Hailing from Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, Shawn Pallister is continuing to carve out her own corner of “Prairie Pop” with her upcoming single “Vertigo.” Drawing from the heartfelt, dreamy storytelling of artists like Phoebe Bridgers, Maggie Rogers and Taylor Swift, Shawn pairs open-hearted songwriting with a sound that feels increasingly confident, mature and distinctly her own. “Vertigo” arrives as she moves toward the release of her second EP, Whirlpool, due in November 2026, a project she describes as the older, moodier sister to her 2024 debut EP, Whirlwind.
That evolution has been unfolding naturally across Shawn’s recent music, with Whirlpool holding onto the vulnerability and honesty that first defined her songwriting while bringing a little more edge into the picture. Her previous single “Deep End” explored the dizzying feeling of giving in to longing and taking a chance on someone, and “Vertigo” continues this new chapter as Shawn digs deeper into the emotional push and pull at the heart of her music. It’s another glimpse at an artist growing alongside her songs, finding greater clarity in her sound without losing the tenderness, uncertainty and emotional immediacy that make her writing feel so personal.
