FVTURE Bangkok brings Klangkuenstler’s OUTWORLD to Southeast Asia – Saturday, 23rd January 2027

by the partae October 20, 2026
written by the partae

FVTURE brings Klangkuenstler’s OUTWORLD to Southeast Asia for the first time, continuing its mission to connect global electronic music with Asia through internationally influential artists, touring concepts and world-class large-scale live experiences where music, sound, lighting, visuals and production come together as one complete show.

FVTURE will host Klangkuenstler’s OUTWORLD on Saturday, 23rd January 2027, marking the touring concept’s Southeast Asia debut with a six-hour all-night set. Built around the intersection of electronic music, architecture, light and sound, OUTWORLD has grown into one of the most talked-about touring formats in techno.

“Klangkuenstler is a brilliant DJ, and what I really like about him is that he has his own point of view not only on the music, but on the whole design of the experience – the visuals, the atmosphere and how the show should feel. That is exactly what we value at FVTURE. OUTWORLD represents the kind of globally recognised, large-scale experience we want to bring to Asia: not just a great artist, but a complete world built through music, sound, lighting, visuals and production. Our ambition is for FVTURE to be the platform in Asia where the world’s most influential artists, touring concepts and event brands come to create something at the highest level.” — Victor Wang, founder of FVTURE

From the beginning, FVTURE has been built around international programming and world-class event production. In late 2025 and early 2026, the venue welcomed ARTBAT, CamelPhat, Kölsch, Marten Hørger, Plastik Funk, Danny Avila, Goodboys, SLVR, AXL STACE, Sam Collins, Prophecy, Arcando, ARHEUM and more. OUTWORLD is the next step in that journey – and part of a wider pipeline of globally recognised artists, touring concepts and large-scale event brands that FVTURE intends to bring to Bangkok and Asia, with each show designed as a complete experience across music, sound, lighting, visuals and production.

FVTURE sees itself as a major platform for global electronic music culture in Asia: a place where world-class performances, artists and internationally recognised event concepts come to Bangkok and reach audiences across the region. At the same time, FVTURE welcomes international audiences to Bangkok to experience Asia through music, nightlife and culture. The ambition is bigger than connecting two markets – it is about creating a home in Asia for global electronic culture, with FVTURE as the stage and Bangkok at the centre.

At the heart of Outworld is an innovative lighting design built around a striking portal aesthetic. Massive LED and truss structures, strobe effects, a white only light color scheme, and precisely aligned beams create the impression of stepping through a dimensional gateway into a sci-fi world. Each event transforms the venue into a cinematic environment where music and architecture interact, creating a short break from reality.

The Upstream Trilogy: Jack Quigley’s Global Counter-Manifesto for Music in an Era of AI

by the partae October 20, 2026
written by the partae

In an era when music is routinely flattened into background noise for algorithms and artists are squeezed by streaming economics, Naarm/Melbourne composer and producer Jack Quigley has chosen a radically different path. His ambitious new release, Upstream, Vol. 1, marks the first chapter of the Upstream Trilogy: a sprawling, multi-continental project six years in the making that proves human collaboration remains irreplaceable.

Between 2020 and 2023, Quigley travelled across four continents, recording in twelve studios from Australia’s central Tanami Desert to Cairo, Barcelona, Palermo, Beirut, Djibouti, and Addis Ababa. The resulting 27-track project unites 55 musicians performing across eight languages. Yet the sheer geographic and linguistic scope is only half the story; the true core of the work lies in its underlying philosophy, which Quigley terms “Anarcho-Pop.”

Drawing from the ancient Greek anarkhia—meaning “without a ruler,” signifying voluntary order rather than chaos Anarcho-Pop fuses the direct immediacy of popular music with egalitarian creation. Rooted in the “River Story” parable, which insists we must go upstream to ask why people are falling into the river rather than merely pulling them out, the trilogy acts as a direct counter-response to an industry plagued by underfunding, exploitation, and AI extraction. In a deliberate and defiant stance, Quigley has withheld the music from Spotify, asserting that genuine human artistry is worth staking everything on.

“Anarcho-Pop: Pop music fused with deep collaboration for a world on fire.”

The genesis of this global undertaking began in 2020 on Warlpiri and Gurindji Country at the Warnayaka Art Centre in Lajamanu. There, Quigley recorded with East Kimberley Jaru man Johnny Tchooga and the Wampana Band, producing “Mardoowarra Ngaringa” (“Riverside Woman”). That foundational session set the trajectory for an expansive roster of Australian and First Nations talent including Kaine Mauri and Skinny Lips, intertwined with a formidable array of international voices.

The project’s collaborative web spans continents and cultural traditions. Among its key figures are Somali-Australian performer Qare The Mask, Egyptian vocalist Toqa El Hagrassy, and Spanish artists Carmen Lancho and Barry Brandon (Queer Indigo). On the focus track “Addis Ababa (The New Flower),” Quigley teamed up with leading Ethiopian music figures Kamuzu Kassa and Nina Girma at Shakura Studio in Addis Ababa, transforming Girma’s lyrics into an evocative auditory journey.

Perhaps the most haunting moment on the record is “Wedding in the Sky” (عرسك بالسما أحلى). Composed while Quigley lived in Furn El Chebbak, Beirut, alongside Egyptian vocalist Noha Fekry, Cairo musician Mohamed Hasim, rapper Elf Tranzporter, and filmmaker Naji Aly, the piece serves as a dedicated memorial to the martyrs of the 2020 Beirut port explosion. It specifically honors Sahar Fares, a 27-year-old paramedic killed in the disaster months before her wedding, transforming tragedy into a powerful work of remembrance.

Upstream, Vol. 1 stands as an uncompromising statement of what remains possible when artists connect across boundaries without hierarchy. Released on October 16th, the album is available across major digital platforms (excluding Spotify), alongside a limited run of 100 vinyl LPs.

RETRO-PSYCH ROCKERS, LARGE MIRAGE DROP MESMERISING NEW SINGLE ‘WATCHING’ + ‘WATCHING SINGLE TOUR 2026’

by the partae October 20, 2026
written by the partae
STREAM: WATCHING

LARGE MIRAGE have once again cemented their place as one of the most compelling acts on the Australian circuit, returning today with mesmerising new single Watching. The second single from their forthcoming EP Wildfire, WATCHING captures the band’s distinctive take on heavy psych rock, bringing uncompromised power, songwriting and musicianship into the arena of contemporary rock.

Charged by a timeless-sounding riff, elaborate vocal harmonies, and a unique anti-chorus, Watching delivers an inspired psychedelic
guitar solo that revives the authenticity and melodic flair of classic rock and will make guitar players want to pick up their guitars and practise!

Beneath its lush, smouldering soundscape, the track explores society’s increasingly complicated relationship with technology, convenience and the endless cycle of watching and being watched.

WATCHING’s predictive ‘anti-chorus’ reminds us all that: ‘It’s a damn sure sign they’ll be watching brother, so now ain’t the time to mess it up.’ A fitting warning heralded in these times of increasing global surveillance and the dawning of AI across untrained populations.

“WATCHING is what we used to do when we had time on our wrists. Devices replace real time-keepers and are selling and telling us how to become our future selves, watching us and tracking virtual approval from virtual friends, propelling us, towards virtual futures, and the underlying fear of losing it all in one wrong virtual move” Kolya Chan explains.

The band’s commitment to a timeless sound is central to WATCHING.  Recorded live, without click tracks or samples, the single captures LARGE MIRAGE’s refreshingly old-school approach to making music.  Acclaimed Melbourne producer Michael Badger (King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Amyl & The Sniffers, Full Flower Moon Band) lends his expertise to the recording, facilitating the band to preserve their analogue roots while bringing their expansive sound to life.

Following various festival appearances as a ‘discovery band’, plus major support slots for AC/DC at Accor Stadium and TISM at PICA,
and alongside headline shows in Sydney and Melbourne, LARGE MIRAGE continue to build a formidable reputation.

LARGE MIRAGE head out on the WATCHING TOUR set to start aboard SOLD OUT ‘ROCK THE BOAT CRUISE 2026’ featuring  iconic KINGS OF CHAOS with members of ZZ Top, Bon Jovi, Cheap Trick, Guns n’ Roses, The Cult and Megadeth and after return to an appearance on CRAFTED FESTIVAL in Newcastle before proceeding with a multi-date Australian headline tour.

New dates are already rumoured to be in the pipeline for the other side of Xmas and extending into 2027 and eventually leading LARGE MIRAGE onto the stage of the 21st edition of BONFEST in Scotland – an annual celebration honouring the legendary Bon Scott, in his hometown of Kirriemuir.

Watching is out now.

CHASE & STATUS ANNOUNCE 2027 AUSTRALIA & NEW ZEALAND RETURN

by the partae October 20, 2026
written by the partae

Chase & Status are returning to Australia and Aotearoa/New Zealand in March 2027, their first live performances in Australia in ten years. Presented by Handsome Tours & TEG Live, the British duo, Saul Milton (Chase) and Will Kennard (Status), will tour their seventh studio album, Generic Everything, for the largest headline shows they have played in the region.

The tour begins in Ōtepoti/Dunedin at Forsyth Barr Stadium and Kirikiriroa/Hamilton at Claudelands Oval, before crossing the ditch to Eora/Sydney’s Carriageworks and Meanjin/Brisbane’s On The Banks. It closes at Naarm/Melbourne’s Palace Foreshore. SIGN UP FOR PRE-SALE ACCESS HERE.

For more than two decades, Chase & Status have shaped the sound and culture of UK dance music, drawing drum and bass, jungle, rave, soundsystem culture and UK rap into one sound and carrying it to audiences worldwide. Their reach is considerable: more than 2.5 billion global streams, a BRIT Award for British Producer of the Year, and a first UK Number One with ‘BACKBONE‘ featuring Stormzy. ‘Baddadan‘ became a defining crossover anthem, spending more than 15 weeks in the UK Top 10 and going Platinum.

The duo arrive on the back of a formidable stretch on stage. They have taken over Milton Keynes National Bowl, headlined the Formula 1 British Grand Prix at Silverstone and Reading & Leeds’ Main Stage, and surprised Boomtown with a B2B set alongside Skrillex. Alongside these large-scale shows, they continue to push club culture forward through SECTION 63, a live concept that strips back the conventions of the DJ show to recapture the immediacy of underground rave.

Generic Everything, released October 9, 2026, is built around a refusal to conform in an increasingly homogenised creative landscape. Moving between rave, rap, soundsystem and electronic music, the ten-track record assembles an extraordinary cast of collaborators: J Hus, Skrillex, Giggs, D Double E, Blanco, IRAH, Col3trane, Debbie, Finesse Kid and Ledbyher. ‘Carnage’ featuring Little Simz, and ‘Tension’ featuring Saam Sultan, set sharp verses against the duo’s signature drum and bass, leaving no doubt about the message. It extends an instinct that has long defined Chase & Status: bringing unexpected artists together while remaining unmistakably their own.

The NZ dates are supported by the New Zealand Government’s one-off Events Attraction Package. Tourism and Hospitality Minister Louise Upston says, “It’s fantastic to welcome global drum and bass heavyweights Chase & Status to New Zealand, with performances in both Dunedin and Hamilton. The Government’s Events Attraction Package is helping our regions benefit from showstopper events that attract visitors, support local businesses and showcase New Zealand as a world-class destination for live entertainment.” The initiative is designed to support New Zealand’s growing presence as a touring destination for international artists.

Ben Slatter, director of the H3 Group, says, “Concerts like this reinforce Hamilton’s growing reputation as a destination for major live entertainment. They bring visitors into our city, support local businesses, and contribute to the vibrancy of Hamilton and the wider Waikato.”

Dunedin Venues Chief Executive Phil King says: “When I said I believed a golden age of events was coming to Forsyth Barr Stadium, this is exactly what I meant. Chase & Status are one of the most powerful live acts on the planet, and they’re bringing that show to a fully roofed stadium built for a night like this.”

Last year, Chase & Status sold out an entire arena tour across the UK. At London’s O2 Arena, the pair became the fastest-selling electronic act the venue has hosted. More than twenty years into their career, they remain driven by evolution rather than nostalgia, connecting scenes, championing new voices and pushing British electronic music forward on a global stage.

Across seven performances, audiences will experience the album in its entirety as one cohesive body of work, marking another landmark moment in RAYE’s extraordinary musical journey.

Last week, RAYE announced a performance of THIS SYMPHONY MAY CONTAIN HOPE. at London’s Royal Albert Hall on Friday 23 October. The show sold out immediately after tickets went on sale, setting the stage for this exciting new international chapter. This special performance will also be recorded for a live album, to be released at a later date across streaming platforms and on vinyl.

THIS SYMPHONY MAY CONTAIN HOPE. Live From Seven World Wonders marks RAYE’s second symphony reimagining, following the huge success of her My 21st Century Symphony shows at the Royal Albert Hall in 2023 and The O2 London in 2024. Her original one-night-only performance at the Royal Albert Hall, backed by the 50-piece Heritage Orchestra and Flames Collective, was filmed for the music film Live At The Royal Albert Hall. The following year, RAYE brought My 21st Century Symphony to The O2 for a sold-out headline show, once again joined by the Heritage Orchestra and Flames Collective. Released on vinyl and broadcast on BBC and PBS, the Royal Albert Hall film was subsequently nominated for Best Music Film at the 68th Grammy Awards.

To celebrate the announcement of the seven shows, RAYE has released a special orchestral mix of ‘Click Clack Symphony.‘ featuring Hans Zimmer, available now across streaming platforms and on 12-inch vinyl. LISTEN HERE + PURCHASE VINYL HERE.

Last week RAYE also unveiled a stunning new orchestral rendition of album track ‘I Will Overcome.‘, recorded at London’s legendary Abbey Road Studios with the London Symphony Orchestra. This special recording offers a glimpse into the expansive symphonic sound that will be performed at the Royal Albert Hall. WATCH HERE.

RAYE recently performed at the 2026 MTV VMAs, receiving widespread acclaim for her standout performances of ‘I Will Overcome.’ and ‘WHERE IS MY HUSBAND!‘.

In September, RAYE released the official video for ‘Joy.‘, her latest euphoric single featuring her sisters and fellow artists Amma and Absolutely. For the video, the three sisters took to the streets of London in a van they named the “Joymobile”, surprising passersby with sunflowers and capturing their reactions as they brought a little unexpected happiness to the capital. At the end of August, RAYE brought her sisters on stage to perform ‘Joy.‘ during her headline set at Reading Festival. The track has since been added to playlists across BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 2 and Capital Radio.

RAYE’s global smash hit ‘WHERE IS MY HUSBAND!‘ has surpassed 1 billion streams on Spotify, marking another major milestone for the single. Still charting around the world close to a year after release, ‘WHERE IS MY HUSBAND!‘ reached No.1 in the UK and has spent 30 weeks on the US Billboard Hot 100 to date. The track also marks RAYE’s second Top 10 on Billboard’s Pop Airplay chart. The single is certified Diamond in Brazil, France and Belgium; 5 x Platinum in Ireland; 4 x Platinum in Australia; 3 x Platinum in Canada; 2 x Platinum in the UK, Austria, New Zealand, Norway and Switzerland; and Platinum in the US, Denmark, Finland, Greece, the Netherlands, Sweden and Spain; with additional Gold certifications In Germany and Italy.

Released in March 2026, RAYE’s second album THIS MUSIC MAY CONTAIN HOPE. reached No.1 in the UK, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Belgium, and Top 5 in Austria, Norway, Ireland, Germany, New Zealand, Denmark, Portugal and Croatia. The 17-track album unfolds across four “seasons”, moving from darkness to light and blending pop, R&B, jazz, big band, soul and orchestral influences. Across the record, hope emerges not as naïve idealism, but as something hard-earned and ultimately transformative. The album has been named one of the Mercury Music Prize Albums of the Year, with the ceremony taking place this October. RAYE was nominated at this year’s MTV VMAs for both Song Of The Year for ‘WHERE IS MY HUSBAND!‘ and Best Visual Effects for ‘Click Clack Symphony‘.

RAYE has spent much of 2026 performing across the UK, Europe and the USA on her 51-date THIS TOUR MAY CONTAIN NEW MUSIC run, including six sold-out nights at London’s The O2, as well as performances at Radio City Music Hall and the Greek Theatre. She is currently joining Bruno Mars as a special guest on 23 stadium dates across North America as part of The Romantic Tour. ‘Joy.‘ is a big favourite every night!

Since 2014, RAYE has charted 20 Top 40 UK singles and surpassed 10 billion cumulative streams. In 2024, the South London artist made history by winning six BRIT Awards, including Album of the Year — the most BRIT Awards won by an artist in a single year — alongside a total of seven nominations. Her other accolades include an Ivor Novello Award for Songwriter of the Year, Best UK & IE Artist at the MTV EMAs, and the Ivors Academy’s Songwriter Advocate Award. She has also been honoured with Variety’s Triple Threat Award and received nominations from the BET Awards and MTV VMAs.

In 2026, RAYE was honoured by the Recording Academy with the Harry Belafonte Best Song For Social Change CEO Merit Award for ‘Ice Cream Man’, her raw and honest song amplifying the voices of sexual assault survivors. THE EAST POINTERS ANNOUNCE 2027 AUSTRALIAN TOUR DELUXE VERSION OF SCHOONERTOWN OUT DECEMBER 11

Celebrating the release of the deluxe edition of their latest studio album Schoonertown, as well as continuing to deepen their ongoing relationship with Australian fans, Canadian folk outfit The East Pointers have announced their return this summer.

The last time Australians were able to see The East Pointers touring our venues was in 2025, a warm and welcome return for the group who has long maintained a special connection with the music community Down Under. Their upcoming January run of shows will see The East Pointers perform in intimate rooms around the East Coast as well as at this year’s Woodford Folk Festival – providing audiences with multiple opportunities to reconnect and rediscover the chemistry that has brought the group so much enduring success.

The release of Schoonertown in 2025 proved another bright step forward for the JUNO Award winning act, as they continued their journey of evolution as an innovative and contemporary modern folk group. The record itself spoke to the band’s effortless blend of folk, alt and pop strands, while amplifying their strong songwriting dynamics and sense of lyricism. Capturing vignettes of youth: nights out, first love, growing up and the heady emotions young adults experience, Schoonertown proved an album that matched heartache with elation in equal measure.

Releasing the deluxe edition of the album on December 11, The East Pointers are excited to share new music as part of it, as well as an acoustic version of album track ‘Maritime Moonshine’.

PRAISE

“They are remarkable for writing songs that rework their Scottish and Irish influences, and they specialise in instrumentals that sound like tuneful Celtic standards, with banjo and fiddle both taking the lead.”

THE GUARDIAN

“It’s refreshing to see an album smash genre boundaries so seamlessly.”

THE AUSTRALIAN

“Smashing genre boundaries.”

DOUBLE J

“Pushing the limits of traditional folk sounds.”

TRIPLE J

Tickets for The East Pointers 2027 Australian tour are on sale via theeastpointers.com on Thursday October 22.

Bastian Bux returns to Petit Comité of House with the Silver Birds EP

by the partae October 16, 2026
written by the partae

Bastian Bux is back on his own label. The Silver Birds EP is the ninth release on Petit Comité of House and arrives 9 October, with four tracks that cover most of what the label does.

“Taylor Made” opens it, and it’s the most direct of the four: a diva vocal on top of a bouncy house groove, made to get a room moving. “Central Sun” is the opposite. Acoustic bass, a soulful vocal and a sax riff give it a warmer, more reflective feel, and it’s probably the track people will remember longest.

The title track is where the EP picks up. “Silver Birds” pairs a hypnotic vocal with a steady, driving rhythm, and a brass solo cuts through the middle. It’s the one built for peak time. Baum closes things out with the “1998 Dub,” a deeper version of the original that takes its cue from the late-’90s B-sides DJs still dig for.

Bux, who was born in Barcelona, has spent over a decade on a groove-led style of house, and he says the point has always been to make people feel good. That’s the thinking behind Petit Comité, which started as an event series and became a label and a community built around the original spirit of house. It has grown worldwide since then. Releases on the label regularly chart on Beatport, and it’s had backing from respected names in the scene. Only U reached #1 several times and stayed among the store’s best sellers for almost a year.

Silver Birds is out now on Petit Comité of House.

Tracklist:

  1. Bastian Bux – Taylor Made
  2. Bastian Bux – Central Sun
  3. Bastian Bux – Silver Birds
  4. Bastian Bux – Silver Birds (Baum 1998 Dub)

THE MARION CRANES Premiere “ON YOUR SIDE”

by the partae October 16, 2026
written by the partae

Some friendships never go out of style.

Melbourne pop duo The Marion Cranes return with “On Your Side”, a new single and music video celebrating long-term friendship, growing older and the people who somehow make you feel like nothing has changed.

At its heart, “On Your Side” is a love song – just not necessarily the kind you’d expect.

It’s about the kind of love that lives inside a friendship that has survived different versions of yourselves, relationships, changing fashions and the various curveballs life throws your way. You get older, life moves on, but with the right person, you can still pick up exactly where you left off.

“‘On Your Side’ was definitely one of the slow ones. We kept coming back to it and changing tiny things until it felt right. Sometimes we’ll write a song in a day, and sometimes apparently we need years.”

The result is a song and video that feel nostalgic without belonging to any particular era – much like the friendship between bandmates Glen Prins and Dane Yule.

“We’ve both changed, life has changed, but somehow when we’re together it still feels the same.”

The accompanying video brings that sentiment to life through a striking visual world, with direction by Fagyn Gwyther-McCuskey and on-set creatives Audrey Pfeiffer and Dale Garsed.

The Marion Cranes began making music together as housemates in Melbourne in 2017, releasing their debut single “Sexy Motivation” before going on to earn triple j airplay, release an EP, tour and play festivals.

Nearly a decade on, Glen and Dane are doing things a little differently. Rather than chasing the live circuit or following the usual expectations of being in a band, they’re more interested in making music and videos together when they genuinely have something to say.

That doesn’t mean they’ll never find themselves back on a stage. For now, they’re happy making pop music on their own terms, with their friendship at the centre of it all.

Because some things are worth holding onto.

The boys are forever.

ABOUT THE MARION CRANES

The Marion Cranes are Melbourne best friends Glen Prins and Dane Yule, who began making music together as housemates in 2017.

Since then, they’ve released an EP and music videos, received triple j airplay, toured and played festivals — all while navigating the usual business of growing up.

Nearly a decade later, they’re less interested in what a band is supposed to do and more interested in making pop music together whenever the mood strikes.

Two girlfriends. Still making music.

Portugal The Man At Metro Theatre – 14/10/26- Photo and Review

by the partae October 15, 2026
written by the partae

Blending experimental new music with the anthems that propelled them into the mainstream, Portugal The Man returned to Sydney with a two-part set that reflected a band continuing to evolve beyond its biggest hits.

Portugal The Man have never been a band content to stay in one lane. Moving between psychedelic rock, experimental arrangements and infectious indie-pop, the American group has built a career on constantly reshaping its sound. At Sydney’s Metro Theatre, that evolution took centre stage, with a performance that balanced the unfamiliar territory of their latest album, SHISH, against the crowd-pleasing tracks that first introduced them to a wider audience.

Their return to Sydney also carried a sense of perspective. When the band last toured the city, they were riding the success of Woodstock, the album that delivered their breakout hit, “Feel It Still”. Years later, with a much broader catalogue to draw from, Portugal The Man arrived with more than nostalgia on the agenda. The two-part set offered an opportunity to revisit the music that made them festival favourites while introducing a newer, more experimental chapter of their career.

The opening set, dedicated to SHISH, established an experimental tone. Rather than immediately reaching for their biggest hits, the band explored tracks such as “Denali” and “Knik”, giving their newer material room to breathe. It was an ambitious approach that highlighted their willingness to push beyond familiar territory, setting the scene for a contrasting second half.

That shift arrived with “Feel It Still”, whose infectious groove brought the band’s mainstream appeal back into focus. “Modern Jesus” followed with a sharper alternative-rock edge, while “Purple Yellow Red and Blue” revisited the psychedelic foundations that helped define their earlier work. Together, these songs demonstrated Portugal. The Man’s ability to balance unconventional arrangements with melodies that remain instantly accessible.

Frontman John Gourley remains central to that identity, with his vocals anchoring a sound that moves between contrasting styles. The band’s collective musicianship helps connect these shifts, creating a performance that draws on both experimental rock and polished pop sensibilities. The lighting and visual atmosphere further offered an opportunity to complement the music’s psychedelic character, reinforcing the contrast between the exploratory opening set and the more familiar anthems that followed.

The setlist also embraced the band’s genre-crossing collaborations. “Phoenix”, their track with Marshmello, highlighted their willingness to venture beyond conventional indie rock, while “Glide”, their collaboration with NEIKED, added another pop-oriented dimension to the performance. These selections reflected a group comfortable moving between styles without losing its distinctive identity.

Ultimately, the contrast between the two sets defined the evening. The SHISH material showcased a band still willing to experiment, while the second half demonstrated why its established anthems continue to resonate. Compared with their previous Sydney visit, the performance reflected a group that has moved beyond the expectations created by its mainstream success without abandoning the melodies that made it popular.

At Metro Theatre, Portugal The Man offered a reminder that longevity in alternative music is not about repeating a winning formula. It is about allowing a sound to evolve while retaining its essential character and that is where Portugal The Man remain at their most compelling not in recreating the moment that made them famous, but in continuing to discover what their music can become.

Across six weeks in November and December, Sydney’s Seymour Centre Courtyard will be turned into the best of playgrounds for some of the city’s best names in nu-jazz, neo-soul and R&B to demonstrate exactly how strong and beautiful this brand of artistry is.

As an evolution of the venue’s former, and beloved, Seymour Nights program, SEYMOUR SOUNDS makes its debut with a free program that spotlights compelling and innovative sounds, delivered by performers whose music talent is only matched by their charisma and unique style.

Featuring the talents of artists including SETWUN, ELLA HABER, ANIESZKA, YASMINA SADIKI, RIAH, FLUX STATE and more, the live music series is set to become a surefire staple of Sydney’s Spring/Summer calendar.

Find new sounds, hang out with local artists, fans, friends, situational peeps, or just come as you are, and enjoy the music, as we build an exciting new space in our city. All whilst celebrating the simple joy of music. In my first year, I’m thrilled to be placing music at the heart of Seymour. Through Seymour Sounds, under the curation of John Troughton, we’re creating space for artists and audiences to explore and to gather and to fall in love with Seymour’s Sydney sounds” Joanne Kee, Artistic Director

The energy of this unique music series is inviting and accessible, styled as an “outdoor living room” to maximise on intimate vibes, bringing the artist close with their audience each night. With Sydney’s Seymour Centre having a long-standing reputation as a haven for live performance and new work, as the University of Sydney’s multi-venue performing arts space, the evolution of a live music series in its Courtyard plays perfectly into the wider ethos of the area: community-first and community-driven.

SEYMOUR SOUNDS is just the first element of a wider push to welcome more artists and audiences to the venue, building upon a strong foundation of shows this year.

The first iteration of SEYMOUR SOUNDS is swinging big, welcoming a talented blend of names and musicianship to the fold…

SETWUN has curated a following in Australia and beyond across years spent developing a deep and rich sonic tapestry. His work as a musician, producer and performer has built a catalogue of music that blends contemporary jazz, soulful beats, deep house, groove, neo-soul and hip-hop. A dynamic solo performer and leader, with his live band The Soulstranauts, SETWUN is one of Australia’s hardest working and well-respected curators of sound.

Singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist ELLA HABER has built a reputation for pairing rich alternative soul and jazz arrangements with a powerful stage presence and voice. Her albums and projects speak to a deep love of the sonic traditions of jazz, soul and R&B, while her vision very much remains on innovation and stepping into creative territory all her own.

Sydney-based Ugandan pop-soul artist AGUM has a timeless voice and a stage presence that is instantly arresting. Toeing a line between vulnerability and raw strength, her sound evokes the spirit of genre legends like Nina Simone and Erykah Badu, while her performances are effortless and immersive. Carving out a space all her own within Sydney’s neo-soul scene, AGUM strides confidently into new territory with each release and each new stage she steps onto.

FLUX STATE are a hybrid electronic/acoustic group who have developed for themselves a strong local following, thanks to their expert approach to creating experimental and forward-thinking dance music. Emerging from the Inner West’s DIY underground scene, the group harnesses a unique and chemistry-fuelled sound that brings sheer musicality together with controlled electronic chaos – capping it off with their own signature flair.

Western Sydney’s TAHKOE has been making waves with his own blend of hip-hop, soul and R&B. The musician and producer, nominated in the “Next Best Thing” category at the 2024 FBi Radio SMAC Awards, has been a popular collaborator and member of the creative community; working with the likes of Sollyy, Cherry Rype and emjaysoul, to name a few. Layering soulful vocals over beats and arrangements that speak to his versatile sonic palette and bed of influences, TAHKOE is more than just an artist to watch: he is one of Sydney’s best emerging forces.

ANIESZKA brings her rich catalogue of R&B and soul music home, with the Australian/Mauritian artist having spent much of the last year continuing to grow her realm of impact not just in Australia, but abroad. With over 10 million streams to her name, not to mention widespread support for her music on triple j, BBC Radio, Capital XTRA, Colors and more, ANIESZKA has captivated audiences with ease. Her music is made to soothe, provide solace and love to those seeking it.

Quickly establishing herself as one of Australia’s most exciting voices, RUBY JACKSON has continued to elevate in 2026. The artist, songwriter and producer matches sonic sophistication with a vibrant stage charm. Her blend of soul and R&B feels effortless, while performances as a headliner and supporting the likes of Ngaiire, Morcheeba and more have further cemented RUBY JACKSON’s status as one of Sydney’s best.

Improvised jazz group MANFREDO LAMENT have cemented their place within Sydney’s underground scene as leaders of a new generation of innovative jazz players. Led by Kurt Lam and Gabriel Haslam, the collective boasts 30+ members on a rotating lineup, with each of their shows featuring a mix of local and interstate musicians from around the country, coming together with a shared love of collaboration and community.

Rising star YASMINA SADIKI has been capturing attention within Sydney’s underground for her beautiful blend of alt-jazz and neo-soul. Her music, capturing stories of womanhood, love and philosophies, is driven by a natural curiosity and contemplative nature. Drawing from her own life, YASMINA SADIKI has emerged as a true visionary, her shows are cinematic and moving experiences that are one-of-a-kind.

Hailing from Sydney’s southwest, R&B singer-songwriter RIAH has shaped her sound from her multi-cultural heritage and deep love for ‘90s R&B. Of Tongan, Fijian, Italian and Aboriginal (Kamilaroi) descent, RIAH made waves early off the back of winning Triple J Unearthed’s Indigenous High Initiative in 2024. Since then, she has supported the likes of The Kid LAROI, Electric Fields, BARKAA and more, while continuing to release music that is engaging and soulful, in the same vein as SZA, H.E.R and Aaliyah.

Five-piece live instrumental collective HEY, LOVE blends jazz, soul and hip-hop together with warm melodies and enticing grooves. Drawing from shared creative inspiration and the dedication to unique sonic expression, HEY, LOVE has thrived on offering the room to experiment and reshape music in real time, making each live show completely unique.

JEROME BLAZÉ generates soundscapes that feel completely unique and expansive, with the artist and producer leaning into elements of electronic, trip-hop, soul and neo-classical music to bring his signature palette to life. With comparisons to Moby, Air and Rotary Connection, his music is finely-crafted and meticulously curated; offering his audiences a one of a kind experience.

HARLEY GIRL Releases ‘I Know The DJ’

by the partae October 14, 2026
written by the partae

Australian producer HARLEY GIRL returns with his latest single ‘I Know The DJ’, a playful and punchy cut built around a vocal discovery that sparked inspiration for the entire song.

The track began with a digital deep dive through HARLEY GIRL’s own hard drive, where he rediscovered a folder of vocals sent by creative collaborator Callie Reiff, roughly a year earlier. Among the unfinished ideas was a simple phrase that immediately stood out: “I know the DJ”.

From there, HARLEY GIRL dropped the vocal into a new project and began shaping the track around it, experimenting with cuts, grooves and a production style that matched the attitude of the vocal. The result is a track that doesn’t take itself too seriously, while still packing plenty of bite.

“This one started with a bit of a digital crate dig through my own hard drive. I found a folder of vocals that a new creative friend Callie Reiff had sent over about a year ago for a half baked demo I hadn’t managed to finish. I flicked through and found the the phrase “I know the DJ”. I dropped the take in and played around with cuts and grooves etc. I think the most exciting part for me was just finding the vocal – I feel as if the whole track painted itself for me before i’d started making it. It had to be silly, self-aware and a little bit tough – and I feel it landed in that sweet spot.”

‘I Know The DJ’ captures the spontaneous side of HARLEY GIRL’s production process, and sometimes all it takes is finding the right vocal to set an entire track in motion.

Introducing Chelsea Daghita – new single ‘Baby Boy’ out now

by the partae October 14, 2026
written by the partae

Hot on the heels of her showstopping performance at Yours & Owls Festival, Wollongong up-and-comer Chelsea Daghita today shares her new single ‘Baby Boy’. Stream HERE.

On ‘Baby Boy’, Daghita’s vocal is pushed into new territory, balancing its delicate natural warmth with a newfound strength as she experiments with haunting runs and 70s rock grit. Lyrically, ‘Baby Boy’ invites the listener to share in Daghita’s quiet angst, as she reflects on the mismatched potential of a would-be lover.

“The song is about somebody who I wanted to care for, but they really didn’t have it together at all,” reflects Daghita. “I thought I could be the person to help them out, but it got to a point where I just couldn’t stand seeing someone with such potential destroy themselves. He was just a Baby Boy that needed to sort his stuff out, and I’m not his mother or his saviour.”

Daghita worked with producer Blake Bashfield (Sesame Girl) on the new single, and together they were able to draw upon her broad influences – from Clairo and Julia Jacklin to Bob Seger and Fleetwood Mac – to strike a balance between her vintage spark and ambitious, future-focused songwriting.

“Recording this track was so much fun. I wanted the drums to be primal, almost instinctive, similar to the drums in Tusk by Fleetwood Mac,” she says. “I learnt and  achieved a lot during the writing and recording of this track about my own writing, and how I want to write more in the future. ”

Swiftly becoming an in-demand artist on the live circuit, Chelsea Daghita is set to close out the year with a growing list of festival appearances and support slots. Earlier this month, she performed at Yours & Owls festival alongside the likes of DMA’s, G Flip, and Ball Park Music, and next weekend is set to open for Teen Jesus & the Jean Teasers, with additional shows to be announced.

ABOUT CHELSEA DAGHITA

Raised on her  family’s 1970s record collection and drawn to artists like Clairo, Daghita pairs vintage warmth with lyrically ambitious songwriting. 23-year-old Chelsea Daghita is feeling the growing pains of anyone her age. Growing up in regional New South  Wales, Australia, she is largely unaffected by inner-city trends, which has made the  learning and mistakes of being a young adult all the more real for her; and that’s reflected in her music.

Homeschooling allowed her to indulge in music classes. That freedom is reflected in her music and her tastes. Bob Seger, Fleetwood Mac and more modern inspirations including Clairo all coalesce into recordings that she  describes in terms such as Orange Velvet or Primal, Gritty, and Dusty. She has played live extensively in  and around Wollongong, including across festivals such as Ohana and Yours and Owls. She has been on support  lineups for Spacey Jane, Lime Cordiale and Hockey Dad.
