pressure boiling to burst; the eruption of emotion over a situation you can’t sleep off.”
(HEAVY MAG) [About ‘Getting To Me’]

“Getting To Me hits home early with it’s thick and rich prog sound, ripping guitar work meet slamming drums and a huge anthemic vocal delivery.”
(AAA Backstage) [About ‘Getting To Me’]

Stream ‘Weight’

Adelaide/Tarndanya-based alt-rock/metalcore outfit Throwaway are back with their sophomore EP–‘Weight’ out November 11.

Since the inception of Throwaway in 2015, the trio has gained a cult following in the Adelaide alternative scene. Independently releasing an EP, an album and a handful of singles, Throwaway are back with their greatest work yet on their sophomore EP ‘Weight’. Consisting of Zak Kerrison, Adrian Emili and Bailey O’Brien, the three-piece utilises complex time signatures and unusual song structures to create a signature push and pull to their modern metalcore sound.

The EP opens with the delayed guitar lines and energetic drums that you expect from Throwaway. When you’re pushed under and worked to your limits, ‘Pressure’ is the anthemic alt-rock song that drives you to turn that pressure into motivation and breakthrough your struggles.

The second track, ‘Bad Vibes’, was written about a friend who’s falling down a dark path of internet-fueled lies, conspiratorial media and hate. ‘Bad Vibes’ is a metalcore mosh-piece filled with huge breakdowns and chugging guitars, discussing the self-destruction and alienation associated with influential lies propagated on the internet.

Next up is Throwaway’s recent lead single, ‘Getting To Me’; illustrating the breaking point of obsessing over a situation outside of your control.

Opening the second half of the EP is ‘Denied’, the love child of Bring Me The Horizon and In Hearts Wake’s debut album–a fury of metalcore breakdowns with a chilling electronic undertone. Exploring the decline in privacy on the internet, ‘Denied’ is a plea for others to recognise the power behind multinationals and the information they have on your purchases, habits and daily activities in the modern ‘Big Brother’ world.

Throwaway turned it up a notch for their other single, ‘Crisis’; a track the band describes as a completely balls-to-the-wall, pedal-to-the-metal heavy song.

The EP then ends ‘Weight’ on a low note with ‘Gone Too Soon’, a moody journal entry about losing a close friend to suicide. As a memoir reflecting on the past, ‘Gone Too Soon’ asks the question, ‘What else could I have done?’ Throwaway portrays the thoughtfulness and emotion behind this track bringing a fitting ending to their sophomore EP.

Exploring digital privacy, conspiracy theories spread on social media and the mental health pandemic, Throwaway has crafted a metalcore EP fitting to the booming Adelaide/Tarndanya alternative scene. ‘Weight’ is about taking the learned experiences behind life’s traumas and turning them into something that brings you strength and power to better yourself and help others around you.

Throwaway discusses the themes behind their new EP:

“As the title suggests this EP revolves around the theme of “Weight”, with each of the songs exploring a different feeling associated with weight.

‘Crisis’ is about the state of the world and how quickly everything can come undone due to one small decision. The weight of the world can really be in one person’s hands, where ‘Bad Vibes’ is more about social standards and the weight of other people’s opinions. ‘Pressure’ steps into the feeling of standards being set that feel unachievable, but not giving in to the voices telling you to give up. ‘Gone Too Soon’ is all about the impact the loss of a loved one has on a person, a very heavy feeling that everyone has experienced at some point in their life.

Throughout the entire listening experience ‘Weight’ has to offer, there’s at least one song that everyone can relate to.”

Throwaway have found media support in HEAVY Mag, AAA Backstage and Loud Mag as well as becoming playlisted on Australian Music Scene, Adelaide Heavy Scene and Tuna Tuesday. Their song, ‘Thrown Off Track’ found over 40,000 streams on Spotify, with the band going on to win the Adelaide Uni People’s Choice Award twice in 2018.

Take a step back and weigh the importance of every decision when ‘Weight’ drops on November 11.

It’s something that we can easily lose sight of, but WA indie-pop songwriting duo The Money War are here to remind us all of an important truth with their beautifully special new song, ‘Somebody Loves You’, coming out on Nov 11.

The Money War is the musical and romantic partnership of Carmen Pepper and Dylan Ollivierre. Making music together since 2016, the BMG/Mirror Publishing-signed pair have toured with none other than Meg Mac, Dope Lemon, Holy Holy and were handpicked by Neil Finn to open for his shows. In addition to playing local festival FOTSUN, they’ve also crossed the seas for the eponymous SXSW, BIGSOUND and Southbound Festival. They’ve received a stack of nominations along the way, most notably having debut album ‘Home’ up for the Australian Music Prize.

With two albums, and three EP’s under their belts after the release of ‘Blood’ EP in 2021, Pepper and Ollivierre continue to add their ever-growing catalogue of music. They now share the important message found on ‘Somebody Loves You’.

The track’s uplifting melody melts with sincerity from the very first taste. Generously encompassing the undeniable force of love, ‘Somebody Loves You’ is yet another gem that affirms their knack for songwriting, with the Midas touch afforded by the chemistry of their pairing. It’s an instant classic that will leave listeners floating into the ether, or perhaps into the arms of somebody that loves them.

The Money War elaborate on where this song began.

“The song came about after I’d been pondering how interconnected everyone and everything is. Such an obvious realisation, like the fact that everyone is a child to someone, can weirdly be so mind blowing when you’ve been stuck in your own tiny world.” Dylan Ollivierre says, with Carmen Pepper adding:
“I guess the overall message is one of reassurance – that we should try and see the big picture even when we feel somewhat alone or insignificant.” Carmen

Weaving their musical prowess wherever they go, the band have received rave reviews from Tone Deaf, Rolling Stone AU, Blunt Mag, NME, TheMusic AU and much more. They’ve also seen ongoing support from Triple J, Double J, Triple J Unearthed  BBC6, KCRW, NPR, RTRFM, FBi, 4ZZZ, Double J, plus their track ‘Recall’ was Triple J’s 5th most played song in its year of release. Add to that their various playlist popularity and millions of streams on digital platforms – there’s no doubt that The Money War are doing something right.

Feel your heart burst when ‘Somebody Loves You’ is released on November 11 care of the ever-talented duo, The Money War.

Stream ‘Wash Over Me’

Dabbling in a variety of genres and sonic textures, Sam Marks makes music underpinned by his emotive and musical depth, and a distinctively husky voice. The Sydney/ Gadigal artist is making a return with the hazy indie-rock single ‘Wash Over Me’ out Nov 11.

The indie-rock artist has been busy making waves since his first release in 2020, despite a couple of postponed plans. With four singles under his belt so far, he has time and time again carved out laid-back, feel-good tunes and has pieced together another one to add to the mix with the help of producer Callum Howell (Ocean Alley, Le Shiv, The Rions).

On Sam Marks’ fifth release, we drift out with fuzzed-out riffs and a goosebump-inspiring chorus. Swaying to a bluesy pace and bursting with raw sincerity, ‘Wash Over Me’ climbs higher with a truly epic guitar solo, amplifying the singer’s gorgeous vocals to the nth degree.

‘Wash Over Me’ encapsulates a feeling the musician has carried throughout his life, as he reveals:

“I often feel disconnected or detached from reality, moving in a strange and distant motion, like common reality is far ahead and I’m unable to catch up. I’ve used lyrics and metaphor as an evocative tool to build feeling and colour that relates to my experiences.”

Sam Marks has clocked up over 62,000+ streams and seen support by Triple J, Double J, Triple J Unearthed, Scenestr, MILKY, The Music, Aus Music Scene, MTV, The AU Review, among many others, and inevitably many more to come.

The powerful new single ‘Wash Over Me’ from the dynamic Sam Marks takes flight on Nov 11. Then, catch Sam Marks performing at Sunset Festival on December 3 with headliners including Allday, The Grograns and more.

SHERIE – Alé Pushing us to see love through all its forms…

by the partae November 10, 2022
written by the partae

After finishing up her tour opening for Alicia Keys and D Smoke in Europe, SHERIE is coming in hot  with ‘Alé’ the first single off her upcoming EP.

‘Alé’ is a Haitian call to love. In Haitian Creole it directly translates to “Let’s Go”, thus pushing us all deeper into a journey through love in all its facets.

“In my own experience, I found choosing love is worth the risk.” – SHERIE

The songs transports us to a tropical Haitian paradise, grooving bass lines and SHERIE’s sultry R&B Soul influenced voice complemented by a rhythmic underbeat, it’s impossible not to sit back and groove to it; drink in hand, sunglasses on.

Sherie is an esteemed Haitian American, Los Angeles based artist, songwriter, and master violinist offering an eclectic twist to her creative process. Her lyrics have seen the heights of a Billboard #1 chart topper with Ariana Grande’s “Positions’‘ which stood as a career defining moment. Sherie’s ability to transform words into beautifully curated melodies ranges through several genres including but not limited to R&B, pop, soul, urban, classic and alternative sounds. The Atlanta raised multi-hyphenate ability to hear those striking melodies derives from her mastery of the violin and angelic soprano tone, giving her an edge in creating seamless melodies and poignant lyrics that invoke sensations time after time. Her latest single “Need Ya” performed with EDM artist Holow, reached over 300k streams worldwide and is still rising in the international market.

Premiere: Purj – A Civil Conversation

by the partae November 10, 2022
written by the partae

PLAY/LISTEN

Where are you currently based?

It’s pretty crazy to say this, but Beverly Hills baby, that covid deal came in clutch.

What’s the LA music scene like at the moment?
Honestly, I think it’s overwhelmingly basic, but there are some sweet little pockets that promote the more esoteric side of EDM that I’m super inspired by. Unfortunately, you really have to search for them.

You’re originally from Melbourne / Australia, what’s the difference between being in LA to Australia?
Safety, holy shit, Los Angeles is a hellscape. I was a night rat growing up, only chased by eshays a few times, y’know, normal stuff. Los Angeles is not a place you want to be walking around at night. I love this city for so many reasons, but listen to my track Exposure Therapy and you’ll understand why I’m slightly pessimistic about this city. My first week here changed my life.

How did you first start playing music?
Woah, this is a question I’ve never even thought about. I was a classically trained violinist for 7 years and realized I hated it. I started making mashups on virtualdj and wanted to learn more about the actual craft of “djing”, I went to some DJ “school” in the city and was the only kid they enrolled as an exception because it was an adult course but I learned how to scratch records, count tempo, idk just some really practical stuff, shout out DJ Bonez for that one class you did. I started Djing events because I was a loser and wanted to get invited to parties. It worked, I won, kids paid me to have fun and I learned to produce my own tracks to play out.

Inspired by the bloghaus era, I tried making electro trash and electro house, but complextro was the thing that forced me into really diving into sound design. Flash forward, I moved to New York and learned everything I could about sampling and surrounded myself with hip hop, big ups my old crew SLUMP. I eventually ended up in LA, was kidnapped and thrown in a gutter, and basically decided I wanted to try put on silly voices in my music “sing”, I was such a quiet and insecure sod prior to that, you really have no idea. AHHHH

What’s been happening recently?
Honestly, I’ve been trying to get out of my comfort zone and show more of my personality to the world as I feel like it puts so much context behind my lyrics. I’ve been filming so much content and trying to set up photoshoots and writing sessions, it’s actually been pretty non-stop but it seems to be working, like aye I’m talking to you.

You’re releasing your follow-up single on November 11th titled ‘A Civil Conversation’ off your Exposure Therapy EP which will be released in December.  What or who influenced the sound and song writing for A Civil Conversation?
To keep a long story short, the backbone of this track is a horrifying 8-hour-long date I went on. It began with her sending me the wrong address, her still arriving an hour late, and inviting all of her friends. It culminated in us sitting on a park bench with her swiping through tinder showing me the other dates she had lined up. Now imagine the other 6.5 hours all equally as bad. I then sprinkled in some other bad date references, some attitude, and a little bit of sugar. All of this materialized as my attempt at making an early P!ATD track.

What does this single mean to you?
Dating in your 20s sucks.

Please tell us a bit about what we can expect from your upcoming EP and the influences behind it:
Honestly, this EP was my first foray into understanding myself not only as a vocalist but also a songwriter. I really evaluated what inspired my younger self and tried to emulate as much of that as I could. It’s music for lil purj, angsty yet hopeful, juvenile yet mature in personal depth.

Think P!ATD x MCR x FOB x Mindless Self Indulgence x The Used x Slipknot x Marilyn Manson x Bring Me The Horizon x Bloc Party x Every artist on OWSLA (RIP) x PORTER ROBINSON x The 1975 – MATTY HEALY [plz be my friend] x Aphex Twin x Burial x Limewire x Tumblr… Really anything on the internet between 2005 – 2014.

Where and when did you record/produce/master and who did you work with?

Honestly, 90% of the EP is just me in a dark corner at the back of my room humoring the souls of the damned. However, the other 10% are some beautiful guitar features by @synovamusic and support from a really talented group of friends who give amazing feedback or help when needed.

How do you approach songwriting?
Bad things keep happening… let’s talk about it…

Who are you listening to at the moment?
YVES TUMOR I can’t even put into words how profound this artist is to me.

What do you like to do away from music?
I work as a Graphic Designer at a kickass company called Production Club. Do a little digging and you’ll know pretty quickly why this is a dream job for me. I am also training for a kickboxing tournament next year, ahhhh please send me all the good luck beans!

What’s planned for the remainder of 2022 going into 2023?
I finally get to go home! I haven’t been home in 4 years because of covid and visa complications and it’s really taken its toll on my mental health. I’m going to crumble in my mum’s arms. Oh and of course, finish the Exposure Therapy EP roll out 😉 maybe a few videos, we will just have to wait and see.

Favorite food and place to hang out?

In Los Angeles. Dialog Cafés Smash Burger. I’d never eaten pickles and the owner who’s mates with my mate saw me taking out the pickles and called me out on it. He proceeded to express how much love and care go into his pickles. Out of shame, I started to put the pickles back in my burger… let’s just say I kinda fw pickles now. Thanks Tod <3

Set Times for Loch Hart Music Festival

by the partae November 10, 2022
written by the partae

The set times have been released for Loch Hart Music Festival and they are a thing of beauty.

Loch Hart Music Festival is a two-night, three-day, BYO camping festival happening next weekend 18-20 November, on the Great Ocean Road in Princetown.

Festival Director, Jayden Bath said – “Set times are our number one consideration when booking artists.”

“We think about the mood of the festival at different points in time and consider which artist will match that, and who is going to give our attendees the best live experience. Then we book the whole lineup based on those set times as it’s all about the programming!”

This pragmatic approach is on display with the recently released Loch Hart Music Festival set times, which, like a perfectly curated playlist is something to be admired.

Night 1: The festival kicks off with glimmering upbeat pop from Velvet Bloom and Hobsons Bay Coast Guard, before rolling straight into two of the most captivating acts in Australia right now – Party Dozen and Peter Bibby. At midnight, full party mode is activated with Digital Afrika followed by Joey Lightbulb deep into the night.

Day 2: Wake up to the soothing tunes of Jarrah Ma, and dabble in a light yoga session if you will. Good Sniff will ensure you’re awake, before the likes of Empress, Squid Nebula and Galah make sure you’re on your feet. Wurst Nurse, Alien Nosejob and Harmony Bryne will light up the afternoon with a string of dynamic and enthralling sets. Before the globally renowned Gordon Koang sets the amphitheatre into a dance frenzy.

An evening Comedy Hour: You don’t even know you want it until you have it. It’s likely you’ll be puffed at this point. Best to sit down, grab a drink or meal, and cackle until your sides hurt. The Comedy Hour features a star-studded cast including Aaron Gocs, Blake Freeman, Emma Holland, Sonia Di Iorio and Tim Hewitt.

Night 2: Pop-duo WIIGZ take the reins for the festival’s sunset slot as it transitions from day to night. The night time is nothing but heavy-hitting disco and dance party anthems – Kylie Auldist, into Harvey Sutherland, into Sunshine and Disco Faith Choir. What a procession! Plus, those who stick around until 3am will get to witness the – need to see it to believe it – one man show of Roy Blues.

Day 3: Finally, Leah Senior and Watty Thompson will close the festival with what can only be described as the perfect Sunday session. Two absolute stars who will leave you feeling euphoric as the weekend comes to an end.

Loch Hart Music Festival features 25 acts, a comedy hour, BYO + bar, food trucks, yoga, outdoor cinema, and free camping with ocean views.

byGanz Extraordinaire & Astral Element have teamed up to create Saraab, a new festival concept in the heart of the Red Sea Mountains of Il Monte Galala by Tatweer Misr, taking place December 1-2nd, 2022.

Have you ever woken up and not been able to make out the end of your dream and the beginning of your memories? Had a night that felt more illusion than reality? Met someone that seemed to be from another dimension?

“Like a mirage in the distance, we believe that the way things are is not the way they have to be. That when we come together, at the right time for the right reason, anything is achievable. Sound becomes language. Strangers become friends. Time a mere illusion. Some say it’s all an illusion, we prefer to call it Saraab.”

Saraab is a one of a kind 2-day electronic festival held by the majestic mountains of the Red Sea with a killer sea view. With a venue capacity of 3000 attendees and some of the biggest names in the electronic industry playing back to back, Saraab will be held over the span of two days across two main stages and a marketplace.

With a lineup announced that includes Polo & Pan (DJ set), Maceo Plex, Âme (live), Éclair Fifi, Mano Le Tough, Bas Ibellini, Terr, Lamache, Maher Daniel, Gerd Janson, D’Julz, Salomé Le Chat, William Djoko as well as local heroes, Misty, Chiati (live), Aroussi, DNGR GNGR and Maie; the SARAAB lineup will be unforgettable.

Along with two performing stages, the marketplace will include vendors of all kinds as well as a smaller stage with up and coming artists as Saraab looks to spotlight local and rising talent.

Saraab is bringing together DJs and visual artists and establishing a market where people can share their interests and products from vintage pieces to art pieces and fashion in a one-of-a-kind market alongside mouthwatering food pop-ups.
Located in Il Monte Galala, the top-notch destination is the ideal location for the event due to its raw natural beauty and space. The venue is spacious and versatile with a killer view of the mountains and the sea and located only an hour away from Cairo.
