Five-time Grammy-nominated composer and electronic music pioneer Suzanne Ciani is returning to Australia in November and December 2026 for a series of performances, talks, film screenings and Q&A events.
The Australian program includes a series of intimate collaborative performances presented in quadraphonic surround sound, as well as appearances at galleries, cultural institutions and the Meredith Music Festival.
Ciani is scheduled to perform live in quadraphonic sound at ACO On The Pier in Sydney on Sunday 29 November, Altar Bar in Hobart on Thursday 3 December, and The Edge at Fed Square in Melbourne on Sunday 6 December. Her Melbourne performance will feature Liquid Architecture and MESS.
She will also make her first appearance at the Meredith Music Festival on Friday 11 December. The Meredith performance is listed as sold out.
Alongside the performances, Ciani will take part in a series of talks, film screenings, Q&A sessions and a workshop. The program begins on Saturday 28 November at the Art Gallery of NSW in Sydney with a screening of Sisters with Transistors. Further events are scheduled at Powerhouse Parramatta on Tuesday 1 December and MESS in Melbourne on Tuesday 8 December.
Ciani’s career spans more than five decades. She has released more than 20 solo albums, including Seven Waves and The Velocity of Love, as well as the landmark quadraphonic album LIVE Quadraphonic.
Her work has also extended beyond recorded music and live performance. Ciani created the pop and pour sound used in Coca-Cola advertising and provided the voice and sounds for Bally’s Xenon pinball machine. Her career has included work across commercials, film and other forms of sound design.
Classically trained before moving towards electronic music, Ciani became closely associated with analogue modular synthesis and the Buchla synthesizer. She has described her instruments as musical collaborators and played an original Buchla for decades.
Her life and work were documented in the film A Life in Waves, which debuted at SXSW in 2017.
The 2026 Australian visit follows a year that has included further international performances and appearances. Ciani is also scheduled to perform at venues and festivals across Europe and the United States later in 2026.
In Australia, the 2026 program will offer audiences multiple opportunities to experience Ciani’s work through live electronic performance, quadraphonic sound, conversation and film.Presented in partnership with Corner Soul.
