Introducing Coco Elise: New single ‘Rest My Tyres’ out today

Today, Coco Elise, the solo project of Boorloo/ Perth songwriter and producer Josh Ellis, releases his new single, ‘Rest My Tyres‘. LISTEN HERE.

On ‘Rest My Tyres,’ Coco Elise embraces an indie folk manner with a charming sense of comfort and willingness to play; disoriented, warping guitars and bright pokes of percussion warble around until they find their footing where the verse meets the chorus. Ellis shares, “One of the darker songs I’ve written. It sits right in a familiar fear: ending up alone in an apartment, no partner, feeling like life has sort of passed you by.” The lyrics may speak to spiralling in an empty apartment, but the sonic world of the track picks you up like a toy in a claw machine and sets you down on a coastal boardwalk.

‘Rest My Tyres‘ follows ‘Porcelain Tiles‘ and ‘Avoid Your Stare‘ as the third in a run of releases charting Ellis’s recently burgeoning discography — a bottled-up representation of the cherished originality of the project’s sound, born from the last 6-8 months of Ellis’s creative world.

Listeners get a full spectrum of his artistry across the three tracks: the upbeat, organically produced ‘Porcelain Tiles‘; the wistful indie-folk twang of ‘Avoid Your Stare‘; and the more experimental atmosphere of ‘Rest My Tyres.’ Together, the songs showcase his far-reaching range as a songwriter and producer — distinct in mood, yet caught in the same net of life. Cushioned by soft-rock warmth and a propulsive pop-folk sensibility, they form the softest, kindest soundtrack imaginable for bartering with time and consequence.

“They all fit together in some way,” he says, “and they were all made in the same period of time.“

With European shows in Paris and London this August, and a September homecoming slot at Wave Rock Festival, WA, Coco Elise is eager to share the fruits of his heartbreak in a live show thats rumoured to be magnetic and set to be remembered.

In the project’s short time, Coco Elise has made fans across press and industry alike, from triple j, Beat magazine, Rolling Stone Australia, VICE Australia, EARMILK, and Line Of Best. He’s also earned recognition from Triple J Unearthed as a feature artist, and has secured consistent editorial playlisting across Spotify AU/NZ and Apple Music. His song ‘Colour The Stencil‘ won the Western Australian Music Awards’ overall grand prize for ‘Song of the Year’. Following a national tour in 2025, Coco Elise has shared stages with artists including Maribou State (UK), Donny Benet, Sycco, Playlunch, Sex on Toast, and Jazz Emu (UK) — building a reputation for unique live performances and carving out a home for the endearing, playful charm that makes the project impossible to ignore.
