Today, innovative electronic producer, songwriter and DJ Ninajirachi shares the latest taste of her forthcoming mixtape Second Nature (out November 11), teaming up with vibrant pop artist Montaigne on ‘One Long Firework In The Sky’. LISTEN HERE.

Produced by Ninajirachi and written collaboratively with Montaigne, ‘One Long Firework In The Sky’ is a refuge of future-bass percussion and undulating synths, which sees Ninajirachi and Montaigne together manifest a hard-hitting glittery pop anthem. Combining organic and inanimate textures previously teased through Nina‘s recent triple j hit ‘Start Small‘, elevated here to festival-ready heights. ‘One Long Firework in The Sky‘ is a hyperactive electronic warp of waves and harpsichord strings that propel Montaigne‘s vocals into soaring, undeniable euphoria.

Of the release, Ninajirachi says, “The production was really inspired by Flume, who has been one of my heroes since I was literally 12 years old.” Reflecting on their collaboration, she continues, “Montaigne and I first met at a writing camp in 2018. I was 18 and hadn’t done much co-writing, so I was very nervous. We reconnected in 2020 and had a few sessions, one of them resulting in One Long Firework in The Sky. In our sessions, we spend a lot of time talking about life and our common interests. She’s absurdly talented and such a uniquely interesting artist; it’s an honour to work with her.”

Montaigne shares “It’s such a privilege to work with Nina who I think shares a lot of the same sensibilities as me and who I get along with fabulously. This song was written after sitting on the floor chatting for about 5 hours and in the last 2, we continued to sit on the floor using just her laptop keyboard, built-in speakers, and iPhone voice memos to record the whole demo. It was so much fun. It’s very different songwriting to what I’ve done in the past, which is exciting for me to debut. Possibly the only horny song I’ve ever written and loving it.”

Forging a strong connection to nature and her surroundings, Ninajirachi’s forthcoming Second Nature mixtape breaks apart her non-familiar sound and magnifies the layers that are existent in her streak of releases. The 12-track project lends itself to the second nature reality of her music-making process, one that is an extension of herself and a laptop, bound not by software limitations – pure muscle memory. In her first full-length solo project, Second Nature speaks to Nina’s creative and mental growth in the current internet era. Making music in a format that doesn’t involve traditional instruments, the uniqueness of her abilities extends past virtual limits, entering an unchartered zone of technical prowess and artistic versatility to her peers.

To celebrate the forthcoming release, Ninajirachi will be playing a series of shows with Coalesce in Eora, Naarm and Meanjin, alongside special guests including cookii, Mulalo, Caucasian Opportunities, AGONY, nerdie, Sandro Dallarmi, yergurl, Club Angel, Laces, Fresh Hex, Babie Club DJs, Heavy Gore, Kritty and Blair De Milo. Poppy Rose Releases ‘My God’

by the partae October 19, 2022
written by the partae

Overcoming compounding struggles with addiction and the protracted idleness of lockdown,  Melbourne emcee Poppy Rose has emerged more resilient and determined than ever.

Poppy first came to the attention of hip-hop audiences in 2017 with the breakout single, ‘Ocean’,  a startling DIY effort featuring stanza after stanza of effortless flow and clever turn of phrase that  struck a chord with disciples of the genre, none more so than the queer community from which  she hails, and has accrued more than a million streams to date.

What would follow would be nearly two years of battling issues with addiction buttressed by the  forced sidelining of musicians globally brought about by the pandemic.

If there was a silver lining to Poppy’s time away from the limelight, it was that it provided her with  an opportunity to process the tumultuous series of events leading up to that point and engage in  a process of soul-searching that saw her redefine herself as a musician and now, producer.

Investing in a basic home-recording rig segued into Poppy teaching herself how to make beats  on Garageband in the solitude of her bedroom and threading these new skills into her artistry.  The music that has resulted, totalling nearly a hundred unreleased demos and counting, reveals a  born artist emerging from a long period of uncertainty stronger than ever before.

The first taste of her vast unreleased repertoire, new single ‘My God’ showcases Poppy’s talents  as a natural storyteller whose ability to weave life experience into her music makes for effortless  listening. The track, written and produced by Poppy, features additional production from  HAMLEY (Stan Walker, Pania) and was mixed and mastered by Matt ‘Xiro’ Fioravanti (Tasman  Keith, Jesswar).

Originally hailing from Wagga Wagga in rural NSW, Poppy grew up as one of six siblings with  music as a constant presence in her life. Drawing early inspiration, owing in part to her older  brothers’ iPods, from the likes of Kanye West, J. Cole, A Tribe Called Quest, Tupac and Biggie,  Poppy fused her burgeoning love affair with hip-hop with a natural flair for poetry as a means of  self-expression.

A trip to Melbourne at age 16 to see A$AP Rocky in concert served to crystallize her desire to  realize her own dreams of becoming a rapper and prompted a move to the nation’s unofficial  musical capital where she honed her skills in situ at the city’s open mic scene.

During a time of global pause, Poppy put work in, throwing herself headlong into her craft;  letting music seep into every pore and take over her being in a new way, largely driven by the  freedom producing music herself.

“My God is an anthem about reclaiming myself from a struggle with addiction. I wanted to create  a song that was empowering and fun that reminded me of all the things I’m capable of. I started  playing around with 808 melodies and MIDI trumpets which kicked off the melody for the chorus

and the inspiration for the verses. I like trumpets because they remind me of the word  ‘triumphant’. My God is just the beginning of the story I want to tell about myself in the hope that  someone else out there can relate to it in one way or another. I wanted to create a song that’s  catchy, fun and also serious, because I figured if I put all of those together, then maybe I can get  some points across. I wanna destigmatize the stigmas.” – Poppy Rose

HOW MANY DREAMS? OUT 31 MARCH 2023
FOLLOWS DMA’S MULTI ARIA-NOMINATED ALBUM THE GLOW
MASSIVE SINGLE ‘EVERYBODY’S SAYING THURSDAY’S THE WEEKEND’ OUT NOW

I OH YOU are proud to today announce DMA’S fourth studio album How Many Dreams? for release on 31 March 2023 – with massive lead single ‘Everybody’s Saying Thursday’s The Weekend’ and its accompanying video out now.

How Many Dreams? was ambitiously crafted by the band to be the grand sum of every part of who DMA’S are. Gleaned from over 70 early demos, it sees them drawing from a wider sonic palette than ever before.

Recorded in London with Stuart Price (Dua Lipa, The Killers, Pet Shop Boys) and Rich Costey (Sigur Ros, Muse, Foster the People), then completed with Konstantin Kersting (Mallrat, The Jungle Giants) in the band’s hometown of Sydney, How Many Dreams? charters a course with stops at dizzying highs and crushing lows. With songs to rave to and songs to cry to, it is DMA’S emerging from a darker place, and the exhilarating future sound of a band without barriers at the top of their game.

When DMA’S first teased their return with August track ‘I Don’t Need To Hide’, a sense of celebration and revolution was brewing. Glittering electronics and a rush-of-blood guitar attack embodied the euphoria of the band’s vaunted live shows perfectly. It clears a natural path for ‘Everybody’s Saying Thursday’s The Weekend’ (produced by Konstantin Kersting and Rich Costey), a track born from a phone call guitarist Johnny Took had with a mate, who was rallying Johnny for a Thursday night pint at the pub.

Johnny comments: “‘Everybody’s Saying Thursday’s The Weekend’, we’ve all thought it, we’ve all felt it. This song is about letting go of the things that weigh us down and embracing the future with a sense of optimism. Stepping in the ‘Right light in the dark times’.”

Directed by Joel Burrows, the track’s video – which stars Netflix’s Heartbreak High actor Gemma Chua-Tran – places the song in its natural habitat: amongst the warmth of the setting sun, surrounded by friends as the energy of a fading summer slips by.

DMA’S new material arrives as their first since last year’s celebrated EP I Love You Unconditionally, Sure Am Going To Miss You, which in turn followed the band’s highest charting album to date, THE GLOW (ARIA #2, UK Official Albums Chart #4 and #1 in Scotland).

The band recently completed their biggest ever Australian headline tour and played UK main stages at TRNSMT and Reading & Leeds festivals. They are currently on tour with Kasabian through Europe, gearing up to return to the UK for a short run of sold-out headline shows, including London’s Roundhouse. Three Falls Festival dates and a huge support show with Arctic Monkeys at Sydney’s Domain follow on home turf, before a return across the pond for a UK album tour in April 2023.

As DMA’S sit on the cusp of releasing How Many Dreams?, the band have found an iconic, mythical status among their fanbase – 65,000 ticket sales on their last UK tour alone shows the open-armed response they elicit on international shores. Their world is one of acceptance, freedom of expression, collective high, and each twist and turn in their journey to this point has led them to what will be a landmark album release for the band.

How Many Dreams? opening offerings ‘I Don’t Need To Hide’ and ‘Everybody’s Saying Thursday’s The Weekend’ represent the comfort in being embraced, but more than that, they exemplify the biggest talent that DMA’S possess: the ability to distil the wrenches of their personal stories into anthemic universal experiences.

Circles Drop Their Third Single ‘Echo’ Ahead of Their Highly Anticipated EP ‘The Stories We Are Afraid Of | Vol 1’

by the partae October 19, 2022
written by the partae

‘Echo’ Out October 19
‘The Stories We Are Afraid Of | Vol 1’ EP – Out November 25

Previous support for Circles

‘Sleepwalking’ – First Play on Triple J (The Racket)

‘Sleepwalking’ added to Spotify’s Homegrown + Heavy, All New Metal
and Apple Music’s Heaps Heavy

‘Dig’ added to Spotify’s Rock Out and Apple Music’s The New Rock

“. . . One of Australia’s most successful international prog experts . . .”
(Maniac) [About ‘Dig’]

“Their music soars as much as it djents, the vocals and harmonies, delivered by the three members across the front of the stage, are absolutely on the money, and it is all delivered with a tightness and precision that only comes from being together for well over a decade”
(The Music) [‘Sleepwalking’ AUS Tour Live Review]

“With more sonic meat than your local butcher and a simultaneous scintillating assault and caress of the senses on full display via Sleepwalking, 2022 is shaping up to be a particularly eventful one for Melbourne’s Circles”
(Hysteria) [About ‘Sleepwalking’]

“Some things in life are worth the wait . . . and it gives me pleasure this week to grace Melbourne rock outfit Circles as our featured artist”
(HEAVY Magazine) [About ‘Sleepwalking’]

‘The Last One’ (2018) landed #3 on AIR Independent Albums, #47 ARIA Digital Albums, #4 TheMusic’s Album Of The Year (Writers’ Poll), and reached close to 3 Million Spotify streams worldwide.

“Circles have crafted a modern progressive tapestry with plenty of wider appeal”
(Metal Hammer – UK) [About ‘The Last One’ Album]

Circles’ storm continues with the release of their most dynamic track yet, ‘Echo’ out October 19. ‘Echo’ and its accompanying music video comes as the third single of their upcoming EP ‘The Stories We Are Afraid Of | Vol.1’— the first part of the Melbourne progressive metal titan’s two-part concept record, out November 25.

Continuing on from their most recent record, ‘The Last One’, which found impressive success at #4 on TheMusic’s Album of The Year 2018 and #3 on AIR Independent Albums, Circles have continued to build excitement for their upcoming EP ‘The Stories We Are Afraid Of | Vol. 1’.

Further pushing the boundaries of the international djent movement that Circles helped characterise, the metallic chugging guitars, belting blast from the drums and serene atmospheric pads featured in their new single ‘Echo’, reinforce the band’s heavy influence in the genre.

‘Echo’ starts with a resonating electronic kick drum, paired with atmospheric synths and the hypnotic despair in Rechter’s vocals. The impact of the building drums and subtle guitars reflects that growing ache in one’s head that’s filled with voices of self-doubt, paralysing pity and pressure. Dropping out for a glitched-filled interlude like the calm before the storm, the band erupt into a skeleton-shaking triple-time breakdown. Leading the track out with a bone-crushing riff and a powerful vocal delivery pleading to break from the foundations of one’s turmoil, this is one of Circles’ most cathartic tracks to date.

Circles have composed ‘The Stories We Are Afraid Of | Vol.1‘ with intention and finesse. ‘Echo’ builds upon ‘Sleepwalking’ and ‘Dig’ by portraying themes of self-reflection and desperation to make a resolution; to fight your struggles and take the first steps to reacclimate to the life you once lived.

Rechter provides insight into how ‘Echo’ integrates into their upcoming EP:
“Echo is Vol. 1’s lowest point, emotionally. It deals with being well and truly at the bottom, feeling as though you deserve the hopelessness that you feel. Even if that’s not a true reflection of the situation, sometimes those inner voices block out all others with a relentless drone.”

‘Echo’ was mastered by Luke Cinacotta (Karnivool & Dead Letter Circus) and produced/mixed by Circle’s own Ted Furuhashi. With the abundance of subtle auxiliary percussion, lush floating synthesiser pads and a pulsating electronic kick drum, Circles’ new direction with production has led to a track that’s inherently progressive in nature.

Showcasing the band’s refined sound with Ted Furuhashi’s production, frontman Ben Rechter makes comment on the writing process:
“Ted’s production is great on this volume as a whole, but I feel that he really got to show what he’s capable of with this one, outside of heavy music. It’s probably the biggest departure from earlier Circles music, and took us on a journey that surprised us. It’s definitely an important song to us.”

Paired with the single is the epic music video produced by the band’s very own David Hunter. Filmed at Fabrik Studios, the clip parallels the building tension in the track as Rechter is seen despondent on the floor before contemporary dancer Bridget Lyte appears. Lyte’s movements intensify as the track grows in its dynamics and the rest of the band make their appearance. The band and Lyte unleash and purge in the track’s peak amongst a colossal white light show to close out.

The band’s blitzkrieg with their last three releases comes with consistent national and international radio play, with ‘Sleepwalking‘ and ‘Dig’ seeing support from The Racket on Triple J and curation for Spotify’s All New Metal, Rock Out and Homegrown + Heavy playlists as well as Apple Music’s New Music Daily, Heaps Heavy and The New Rock. Further media support from The Music (AU), HEAVY Mag (AU), Hysteria Mag (AU), Kill Your Stereo (AU) and Metal Hammer (UK) supports the hype of their highly-awaited upcoming EP.

Circles have continued to flex their extensive national and international touring experience after a string of successful shows (Destroy All Lines & Wild Thing Presents) at revered venues in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra and Adelaide. Appearing at high-regarded international prog festivals such as Euroblast (Germany), Progpower (USA) and Progfest (Australia), Circles continue to build upon the impressive list of artists they’ve supported. Opening for The Dillinger Escape Plan, Opeth, Fear Factory, Periphery, TesseracT, Twelve Foot Ninja and many more, Circles are an internationally recognised prog powerhouse.

Fall into the atmosphere and emotion in Circles’ latest single ‘Echo‘ on October 19 and keep your calendar updated for ‘The Stories We Are Afraid Of | Vol.1’ (November 25) because Circles are set to thrill.

Coco Elise will leave a devine aroma to your day with their release, ‘Wish you’d show’ ahead of their debut EP

written by the partae

The band’s release ahead of their debut EP after supporting Ken Paulo, Young Robin and Noah Dillion. Previous press support from AAA Backstage, Australian Music Scene, SYN Radio, RTR FM and various radios in Australia.

Lead Singer: Josh Ellis

Perth/Boorloo based band Coco Elise are releasing their flavour filled single ‘Wish you’d show’.

‘Wish you’d show‘, the lead single of the EP ‘Brian’s view’ is a unique and creative work showcasing Ellis’ crisp falsetto tones of his vocals and the instrumental talents in the band.

Chances are if you are around the Perth live music scene you’ve heard of Coco Elise – composed of lead singer Josh Ellis, Isaiah Quintana,  Harry Playford and Seb Price. Bringing an indie pop sound which has had them supporting acts such as Ken Paolo & The Space Cadets, Spici Water, Airline Food, Young Robin & Noah Dillon, establishing themselves as one of Perth’s hidden Jewels.

The track list for the EP is as follows:

Shower in the daytime

Brian’s views

Sun may shine

Wish you’d show

In their own words, “Wish you’d show is a short love song about being somewhere and wanting a certain person to comeIt’s probably the most accessible song we have and definitely the easiest to understand lyrically.”

When asked who is Brian? Ellis states that it is a mystery; maybe that’s up to you to decide, but one thing is for sure: Coco Elise’s EP will take you in a whole other dimension, a whole other vibe and with a whole new view (AKA Brian’s View).

Where are you currently based?
We are currently based in Brisbane.

How did you first start playing music?
Cant speak for all members of the group, but i would be confident in saying we were lucky enough to be exposed to music early on in our childhoods. I know I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to learn an instrument during my schooling years and took it forward from there.

What’s been happening recently?
Since covid we have been focusing our energies on writing new material. We hope that this new track is the first in a series of exciting new releases and content. We were especially excited to welcome our newest member Toby Alexander to the group who was instrumental in the writing and production of ‘You Save Me’.

How did the band form?
In the early days the group consisted of a few of us who knew each other from high school. Then over the years the rest of us came together through the Brisbane music scene and eventually formed our current lineup.

Your latest single ‘You save me’ is out now, what influenced the sound and songwriting?
Our newest member Toby Alexander was instrumental in establishing the initial sound and feel of the song, drawing inspiration from artists such as Rufus Du Sol and Kx5 for his initial demos. Lyrically the song evolved into a kind of fictional telling a failing relationship, and one party’s journey of self realisation and sacrifice in order to set their partner free.
How did You save me come about?

What’s the Brisbane music scene like at the moment?
As the post – covid period continues, we believe this is perhaps as exciting a time as any in the Brisbane music scene. There are countless new artist that have emerged from the online community over the past two years, and as the Brisbane inner city infrastructure continues to develop as it has in recent years we expect Brisbane’s live music to amaze on a national level.

You were the recent winner of ‘Best Live Artist’ and ‘Best Emerging Artist’ that was presented by the Brisbane Council, please tell us about this experience and how it all came about:
We are extremely fortunate that the Brisbane City Council hosts such incredible initiatives such as the Qube Effect awards and City Sounds live music in order to uncover and showcase the city’s emerging artists. For city Sounds were able to play a number of gigs within the city and Southbank areas to large crowds of passers by, and for the Qube Effect awards we were given the opportunity to be mentored by industry professionals, as well as have a music video filmed and produced for us. These experiences were unforgettable and incredibly valuable to us as a band. Our awards were a bonus, but also extremely encouraging showing we were on the right track!

Who are you listening to at the moment?
Again I can’t speak for all the boys, but I always like to have a radiohead song in whatever playlist is on. Lately I have also found myself giving some early Elton John a run…

What’s planned for the remainder of 2022 going into 2023?

At this stage we will look to release several more singles over the coming months, possibly leading to an EP in 2023.

PLAY/LISTEN

Oly Sherman basks in the beauty of the everyday in latest single ‘Dancin’ in the Rain’. A beautiful, vulnerable display of strength, Oly’s sumptuous vocal tones take us on a journey of pure joy and artistry.

Speaking to his philosophy of enjoying the simple pleasures of life, Oly’s confident vocals exude a power that draws you in. Soulfully dancing over luxurious jazz instrumentation, the result is nothing short of exceptional.

Pulling aural influences from international favourites Daniel Ceasar, Omar Apollo and Loyle Carner, and closer to home with Tash Sultana, Kaiit, and Matt Corby. Sherman’s aurally decadent soundscapes are nestled in between that beautiful space of soul-fused jazz and RnB.

Slightly more stripped back then previous releases, Oly showcases his confidence in his experimentation, leaning more heavily into the late night jazz dive bar, spotlighting his vocals.

“Dancin’ In The Rain is about enjoying the little things and getting out of your own head. The rain is a symbol for doing things that aren’t necessarily comfortable at first, but doing them because of the valuable people around you, and the ultimate joy of jumping in.” Oly Sherman

‘Dancin’ in the Rain’ sees airy synths, a deliciously grooving baseline, and fluttering sporadic keys work in harmony, elevating Olys honeyed vocal tones. The shining strength of this single is the crooning, saxophone solo that brings to life the feeling of walking through Paris at midnight under spheres of illumination from weathered street lamps.

Like previous releases, ‘Dancin’ in the Rain’ was recorded at Sherman’s home studio, with final touches applied at A-Sharp Studios. The single was then refined by both Oly Sherman and engineer Daniel Natoli.

Since releasing his first single in 2017, Sherman has carved out a devout following of listeners yearning for his soul-laden songs. In that time he has seen break-out success from single ‘Homeboy’ which accumulated 120k+ streams alongside a steady fan base of monthly listeners on Spotify that hovers at around 20k, Oly Sherman has proven his dynamism in spades.

With two sold out shows at iconic Sydney venue The Lansdowne, the Newtown Festival and notable support slots for Slum Sociable, Alex The Astronaut and Matthew Young, Oly Sherman will be sharing his honeyed vocals and grooving beats with a number of shows across the country over September through to November.

Where are you currently based?
Sydney – AUS

How did you first start playing music?
At home, I was always surrounded by music. My dad plays electric guitar and my mum used to send my sister & I to piano lessons (I hated that!)

Then I picked up the Saxophone and joined the school band – and that was my main instrument all through school (Jazz Band, Stage Band & Concert Bands)

In my final years of high school I really wanted to start singing – so I would steal my dads guitars to accompany my singing and would watch tutorials on Youtube. I even started playing piano again when I got into music production.

What’s been happening recently?
I’ve spent the past 2 years writing a bunch of new music. Put together my band and rehearsed it all so we could play our first headline gig (whilst shooting the music video for “Tomorrow”)
I’m excited to announce I will be performing at my first music festival in December and have been working alongside the team at SunSets Festival to promote the event.

Your single ‘Tomorrow’ is out now, what influenced the sound and songwriting?
I’ve always loved listening to rap music and the rhythmic delivery of the vocals/rhyming…intertwining melodies with fast paced delivery. I initially sat down to see how many words I could rhyme and for it to somewhat make sense to the listener. Once I had written the hook, I had something catchy to come back to – and I would find pockets to deliver the verses in between.

How did you go about writing Tomorrow and what does this song mean to you?
I worked with producer Thomas Porter on the new single. It was our first session working together and I went into the room with a bunch of songs I had been writing. He encouraged me to throw everything out the window and to see what happened naturally when we started working from a blank canvas. A janky guitar progression and some drums was all we needed to get the songwriting flowing. A few hours later the song was finished. We sat with the song for a while and re-tracked vocals + added some horns to give it some character.

Where and when did you record/produce/master and who did you work with?
It was my first time working with high school friend and producer Thomas Porter at his home studio. We used to both play Saxophone in the school band. We wrote/recorded this song 2 years ago and I have been holding onto it ever since – so I thought it was finally time to put it out. It was a bit of a school reunion, the horns were played by Liam Thomas, who also went to the same high school as us.

How did you approach the recording process?
We finalised the instrumental on the first day, and used it as a guide to write lyrics to. Then we recorded the hook and bounced the track with empty verses so I could take it away and play around with it. On the final production day – I had recorded the horns and we came back to record fresh vocals on the whole track + some BV’s and harmonies.

Who are you listening to at the moment?
I love variety. Right now I’m listening to heaps of Blake Rose, Lewis Capaldi, Russ, Mac Miller, Lime Cordiale.
Pretty much anything with a strong male pop vocal.

What’s planned for 2023 and beyond?
– More Live Shows
– Support tour
– Studio Sessions and writing trips (Collaborating with new and old friends)
– Rehearsals with the band and polishing up the live show

Favourite food and place to hangout?

Ken Paolo & The Space Cadets

by the partae October 17, 2022
written by the partae

Where are you currently based?

Perth (Boorloo), WA.

How did the band form?

We all met at uni. I asked the musicians there who inspired me to start a band.

What’s been happening recently?

Released a music video for “Heads at A hundred”, released the song “Natural Ways’. Just been playing gigs as much as we can and been working on the EP.

Your latest single ‘Natural Ways’ is out now, what influenced the sound and songwriting?

Heaps of rnb and soul music. Artists like Durand Jones and The Indication, Ari Lennox, Silk Sonic and Beyonce inspires me lots.

How did you go about writing Natural Ways?

I wrote it the melody and lyrics after falling out with a friend. Brought it to the band and became like a friend breakup anthem for us.

Where and when did you record/produce/master and who did you work with?

Recorded and produced by our favourite, Tonecity Record’s Sam Ford.

Natural Ways is your most ambitious track to date, how was it navigating the horn section?

Bob, our keys player and local hearthrob composed the horn section. We kind of just wanted to compliment the melody and lift the groove of the song.

You’ve built a reputation for killer live shows, what do they like most about performing?

Persia, our backing vocalist, is my vocal idol and is basically a goddess, being able to sing with her and play off each other really makes the show fun and fresh. Each song live, each instrumentalist (Bob, Cass and Kuda) have a solo so we all get to shine and just vibe.

How would you define your sound?

Soul, rnb, funk and somewhat jazz. Just mostly fun and groovy but can also be personal and chill. Purely vibing.

What shows are you looking forward to playing?

We’re playing with MNDSGN, in Nov which is really cool.

Highlights of 2022?

Filming Heads at a hundred with triple j and Nida in sydney. We felt like true rockstars and met some incredible people.

Please tell us about your upcoming EP:

Lyrically, it’s super personal to me. My favourite song is the ballad “Two Different People”, which reflects on my own family relationships. We gave something special and unique to each song. I think it’s a true reflection of our song.

Who are you listening to at the moment?

Beyonce, Omar Apollo, Yebba, Jazmine Sullivan.

What’s planned for the remainder of 2022 going into 2023?

Get the EP out and hopefully, tour nationally.

Favourite food and place to hangout?

We love $4 Pizza, and we mostly hang out at gigs or rehearsals. Mojos in Freo will always be our homeground.

FRESCO KYOTO unveil their ethereal new single ‘YOU SAVE ME’

by the partae October 17, 2022
written by the partae

‘You Save Me’ is the commanding new single from young Brisbane five-piece Fresco Kyoto. On this new track, they illustrate how their songwriting has evolved over time, going from strength to strength as they refine their sound and aural personality with comparisons to Rufus Du Sol and Hayden James. It’s the ultimate anti-love song.

“A person has realised that they have entrapped their love in a relationship that is proving to be defined by their own flaws. Through self sacrifice the person determines the way they rise above their ailment is on their own, and that their partner must move on to a better life. This song is an ode to time and the revelations it unveils.” Fresco Kyoto

Their love of lo-fi house and ethereal dark melodies shines brightly in the chorus and overall this new track highlights frontman Robbie Balmer’s vocals – balancing complexity with delicacy and vulnerability with strength.

‘You Save Me’ was produced by the band’s own Toby Alexander and Cody McWaters between Hunting Ground Studios and Airlock Studios (owned by Powderfinger’s Ian Haug), where Cody has assumed the role of head engineer. Outside of his work with Fresco Kyoto, Cody has worked closely on releases for The Chats, King Stingray, Selfish Sons, and Osaka Punch, while Toby contributed string arrangements for Holy Holy’s ARIA nominated record, Hello My Beautiful World.

“What makes music creation fantastic for us is that each member  truly contributes something unique to the process. As a result songs that start out as a simple melody and lyric are allowed to flourish and reach their true potential.” Fresco Kyoto

Single artwork by: Emily Kerr

Gliding effortlessly between shades of electronica, indie-pop and alternative soundscapes Fresco Kyoto are solidifying their position as one of Brisbane’s next big acts to keep a close eye on. They are signed to Sydney indie label Double Drummer (Greta Stanley, Dominic Breen, Cousin Tony’s Brand New Firebird). They were recent winners of ‘Best Live Artist’ and ‘Best Emerging Artist’ presented by Brisbane Council. They have supported Jaguar Jonze, Hope D, Cousin Tony’s Brand New Firebird, Greta Stanley and Custard. Recent singles have caught the attention of triple j, 4ZZZ, Radio Adelaide and they have accumulated over 55K streams across Spotify, Apple, YouTube.

PRAISE FOR FRESCO KYOTO

“These guys reach some soaring heights with this cloudbursting indie pop track.”

Dave Ruby Howe, triple j

“I feel like I’m watching a champagne cork fly into the sky in slo-mo and when that chorus comes in it returns to top speed in full flight.”

Declan Byrne, triple j

“Meet Brisbane’s Fresco Kyoto, who are ones to watch with Whatever You Say”

Pilerats

“ A soothing, picturesque piece of indie-rock”

Premiering on YouTube last night, the episode gives audiences a AAA pass to the greenroom, rehearsals, and how the collaboration came to life – with a special live version of hit single ‘OG’s (with The Brisbane Symphony Orchestra)’ the first dynamic recording from the evening to be released.

“Performing ‘OG’s’ live is possibly one of my favourite tracks to perform, the build-up and energy is unmatched. But to have a full orchestra behind you when doing a song like ‘OG’s’ is a whole other vibe, felt like I was on a spaceship in a motion picture film, the raw energy the crowd provides makes it a must for live performances.”

Bliss n Eso recently announced a fresh headline tour for November/December. The Wheel Of Tunes dates will see them play cult classics and fan favourites chosen by the crowd live in Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney, and Fremantle.
