Colourburn Interview

by the partae October 4, 2023
written by the partae

Where are you currently based?
Melbourne, Australia.

How and when did the band form?
We formed in 2021, though I (Josh) started writing in 2020. Jack joined first with Jordyn joining about a year later.

What’s been happening recently?

We’ve launched our first single which is super exciting to finally get that out into the world!
Now we’re preparing to launch more music in the coming months.

Your single ‘Star’ is out now which is off your upcoming EP out on November 24, what influenced the sound and songwriting?
Honestly it’s hard to pinpoint it haha we have so many different influences. At the time I loved the grunge vibes from bands like Narrow Head and Fleshwater but then I also was digging bands like Citizen and Teenage wrist (along with a heap of others). I didn’t really think too much about our sound and just went with what felt right.

What does this track mean to you?
It means the world! Being one of the songs I first wrote for this band, it’s awesome to finally get it out there.

What can we expect from your upcoming EP?
There’s a lot of variety, from mosh-worthy riffs to catchy lyrics, I think there’s something in it for everyone.

Where did you record/produce/master?

Chris Vernon produced, mixed and mastered.

How did you approach the recording process?

We went in with an open mind and basically let Chris throw any ideas at us we had and collaborated with that to try and make it the best we could.

Any shows coming up?
Not as of yet though we’ve been working hard in the rehearsal room perfecting our live performance.

What’s planned for the remainder of 2023?

We’ve got some more releases coming, dropping a music video for our next single, as well as something else in December which is a bit of a secret for now 😉

Favourite food and place to hangout?
Home made pizza and probably on the couch playing mario kart haha.

HIGHLINE return with heartfelt new single ‘EXIT A’

by the partae October 3, 2023
written by the partae

With their first release for 2023, Eora/Sydney’s Highline channel grief, loss and regret on the beautifully bittersweet ‘Exit A’; a perfectly crafted indie ballad that showcases the 5-piece as a rising force in the scene.

‘Exit A’ explores the loss of a friend and the inescapable sense of regret that follows. Although thematically the track is somber and reflective, sonically ‘Exit A’ feels overwhelmingly cathartic; with melancholic vocal melodies, atmospheric synth work and dreamy guitars that flood the mix at the apex of the song. ‘Exit A’ is a perfect example of how dynamics can shape a song, and although the chord progression is simple, the layered production and songwriting technique on ‘Exit A’ shows the young band are at the peak of their powers.

“Exit A is a song about losing a friend. It’s reflecting on the loss and realizing that the writing was on the wall so to speak “I should have seen this coming from miles away”. It’s frustrating losing people that once meant so much to you and this song expresses that frustration. The song captures the sadness that comes with witnessing this happen and the reflective emotions that come with recognising things aren’t how they used to be, and wondering whether you could have stopped it from happening.

This song was one of those tunes where the general premise was always there but no progress was really made for about a year then it all sort of wrote itself within a couple of hours. The title came about because the chords were E and A, so we just called the song EA, which is how we arrived at Exit A.”

SAM RIGNEY, HIGHLINE

Written during a trip to the Blue Mountains, the songwriting for ‘Exit A’ was a group effort for the band with everyone pitching in to get the song done. Once the songwriting had been completed, the band headed to Golden Retriever studios in Marrickville to work with Cal Howell, known best for his work with Ocean Alley.

“The song came about pretty organically. It started with Rhys bringing the chords in and we were pretty eager to smash out a big outro to it; Sam brought the words and the story inspired by a personal experience. We did a little songwriting trip to the Blue Mountains where we finished off most of the song. Then later we did another trip to Jamberoo and all chipped in to finish off lyrics and flesh out the outro. We have always done writing trips away and these are always some of our favourite moments together as a group.

We recorded it with Cal Howell (Ocean Alley) as the producer, at Golden Retriever Studios in Marrickville. Before we went in, Cal helped break down the song before we went in and made sure that outro builded right until the end. Loved working with Cal – really passionate and fun too. I like how this one has a slow and sweet swell. The outro has mostly an instrumental vibe, as opposed to a melody-driven solo, which is new for us.”

SAM RIGNEY, HIGHLINE

Highline have gone from strength to strength over the last couple of years, currently sitting at 1.6m+ streams on Spotify alone, 2k+ followers on Instagram and 15k+ on Tik Tok. They’ve received consistent airplay on triple j (‘Chasing Heaven’ (2021), ‘Staying Sane’ (2021) and ‘Enough for You and Me’ (2022)), editorial support from Pilerats, Life Without Andy, Tonedeaf, Music Feeds, The AU Review, LivewireAU and many more. They’ve also made big moves on the performance front, supporting the likes of Old Mervs, Rum Jungle, Dear Sunday, Pacific Avenue, and playing this years Icebreaker Festival at the Factory Theatre in Sydney alongside Tyne-James Organ, Annie Hamilton, Death by Denim, The Moving Stills and Asha Jefferies. Highline are just starting to hit their stride, and with ‘Exit A’ it seems the tail end of 2023 will be huge for the up-and-coming band.

PRAISE FOR HIGHLINE

“Backed by addictively nostalgic guitars and some clattery drums, frontman Sam Rigney marries the unbridled fire of youth with the cool rush of maturation”

LIFE WITHOUT ANDY

“It’s catchy, crafty indie-pop that brings together influences spread across indie, brit-pop and alt-rock”

PILERATS

“their music is an exciting mix of indie rock incorporating some brit-pop elements. It’s characterized by sweet guitars and emotive melodies lending itself to their own familiar yet exciting brand of rock.”

THE AU REVIEW

“one of my fave festival memories is belting out the kooks as a 19yo as the sun set at falls and this one has me thinking highline are set for a big stage sometime soon.”

DECLAN BYRNE, TRIPLE J

“It sounds like the singer wants to let rip – you can tell he’s got a rasp not dissimilar to Jimmy from The Vanns or Caleb of Spacey Jane. The trick they pull though is to keep this one grounded and controlled.”

DAVE RUBY HOWE, TRIPLE J UNEARTHED

“Catchy melodies bring together the best of indie-rock and brit-pop into a very good time, ensuring the band should be on your radar this year”

“There are hints of Olivia Rodrigo and Dua Lipa in “LA Talk”, with ASHY’s luscious vocals sliding effortlessly over a lightly funky bassline.”
ASHY – Rolling Stone Australia

“With subtle hints of pop electronica, floaty synth-laced melodies, and delicate guitar blends, Daily J has carved themselves a niche that’s proving popular, particularly on the summer festival circuit.”
Daily J – Live Nation ‘One’s To Watch’

“Jordyn With A Why has only been releasing music professionally since 2021 but in that time, she has emerged as an artist to watch; an important new storyteller joining the current wave of young Pacific Islanders putting their music on the map.”
Jordyn With A Why – ABC Pacific

“‘TONGUE’ yet again showcases Ash Wallace and Gabe Everett’s innate creative understanding, with the former’s sugary vocals flourishing over a resolutely upbeat rhythm. It’s difficult to not to get swept up in the addictive rush of such pure pop.”
FOLEY – Rolling Stone Australia

“West Auckland has been a proven breeding ground for musical talent over the years. Park Rd, the latest act to emerge out of the Titirangi hills, hadn’t released their first EP when they played a sold out gig at the central city’s The Tuning Fork. Everlyne Interview

by the partae October 2, 2023
written by the partae

Where are you currently based?

We are based out of Melbourne’s west and playing shows in an around Melbourne

How did the band form?

The band came together after Jordan and Nathan wrapped up with a band after about 3 years of playing around Melbourne. The boys were keen to keep writing and playing and reached out. We first crossed paths at a battle of the bands where I performed with a band I was with in high school. We began jamming and tried a couple of different drummers until I floated the idea with Sam, who was a friend of mine from uni, about joining and he was beyond keen.

What’s been happening recently?

We most recently played a show with our mates in Future Static before they Jetsetted over to Europe. We have also been in and out of the studio with our producer Chris Lalic (Windwaker) writing and recording.

Your latest single ‘Wreck-less’ is out now, what influenced the sound and songwriting?

So this was a track that we worked on alongside our last single ‘The Inbetween’. We had previously written some heavier, darker tunes with big riffs and cool synth elements and we wanted to explore and expand on that further. We experimented a little more with electronic tones and came up with some really fun, energetic songs that get your head bopping. Jordan and Nathan were heavily inspired by the League of Legends soundtracks and their goal was to write the next theme for League of Legends Worlds.

How did this track come about?

The same way we have written most of our tunes, but just experimenting. The writing process for this and ‘The Inbetween’ had been our first time working with Lalic and we went into the process bright eyed and ready to try something new. We picked a couple inspo songs that we liked the sounds of as well as what we had all been listening to recently. From there we started playing around with chords and synths, messing with a whole heap of different sounds and combos until we find something we like. I (Mac) spend most of my time humming along, coming up with melodies that Lalic and I will throw back and forth until we are happy with something.

From here I separate from the group and write the lyrics. For ‘Wreck-less’ I wanted to try something different than my usual style and I decided to pick a topic and use buzz words relating to it to come up with the lyric structure. A little technique I picked up in one of my songwriting classes at uni.

What does Wreck-less mean to you?

‘Wreck-less’ is all about self-actualisation and finding yourself in spite of any outside influences. It talks about wanting to be everything or try to be everything but still remaining true to yourself.

Where and when did you record/produce/master and who did you work with?

We worked with Chris Lalic on this tune, who did all of the drum production. He really got what we were trying to achieve and the different direction we were trying to take, capturing our vision. Sam worked with Chris Blancato to get the drums sounding amazing. The last piece of the puzzle was the music video and Colin Jeffs (Ten of Swords Media) made a banger of a clip for us. There were a whole heap of people behind the scenes that helped our video to come to life, so shout out to Bridget (Alt Affect) and Lauren (Makeup artist) who helped us look our hottest on camera.

How did you approach the recording process?

We hadn’t worked with Chris before and this was the first song that we ended up working on and wrapping up. We worked with different people for our previous releases and didn’t really know what to expect. Chris really had a great approach to helping build the foundations of the track and the rest of it just fell into place.

Who are you listening to at the moment?

There is so much amazing stuff around at the moment, especially in and around Melbourne. I’ve been listening to The Motion Below and The Last Martyr. We played some shows with Nth Rd last year and their latest is awesome. I’m also super keen for Bring Me The Horizon’s upcoming release later this year.

What’s planned for the remainder of 2023?

We have a show coming up with RinRin (WA) and some other amazing bands in November at Stay Gold. Hit us up on socials and let us know if you’re planning to come down and hang out. Outside of that, we are keen to get to as many gigs as possible and enjoy the summer weather!

Favourite food and place to hangout?

Nothing beats chips and gravy from the local charcoal chicken shop and my favourite place to hang out would be at home on the couch with my dog, Jack and a good book.

Julia Sound Will Release Their 3rd Single A Remix Of “Rise From The Ashes” Taken From Their Recently Released LP “Nothing Above The Blue Sky” Via Boomsmack Records

by the partae September 30, 2023
written by the partae
Julia Sound, a rising collective in Canada’s vibrant music scene, is thrilled to announce the release of their latest single, “Rise From The Ashes” in collaboration with Yo Megasonic.“Rise From The Ashes” is an anthem for those who have confronted challenges and emerged victorious. It serves as an invitation for listeners to embrace their inner strength and persevere through life’s tribulations. Julia Sound’s music is a poignant reminder that everyone possesses the power to transcend difficulties and rediscover their inner fire.
The emotive rap traverses an electronic musical landscape, delivering poignant lyrics that resonate with the universal human experience. Megasonic’s voice exudes raw authenticity, forging a deep connection with listeners. With its inspirational message and epic soundscapes, “Rise From The Ashes” has the potential to resonate with a broad audience.

Led by producer-composer Lin Gardiner, Julia Sound aims to highlight the disparity between the rich and poor in the current climate crisis. “I’d been struck over the last few years how disconnected humanity seems to have become,” says Gardiner. Not just because of Covid, but the ever-widening gap between the 1% and everyone else. In ‘Rise FromThe Ashes’, Yo Megasonic (an integral part of the collective) and I call out the 1% and their role in planetary decline. The billionaires and their pointless race to populate other planets, while the one we have needs so much attention; the fossil fuel magnates, who double down on their efforts to extract what we know is causing so much damage; the rich powerful ‘influencers’ who are instrumental in spreading misinformation and conspiracy theories, which have many becoming absorbed into nonsense arguments and culture wars.”

For 10-year Anniversary of “Tsunami,” DVBBS Returns To Their Underground Roots with New, Dark Progressive Club Hit “Breathe,” Featuring Chrome Hearts’ Jesse Jo Stark. Out Now on Spinnin’ Records/Warner

by the partae September 30, 2023
written by the partae

Artist: DVBBS
Title: Breathe (ft. Jesse Jo Stark)
Label: Spinnin’ Records/Warner Music

Download / Stream

On the 10-year anniversary of their epic rise to fame with 9 x platinum-certified 2013’s “Tsunami” DVBBS goes back to the underground with their brand new release “Breathe.” The duo teams up on it with Jesse Jo Stark of the Chrome Hearts fashion family and one of the brand’s lead designers, which sets the stage with a deep, driving beat in its opening notes. Combining Jesse‘s mesmerizing, haunting vocal riffs with eerie soundscapes and minimal percussion, DVBBS steers the ship straight into the sonic underground with a breathtakingly sinister drop that’s simply designed for dark club dance floors as well as big main stages of festivals across the globe. “Breathe” sees them returning to their roots with the same sound that catapulted them to global stage with “Tsunami” a decade ago, with has since amassed several platinum and gold certifications worldwide, peaked charts in almost 20 countries, and made DVBBS a household name. Jesse Jo Stark explores new ground with “Breathe,” which sees her departing from her usual alt-pop wheelhouse and looking after the creative side of Chrome Hearts. Stark also designed all of the aesthetic fashion in the track’s accompanying music video. Read on for more about the track from the artists themselves.

“Since we put out our first global hit – ‘Tsunami,’ 10 years ago, everything that happened afterward was a wild ride. From releasing original and collaborative dancefloor fillers with the likes of Martin Garrix, Tiësto, Major Lazer, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike to having all the DJs supporting our music to selling out our own shows and worldwide tours where we performed in front of millions of our fans throughout the years, to being in constant rotation on radio airwaves globally, we’ve got to the point where we can do what we want while staying independent. After a stream of successful radio and crossover releases during the past years with the likes of Blackbear, Kane Brown, Wiz Khalifa, Quinn XCII, 2 Chainz, Aloe Blacc & Cody Simpson, to name a few, it’s time we go dive deep to the underground where everything started for us, our fans & our team. We are stoked about bringing Jesse Jo Stark with us. She’s one of the dopest upcoming acts with a voice & presence that will take you down full journey into her world of melody, fashion & rock n roll… and let me tell you her world is like nothing that you have experienced before. We are looking forward to what the next 10 years will bring.” – DVBBS

“‘Breathe‘ makes me want to thrash around naked and release all my demons! it’s a sexy wet paradise!” – Jesse Jo Stark

DVBBS

Only a few producers have risen to the top in the electronic music scene as quickly as DVBBS, who captured the industry’s attention with hits like “Tsunami” and “Not Going Home” and never let it go. The Canadian brothers Alex and Christopher have been continuously cultivating their sound since their debut in 2012 and have racked up an impressive display of collaborations with renowned names from diverse musical backgrounds, such as blackbear, 24kGoldn, Jasmine Thompson, Belly, NERVO, Juicy J, Galantis, Cody Simpson, Aloe Blacc, Icona Pop, GASHI,  and more. DVBBS continue to prove there’s nothing they can’t accomplish. Their hits, such as “La La Land,” “Gold Skies,” and the breakthrough “Angel” are staples in every dance music fan’s library. Prior to the global pandemic, DVBBS performed a staggering 250 dates per year at some of the world’s hottest music festivals and top-tier clubs, including Tomorrowland, EDC Las Vegas, Ultra Music Festival, Hakkasan Las Vegas or Ibiza‘s Amnesia, and Ushuaia. Throughout their career, DVBBS has proved they are relentlessly dedicated to expanding their global footprint and bringing cutting-edge new music to their listeners.

Jesse Jo Stark

An LA native with a lifelong immersion in rock ‘n’ roll, Jesse Jo Stark‘s story seeps through her music – a heady, stylized mix of earthy Americana and Hollywood allure. The music is timeless, with unmissable nods to 70s rock, classic country, and ethereal pop, while heavy strokes of sex and kitsch add a playfulness to the workmanship of her songwriting. In 2014, she worked with former Sex Pistols guitarist – Steve Jones, to record her debut EP, “Down Your Drain.” Stark reappeared in 2017 with a new single, the moody, Mazzy Star-esque “Driftwood.” She then released her second EP, “Dandelion,” and went on to tour both the US and internationally, supporting acts such as Guns & Roses, The Vaccines, Sunflower Bean, The Heavy, and more. The full-length debut from Jesse Jo Stark, “DOOMED,” is a high-drama movie in the form of an album, the kind of immediate cult classic that inspires unending infatuation. Over the course of 11 elegantly feverish tracks, the Los Angeles-based artist conjures up an atmosphere informed by her intense fascination with the more macabre edge of the pop culture underground: Elvira, The Cramps, late-’80s horror movies. With its in-depth exploration of desire and surrender and newfound self-possession, “DOOMED” ultimately blurs the edges of truth and fantasy to build a gorgeously warped world wholly defined by Starks own dream-logic.

Title: Better Off (Alone Pt. III)
Label: MER Recordings

Download / Stream

In an unusual collision of forces, Norwegian superstar Alan Walker teams up with veteran producers Dash Berlin and British gaming sensation Vikkstar for “Better Off (Alone Pt. III),” for which the talented creative minds gave new life to one of the 90s most iconic dance tracks. “Better Off (Alone Pt. III)” contains the original’s catchy vocals together with a spotlight on the “I think you better come along” lyric, while progressive melodies and euphonious basslines are infused into the classic Eurodance beats to make for a unique combination of past and present. It is also the third installment of Alan Walker‘s “Alone” series, which began in 2016 with the title track “Alone” and continued with 2019’s “Alone Pt. II” with Ava Max. This meaningful trilogy shares a common thread of positivity and unity, encouraging listeners to support and look out for one another on and off the dance floor (you can find content related to the series under the #BetterComeAlong hashtag). On this project, Alan – known for always helping young talent, took Vikkstar – who was brand new to producing music, under his wing as part of his personal mission to lift up talented artists and bring their music to the world. The producers from Dash Berlin loved what Walker and Vikkstar were doing with the early versions of “Better Off (Alone Pt. III)” and wanted to get involved in it instantly.

“Teaming up with Dash Berlin and Vikkstar for ‘Better Off (Alone Pt. III)‘ has been a creative whirlwind. We’ve reimagined a beloved 90s gem, infusing it with a contemporary twist that’s bound to resonate with fans old and new. This collaboration embodies the magic of music – a fusion of nostalgia and innovation.” – Alan Walker

“Proud to be a part of this momentous team up with dance music icon Alan Walker and legendary YouTube phenomenon Vikkstar, together with Dash Berlin producers Seb & Eelke celebrating 25 years of their monster hit ‘Better Off Alone‘. Reborn and reworked as a magical future classic as part of Alan Walker‘s celebrated ‘Alone‘ saga, ready to make the whole world sing along with us once again.” – Ryan Fieret from Dash Berlin

“Dance music has been something I’ve loved for over a decade, simply as a fan. Meanwhile, attending festivals all over the world, from Tomorrowland to EDC Las Vegas to Ultra Music Festival in Miami. Alan and I have been friends for over five years, always making an effort to meet up whenever we’re in the same country. He encouraged me to venture outside my comfort zone and start DJing firstly, then to experiment with music production. Being able to work on this project with a close friend has been a great experience, with lots to learn. I’ve been quietly producing & working on my own music. I’m very excited that my first-ever release will be a collaboration not only with Alan but also with Dash Berlin. Both artists have a legendary reputation and it’s been an honor to join them.” – Vikkstar

Alan Walker

Continuously delivering thumping beats and hypnotic records, 26-year-old Norwegian producer and DJ Alan Walker is truly a force to be reckoned with. With over 120 million followers across his social platforms, 9 billion YouTube views, and over 50 billion audio and video streams, the young artist from Bergen, Norway, is nowhere near kicking his feet up anytime soon. Alan Walker arrived on the music scene in late 2015 with his debut hit single “Faded,” garnering over 1.7 billion Spotify streams and a massive 3.5 billion YouTube video views. Being the 19th most-watched music video on YouTube, the single also left him with a BRIT Awards nomination for Song Of The Year, as well as a Norwegian Grammy win in the same category. After building a massive social following and releasing a string of successful singles like “Alone” and “Darkside,” collaborating with artists like Ava Max, Noah Cyrus, Sia, Bruno Mars, and Coldplay, the chart-topping debut album “Different World” arrived in late 2018 and is currently approaching 5 billion streams on Spotify alone. While holding a pristine track record, Alan has played over 700 headlining shows and festivals to date, including Coachella and Tomorrowland, in addition to selling out his worldwide arena tours, Aviation Tour, and Walkerverse Tour. In 2022 Alan released his third album, “Walkerverse Pt. I & II.”

Dash Berlin

Dash Berlin, the famous music project founded by BMI award-winning music producer Sebastiaan Molijn, has been delighting Trance fans from all over the world for more than a decade. Together with his youth friend and illustrious co-producer Eelke Kalberg, Molijn took the Dash Berlin collective to the top of the dance music world with a stunning DJ Mag top 7 position and some of the biggest Trance classics of all time, such as “Till the Sky Falls Down,” “Man on the Run” and “Waiting.” The Dash Berlin team is now back stronger than ever and ready for round two with new frontman Ryan, brand new music releases , and memorable performances at the world’s biggest festival stages and most celebrated venues. With chart-topping remixes for major artists such as Armin van Buuren, The Chainsmokers, Alan Walker, Hardwell, Zedd, and many others, Dash Berlin remains a household name in the ever-expanding dance music hemisphere.

Vikkstar

Online Creator, and 1/7th of Youtube powerhouse the Sidemen – followed by millions, Vikkstar needs no introduction. His worldwide audience has been building for a decade, and DJ sets published on his YouTube channel have been met with universal praise, a feeling replicated by anyone who witnessed any of his live shows. If successful YouTubers and DJs have one thing in common, it’s connecting with an audience – and Vikkstar is proof that this is a transferrable skill. This is paired with a deep appreciation for the art form, an ear for good music, and a talent for track selection. He has been creating content for over a decade, but Vikkstar, as a DJ and artist, is just getting started – from playing shows around the world to releasing his own music.

Colourburn debut with powerful new single “Star” off upcoming EP out November 24

by the partae September 29, 2023
written by the partae

Melbourne alternative rock trio Colourburn make their debut with grungey new single Star, leading the way towards their new EP, ‘Compromise In Colour‘, out Friday November 24.

Drawing on influences from the likes of Movements, Stand Atlantic and Holding Absence, a fresh-faced Colourburn arrive on the scene bringing emo energy and post-punk grit to the forefront. New song Star explores love and loss and the complex emotions that surround the process of a break up.

The band explain that the song is about “struggling to find one’s place in a changing relationship and the difficulty of letting go of something that once meant so much”.

Colourburn welcomed Christopher Vernon (Bloom, Belle Haven, Tapestry) to the team to produce, mix and master and joined forced with Martin Wood of Int Digital (Void Of Vision, The Last Martyr) for video and visuals. Streaming via BVTV on YouTube, the Star video clip visualises an intimate and impassioned performance of the single alongside moments of quiet introspection. Watch here.

The ‘Compromise In Colour’ EP is an encapsulation of creative exploration, diving into a diverse range of concepts and themes across the five tracks that make up the collection. “We didn’t really go for a single pointed direction, we just went with what felt right,” tells the band. “The meanings behind each song vary from heartbreak to feeling out of place.”

Forming while in the throes of the pandemic in 2020, Colourburn is Jordyn Briggs (vocals), Jack Gray (bass) and Josh McIntosh (guitar). The three-piece built their musical foundations playing in previous projects and connected over shared mutual interests to form Colourburn.

A cathartic process for founding guitarist Josh, the ‘Compromise In Colour’ EP spawned from a place of rediscovery, where the love of rock and alternative music powered a passion to create and connect. Beginning with riffs that had long been stored as notes and voice memos from years before, Josh rejuvenated, polished and collaborated with Jack and Jordyn to complete their debut EP.

Taking their time to craft a collection of work that fully encapsulates the bands identity, the trio have created a five-track extended release that’s set to appeal to fans of punk rock power with alt-pop sensibility.

Star is available now and streaming everywhere. The ‘Compromise In Colour’  EP will be available everywhere Friday November 24.

Heaps Gay to celebrate 10th birthday with “Wet Dreams” party by Sydney harbour

by the partae September 28, 2023
written by the partae

Sydney queer institution Heaps Gay is turning 10 this November, and to mark such an epic milestone they’ll celebrate with three parties this Spring. Today they announce the lineup of their huge birthday party on Sydney Harbour – Wet Dreams – taking over the Fleet Steps at Mrs Macquarie’s Point on November 19.

Set against the stunning backdrop of Sydney Harbour, Wet Dreams will bring in an array of performers and DJs; including acclaimed British singer-songwriter and producer Aluna, global icon and Spice Girl Melanie C (DJ set), American rapper Cakes da Killa, Nigerian singer-songwriter Kah-Lo and UK “Future RnB” DJ JAMZ SUPERNOVA. In quintessential Heaps Gay fashion, expect a sweaty and colourful dancefloor soundtracked by a masterfully curated selection of local favourites, such as drag queen Felicia Foxx, renowned vibe maker DJ Charlie Villas, dancefloor mainstay Jacqui Cunningham and visuals by Byron Spencer just to name a few.

Wet Dreams presale starts 6pm AEDT Wednesday 4 October – sign up for access HERE. General public tickets on sale HERE from 6pm AEDT Thursday 5 October.

Heaps Gay started in 2013 at the old Gladstone Hotel in Chippendale, back before lockouts, COVID lockdowns and at a time when marriage equality did not exist. Heaps Gay started as a safe sanctuary for queers and allies to dance together and enjoy art; over the past decade and more than 100 parties later, reflecting on some of its most iconic moments recalls: a party in Sydney Town Hall with Vanessa Amorosi, taking over Hyde Park and St Mary’s Cathedral (pissing off the Catholic Church in the process), a rage-inspired music show during COVID called Loud & Queer TV, the Enrol For Equality Weekender – aka “give the government the ring finger” parties around Sydney for marriage equality, a Street Party in Marrickville with Ngaiire, a touring “Karaoke Closet” with Groovin’ the Moo and a million Love is Love balloons moment.

To honour this remarkable history, the 10th birthday festivities kick off this long weekend with HEAPS GAY STREET PARTY – 10TH BIRTHDAY presented by Heaps Normal – as part of Marrickville Block Weekender on 30 September, building on the success of their famed Roadwerk events. Across two stages, expect the impeccable party vibes that queers and allies alike have come to know and love – from BIG WETT, VVPete and Tseba each joined by some special friends, to Stereogamous, Dameeeela, MungMung and many more – with a sprinkling of drag and colourful roaming performers for good measure.

They’ll close out 10 years of Heaps Gay with a free Powerhouse Up Late party; a retrospective with music, film and performances from 5-9pm on November 30.

Nothing says main character energy more than a party at Mrs Macquarie’s Point on Sydney Harbour (with a Spice Girl!!!). This special moment will bring together all shades of the rainbow community in the beloved Harbour Party site (that was run by Mardi Gras many moons ago) and the iconic Harbourlife now in its 20th year.

EMERGING CANADIAN POP ARTIST CHAYCE KENNEDY’S “MR. SUPER FINE” CAPTURES THE EXCITEMENT, INNOCENCE, AND HOPEFULNESS OF YOUNG LOVE

by the partae September 26, 2023
written by the partae

Canadian pop artist Chayce Kennedy is excited to share her new single, “Mr. Super Fine”, which is available across all digital streaming platforms with an accompanying music video on YouTube.

Written by Chayce along with Juno Award-winning producer Ryan Stewart (Carly Rae Jepsen, Jocelyn Alice) and actor/songwriter Roark Critchlow (“Pretty Little Liars”, “Days of Our Lives”), “Mr. Super Fine” is the first single to drop from the artist’s debut EP, “Yours Truly”, which will arrive in 2024.

An energetic, upbeat pop love song with dreamy, hopeful lyrics, “Mr. Super Fine” exudes the same bubbly happiness that strikes the heartstrings when the possibility of love is within one’s grasp.

Chayce says, “This song is about the feelings that come out when you’re looking for your perfect someone. Through many dates, experiences, and new crushes in my teen years, there’s something innocent and exciting when you connect with someone who could be your person. I wanted to explore that spark that hits you when you don’t know exactly where things will go, but just the thought of being with them is magical enough for right now.”

Based in Penticton, British Columbia, Chayce was inspired to pursue music after seeing Taylor Swift live in concert. Now a prolific emerging artist and live performer in her own right – with five past singles and over 100 live shows since 2021 – Chayce brought her next slate of songs to past collaborator Stewart and Critchlow, a mentor since childhood. After three new songs were recorded, she added Grammy-nominated Brian West (Nelly Furtado, Maroon 5) to the mix and emerged with two more tracks to complete the EP. Overall, the collective support for Chayce from diverse sectors of the entertainment industry has only strengthened her confidence to reach new highs in a career that is quickly blossoming.

Chayce’s new music promises to offer more personal themes by touching on her own experiences with love, heartbreak, mental health, and body image. “Mr. Super Fine” explores the first of these with pure bliss and optimism, which she believes listeners can apply to their own lives as well.

She says, “In the beginning, love is crazy and scary. If you want it, you need to believe in what you want and give someone else a chance to feel that way about you. If someone feels right, let yourself hope, and let yourself believe in what you could be together.”

Chayce is supporting “Mr. Super Fine” with an accompanying music video, and she will also be opening for Juno Award-winning trio The Good Lovelies on October 26th at the Creekside Theatre in Lake Country, British Columbia. Her next single, “Until This Night”, will arrive in the New Year.

BWS Cool Room returns with ARMANI WHITE, LIME CORDIALE & MEMPHIS LK

by the partae September 26, 2023
written by the partae

As the Aussie Summer prepares to deliver the heat, BWS is preparing to bring the cool with the highly anticipated return of BWS Cool Room music series. And the best bit? Fans can apply to be part of these very special gigs for FREE by entering the ballot.

The chilled-down-not-out live music events will pop-up in Sydney, Newcastle and Melbourne and feature a stellar line-up of Australian and International talent inside a custom built BWS Cool Room (yes, they’re really fridges) across the eastern seaboard.

Among this year’s line-up of hot artists, global hip-hop superstar, Armani White will touch down in Australia for the very first time in Victoria, with surf-rock legends Lime Cordiale and electronic sensation Memphis LK leading the charge for Sydney and Newcastle.

The BWS Cool Room is a multi-sensory live music experience – a giant, purpose-built stage-come-fridge that invites fans to step through its fridge doors and into a gig like nothing else. We know the world has been wondering what a music gig would feel like if it were in a larger-than-life fridge, and now fans can feel it for themselves. Once again, the artists are turning up the heat and this year BWS are turning up the surprises.

Headlining the Victorian BWS Cool Room stage is Billion-streaming U.S Rapper and social media music sensation, Armani White who catapulted to stardom with his viral hit record, ‘Billie Eilish’ which reached over 15M Spotify streams alone. This will be his first ever performance in Australia.

The US star says he’s ecstatic to get the call up for the exclusive event.

“When I got the call to perform inside a huge inflatable cool room, I just had to say YES! The creativity and the concept for something like this is extremely impressive and it is what I am about musically. As an artist I am all about pushing the boundaries but still making sure my music is for all of those who appreciate it.

“I have never been to Australia before and I really want to be amongst a crowd that bring the vibe and the energy.”

As part of the inaugural SXSW® Sydney calendar of events, BWS has partnered with Lime Cordiale who will kick-start the 2023 Cool Room series with a bang at Central Park, Sydney as part of the festival of music and innovation on 19 October 2023.

“We’d been looking for a way to play a meaningful part of SXSW Sydney and the BWS Cool Room is giving us a distinct and fun way for us to do just that, we’re thrilled to be kicking-off the series of events this October,” said the band.

The infectious five-piece band recently released their latest single. ‘Imposter Syndrome’ and landed four songs in Triple J’s Hottest 100 of 2022 including ‘Holy Moley’, which featured a collaboration with the multi-talented British actor, DJ, and musician Idris Elba.

“Music is a truly authentic way for us to connect with young Aussies and the BWS Cool Room is the perfect platform for us to do this,” said An Le, Head of Brand Marketing at BWS. “After seeing the impact of BWS Cool Room last year, we’re excited to continue to evolve our unique voice in music and to reach more communities over Summer. We have bold ambitions to go bigger and are thrilled to unveil our line-up of artists for this year!”

To attend, music fans must sign up via the BWS website to receive their entry into the ballot. Fans will also automatically go in the draw to win a Golden Ticket; 2 double passes to attend Armani White’s show in Victoria including flights, accommodation and a meet and greet with the artist himself. These are sure to be the hottest music tickets of the summer festival season.

JVNA Returns as Villain on 2nd Studio Album “Play With You” and Takes Listeners Inside An Anime Video Game Where Filled With Hard-Hitting Melodic Bass and Mesmerizing Self-Sung Vocals

by the partae September 26, 2023
written by the partae

Artist: JVNA
Title: Play With You (album)
Label: Self-release

Download / Stream

When JVNA released her single “Play With You” last month as a teaser to her upcoming album of the same name, it was clear that the American–Taiwanese multi talented powerhouse was completely shifting her paradigm as an artist in this new chapter. With the full release of her 11-track body of work, JVNA is here to let the world see a new side of her–one that paints a picture of a demonic and siren-like anime girl, seducing the listener to let her free during “The Game“‘s prelude. The album proceeds into the cinematic bass production fueled with rap vocals on “The World Is Mine,” which sets the tone with a boss babe attitude and hard-hitting production style. From the dark melodies and stabbing synths of “Demon Time” to the trance and hardstyle influences of the cathartic “Take Your Throne,” to the melodic dubstep style of “Savage,” JVNA is taking no prisoners on this album. Read on for her inspiration behind her deeply personal journey to make “Play With You.”

“I see life like a video game, and we are all given the option to take on different quests. In this album, I imagine myself breaking free from the prison my enemies have put me in. And setting fire in their world with laughter! Muahahaha” – JVNA

California-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist JVNA produces electronic music that plays at the dichotomy of light and dark, bass and melody, organic and synthetic. Raised by Taiwanese immigrants, JVNA studied classical piano from the age of 6 and started writing songs when she was 11. Her studies continued at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where she learned to score films and video games. Initially, JVNA made fun edits and remixes of her favorite anime and video game soundtracks. Her 2018 song “I’m With You,” inspired by her father’s death two years earlier, dared to dive deep into an emotional world. JVNA self-directed the song’s music video. The Follow-up single “Catch Me,” released in 2019, took JVNA on a sold-out tour across the United States. Due to the pandemic, it was canceled, and JVNA returned to the studio to focus on the album’s production. She pushed herself to incorporate more live keys, piano, and organic textures. In 2021 JVNA released her debut studio album – “Hope In Chaos,” which is a diverse collection of styles featuring JVNA‘s voice like it’s never been heard before, opening up about so much more than the standard dance floor love songs.

Everlyne defy expectations on new single “Wreck-less”

by the partae September 23, 2023
written by the partae

Melbourne alternative rock band Everlyne inspire listeners to follow their own desired path despite expectation on new single Wreck-less.

The song serves as the next chapter in this fresh new era of Everlyne, continuing to lean into dark and cinematic electronic soundscapes established on previous single The Inbetween. In collaboration with producer Chris Lalic (Windwaker), Wreck-less showcases the power and versatility of vocalist Mackenzie Shaye, flaunting effortless pop sensibility and vocal lines delivered with conviction.

“Wreck-less is a fun track about being whatever you want to be in spite of everyone else” explains Shaye. “It’s a story of self-actualisation that tells the haters to ‘stick it’. It encourages others to follow their own path of discovery to evolve into their best selves.”

Wreck-less is an infectious upbeat offering paired with catchy melodic hooks satisfying fans of modern commercial rock, with dazzling electronic percussion and fuzzy guitar layers. These elements remain consistent with previous single The Inbetween, showcasing Everlyne at their strongest.

Forming in 2019, Everlyne is an energetic, alternative rock band specialising in their unique meld of soaring powerhouse vocals from vocalist Shaye against a backdrop of heavy-hitting, driving instrumentation from her three counterparts. Brothers Nathan Borg and Jordan Borg take on the roles of guitarist and bassist and are joined by drummer Sam Stone to make up the four-piece.

Influenced by staples of the alternative music scene in Paramore, Bring Me The Horizon and Halestorm, Everlyne toe the line connecting their influences and experiment with haunting vocal performances, chugging guitar riffs and contagious melodies.

Everlyne have been consistent with writing and recording and have showcased their electric live show in support of acts including Slowly Slowly, Columbus, The Smith Street Band, Vilify, ATLVS and Future Static. New singles Wreck-less and The Inbetween are the quartet’s first releases since their 2022 debut EP, ‘It’s Not Me, It’s You’ which saw radio play nationally on triple j’s short.fast.loud, Triple M’s Hard N Heavy, community radio and more.

Pooling their collective talent and energy together, Everlyne have a hunger to prove they’re an Aussie act to keep eyes on. Wreck-less is out now and streaming everywhere.
