RÜFÜS DU SOL, one of the world’s preeminent live-electronic bands, has released a music video for their third single, “Lost In My Mind,” off their recently released SOLACE LP on Rose Avenue Records / Reprise Records.
“Lost In My Mind” explores themes of creative isolation that struck the band throughout the making of SOLACE. Similarly, the music video see’s the group taking on these motifs with a metaphorical portrayal of smashing through emotional walls while stuck within the grips of a couch and its classic symbolism of demotivation. This storyline is set within one of Los Angeles’ industrial warehouse compounds, paralleling the subterranean music scene of which the band frequented between writing sessions on SOLACE.
The video comes alongside the RÜFÜS DU SOL BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix, featuring forthcoming album remixes, unreleased music from their new imprint Rose Avenue Records, and a bevy of deep cuts that influenced SOLACE.
With their family and friends left behind in Australia and the shadowy underbelly of Los Angeles taking hold, RÜFÜS DU SOL turned to sleepless nights in the studio and a looming sense of darkness in the writing process. The result is an album as equally melancholy as it is dance-floor driven, a direction in which “Lost In My Mind” stands at the center.
The voice of lead singer, Tyrone Lindqvist, calls out in dismay on “Lost In My Mind” with a harrowing, yet deliberate message:
“I’ve been walking out all on my own
I’ve been losing sleep while I’m not home
I don’t need my leaders to decide
If I had my choice I’d speak my mind”
The crux of RÜFÜS DU SOL remains the deep connection felt between the band and their dedicated global fan base in the live space. The band recently embarked on the beginning of a world tour in support of SOLACE. Continuing through the end of the year the bands return to Europe began at London’s Prtinworks, with dates in Birmingham, Glasgow, Manchester, Amsterdam, Paris and beyond.
SOLACE North American Fall Tour Dates (with more dates to be announced):

December 1, 2018 – Glasgow, UK – Queen Margaret Union
December 2, 2018 – Manchester, UK – Academy 2

After a whirlwind first year in 2017, Wollongong band TOTTY are proud to announce the release of their debut EP Cut the Poppies through Ratbag Records (Dune Rats, Skegss, Pandamic) out May 25.
Danny from Dune Rats says, “We’ve loved TOTTY ever since hearing their first demos a year ago and were so fucking stoked when we found out they agreed to join the Ratbag family. Can’t wait to play shows with them!”
While vocalist/guitarist, Kelly from TOTTY adds “It means so much to us to be signing to Ratbag and being surrounded by mates that genuinely care and want the best for us. That supportive family mentality from the whole Ratbag crew is something we’re so keen to be a part of” says
TOTTY unveil lead single and video, Uncomfortable. “Uncomfortable talks about relationships throughout life whether they are romantic or otherwise… It’s about communication and remembering to always try to listen to people’s feelings and be a nice person.” Explains Kelly.
TOTTY have moved from strength to strength in the past year, gaining recognition shortly after their inception and continuing to grow as a strong touring band as they accompanied acts such as Ruby Fieldsand Skegss on sold-outs dates around the country. Previous releases have also gained ground among music listeners, with both singles SIGH and RIFF gaining Triple J play and featuring on Spotify tastemaker playlists multiple times.
Describing themselves as “Dog loving, 90’s fanatics”, Kelly, Chris and Max began working together after meeting through their previous bands and sharing love for all things fuzzy and furry. TOTTY recorded their EP in the backyard shed of Kelly’s house before taking their work to the Grove Studios for completion, being mixed by the bands own Chris Peruch. The result is the sound of a band comfortable in their work environment yet confident in taking the next step in their career.

Cuartero, a young producer born in Malaga (Spain) has made a name for himself through his vibrant, grooving tech house productions. He can be found slotted comfortably next to elite tech house acts like Patrick Topping, Latmun and Detlef, but his style is still very much his own. Cuartero has released his work on a number of highly respected record labels including his most recent EP ‘Moon Crash’ on Hot Creations, ‘Newo EP’ on Saved Records, ‘Shadow EP’ on Moon Harbour, and more. With a following of 180k Facebook fans and a further 50k Soundcloud followers, it may come as a surprise that this will be Cuartero’s first Australian tour, but it most definitely won’t be his last.
When work and perseverance are on level with the passion for the music, the perfect ‘equalization’ occurs leading to artists destined to succeed. Cuartero was born just over two decades ago in Malaga, and although he missed the pure analog era, he felt the old-school essence which later would influence him to define his own style. His concern about researching new sounds, textures and structures has made his productions recognizable from the very first beats.
In addition, during the last year his releases on Hot Creations, Desolat, Saved, Moon Harbour, Circus, have made him become one of the producers of the moment.
In 2011 he founded his own label Sanity, with the clear idea of prioritizing the essence of good music over just signing popular scene names. Combining his activities as label owner and promoter, he has published about a hundred tracks and organized showcases worldwide. He started to produce at the age of 15, and it was from 2012 onwards when all his work began to bear fruit: many performances across 5 continents; numerous chart-toppers on Beatport; closing out the main floor at Amnesia Ibiza for residency in Hyte; his appearance in the documentary ‘Monday’, and the recipient of an award at the 2015 DJ Awards in 2015 as DJ revelation, confirm it.

Both Gravedigger’s Chant & Waste are available now on all streaming services and as instant grat tracks when pre-ordering the new album.
Stranger Fruit will be released on June 8th in multiple formats, including CD, cassette, vinyl, and digital download/stream. For vinyl fans, there’s a 2LP 180g gatefold vinyl or a 2LP limited deluxe 180g triple gatefold purple vinyl.
The diverse yet cohesive nature of the sixteen tracks on Stranger Fruit is designed to encourage the listener to dig a little deeper and find their own meaning in its words. In contrast to first LP Devil Is Fine, these songs are deliberately intended to play off each other both lyrically and musically. While the record seethes with justifiable rage, its wider-reaching aim is to unify and inspire action, not to divide and create inertia. Hope tempers bleak melancholy. Superficially, the album tells small isolated stories, but there are also references to the Goetia, Yoruba, and obscure occult literature and history.
Mixing blues, gospel, and soul with harsher music has opened up a world of possibilities for Gagneux. Previously creating as a one man solo effort, the immense interest and critical acclaim Zeal & Ardorattracted upon release of debut album Devil Is Fine, has led to the project becoming a fully-fledged, internationally-touring band. After months hidden away, crafting the new songs for Stranger Fruit, Gagneux entered the studio with producer Zebo Adam and mixer Kurt Ballou (Converge, Kvelertak, Nails). While the finished sound is larger and heavier, it is still unmistakably Zeal & Ardor.
Zeal & Ardor is the one-man brainchild of Manuel Gagneux, a Swiss-American formerly based in New York City. His approach draws on an alternate history and stems from two thoughts: Christianity was imposed upon American slaves, just as it was imposed in Norway, and black metal in the ’90s grew as a rebellion to monotheism. What would have happened if American slaves had rebelled in the same way? Or put bluntly: What would satanic spirituals sound like? First album Devil Is Fine was released globally in February 2017. Zeal & Ardor have been generating significant buzz ever since, with accolades piling up from both musical peers and international media, including Noisey, Rolling Stone, Alternative Press, Kerrang!, The Independent, Metal Hammer, Upset, Brooklyn Vegan, and many more. Set to instill a universal and shared rage, new album Stranger Fruit will be released June 8th, 2018.
RELEASE NEW TRACK ‘BOUGHT IT’
FROM THEIR DEBUT ALBUM ‘LOST FRIENDS’ OUT THIS FRIDAY
‘LOST FRIENDS’ FEATURE ALBUM THIS WEEK ON TRIPLE J
NATIONAL TOUR KICKS OFF MAY 9 – FREMANTLE, FIRST BRISBANE AND BOTH MELBOURNE SHOWS SELL OUT
Credit: ELLIE SMITH
All eyes are on Middle Kids as they prepare to release their debut album LOST FRIENDS this Friday. Fresh from a killer performance on Jimmy Kimmel in the US last week, showcasing singles ‘Mistake’ and ‘On My Knees’, comes the news that they’ve landed feature record on triple j right across this week.
They’ve also released a further taste of LOST FRIENDS in the shape of album track, ‘Bought It’. Download / stream HERE.
Lead singer / guitarist Hannah Joy says, “Bought It is the opening track on our debut album, Lost Friends. It’s a song for the weird nights where you’re looking for something but got no idea what. It hopes to bring you into its atmosphere and let you linger in it long after the song has finished.”
Next week Middle Kids will perform a very special, intimate acoustic set plus album signing at Red Eye Records, Sydney – catch them on Tuesday May 8 at 5pm. The following day they hit the road for the LOST FRIENDS tour, with most of the dates already sold out. Kicking off at Perth’s Rosemount Hotel on May 9, they’ll head to Mojo’s Bar, Fremantle on May 10, Adelaide’s Fat Controller on May 11, then to Brisbane on May 18 and 19 at Woolly Mammoth, Melbourne’s Corner Hotel on May 23, the Karova Lounge in Ballarat on May 25 and back to Melbourne for a second sold out gig at Corner Hotel on May 26. The whole tour wraps with what is sure to be a stunning show at Vivid Live on May 27.
On LOST FRIENDS, Middle Kids bring back their knack for haunting hooks, lyrical poignancy and irresistible indie rock appeal that critics praised in their self-titled first EP, released early 2017. The songs’ edges are jagged, the production clean, stray imperfections imbue warmth and a human touch. Middle Kids craft classic hooks and riffs that tangle up in your brain like taffy and choruses that linger long after the song has faded.
LOST FRIENDS is available to pre-order now on limited pressing purple vinyl housed in gatefold jacket, gatefold CD w/ 6-page booklet, and digital download.

April/May 2018 UK Tour Dates Supporting Drenge

Alcopop! Records are delighted to announce they have signed Nottingham trio Kagoule and will be releasing their new album Strange Entertainment later this year.
The band support Drenge on their upcoming run of headline shows this month (see below for full dates) and to celebrate the news of the signing are also streaming lead single ‘Bad Saliva’ in full today.
Listen and share: https://soundcloud.com/
Commenting on the new track, the band say: “Bad Saliva is a track about turning off the path you find yourself on; the temptation to make a change and the anxieties of then making it.”
With some time away from the spotlight to consolidate their early achievements and think about the direction they were heading after parting ways with their previous label, Strange Entertainment sees the band finally spinning together their disparate influences into a record that attempts to capture the sum of their parts, and is very much a statement of where Kagoule are pleased to find themselves artistically now they’re at the helm of their own destiny.
“We always felt this pressure early on to decide what type of band we were going to be and this record is an exercise in our self-confidence as a band by being all of them at once,” comments front man Cai Burns “We think we’ve written an album that doesn’t have a direct comparison in guitar music. Lyrically, I think this album is much more mature. I’ve found myself writing songs as a healing process for certain events or to capture moments that I don’t want to forget. I still mask them in fantasy for the fun of it but the topics of each song are more personal and the lyrics far more direct.”
Completed by bassist Lucy Hatter and drummer Lawrence English, the band are disarmingly relaxed about their success to date. Previously sequestered in Nottingham and for the most part unaware of the growing buzz around the band, following the critical plaudits and acclaim heaped on their 2015 debut Urth, Kagoule were wholeheartedly adopted by the flourishing Brighton rock scene. However, the trio found themselves wary of being consumed by it entirely, keeping their distance and taking from it what they felt the band needed to grow.
“We were all very young and I think we allowed ourselves to be mollycoddled a bit too much. It took a few years for us to realise we had to take control of it for ourselves,” continues Burns “Urth was very much an ode to grunge I think. Although I maybe didn’t realise at the time, when I listen back the early 90’s influences are plastered all over it. Since then we’ve branched out on what we listen to and a huge amount of different influences have crept in. With the guitar playing I wanted to take it more into the post-punk world. The bass lines are groovier and the drumming is just straight up weird.”
New album Strange Entertainment was produced by MJ Hookworms and mixed by Tarek Musa from Spring King in two separate sessions “because we ran out of money”, admits Burns in typically honest fashion “Working with MJ was great. He understood where we were coming from and instantly knew we didn’t want to be balls out rock music – he put forward some great ideas for the songs and his input made a big difference to the record.”
It took the band another year or so to scrape together funds for Musa’s mixing sessions, but Burns insists the results were worth the wait, “Tarek did an amazing job working with something he hadn’t recorded himself. We’d recently been on tour with Spring King so I think that really helped him know what to do with it sonically.”
In a time where Burns himself admits that he’s unsure as to whether the political climate has been good for music or not, the album is indicative of a pervading sense of lack of direction and unease among the younger generation. “Great creativity is part of trying to make change,” he says “but I can’t see anyone trying that hard to change anything. I think a lot of people are feeling lost and the youth especially are struggling to see a future for themselves.”
Taking musical cues from the likes of American composer and polymath Arthur Russell, and drawing influence from science-fiction and fantasy storytelling for his lyrics, Burns says that the new album is a celebration of trying to achieve something fully realised and artistically ambitious on a shoestring budget. Written on a single acoustic guitar, demoed on GarageBand, and worked up by the band to the finished studio product, Strange Entertainment is a very modern record with a thoroughly classic mindset.
“I wanted to write songs that stood up for themselves in the most simple of forms,” Burns expands on the process “I think there’s something beautiful about restrictions in music, and I’ll always prefer a lo-fi attempt at a big idea. When I’m not playing with Kagoule I tend to play folk music; Bert Jansch, John Fahey, that kind of thing. Strangely enough a lot of that folk guitar seeps into Kagoule riffs but I don’t think it’s too noticeable.”
As with the faltering first steps of any new band, the last few years have been a whirlwind of strange new experiences for Kagoule, but with the advent of Strange Entertainment we find a band who are finally feeling as though they’ve come into their own with a new sense of purpose, and a sharpened focus on exactly what makes them tick.
Whether it was playing after The Dandy Warhols at a festival on a tiny island by the sea in Norway; appearing at Glastonbury; being attacked by a gang of quad bikers on the motorway; sharing stages with Johnny Marr, The Wytches, Iceage, METZ, Sebadoh and Drenge; or achieving acclaim from Rolling Stone, NME, Guardian, BBC 6Music, BBC Radio 1 – it’s all been a steep learning curve, but a thoroughly enjoyably wild ride.
“Being in a band is full of those crazy moments,” reflects Burns on their journey so far “The band is all we know! We’ve done it for so long now, I couldn’t imagine not being in it. It’s like a second family and I think nothing can break that.”

Rising pop star Emma Blackery has announced an extensive UK and European headline tour for October 2018. To mark the announcement the Essex-born singer has released an acoustic version of her huge new single ‘Dirt’.

The track peaked at number 5 in the Spotify Viral Chart, holding a Top 10 position for over a week.
The track is the follow up to last year’s Magnetised EP, which catapulted her to international fame after being used in the global reveal of the iPhone X, and in support of which she completed a UK headline tour.

Wax Wings is an artist in the truest sense of the word from painting, fashion, graffiti, photography, art direction through to music. The young producer/DJ already has some impressive remix credentials under his belt including Maya Jane Coles’ Nocturnal Sunshine, Nimmo, The Presets, Eli & Fur and Vök, and has collaborated with artists such as Skunk Anansie’s Skin and Dead Can Dance’s Lisa Gerrard.
Holding a residency in London for the newly established, HE.SHE.THEY at Ministry Of Sound who’s mission statement is “A place without prejudice for people to be people”. Wax is allowed to fully express his musical style and lives up to DJ Mag’s ‘Ones To Watch for 2018’ tag, playing alongside acts such as Maya Jane Coles, Satoshi Tomiie and Ellen Allien. 2018 is shaping up to be one of his biggest years, having already played at the London Fashion Week Festival in February. Wax is lined up to play the opening party for this year’s IMS: Ibiza at Pacha, Ibiza. As well as dates at the world-famous Watergate, Berlin.
Ending 2017 in style, Wax Wings released his EP ‘Gravedance’ delivering six dancefloor focused weapons. This builds on the remarkable success of his first two EPs ‘System’ and ‘The Love Inside Me’ which gained strong support across the airwaves from the likes of BBC Radio 1’s B.Traits and Monki. He now returns with four intense remixes of the original cuts, reloaded and ready to go again.
Opening the EP Wax Wings leans on the talents of DJ/Producer & long-time friend ABSOLUTE. for the first of two remixes of ‘Gravedance’. Declared by Tiga as a ‘Future Star’, Absolute injects force and power into the original with a modulated bassline rippling throughout. Enlisting cultural provocateur Warboy for the second of those remixes, the underground veteran UK DJ/Producer offers up dominant basslines and theatrical hooks whilst retaining all the originals prominent vocal sample. Having played B2B with Wax Wings at the inaugural HE.SHE.THEY party, Warboy lends his experienced hand to the young producers Remix package.
D-Code & Psylence transform ‘Toxic Love’ from a straight down the line dark and tripped out Techno tool to a breakbeat injected groover, complete with dubby synth tones akin to the original. Completing the remix package is London based producer Venice Calypso, having previously remixed Wax Wings for his ‘The Love Inside Me’ EP. Sebastien is back with a driving remake of ‘Drunk’. Flipping the original and injecting the signature Venice Calypso, his version of ‘Drunk’ is primed for the dancefloor.
To celebrate the release Wax has joined forces with Warboy’s very own Friday nighter Shutdown at SEDITION (formally known as East Bloc) to throw a chaotic basement bash. Showcasing each remix artist and joined by a cast of experimental party makers and radical performers.

In anticipation of their upcoming LP HI VIZ, Australian electro-punk duo The Presets today are releasing 14U+14ME Remixes. The EP features remixes of “14U+14ME” by Superpitcher, Marco Faraone, and Sly Faux.
Blackbook premiered the Superpitcher remix yesterday saying, “While we wait for the mad party to kick off, The Presets have delivered this grooving new EP, 14U+14ME Remixes, and Blackbook premieres here the groovalicious remix from German producer and KOMPAKT artist Superpitcher, which is asspine-chilling as it is unstoppably infectious.”
The Presets commented, “Friends. We are absolutely minced to present this selection of major-league remixes of our latest single 14U+14ME, created by techno heavyweights Superpitcher, Marco Faraone and Sly Faux. Tell your cousin that these mixes are not suitable for her gym playlist. Sorry. This is some true, 4am, back room deepness. Marco has even included an additional ‘bonus beats’ mix, 100% guaranteed to transport you back to your favorite ’92 jungle warehouse party. Ruff!! Proceed with Awesome”
HI VIZ is The Presets’ party album; a hedonistic cocktail of rave nuggets, cyber croons and pub techno, seamlessly mixed across 53 minutes. The vivid LP visuals (by longtime collaborator Jonathan Zawada) and the none-too-subtle title are both clear statements of intent; The Presets are up for it.
It’s been a decade since the duo – Julian Hamilton & Kim Moyes – first set festival fields alight with breakthrough anthems like “My People”, “Talk Like That” and “This Boys In Love”. The pair had been making waves in Sydney’s clubs since forming in 2003 and signing to the influential Modular Records but it was their 2008 Oz chart topper, Apocalypso, that first introduced them to wider audiences. That album was certified triple platinum and won six ARIA Awards in their homeland. By contrast, 2012’s critically acclaimed Pacifica was comparatively introspective but epic gigs around the world – from the Glastonbury Festival and Coachella to Splendour In The Grass – forged the duo’s reputation as Australian electronic music trailblazers. HI VIZ sits firmly in this tradition – a “back to basics” set, deliberately curated as a proxy for The Presets’ live experience. HI VIZ lands June 1st and copies can be pre-ordered from https://thepresets.lnk.to/
