The indie labels are descending on Adelaide on Wednesday 31 July and to celebrate Our Golden Friend, Dinosaur City and Blossom Rot are joining forces to present a free showcase as part of night one of AIR (Australian Independent Record Labels Association) Indie-Con which is held annually in Adelaide. The showcase will take place on Wednesday 30 July at Cry Baby in Adelaide.
The night will begin with Newcastle artist e4444e, sharing music from his fourth full-length record, and fbi.radio album of the week, Authentic Natural Tradition. Grounding abstract tales through breathy vocals, delicate guitars and invocations of the natural world e4444e gives space for reflections to float to the surface, clear-eyed and bracing.
Adelaide local Ella Ion will bring her eloquent lyricism and masterful musical control to deliver a cacophony of raw emotion, anchored by grit and heart. This will be her last show in the country before heading to the UK and Europe for a number of shows including a performance at Green Man Festival in Wales.
Wielding a sound described as “post-punk pulse accelerant” Coldwavehave spent the year asserting themselves as the ones to watch. They’ve supported the likes of Soft Play (UK), Slowly Slowly and Pond, showcased at SXSW in Texas and toured the UK with their frantic yet tightly controlled blend of jagged guitars, booming horns and uncompromising vocal delivery.
Sweetie will wrap up the night with a set laced with post-punk unease, gothic country melancholy, and snarling rock sensibilities. Since surfacing in 2021, the band has evolved into one of Sydney’s most compelling live acts, trading sheen for something sweatier, thornier, more urgent, channeling the raw nerve of what it feels like to inhabit a body politicised by default.
The party will take place on the first night of Australia’s leading independent music conference, Indie-Con Australia which is running from 30th July to 1st August in Adelaide. The 2025 Indie-Con program will welcome a host of international and domestic speakers and will discuss challenges and opportunities faced by Australian independent labels and the music industry at large.
The gig is free entry and open to the public but AIR Indie Con conference pass holders will be given priority entry. Conference passes can be purchased here.
