The Teskey Brothers Return With ‘This Will Be Our Year’

by the partae November 11, 2022
written by the partae
‘THIS WILL BE OUR YEAR’ IS A COVER OF THE ZOMBIES ORIGINAL
+ PERFORMANCE WITH ORCHESTRA VICTORIA NEXT WEEK (SYD)
+ ARIA NOMINATION FOR BEST BLUES & ROOTS FOR
LIVE AT HAMER HALL WITH ORCHESTRA VICTORIA
+ HEADLINE SHOW IN DEC AT THE PALACE FORESHORE (MELB)

The Teskey Brothers make their eagerly anticipated return with the release of their new single, ‘This Will Be Our Year’ – a cover of the classic song by The Zombies, and a timely sentiment as we approach 2023. On this version of the track, we hear the psychedelic-era pop sound of the original is supplanted by classic Teskey Brothers soul.

“We just played it in our way,” says Sam. “That’s the cool thing—sometimes when you try and cover something and you don’t spend too long trying to make it perfect, you just naturally fall into your own way of playing it and it naturally becomes your own thing.”

‘This Will Be Our Year’ sees the band collaborate with producer Eric J Dubowsky for the first time, whose CV includes records by Flume, Chet Faker and Weezer. The new music arrives ahead of the band’s performance with Orchestra Victoria next Fri 18th November at the Aware Super Theatre in Sydney, in celebration of their album Live At Hamer Hall, nominated for Best Blues and Roots Album at this year’s ARIA Awards. The band will then round out the year playing at Harvest Rock, Queenscliff Music Festival and a special headline show at the Palace Foreshore for Always Live on Sun Dec 4 in Melbourne.

The Teskey Brothers version of ‘This Will Be Our Year’ retains the harmonic and melodic integrity of the Zombies original, but in their hands, ‘This Will Be Our Year’ feels untethered to the past, newly animated by Josh’s distinctive vocal expression. The arrangement is unfussy, decorated with organs, horns and a hint of Muscle Shoals in the rhythm section. They haven’t given it a complete facelift, but the psychedelic-era pop sound of the original is supplanted by classic Teskey Brothers soul.

“’This Will Be Our Year’ is one of the most beautiful and interesting songs of all time, that everyone SHOULD know but not many people have really heard of… The question I keep asking is ‘how did they fit so many beautiful lyrics into that rhythm and melody?’ It shouldn’t work so well. But it does. I love this song and the sentiment to bring in the new year. ‘This Will Be Our Year’ by The Zombies, the Teskeyfied version. Happy festive season and bring on 2023!” – Josh Teskey

The Teskey Brothers are one of the great success stories in contemporary soul and roots music. Rooted in the partnership between vocalist Josh Teskey and his brother, guitarist and engineer Sam Teskey, the soul and R&B outfit from Warrandyte on the fringes of Melbourne have made their mark on the mainstream since releasing their debut album, Half Mile Harvest, in January 2017. The Teskey Brothers’ second album, 2019’s Run Home Slow, reached #2 in Australia and resonated with audiences across the globe, leading to major headline shows in London, Amsterdam and New York.  In the wake of its success, The Teskey Brothers landed slots at major festivals like Bonnaroo and Japan’s Fuji Rock, performed in front of ten-thousand people at Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre and appeared on US network TV show Jimmy Kimmel Live!  Along the way, Sam Teskey earned a Grammy nomination for Best Engineered Album and The Teskey Brothers released a live album Live At The Forum, landing their first Australian #1 album.

Set Times for Loch Hart Music Festival

by the partae November 10, 2022
written by the partae

The set times have been released for Loch Hart Music Festival and they are a thing of beauty.

Loch Hart Music Festival is a two-night, three-day, BYO camping festival happening next weekend 18-20 November, on the Great Ocean Road in Princetown.

Festival Director, Jayden Bath said – “Set times are our number one consideration when booking artists.”

“We think about the mood of the festival at different points in time and consider which artist will match that, and who is going to give our attendees the best live experience. Then we book the whole lineup based on those set times as it’s all about the programming!”

This pragmatic approach is on display with the recently released Loch Hart Music Festival set times, which, like a perfectly curated playlist is something to be admired.

Night 1: The festival kicks off with glimmering upbeat pop from Velvet Bloom and Hobsons Bay Coast Guard, before rolling straight into two of the most captivating acts in Australia right now – Party Dozen and Peter Bibby. At midnight, full party mode is activated with Digital Afrika followed by Joey Lightbulb deep into the night.

Day 2: Wake up to the soothing tunes of Jarrah Ma, and dabble in a light yoga session if you will. Good Sniff will ensure you’re awake, before the likes of Empress, Squid Nebula and Galah make sure you’re on your feet. Wurst Nurse, Alien Nosejob and Harmony Bryne will light up the afternoon with a string of dynamic and enthralling sets. Before the globally renowned Gordon Koang sets the amphitheatre into a dance frenzy.

An evening Comedy Hour: You don’t even know you want it until you have it. It’s likely you’ll be puffed at this point. Best to sit down, grab a drink or meal, and cackle until your sides hurt. The Comedy Hour features a star-studded cast including Aaron Gocs, Blake Freeman, Emma Holland, Sonia Di Iorio and Tim Hewitt.

Night 2: Pop-duo WIIGZ take the reins for the festival’s sunset slot as it transitions from day to night. The night time is nothing but heavy-hitting disco and dance party anthems – Kylie Auldist, into Harvey Sutherland, into Sunshine and Disco Faith Choir. What a procession! Plus, those who stick around until 3am will get to witness the – need to see it to believe it – one man show of Roy Blues.

Day 3: Finally, Leah Senior and Watty Thompson will close the festival with what can only be described as the perfect Sunday session. Two absolute stars who will leave you feeling euphoric as the weekend comes to an end.

Loch Hart Music Festival features 25 acts, a comedy hour, BYO + bar, food trucks, yoga, outdoor cinema, and free camping with ocean views.

byGanz Extraordinaire & Astral Element have teamed up to create Saraab, a new festival concept in the heart of the Red Sea Mountains of Il Monte Galala by Tatweer Misr, taking place December 1-2nd, 2022.

Have you ever woken up and not been able to make out the end of your dream and the beginning of your memories? Had a night that felt more illusion than reality? Met someone that seemed to be from another dimension?

“Like a mirage in the distance, we believe that the way things are is not the way they have to be. That when we come together, at the right time for the right reason, anything is achievable. Sound becomes language. Strangers become friends. Time a mere illusion. Some say it’s all an illusion, we prefer to call it Saraab.”

Saraab is a one of a kind 2-day electronic festival held by the majestic mountains of the Red Sea with a killer sea view. With a venue capacity of 3000 attendees and some of the biggest names in the electronic industry playing back to back, Saraab will be held over the span of two days across two main stages and a marketplace.

With a lineup announced that includes Polo & Pan (DJ set), Maceo Plex, Âme (live), Éclair Fifi, Mano Le Tough, Bas Ibellini, Terr, Lamache, Maher Daniel, Gerd Janson, D’Julz, Salomé Le Chat, William Djoko as well as local heroes, Misty, Chiati (live), Aroussi, DNGR GNGR and Maie; the SARAAB lineup will be unforgettable.

Along with two performing stages, the marketplace will include vendors of all kinds as well as a smaller stage with up and coming artists as Saraab looks to spotlight local and rising talent.

Saraab is bringing together DJs and visual artists and establishing a market where people can share their interests and products from vintage pieces to art pieces and fashion in a one-of-a-kind market alongside mouthwatering food pop-ups.
Located in Il Monte Galala, the top-notch destination is the ideal location for the event due to its raw natural beauty and space. The venue is spacious and versatile with a killer view of the mountains and the sea and located only an hour away from Cairo.

Three-time Grammy award nominee Nai Palm headlines summer NGV Friday Nights

16 December 2022 – 14 April 2023 | NGV International | Bookings required, admission fees apply

The NGV has released the live music line-up for the return of NGV Friday Nights this summer with three-time Grammy nominated singer-songwriter Nai Palm headlining the opening night on 16 December 2022.

Programmed in conjunction with NGV’s summer blockbuster exhibition, Alexander McQueen: Mind, Mythos, Muse, the spectacular drama of Alexander McQueen’s design genius and the late ‘90s London scene inspires the musical line-up and design of this season’s NGV Friday Nights.

The 18-week live music series will feature some of Melbourne’s most creative musical minds spanning disco, glam rock, punk, jazz, and soul. Nai Palm’s magnetic neo-soul sound will fill the NGV’s Great Hall on opening night, with further highlights throughout the series including Electric Fields, Kee’ahn, Banoffee and Billy Davis.

NGV Friday Nights offers late-night access to Alexander McQueen: Mind, Mythos, Muse, the first major Australian exhibition to explore the work of Alexander McQueen (1969 – 2010). The exhibition, organised by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), in partnership with the NGV, will showcase 60 garments and accessories drawn from LACMA’s holdings of important works by McQueen alongside more than 50 designs by McQueen from the NGV Collection, making this Australian-exclusive presentation especially rich and comprehensive.

Offering an unprecedented insight into the mind of this seminal designer, McQueen’s work is presented alongside more than 70 historical artworks including painting, sculpture, photography, decorative arts and works on paper from the collections of LACMA and NGV, revealing the myriad reference points that influenced his designs.

Evoking the innovation and theatre of McQueen’s famed fashion shows, guests at NGV Friday Nights can view screenings of some of the designer’s most iconic runways throughout the evening in the Great Hall. The runway show screenings, all of which are represented by garments in the exhibition, include Dante 1996, Joan 1998, Horn of Plenty 2006, and the designer’s final runway collection, Plato’s Atlantis 2010.

Tony Ellwood AM, Director, NGV said: ‘With the NGV Friday Nights series this summer, we are thrilled to once again support leading local and international performers and celebrate artistic innovation through a spectacular presentation of fashion, art and music.’

The NGV Garden will also come alive with live DJ sets in the 2022 NGV Architecture Commission: Temple of Boom, an evocative reimagining of the Parthenon on the Acropolis adorned with overlapping large-scale artworks by Melbourne-based artists. The Moët Champagne Terrace Bar will light up the Garden serving the iconic Moët Impérial Champagne, Moët Rosé Impérial, plus Moët Minis from the Moët Mini-Matic. At the Four Pillars Gin Bar, guests can enjoy classic G&Ts or an original Four Pillars cocktail.

In the Great Hall, the Yering Station Wine Bar offers fine wines from the Yarra Valley and a wine tasting experience featuring Rosé, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. NTH RD release impassioned new single “I Watched You Fade Away”

NOVEMBER 18 – STAY GOLD, MELBOURNE
SUPPORTING SUPYRIA W/ HARROWAY + RANSOM REVUE

TICKETS

Melbourne’s NTH RD release their hard hitting new single “I Watched You Fade Away”, exploring the processes of loss and change. The video is streaming today via The AU Review!

“I Watched You Fade Away” is produced, mixed and mastered by Chistopher Vernon (Belle Haven, Future Static, Bloom) and serves as a follow-up to the band’s debut EP ‘Panic‘, released in June. Outlining the different stages of a panic attack, NTH RD’s debut EP ‘Panic‘ exhibited the band’s determination and willingness to explore difficult topics, “I Watched You Fade Away”  addresses similar themes.

Vocalist and lyricist Jordan Kellaway divulges that the song ‘revolves around the concept of somebody changing into a person that you no longer recognise‘, rather than the physical sense of loss. The title of the single aptly summarises the story of the song, with bassist Lucas Banim affirming that the song details ‘the notion of losing a friend, and watching them gradually ‘fade away’ into a shell of the person that you used to know‘.

Encompassing all aspects of NTH RD’s established sound, “I Watched You Fade Away” features elements that have come to define the band; anthemic arena-ready riffs, huge choruses and atmospheric soundscapes, all while boasting the band’s most dynamic and crushing breakdowns to date. Brooding and heavy from the onset with melodic flourishes littered throughout, NTH RD’s energetic new single promises to have listeners in a chokehold until the very last note.

NTH RD is Jordan Kellaway (vocals), Lucas Banim (bass), Billy Balassis (guitar) and John Mihaloudakis (drums). Solidifying their position as a band to watch moving towards 2023, “I Watched You Fade Away” reinforces NTH RD’s ability to provide consistent and catchy tunes, while demonstrating the results of the band’s well-honed work ethic.

Beat Mag praised NTH RD for “seamlessly blending atmospheric passages with huge choruses, infectious riffs and crushing breakdowns” on the ‘Panic‘ EP, Wall Of Sound confirmed “Panic is a brilliant first outing that really gives the Melbourne quartet a chance to spread their wings” and Hysteria Mag highlighted that the band “really own a sound that would appeal to fans of any genre of heavy music.”

Despite the short time frame between releases, fans can be sure that when this band drops a new song, it comes with intention and purpose, “I Watched You Fade Away” is no exception, and serves as yet another noteworthy inclusion to the band’s quickly growing catalogue.

“I Watched You Fade Away” will be available and streaming on all platforms tomorrow. Video streaming now!

SUM 41 ANNOUNCE INTIMATE MELBOURNE CLUB SHOW WITH SPECIAL GUESTS TEENAGE JOANS TERRA TOURING IN DECEMBER WITH THE OFFSPRING

by the partae November 7, 2022
written by the partae

Want some more Sum 41 in 2022? Along with joining The Offspring on the sold out national Australian tour this December, the Canadian punk rock juggernauts are thrilled to announce an intimate club show at Northcote Theatre in Melbourne on Tuesday 6 December.

Hitting Australia next month alongside the equally formidable punk lords The Offspring, Sum 41 will treat Melbourne fans to a special headline show while they’re down under, with Adelaide duo Teenage Joans and Melbourne alt-rockers Terra set to raise the roof at the Northcote alongside the Ontario icons.

Having sold over 15 million records worldwide and scoring a Grammy Award nomination, two Juno Awards, a Kerrang! Award and multiple Alternative Press Awards in their storied career, Sum 41 are undeniably one of the most prolific and hard-working live acts. From the ongoing endurance of their breakout singles Fat Lip, In Too Deep and Motivation to their reputation for performing (pre-COVID) hundreds of times per year, it’s little wonder Sum 41 have been routinely hailed as one of Canada’s most successful and exciting exports; and absence has only made the heart grow fonder, with the band bringing their bigger and better than ever before live prowess down under to close out 2022.

Also hailing back to high school days, Adelaide two-piece Teenage Joans took out the triple j Unearthed High crown back in 2020, with the duo going on to release a continuous flow of beloved tunes, appear onstage at festivals including Summer Sounds, Mountain Goat Valley Crawl and Yours & Owls Festival, while also touring alongside the likes of Violent Soho, Ruby Fields, The Hard Aches, Clowns and many others.

Beginning life in high school before forays into busking and YouTube covers, a pop rock cover of Vanessa Carlton’s A Thousand Miles cemented the ongoing and resounding adoration for Melbourne five-piece Terra. Since then, the group have gone on to showcase their fresh and immersive take on the alternative and pop-rock realms, with their 2022 EP Reverie firmly flexing the band’s sonic diversity and sharpened songwriting chops.

They landed their first #1 Aria chart debut with their 2016 release Gore and in 2018 they curated, launched, presented, and headlined their own festival, Dia De Los Deftones. Selling out both installments to date, the eclectic lineups hosted everyone from Future and CHVRCHES to Gojira and Megan Thee Stallion. In 2020, Deftones continued their trailblazing arc as an alternative leader with their ninth full-length album, Ohms which debuted at #3 on the Aria album chart and a thrilling full-album remix of White Pony.

GOJIRA
WITH SPECIAL GUESTS LACUNA COIL
TUESDAY 29 NOVEMBER – ROUNDHOUSE, SYDNEY
THURSDAY 1 DECEMBER – FORUM THEATRE, MELBOURNE
TUESDAY 6 DECEMBER – EATONS HILL HOTEL, BRISBANE

Grammy nominated French heavy metal quartet Gojira have risen from the utmost obscurity during the first half of their career to widespread global recognition in the second. Combining elements of thrash, death, math, groove, progressive, and post-metal with philosophical and environment-themed lyrics. They have made their mark as one of the paramount metal bands of this generation.Joining them as special guests are Italian alt metal superstars Lacuna Coil.

Lacuna Coil’s spirited and lauded live performances have also earned them a solid reputation for a band that not only delivers night in/night out, but also a band whose stage performance reverberates long after the show is over. Lacuna Coil’s heartfelt, heavy, melodic, and rhythmic metal—a hybrid of gothic, groove, and alternative—has created a rabid worldwide following.

MILLENCOLIN

WEDNESDAY 30 NOVEMBER – 170 RUSSELL, MELBOURNE
MONDAY 5 DECEMBER – THE TIVOLI, BRISBANE

The much loved favourite seminal Swedish skate-punk band Millencolin promise to deliver shows you won’t forget. They’ll be performing all of their hits from across their entire catalogue.

It’s clear the band members are just as unified as they were when they formed Millencolin, roughly 30 years, nine albums and over 2,000 live shows ago. “We’re a band truly formed from respect and understanding for each other and our passion for rock music,” explains vocalist/bassist Nikola Sarcevic. “If you ask us, this is the best job in the world!”

SOULFLY

THURSDAY 1 DECEMBER – CROXTON BANDROOM, MELBOURNE
TUESDAY 6 DECEMBER – MANNING BAR, SYDNEY

At the dawn of the new millennium, Rolling Stone declared, “Soulfly seem built to last.” More than two decades, countless  worldwide tours, and a dozen albums later, that prophecy rings true.

Underground icon, extreme metal trailblazer, third world warrior, and leader of a diverse and dedicated tribe, Max Cavalera not only survives but thrives, blasting out riff after killer riff.

Soulfly’s savage anthems of aggression push extreme music to its bludgeoning limits while injecting it with brilliant moments of trippy nuance and dissonance. Like all innovative musical heroes, Max makes anthems for the people. Soulfly is a celebration of family and legacy. Whatever Max Cavalera hammers out on the bridges of his four-string guitars, it always sets souls free.

Their Australian shows will feature Fear Factory’s Dino Cazares as a special guest.
SLEEPING WITH SIRENS
WITH SPECIAL GUESTS THE BEAUTIFUL MONUMENT & BAD/LOVE
WEDNESDAY 30 NOVEMBER – THE GOV, ADELAIDE
THURSDAY 1 DECEMBER – MAX WATTS, MELBOURNE
TUESDAY 6 DECEMBER – THE TRIFFID, BRISBANE

Since emerging in 2010, Sleeping With Sirens have tested the boundaries of rock by walking a tightrope between pop, punk, metal, hardcore, electronic, acoustic, and even a little R&B. This high-wire balancing act attracted a faithful fan base known as “Strays,” generated global album sales in excess of 1.5 million, ignited over half-a-billion streams, and achieved a trio of gold-selling singles.

They’ve collaborated with MGK on Alone and Pierce the Veil on the gold-certified King For A Day. Beyond selling out shows worldwide and receiving acclaim from The New York Times, Alternative Press crowned them “Artist of the Year” at the Alternative Press Music Awards, proclaimed “Kick Me” the 2015 “Song of the Year”, and featured them as cover stars a whopping seven times.

Joining Sleeping With Sirens as special guests are Melbourne’s The Beautiful Monument and emotive rock group Bad/Love.
JINJER
WITH SPECIAL GUESTS EARTH CALLER & FUTURE STATIC
WEDNESDAY 30 NOVEMBER – MANNING BAR, SYDNEY
THURSDAY 1 DECEMBER – CORNER HOTEL, MELBOURNE

Through their relentless hard work, non-stop touring and critically acclaimed /chart-breaking releases gaining over 250M streams/views across all platforms globally – JINJER are truly one of modern metal’s hottest and most exciting bands around today. The band has become synonymous with doing things their own way and breaking every rule in the Heavy Metal handbook- which they made loudly clear on their hugely successful fourth studio album: WALLFLOWERS.

In less than12 years, the four-piece Progressive Groove metal wrecking machine has carved their very own place in the Metal landscape. Hailing from Donetsk but now based in Kiev, this Ukrainian musical oddity formed in 2009 but consider the official start of the band with the addition of the incredible vocalist and Femme Fatale Tatiana Shmayluk in 2010.

They’ll be supported by Melbourne’s metalcore ground Earth Caller and Melbourne quintet Future Static who create an exhilarating synthesis of alternative, melodic, and progressive to shape a unique brand of emotional heavy music which is unlike any other.

THE STORY SO FAR

ELECTRIC CALLBOY
WITH SPECIAL GUESTS PALEDUSK & DREGG (MELB) &
CLAY J GLADSTONE (SYD)
WEDNESDAY 30 NOVEMBER – MAX WATTS, MELBOURNE
THURSDAY 1 DECEMBER – FACTORY THEATRE, SYDNEY

As diverse and as electrifying as their name, Electric Callboy weld modern trap with alt rock, pop punk and beyond into an exhilarating musical experience. Their latest release TEKKNO debuted at #1 on the German album charts. It journeys between comedy, powerful pop, and trancecore, as well as oscillating between synthy pop and hard-hitting circle pit anthems with extreme ease.

The band’s first single with singer Nico Sallach, Hypa Hypa, reached over 60 million streams in an extremely short space of time, with the track becoming the band’s biggest success story so far. The band’s Youtube channel has over 182 million total views and counting.

Electric Callboy are known for their ecstatic live shows and will be performing in Australia for the very first time.

Supporting them as special guests are Japan’s most exciting heavy acts Paledusk and Melbourne’s DREGG. Clay J Gladstone will be supporting them in Sydney.

3OH!3

THURSDAY 1 DECEMBER – STAY GOLD, MELBOURNE

The dynamic duo Sean Foreman and Nathaniel Motte aka 3OH!3 have been rocking sold out venues, amphitheaters, and college campuses around the world since 2018.

Your boys have cemented their sound with global hits like Don’t Trust Me, STARSTRUKK (feat. Katy Perry), & My First Kiss (feat. Kesha). Having not released any music as 3OH!3 since 2016, Sean and Nat have written and produced hits for other artists such as Maroon 5’s Love Somebody, MAX’s Lights Down Low, Ariana Grande’s Tattooed Heart, and Kesha’s Blah Blah Blah.

They continued to play in front of thousands of fans while celebrating the 10-year anniversary of their RIAA certified Gold album WANT. in 2020, the itch of wanting to get back in the studio to make music that was fun, inclusive, edgy, weird and – most importantly – their own, proved to be an inevitable reality. And 3OH!3 is back with new music with more to come.

JXDN

TUESDAY 29 NOVEMBER – OXFORD ART FACTORY, SYDNEY
WEDNESDAY 30 NOVEMBER – NORTHCOTE SOCIAL CLUB, MELBOURNE

Defying the rules with style and substance, jxdn bends and breaks the boundaries as he moves between subcultures in a very genuine way to position himself as a new kind of rockstar.

Generating 15 million streams within a month and becoming the first artist signed to Travis Barker’s DTA Records, the 19-year-old genre breaker presents a signature style on a series of 2020 releases.

In 2018, he took control and developed a presence online through a consistent stream of engaging and clever content. He quietly exploded on Tik Tok, attracting 5.8 million followers and 202.3 million likes. After witnessing an arena show by the late Juice WRLD, he dove headfirst into music and unleashed his independent debut single Comatose. The track has since racked up over 20 million streams across platforms and broken into over 38 Global Viral Charts to date. Upon hearing it, Barker immediately signed him to DTA Records. Now, jxdn takes flight on the single Angels & Demons.

NOVA TWINS
WITH SPECIAL GUESTS BLOOD COMMAND
WEDNESDAY 30 NOVEMBER – CROWBAR, SYDNEY

Nova Twins are the zeitgeist-capturing polymath pioneers that our times have been waiting for. Whether pushing the MOBO Awards to create a category for POC alt. acts, to teaming up with No Music On A Dead Planet and Oxfam to play for environmental change, working with Dr. Martens to raise money for The Black Curriculum or aiming to inspire a new wave of young, diverse talent, Amy Love and Georgia South are much more than one of the UK’s most exciting bands – they are changemakers and they have battled through the old guard of rock’s narrow-minded expectations.

Rage Against The Machine icon Tom Morello dubbed them “an incredible band who deserve to be huge” as well as inviting them on tour with Prophets Of Rage. Bring Me The Horizon’s Oli Sykes called them one of his “favourite new bands” before having them collaborate on song ‘1×1’ from 2020’s UK No.1 album ‘POST HUMAN: SURVIVAL HORROR’.

There’s no band out there quite like Nova Twins. If more artists blazed a trail like this, we’d be celebrating a lot more difference, rather than craving what’s safe and similar. From being “shunned” when they arrived on the scene, now Nova Twins are leading a game all of their own. Now, there are no rules.

Joining them as special guests are Blood Command. Yngve Andersen and Australia’s Nikki Brumen live every moment in the mantra ‘Blood Command against the world’ which guides Bergen, Norway’s “death pop” quintet spiritually and sonically, and which forms the soul of their fourth full-length record, Praise Armageddonism.

written by the partae

Tickets for the third annual OFFBEAT MUSIC FESTIVAL in Eumundi are on sale today, Friday 4 November, with a line-up that brings some of Australia’s top acts to Eumundi for the first time ever and confirms that live music is back and it is better than ever.

The festival will take place on Saturday 25 March from 12noon, with two stages and a first announcement line-up that boasts Thelma Plum, Gretta Ray, Electric Fields, Clews, and Brisbane based Clea, alongside local favourites Blues Arcadia and a stack of fresh acts like bogan-funksters Playlunch and indie rockers Eastbound Buzz and Tommy Gun.

“We are thrilled with this first announcement line up and with limited ticket numbers to this boutique event, we are pretty excited to get tickets on sale.” says Festival Director Alice Jones.
“Without the assistance of the Federal Government’s RISE grant, acts like Thelma Plum, Gretta Ray and Electric Fields would not be seen in Eumundi, we are very lucky,” Alice says.
Alice says OFFBEAT promises to be just that. “A little offbeat, a bit quirky, a little off the beaten track, and a bit of the unexpected,” she says.
The weeks ahead will see the announcement of further OFFBEAT events that will form part of the Offbeat Music Festival weekend running from Friday 24 March, through to Sunday 26 March in various locations throughout the village of Eumundi.
“OFFBEAT will offer the best of what locals hold dear” Alice says, “A weekend of incredible music, great vibes, and creativity, all set in the beautiful town of Eumundi”

“Always On My Mind” hit No. 5 in the AMRAP metro charts – March, 2022

Stream ‘Waiting For The Sun‘

Meanjin/Brisbane dream-rock project Lucid Safari have another hot hit up their sleeve with ‘Waiting For The Sun’, which will be let loose on November 3.

Winners of The Sound Garden’s ‘Battle of the Bands’ in late 2020, Lucid Safari went on to perform at Wynnum Fringe Festival the very next month, and have since played at iconic local venues The Zoo and The Triffid, and alongside the highly regarded Kate Miller-Heidke and Ian Moss.  Their most recent track ‘Till The End’ comes hot on the heels of the group’s debut EP ‘Delirium’, released earlier this year in February.

This new song is an energetic blend of the band’s psych, surf, reggae and rock influences – Lucid Safari once again brings Daniel Lewis’ sonic vision to life with a band of rotating accomplished musicians.

‘Waiting For The Sun’ is the perfect coastal-rock summer anthem. Infectious percussion and washed-out synth waves, a blistering guitar solo and echoed refrains of ‘whoa’s’ – it’s all here, and it’s so fun. Buckets of feel-good groove and catchy vocals hook their way in and will get listeners lured into a dream state of ‘feet on the ground, head in the clouds’.

Frontman Daniel Lewis elaborates:

“As well as welcoming back the sunny season, the song reflects the feeling of living through the ebbs and flows of life knowing that when times are tough, good things are sure to come back around.”

And there’s plenty more good things ahead for the group, if their track record is anything to go by. ‘Liquid Dreams’ premiered on Double J’s Stir It Up with Sarah Howells, while ‘Lady’ was added to high rotation on US station KXFM, and the band has stirred interest from Livewire, Scenestr, The Point Music News, plus many more media outlets and community radio stations. Boasting a sold-out headline show at Black Bear Lodge, a single launch at Felons Barrel Hall, and plenty of upcoming shows including the Wynnum Fringe Festival and supporting Australian X-Factor winner Reece Mastin – Lucid Safari are gaining popularity everywhere they go.

Thankfully, we don’t have to wait much longer – Lucid Safari release ‘Waiting For The Sun’ on November 3. Be sure to head to the single launch at Woolly Mammoth on November 12, they’ll be putting on a show with co-headliners The Urban Sea and special guest Sam Syrah – details below!
