JVLY is digging back into the early life of one of his songs.
The Australian artist and producer has released ‘STILL DROWNING IN MY ROOM’, a new take on a track that originally appeared on his SUNDER project. The release is part of the upcoming SUNDERLUXE EP, which explores another side of the material.
Where the SUNDER version settled into a slow-burning mix of R&B, soul and electronic textures, ‘STILL DROWNING IN MY ROOM’ brings back the energy of the song’s earlier form, built around shimmering synths, punchy guitars and a funky groove.
JVLY says the track actually began with Juno chords and guitars with an almost Daft Punk-like feel. He later stripped the song back into a half-time R&B and soul groove, finding the pocket for the vocal that became the original version.
“I never forgot the energy of that original demo,” JVLY says. That energy now gets its own release, giving ‘STILL DROWNING IN MY ROOM’ a place within what JVLY describes as the “parallel universe” of SUNDERLUXE.
